The Night

00:37, 5 February 2017

Tyler's POV

I slowly drifted into a deep sleep. It was here where I began to dream.

I was in a room that was partially dark. Behind me was a window where sunshine poured in delicately allowing me to see what I was sitting on.

I sat on a little bench with my hands above a familiar sight: A piano. The same piano I bought myself after Josh left and practiced whenever I was lonely. This piano stood with me through thick and thin. I've learned to play a couple of songs on here as well as make some of my own. One of them was inspired by Josh and I'd play it on his birthday even though he wasn't here. It was a rather sad song but it made me happy and hopeful.

I wanted to play it here in this dream. I positioned my hands on the piano keys and began to play to a crowd of silence.

Now, the night is coming to an end,

Oooooooh

The sun will rise,

and we will try again,

Oooooooh

Stay alive, stay alive for me.

You will die,

But now your life is free,

Take pride in what is sure

to die.

I will fear the night again,

Ooooooh

I hope I'm not,

my only friend.

Ooooooh

"Your voice is beautiful Tyler."

I stopped singing and my hands froze above the piano keys. I looked up and saw a familiar shade of mocha eyes looking into mine.

"Hey Josh." I said as I smiled faintly at him. He smiled back.

"Hi Tyler. I see you're playing piano again in your dream. It's been awhile since you had a dream with your piano in it. I missed that." Josh said as he leaned on the piano.

"Tell me about it. It's a been awhile, yes. But it's been longer since I've seen you in real life. I miss you." I confessed.

Josh chuckled. "I know Tyler, I know. But I'm here in your dreams. At least that's something."

I sighed. "Well yeah but it's been ten years. I mean you know that right? It just sucks how I only get to see you in my dreams. It's not fair. Are you even alive?"

Josh got closer. "Of course I am Tyler. I am alive. I'm just locked away in some stupid place. I had no choice."

"I know you didn't. I just don't think I can go another day without seeing you again. I miss you so much but then again, you're the only thing keeping me alive right now. I improved my life just for you. All these years I sit by the window waiting for you to come home again and into my arms. It's so stupid. You're never coming back, are you?" I said as I put my head down on the piano. "It's not fair."

Josh came over to my side and sat down next to me on the bench. He wrapped his arm around me. "Tyler don't be so hard on yourself. I'm still alive okay? I'm not sure when I'm coming back but look at me." I looked at him as he put his hands on my face. "I promise I'll be home eventually. When I get back, we can have a huge sleepover and play songs and we'll have a sick time together once more."

I smiled. "But what if you aren't coming back home at all? What will I do?"

Josh thought for a second before coming with an answer. "Well you can always try to come get me. I don't know. Break in this stupid place and help me escape. I've been through a lot in here. I need you to come save me.  Come save your prince."

"I just don't know how to get in there. I would if I could but it's not that easy Josh." I bit my lip. "How could get in there without being arrested for breaking in and trespassing?"

Josh looked at me. "Well, this is a maximum security prison. Perhaps you can think of something that will get you in here. Think of something like bigger than robbing bank. Bigger than kidnapping. Bigger than stealing the Constitution. A crime so big, it can land you in here."

I looked at him puzzled. "You don't mean..."

Josh patted my back. "I don't have any other ideas Ty." He sighed. "I just don't want to be in here all locked up and scared. Please help me Tyler. You're my only hope. I believe in you."

Josh kissed my forehead and then got up from the bench, going back in front of the piano and leaned on it.

"I...I can try Josh. For you." I told him kind of somewhat unsure.

He chuckled. "You always believed in me Tyler. I always believed in you too. This time is no different. I'll be waiting for you my sweet prince. I also love and miss you too."

I felt my heart warm up and I got up from the bench and leaned into Josh and kissed him. "I love you. I miss you more."

I sat back down on the bench and he then sat on the piano.

"Now, why don't you finish that song of yours? I'd love to hear your voice again. I want to hear how it ends." He closed his eyes and listened as I finished the song.

Stay alive, stay alive, for me.You will die, but now your life is free,

Take prideIn what is sureTo die.

As I played the last few notes, the room around me slowly disappeared and the last thing I saw was Josh as he smiled with his eyes closed humming to the sound of the piano. He too then faintly vanished.

I closed my eyes as everything went to black.

---------------------------------------------------------------

BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!

My alarm clock was buzzing. I shut it off.

I got up from my sleep and rubbed my eyes. It was 6:29 in the morning. I stretched my arms and yawned.

I remembered my dream and how Josh gave me advice in it.

He was suggesting that I could either break in to save him or commit a very big crime to get in there with him.

The idea of both was very scary but Josh needed me. He missed me and he wanted me to come save him. I was honestly scared.

But I shouldn't be scared. Josh needs to come home. He needed to be free again.

I knew just what to do in order to get him out.

Third-person POV

"So I sense something going on with Joshua. Something strange. It seems almost peculiar."

The young man put on black jeans, a black long sleeved shirt and black shoes. He grabbed a pair of black shades and put them on.

"Well dude, I think I should go and see what good old Joshua is up to. I think we're going to have another  talk with him. This should be...pretty sick."

The young man then opened the door and made his way down the hall slowly. No one could see him walk down through those halls.

Only Joshua could see him. He knew that.
