It was the next day after I had run into Jimin at the pool. I had not realized how much I had hurt my brothers, especially Jimin, when I had changed. No wonder they've been distant from me. I kept letting them down to go party at bars! And Jimin, for him to have a crush on someone and then they change but he can't let go of them and watch them go off with other people...how could I have done that to my precious Jimin? I never intended to hurt my brothers, especially Jimin. Jimin has always been important to me and I hurt him the most. I am so sorry, Jimin. I promise I will make it up to you.
I had vented to Namjoon when I had gotten home when he asked me what had happened. I told him my plan that would make my brothers and my dear Jimin happy. I am going to go cold turkey and quit drinking, smoking, and partying altogether. I will get a job and get enough money to buy a house, support myself, and a partner. The only person who knows is Namjoon and I know he will not tell the others until it is ready to be revealed.
It was around eight o'clock in the morning and I had already showered and clothed myself in a tuxedo. I looked at myself in the mirror and couldn't help but smile. In good time, I will be able to spend the rest of my life with Jimin, my dearest brother who happened to steal my heart. Although I may not have seen it at the beginning of yesterday, by midnight, I knew he was the one for me. I was ashamed that I never saw it sooner but I'm happy I saw it when I did.
I left my apartment and approached the uber that sat waiting for me outside. I climbed inside and gave the driver the address I needed to be at.
"Job interview?" the driver asked as we hit the road.
"Yes. I am very confident about this one," I said, not wanting to get into my personal life with the stranger.
"I bet you'll do great, then," he said and that ended the conversation.
I was on my way to my father's business building. My father has always wanted me to take over the business ever since I was young. Now that I got some sense knocked into me, I was going to talk to him for a spot in the business and eventually work my way up the ladder.
We eventually arrived at the large fifty-two story building. I thanked the uber driver and made my way into the building. Heads turned as I entered the lobby. I knew they were thinking that I was the boss's son. I just strutted over towards the front desk, trying to look professional.
The lady lifted her head and showed a bright smile, greeting, "Good morning! How may I help you?"
"Is Mr. Kim busy? I'd like to speak with him," I responded.
The lady turned to her computer screen and I heard a few clicks of her mouse. She then turned to me answering, "You came just in time. He is open for conversing. May I have a name so that I can ask him if he would be willing to speak with you?"
"Kim Seokjin," I told her.
She paused for a moment, her hand hovering over the phone. She blinked at me then her face lit up as she recalled, "I remember know! You're Mr. Kim's son! It's nice to see you again, Seokjin. I'm not sure if you remember me, Miss Choi?"
Memories from when I was a little boy and my father brought me into the building to show me around and how some of the business stuff worked. Miss Choi worked the front desk back then, too.
"I remember! You gave me dums dums every time I came!" I said, letting out a short laugh after I spoke.
"I'm Mrs. Park now. You weren't able to make it to the wedding because you had caught a bad cold," Mrs. Park said.
"I remember that. I was very upset that I wasn't able to go."
"Your father had said that you were really upset. He wasn't able to stay for most of the reception because he wanted to get back home to care for you."
That was one thing I had always admired about my father. He cared about his coworkers and business partners and family. As busy as he was, he always found time for them. I wanted to be like that for Jimin and my brothers as well as everybody who would be working for me when I took my father's place.
"Well, I'll let him know you're here," she said and picked up the phone.
As I expected, I was able to go to his office to speak to him. I remembered where it was and went there on my own. I opened the door and entered the familiar room with my beloved father sitting behind the desk.
He lifted his head and the brightest smile came across his face. He stood up and held his arms out, saying, "Jin! It's wonderful to see you here!"
I approached him and hugged him before we sat down.
"So what brings you here in that lovely suit? I didn't even know you owned that," my father asked.
"Dad, it has recently come to my attention that I had changed for the worst after high school and I want to change that. I'm going to go cold turkey and stop drinking, smoking, and partying altogether."
"Are you sure you can just go cold turkey like that?"
"Yes because of my motivation. I realized that I had hurt my brothers, Yoongi, Hoseok, Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook by becoming a reckless and different person and I want to change that. I am going to get a job and eventually buy a house for me and someone special."
"And who is this special person you will be living with?"
"Jimin. He meant the most to me and I hurt him the most. He has a crush on me for the longest time and the more I thought about, the more I realized how good we would be together. I developed feelings for him last night and I want to make him happy after all the pain I've put him through. What I'm trying to say is, is there a position you can put me in that will allow me to work up the ladder and get me to your position when you're ready for retirement?"
My old man looked at me and I could see his eyes becoming glossy. I know he had lost hope of me taking over the business when I adopted that bad lifestyle and I know that hearing all this information would make him emotional.
He leaned forward on the desk and looked at me, an unreadable expression on his face. He spoke softly and genuinely as he said, "My dear Jin, I would be more than happy to have you working here."
As I stood up and shook my father's hand, I made a vow in my head. I would always be there for Jimin like he was always there for me, even after everything I put him through. I was going to be the best that I could be for everyone around me and my dear Jimin.
And thus began my journey for a better life for me, my brothers, and especially my dear Jimin.
