Demi's POV

Thursday, June 8th, 2017; the penultimate day before school was over. We had just one night and a last day more to think about what we would do about our future, but honestly, Wilmer and I hadn't talked about it seriously. It seemed like, if we didn't talk about it, it wouldn't be real. It'd not happen. I sometimes thought that we were waiting for a miracle to happen, or that we just believed in our relationship and that the destiny wouldn't let us separate.

As we did for every special day at school, we were preparing a party for the last day of school where parents would come to see their children perform. Just the way we did at Christmas' time when we sang some songs.

This time, we were preparing a play among 2A class and 2B. The play we were making was "Romeo and Juliet", but more in a way appropriated for children of all ages.

Like it was obvious all of our students wanted to play the protagonists, so Wilmer and I decided to raffle the parts. Evelyn got Juliet and Jake got Romeo. Wilmer's students got annoyed because both of the protagonists were from 2A. I promised I didn't cheat, but I was really happy that my little ones got them!

We had been rehearsing for like a month already, since we came back from the camp and it was really emotional to see them act so amazing. They loved the story and they studied their lines very well it was so perfect.

Wilmer and I were sitting down at my desk, seeing them dressed in their costumes and acting. It was one of our lasts rehearsals.

—Romeo! —Evelyn shouted, starting her last sentence already—. You can't leave me alone! I can't live without you!

She leaned down to Jake and kissed his cheek. Then, she headed to take the can of the supposed poison Romeo had drunk and she gave it a sip. Right when she did it, she threw herself to the floor, making like if she fell down dead.

Wilmer and I stood up and we started to clap like crazy.

—That was freaking amazing guys! —Wilmer shouted and I kept smiling.

—Yey! Thanks! —all of them shouted.

—But I still can't get why they let their families separate them! —Allyson complained, crossing her arms.

—What do you mean? —Evans asked her.

—If Romeo loved Juliet and Juliet loved Romeo, what was the problem? —she explained—. They shouldn't let their families stop it! They should have fought for their love!

—You're right! —Jake jumped and stood up on his desk—. That's what you have to do Mr. Valderrama, and Miss Lovato! You should go and face all of them! Tell them what you feel!

Wilmer and I chuckled. We wished it was so easy.

—Guys, this is not that easy as you think —I told them—. We need to accept it, we knew this wasn't okay and we still did it... Now we have to face the consequences, like every adult should.

—I hate adults! —Evans murmured, making us laugh.

—Wait to see! I bet you'll hate even more being one!

Normal POV

The break time arrived and all the children ran out. It was Wilmer's turn to take care of the students on the playground, so he was drinking a coffee while walking from one side to another.

—Hi Mr. Wilmer!

He turned around, took his sun sunglasses off and looked down to the three little girls talking to him.

—Hello, girls! —he waved back at Violet, Evelyn and Allyson—. Aren't you playing?

—We were, but we thought it was more interesting to talk to you —Evelyn replied chuckling.

—You think so? I don't think I'm that interesting —Wilmer joked.

—You are! —Allyson giggled—. We wanted to ask you something...

Wilmer looked at them smiling, they were too cute.

—Surprise me! —he replied.

—What do you feel when you are in love? Is it real, that you have butterflies in your stomach? —Evelyn asked joyfully.

He laughed about their question and he started to think about the answer.

—Well... um... when you are in love... —he stopped to keep thinking out to explain it—. When you are in love, you have the need to be near that person you love all the time... when you are with that person you are the happiest person...

—What about the butterflies, Mr. Valderrama? —Violet asked, smirking.

—The butterflies... —he laughed—. It's not that you really have butterflies... It's the feeling you have of happiness, nervousness, love, joy, attraction... all of them mixed together.

"Mr. Eduardo Valderrama, and Miss Demetria Devonne Lovato, come to my office as soon as possible. Please" it was heard from the school's speakers.

—Oh no! He is like a pain in the butt! —Evelyn complained and made Wilmer and her friends laugh.

—Evelyn, don't shout that near teachers, okay? —Wilmer told her trying to contain his laughter—. Go playing, I need to go upstairs!

Miss Sarah went to the playground to replace Mr. Valderrama while he went to talk to Mr. Davis.

Demi's POV

—Kelsey! —I called my mate when I saw her in the corridors.

—Hey Demi! How is it going?

—Well, getting by the best we can —I replied—. I have to go to Mr. Davis' office now; could you watch out my students for some seconds if I'm not back before the break time ends?

—Of course! I'm free these next two hours, don't worry!

—Thanks! How is your pregnancy going, by the way! —I asked, smiling—. I see that little belly growing! —I rubbed her stomach.

—Aw, it's going great! Thank you! —Kelsey told me happily—. We will know the sex next week!

—Oh! That's amazing!

—Are you really okay, Demi? You don't look so good... —she said, putting her arm over me.

—Oh, it's nothing —Demi replied—. I'm feeling quite nauseous, that's all.

—Nauseous, again? You should visit the doctor...

—No, I know myself and I use to have stomach aches when I'm going through a difficult time and I'm nervous and anxious and all that...

—I understand —Kelsey said sadly—... Stay strong Demi! —she kissed my cheek— See you then!

I walked to Mr. Davis' office and knocked on his door. He told me I could go in, so I did. When I opened the door Wilmer was already sitting down in from of him.

—Get a sit Miss Demetria —he told me.

I sat down next to Wilmer and he placed his hand on my knee, under the table.

—I just wanted to know if you already have any solution... —he asked looking at us.

Wilmer and I looked at each other and then we looked back at him, shaking our heads "no".

—Well, you have less than 48h to give me your verdict —he told us—. I'd love to tell you things have gotten better, but they haven't and this all is still on.

—We know —I told him—. You will have the verdict on Friday.

—Nice... —Mr. Davis replied—. You can leave.

I stood up and walked back to the door, Wilmer walking behind me.

—We must think about this shit —he whispered to me when he closed Mr. Davis' office's door.

—We do —I told him—. We should quit the job... the both of us.

—No way, Demi! —he said—. You need to keep this job.

—Shut up Wilmer... —I shouted to him, starting to feel worse than before.

—This job is very important to you Demi! It means everything to you! —he kept talking to me, but suddenly I couldn't hear him properly—. I should be the one leaving... I will find something...

I put my left hand on my sweaty forehead and my right one on the wall, trying to hold on not to fall.

—Are you listening to me Demi? —he said and obviously I was not—. Demi, are you okay?

I suddenly started to hear a little whistle and I started to see all blurred. Then I fell down in Wilmer's arms, who realized it fast enough for me not to fall to the floor.

***

—Demi, open your eyes —Kelsey and Wilmer were talking to me when I went back to the world.

—Excuse me! —I said before getting up and running to the closest bathroom.

I heard Wilmer and Kelsey coming behind me, but I couldn't wait for them because I really needed a toilet in that moment.

I bent down, put my hair in a messy bun and I started to vomit, while tears ran down my cheeks, because of the effort I was making.

Wilmer opened my bathroom's door easily, as I didn't even have time to close it.

—Um... I think someone needs to prove something... —Kelsey whispered, chuckling.

—What? —Wilmer replied, handing Demi a cup of water and some toilet tissues.

—Nothing, I just think Demi should go to the doctor —she added and I pretended I didn't listen.

—Demi she is right, you've been throwing up a lot lately —Wilmer told me concerned, while he moved my hair off my face.

—I will go to the pharmacy today, don't worry —I told them—. I will buy something for my stomach... —I added, standing up.

Honestly, I had been playing down these symptoms for like weeks... But Wilmer was already getting weirded out and I was starting to suspect something too...

I hoped it wasn't what it looked like, because it was not the best moment for that...
