Luuurve is in the Air
04:38, 3 October 2014The next week flew by for Neville. It seemed as if the professors were cramming in as much homework and tests as possible before Christmas break. He wanted to sort things out with Luna, but he had been so busy he hadn’t had the time. If he did, he had no clue what he would say.
As he was walking back from his last class of the day, Herbology, he had barely made it back into the castle when he heard peeves chanting repetitively. “Potty asked Loony to the party! Potty lurves Loony! Potty luuuuurves Loooony!” Neville immediately recognized him to be talking about Harry and Luna. He furrowed his brows. Harry knew Neville liked Luna, and he had never heard him say anything about liking Luna as more than a friend. He was determined to get to the bottom of it.
Neville couldn't help but feel flustered and slightly angry, and it didn't help that he was still shivering from his walk from the greenhouses (Luna still had his coat). He sped up his walk, eager to get to the common room to sort things out.
“-she’s so excited.” Neville figured the voice to belong to Ginny as he walked through the common room entrance. Upon walking further into the room, he noticed that she was seated by the fireplace, talking to Ron and Harry. None of them had seen him yet since they were facing away from him. Neville took a few steps until he was standing only a few feet behind them.
“So what's this I hear about you asking Luna to Slughorn’s party?” Neville asked frigidly, making sure the look on his face read ‘displeased’. He was determined not to shy away from his intentions like he had done countless times in the past. He was going to get to the bottom of it.
The three turned in their seats. “Oh, hello Neville, I didn't see you there,” Harry said. Neville remained stoic in his expression.
“You know I like her.”
“We’re going just as friends. I don't like her like that.”
“Then why was Peeves flying around the castle, yelling about you loving her?” Neville asked, his voice rising.
“Calm down, Neville. You know that Peeves just likes to cause trouble.” Neville relaxed. He was right.
“Bloody hell, mate, you really are mad for her,” Ron spoke up.
“Sorry. . . I think I’ll be heading to the dormitory to study,” Neville said shamefully as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“Me too,” Ginny announced. “I can't focus with you two monkeys around,” she spat playfully. She hit them each on the head lightly with her textbook.
Ginny sped walked to catch up with Neville. Once she was in close proximity she whispered, “Will you please talk to her at the party? She’s probably been too embarrassed to since. . . you know. I wasn't there, but it sounded pretty bad. She really likes you.” Neville nodded and smiled crookedly in response before leaving to his room.
