Chapter 1: I Forgot
04:39, 25 January 2024Author's Note: I know that BTS plans to enlist in the military some time in 2022, if not later. But, in an ideal world, they would not have to enlist and since this is a fanfic, I will be pretending that they do not have to enlist in the military.
*Location: Paris, France*
In September of 2022, Juliette, a 25 year old half French and half Korean talented painter, was preparing to paint live in front of a very prestigious French artist named Esme Raysse. Juliette's painting skills had become very popular on social media. Her speciality was portraits and she was going to paint a portrait of the French artist who would be visiting her. Mrs. Raysse promised that if satisfied, she would put her portrait up in one of the art museums in France. Juliette was very excited but also very nervous because she had never painted in front of such a prestigious artist before. Her agent and closest cousin, Valerie, was going to be at the portrait painting to ease her nerves and make sure that her painting made it to the museum safely.
"Valerie," Juliette began, "You don't even know if Mrs. Raysse will like the portrait I make of her."
"I trust your skills," Valerie replied, "She will love it! I have no doubt."
"I wish I was as confident as you in my skills."
"You wouldn't be where you are now and you wouldn't have so many followers if you painted like trash."
"No. I wouldn't have many followers if you didn't handle all my social media. I sucked at promoting myself until you came in."
"Oh c'mon, you could've promoted yourself better without my help too, you just needed to get into the algorithm. You can take over anytime you want."
"Do not ever give me the passwords to my accounts, I'd rather not have to deal with it because I know I will f*ck it up."
"As you please, but you can always manage the account whenever you'd like. You get so many DMs and I feel bad replying for you sometimes, people think it's you."
"As long as you're not making me out to be a dick, it's all good with me. Anyway, enough chit chat, I need help grabbing my supplies from my art room and bringing them into my living room."
"Why don't you just paint her in your art room?"
"I like the background in my living room better for the portrait."
Juliette and Valerie grabbed the necessary art supplies to paint the portrait; various paintbrushes, different paints, some sponges, a paint tray, water cup, and the giant canvas she would be painting on. She set herself up, put on her apron, and took some deep breaths as she was only minutes away from meeting Esme Raysse.
Upon her arrival, Juliette invited her to have a seat and pick out her pose and asked if she wanted a realistic portrait or an abstract portrait.
"I want to put your art skills to the test; I would like a mix of both," Mrs. Raysse said.
"As you wish Madame Raysse," Juliette replied with a smile.
She mixed her colors, filled her cup with water, and dipped her brush in the paint to begin. She reached up to the canvas and held her hand there ready to paint but did not move. She was frozen in the pose for what seemed like an eternity.
"Is everything alright?" Mrs. Raysse asked.
"Yeah Juliette, why aren't you painting? Are you thinking about how to start?" Valerie said.
"I forgot," Juliette replied.
"What did you forget? I can go grab it for you," Valerie commented.
"I forgot how to paint."
*Meanwhile, in Seoul, South Korea*
Twenty-six year old Park Jimin, a member of the well known k-pop group BTS was preparing for a performance on live television. Backstage, he had his makeup artists and hairstylist do their last minute touch ups on his look for the show. The sound crew gave all the members their microphones so they could perform "On" and "Fire." Before stepping on stage, Namjoon gave them a pep talk and then they headed to their positions. They stood at their starting poses for the choreography and the crew queued the music for "On."
Jimin walked to his position to sing and dance the first lines but suddenly, he was only able to sing and continued walking. He was not able to do the choreography and froze on stage out of embarrassment. The other members looked at him in shock and confusion while the audience began to whisper amongst each other. Jimin could not take it anymore and ran back into the dressing room. The MC called for an unexpected commercial break as the other six members followed Jimin into the dressing room.
"What happened out there?" Namjoon asked him, concerned.
"Are you feeling alright hyung?" Jungkook asked.
"I feel fine but I forgot the moves," Jimin replied.
"Did the nerves get to you?" Jin asked him.
"Did we not practice enough?" J-Hope said.
"No, no. I...forgot how to dance all of a sudden."
*Back in Paris*
"I think I know what happened," Valerie said.
"Wait," Juliette said, "You don't think that means...no it can't be! It's a little late don't you think?"
"There's no other explanation for this."
"Madame Raysse, I think we'll have to do the portrait another time. I am truly sorry! You know that this can be unexpected."
"No worries," Mrs. Raysse said with a gentle smile, "I had the same issue with my husband."
"Thank you for being so understanding," Juliette replied.
Esme Raysse left Juliette's house so she and Valerie could talk. After putting away all the art supplies into the art room again, they sat down at the kitchen to drink some tea while they chatted about what had happened.
*Back in Seoul*
BTS apologized to everyone in the audience as they walked back on stage to continue their performance but they announced that Jimin had hurt his leg and would be sitting for the remainder of the performances to avoid straining it further. They finished the show and their interview before going back to the dorms and discussing what happened to him over a late lunch.
"I think your time has come," Taehyung commented.
"It's kind of late though, I doubt it's that," Jimin replied.
"Nonsense! I didn't find mine until last year, remember? And I was 28! It was difficult for me to deal with it because I seriously thought I'd go through life without mine but alas, here we are, a year later, together," Jin reminded him.
"I guess it's not super unexpected to find my soulmate at this age," Jimin replied.
