After the Calamity

Link awoke suddenly from his bed in Foothill stables. He hadn't been able to sleep recently... the pressures of saving a whole kingdom and a princess he had barely any memory of resonated in him like a weight.

He had an unsettling dream that night- he dreamt the Princess lay motionless on the path to Foothill Stables as a horse reared up on its hind legs next to her. It looked as if the princess fell off of her horse. Nobody was there to catch her. Link was frozen in his dream- trying to get to her was like trying to move through wet cement. The horse whinnied and cried and moved its hooves anxiously, when suddenly a Yiga jumped out of the bushes and put his hand on Zelda. They both instantly disappeared.

"How'd ya sleep?" the host asked. Link rubbed his eyes and slowly got out of his bed. He smiled half-heartedly and nodded at the host. "I'll take that as a 'well'," the kind man said.

Link looked around at the beds next to him. For some reason, it felt weird waking up alone. Especially here. He didn't understand the sensation.

Feeling discomfort in his stomach, he stood up and walked outside to a cooking pot where he cooked himself an omelette to start his day.

Is she okay? He thought to himself. The dream felt real, it felt like something bad was going to happen... to the princess.

Link could barely remember anything about the princess. He remembered when walking to Goron City with her and a few other things, but she was mostly a mere concept to him. The Princess of Hyrule.

Link mounted his horse that he caught grazing in Hyrule field and rode onward toward Death Mountain, preparing to free the divine beast Vah Rudania. Something felt wrong. Something felt really wrong.
