17 || DICK ROMAN

18:58, 30 July 2023

For most of her life, Vanessa had gotten well used to packages arriving at her doorstep, her online shopping addiction had struck hard during lockdown. However, now that she was in a whole different world, she had gotten used to not receiving anything other than her monthly Irish gift boxes from Balthazar or Crowley.

That was until she started receiving Leviathan heads from Bobby, Rufus or even Garth, all of whom had prayed for Balthazar who was less than happy at having to play delivery angel for anyone other than Vanessa.

"Some more heads for you, dear." Balthazar said as he dumped a rather soggy looking box onto the library table, one that had thankfully been covered with a sheet as to not get ruined by Leviathan goo.

"My favourite part of the week." Vanessa mumbled unenthusiastically as she got to her feet and opened the box, scrunching up her nose at the sight within. "Lovely."

"Which one is it this time?" Sam asked curiously, and not at all jealous of Vanessa's new role of Leviathan identifier.

"Uh, it looks like the real estate lady and her assistant." Vanessa said, a little more chipper now as she stared down at the lifeless head of Joyce Bickleebee, the Leviathan real estate agent and her assistant George.

"You seem almost... happy?" Sam questioned as Vanessa closed the closed the box, sliding it away from her and heading to her whiteboard to cross the names off her list of known and somewhat important Leviathans, which was slowly getting shorter as more and more heads where being dropped off.

"Well, killing her means a good few people will live." Vanessa replied, remembering the episode with the cursed objects, the ballet shoes standing out to her most as she seemed to recall Dean touching them and getting a sudden urge to, quote, Prince Seigfried himself into oblivion.

But now that Joyce was dead, episode sixteen was unlikely to happen given that she wouldn't be around to kill the pawn shop owners mother, therefore he wouldn't go off and start selling all her cursed objects. Meaning those who had originally bought them, would live. A real win, if anyone asked Vanessa... They'd solved that case without it ever having to start.

Although she may send Bobby or Rufus to collect those cursed objects and bring them here, that way it'll be guaranteed that they never hurt anyone again. But in the meantime, it was back to planning how to go about taking down Dick Roman and the rest of his little Leviathan crew.

After bidding Balthazar goodbye, and supplying him with some scones she'd baked earlier, Vanessa stood with her arms folded, looking at her Leviathan whiteboard. Which happened to look a little something like this:

"Only three names left to cross off." Sam said rather proudly as he stepped up next to Vanessa, his arms also folded as he glanced at her whiteboard.

"Those are just the ones I can remember..." Vanessa sighed out, running her hand through her thick curls before she leaned her head against Sam's arm. "What we really need to do is take out Dick Roman, you know, cut the head off the snake."

"As long as two more heads don't grow in it's place, I agree with that plan." Dean added, stepping up to Vanessa's other side.

"But I just have no idea how to go about doing that..." Vanessa began, her hand moving to feel the small square in her pocket, the square that happened to be the phone she'd taken from Valente's body when he cornered her in the store. "Unless, we lure him out in the open."

"Meaning?" Sam asked, looking down at Vanessa and not particularly liking the scheming look on her face.

"Well, I still have Valente's phone... Which happens to have Dick Roman's phone number in it." Vanessa replied, pulling the phone from her pocket and flipping it in her fingers.

"No. No way." Sam said straight up, shaking his head. As did Dean who also had multiple objections to Vanessa's obvious plan.

"Why not? It's the best plan we've got." Vanessa sighed, lifting her head and walking back over the the table, which she hopped up onto and sat down with her legs crossed beneath her. "We've been brainstorming for weeks now, ever since Valente showed up and we've got feck all... So if you have a better plan, I'm all ears, otherwise..."

Both Sam and Dean shared a look, one that clearly showed they didn't exactly agree with this idea but at the same time they knew they didn't stand a chance against the wrath of Vanessa should they say no.

"Okay, fine." Sam sighed in defeat, turning his attention back to Vanessa who was taking pictures of the two of them on Valente's phone.

"But you put the call on speaker, and if we don't like what we hear, you're hanging up." Dean warned, pointing towards her with a stern look on his face... That made a great photo, one she knew would have made tumblr fans go feral back in the days of SuperWhoLock... Back in the trenches so to speak.

"Aye aye, captain." Vanessa said with a salute before she opened the contact list and clicked on Dick Roman's name.

The phone rang... and rang... before finally, Dick picked up, his smug voice flowing through the phone and into the air.

"I'm going to assume this isn't Valente." Were Dick's first words, his tone indicating that he didn't assume anything and that he knew fully well it wasn't. After all, it had been weeks since he sent Valente after Vanessa and he hadn't heard a single word back from him.

"Ten points to you, Mr Roman." Vanessa replied humorously, the phone balancing on her knee as she remained seated on the table.

"Ah, Miss Monroe, I'm guessing..." Dick breathed out, seemingly glad to hear it was her. "It sure is great to put a voice to the name I've heard so much about. Oh, and please... Call me Dick."

Vanessa could see that creepy ass smile Dick always had for people and it made her skin crawl.

"Yeah, I ain't gonna do that." Vanessa replied casually, knowing she'd have wiped the smile off his face. "Listen, here's the thing... Richard. Your little plan to have Valente take over my life? Yeah, I know all about that. Valente got real chatty, you know, right before he was decapitated... Anyhoo, that plan of yours, it would never have worked."

"Is that so?" Dick replied, not seemingly caring about the news of Valente's misfortune. "You seem utterly sure of yourself."

"Oh I am, Ricky, I really am. You see, while Valente got my exquisite good looks accurate." She said dramatically, flipping her hair a little and making the boys chuckle to themselves. "There's a few things about little old me that he just wouldn't be able to replicate."

"Do tell." Dick replied, curious and also ignoring the different ways she went about saying his name.

"Well for starters I'm basically one in a million, and no matter how good a Leviathan he may have been... There's no way Valente would have been able to pull me off correctly." Vanessa began, the boys nodding in agreement as they felt they'd have been able to tell the minute Vanessa had been replaced, if it had gotten to that point.

"And secondly, you really didn't do your research on me beforehand, did you? I mean, sure, you got the full download from Castiel while you were nestled inside him, but you see... Afterwards something happened to me, something you couldn't possibly have known. Something that basically made me irreplaceable, well, more so than before."

"And what might that be?" Dick asked, seeming like he was losing his patience over Vanessa's incredible ability to drag out a simple fact.

"I'm a Prophet of the Lord... One who's currently housing a little grace from everyone's favourite archangel... Lucifer himself." Vanessa said, speaking for herself obviously as the boys didn't have a favourite archangel. "So, unless you have grace and prophet juice tucked away inside that tacky blue suit you like to wear, there's not a chance in Hell, literally, that Valente could have impersonated me correctly."

"My, you sure love hearing the sound of your own voice, don't you?" Dick said a touch angrily, whether it be over the news of Vanessa's celestial addition or the fact that she'd dissed his suit, nobody really knew.

"Guilty." Vanessa replied humorously and with a tilt of her head. "And with an accent like mine, who wouldn't."

"I guess the rumours I heard about you being utterly insufferable were true." Dick replied, the hatred he felt for Vanessa clear, even through the phone.

"Me? Insufferable? Never!" Vanessa said sarcastically, like his words were going to affect her. She was Irish, it would take a lot more than being called insufferable to get to her.

"Oh, you're definitely going to be the first person I eat when I wipe out your sad, pathetic little race."

"Okay relax, Thanos... Maybe we should talk this out, what do you say? Perhaps, face to face?" Vanessa suggested, wondering if Dick would take the bait.

Dick pondered for a moment, thinking about any ulterior motives Vanessa may have for wanting to set up a meeting between them. Sure, he knew that she knew how to slow Leivathans down, that was clear given how many of them had suddenly vanished off the face of the Earth. But did she know how to kill them? And was he willing to risk it?

"All right, let's meet." Dick replied, to their surprise. "But you come alone. No pet Winchesters and no angels or demons."

"Fine." Vanessa replied, waving her hand towards the guys who looked as though they wanted to protest.

"Fantastic." Dick said, the obvious smile on his face was clear even through the phone. "I'll text you an address... Meet me there, in say, one hour?"

"See you then." Vanessa replied before hanging up the phone and setting it on the table next to her. "God, he's a creepy bastard, isn't he."

"If you even think that you're going to meet this d-bag on your own... You have another thing coming." Dean said immediately, and not at all to Vanessa's surprise.

"I'm not going to be alone." Vanessa replied, a scheming smile on her face as she pulled out her own phone and shot a quick text to the person, or rather, being, who would be accompanying her. "I'll have back-up, and Dick won't even see it coming."

"Who?" Sam asked curiously as Vanessa slid off the table.

"You'll find out... Now, where did we put that bone for the weapon?" She asked, her hands on her hips as she looked around the room.

"Hold up, you're gonna try and kill him? All by yourself?" Dean said, lacking confidence in his voice about the whole idea.

"I'm perfectly capable of stabbing some creepy bastard by myself, Dean." Vanessa replied, spotting the bone sitting on a shelf and skipping over to grab it. "Blood?"

"Fridge." Sam replied with a sigh, Vanessa nodding her head and skipping, once again, towards the little fridge in the library.

"You aren't a hunter, Ness... This could go very wrong, very quickly." Dean said seriously as Vanessa set up a bowl, placing the bone pointy side down into it.

"Okay rude." Vanessa replied, folding her arms. "After everything I've done for you eejits, I think I deserve the title of hunter, don't you?"

"What Dean meant to say is that you're not an experienced hunter. You haven't fought anything, nor have you been on any proper cases... Don't you think you're maybe jumping the gun a little here?" Sam said, a little worried that Vanessa's eagerness to kill Dick Roman would instead get her killed.

"You guys underestimate me." Vanessa mumbled as she poured the blood over the bone and left it aside to dry in. "When Leviathans are about to kill someone, they usually grab hold of their throats before they eat them. Dean, pretend you're a Leviathan and go for my throat."

"All right." Dean shrugged after he contemplated for a second.

He walked towards Vanessa, his arm extended as if going to grab her by the throat when suddenly she grabbed his wrist, her sharp nails digging into his skin as she twisted it back. While he was distracted by the literal claws in his flesh, Vanessa slipped her foot between his legs, pushed him back with her free hand and he tripped, landing on his ass with an 'oof'.

"This is usually the part when I hit them with the double kick, once in the nuts and once in the face, but I'm guessing you wouldn't like that." Vanessa said smugly, her arms folded as Dean clumsily got to his feet.

"You guessed right." He groaned out, the hard wooden floor not exactly a soft landing.

"Say you take them down, then what do you do?" Sam asked, he was a touch relieved that Vanessa appeared to be trained in self defence to some extent, but whether it would be of any use to her in the supernatural world was to be decided.

"Get the hell out of there." She scoffed out, moving to dust a few little crumbs off Dean's back for him. "And before you ask me how, I'll just go ahead and tell you that I'll teleport out, with the help of my bodyguard who will be joining me."

"Teleport?"

"Bodyguard?"

"Hello, boys." The voice of the obvious answer to those questions filled the room, making the boys groan in annoyance and Vanessa smile. "Vanessa, darling." Crowley added with a nod of his head towards said woman.

"Crowley, thank you for coming." Vanessa replied, Crowley still not used to having someone be so polite towards him.

"Your big idea is Crowley?" Dean said unamused, gesturing towards the demon who just rolled his eyes and he stepped closer to them.

"You always underestimate my abilities, Squirrel." Crowley began, humorously. "Truly, it breaks my heart."

"Give it a rest." Vanessa sighed, not in the mood to hear the two of them bickering.

"I'm sorry but how exactly do you plan on sneaking Crowley in with you? Dick said to go alone, there's no way he's letting him walk in the front door." Dean pointed out, but it seemed as though Vanessa had a solution to that. A solution she knew they'd probably hate even more than her one on one meeting with Roman.

"Oh, he will be letting him in the front door, only he won't know that." Vanessa replied, her and Crowley appearing to be the only ones who knew what she was planning. "Balthazar, can you please come here a second."

"Yes dear?" Balthazar said as he swiftly appeared, something he always did when he heard Vanessa call.

"I need you to burn off my tattoo." Vanessa said casually, pulling her shirt aside and it was in that moment that both Sam and Dean realised exactly how she was going to sneak Crowley in.

"Possession?" The brothers said in unison as they watched the glow from Balthazar's hand as he did what he was asked and burned Vanessa's anti-possession tattoo away.

"You two have a better idea?" Vanessa asked, folding her arms and waiting, their silence stating the obvious. "Well then, possession it is."

"Can't you get Cas to possess you, or even Balthazar?" Sam asked, preferring that a trusted angel possess his girlfriend rather than the King of Hell.

"I can't." Vanessa replied softly, appreciating Sam's concern for her. "Leviathans as high up as Roman can block an angel's powers, meaning that he could stop us from being able to zap out of there. Crowley is the only option."

"You do know that once I possess you, I'll be able to see everything inside your head? Know everything that you know?" Crowley said, warning her as he knew just how much she knew about their lives. Most of which she refused to tell anyone

"I know." Vanessa sighed, thinking it was worth Crowley knowing about the future than having Dick Roman out in the world any longer. And if things went her way, she'd have the Leviathan business wrapped up a hell of a lot quicker than it had in the show, and that was a major win. "Just don't go snooping around too much."

"No promises." Crowley replied with his usual grin, but there were in fact promises. He wouldn't specifically go looking for information about his future. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to know, at least not now that he knew it would mostly likely be changing.

"Ness, can I talk to you a sec?" Sam asked, gestured towards the door in the library that led to the hallway, or he freaky circle as Vanessa called it.

Vanessa nodded in agreement, following Sam out into the hallway where he just let out a sigh before turning towards her.

"I don't like this, Ness." He said quietly, his hand running through his hair as he looked down at her. "Dick seemed a little too eager to meet you."

"Not surprising given that he knows I'm a prophet now." Vanessa replied, knowing fully well that she was now one of those people with that extra spark, as Dick called it. "But you don't need to worry, I'll have Crowley there with me."

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Sam said with a small scoff, to which Vanessa just ignored and took his hand.

"I know you don't necessarily trust Crowley, but I do, so just trust me when I tell you that he won't let anything happen to me." Vanessa said softly, looking up at him and waiting a second before he finally looked back down at her.

"Okay. I trust you." Sam exhaled. He kept having to remind himself that Vanessa knew who they could trust and who they couldn't, something he often forgot. "Just... be careful. And don't antagonise Dick, don't give him a reason to eat you."

"I'll try." Vanessa said with a smile, leaning up to place a soft kiss on his lips. "You know, I love you."

"I know." Sam smiled back, brushing some hair behind her ear. "I love you too." He leaned down, giving her one last kiss before the two of them headed back to join the others.

"Ready?" Crowley asked towards Vanessa, having got himself situated in a seat.

"Ready." Vanessa nodded, taking a deep breath and preparing herself for a demonic possession... Let's hope her head didn't start spinning round or that she started throwing up pea soup all over the place.

"While we're gone, hands off the suit." Crowley warned the boys before his head flew back and his red essence came shooting out of his mouth, circling through the air and into Vanessa.

"Ness?" Sam called worried towards her, Vanessa's eyes flashing red for a split second before returning to normal. "Crowley...?"

"No, it's still me." Vanessa replied, shaking her head as though she was trying to get something off her head. "This feels weird."

"You're telling me." Crowley replied in her head, making her do the 'Castiel head tilt' over how strange it was to hear him inside her head. "Can you stop thinking so loudly."

"I'm not thinking loudly, you're talking loudly." Vanessa replied bitterly and with a slight scoff, the others just blinking at her as she seemingly argued with herself.

"Let's get a move on. As much as I've grown to like you, I don't want to spend any longer inside you than need be."

"Do not phrase it like that." Vanessa shuddered, her whole body forming goosebumps over his phrasing. "But fine, we can go."

After gathering the bone needed to kill Dick and assuring the boys she'd be safe, Vanessa (and Crowley) disappeared from the bunker, finding themselves outside a rather fancy looking bar.

"Here goes everything." Vanessa took a deep breath and pushed open the door. She was expecting to hear light music, some talking or any kind of noise really, but the inside was eerily silent. And empty.

"Relax, you'll be fine." Crowley assured her, hearing her thoughts about getting eaten in a bar that wasn't even Irish.

"Ah, Miss Monroe. Right on time." The smug sounding voice of Dick Roman greeted her ears and Vanessa turned on her heels, spotting him in a corner booth with a glass of scotch in his hand. "Please, take a seat."

"Alrighty." Vanessa said hesitatingly, as she slid into the booth, a little surprised she hadn't been frisked for weapons and also annoyed because she went to so much trouble hiding the weapon on her person.

"I'm surprised to see you came alone." Dick said, taking a sip of his scotch.

"I'm not surprised to see that you didn't." Vanessa replied bitterly, her eyes catching an all too familiar looking Leviathan approaching them. "Edgar, I hope you left your rocket launcher at home." She flashed a quick, cheeky grin at the unamused Leviathan, who ignored her and just whispered something to Dick before walking off.

"So, the future." Dick began, not showing anything on his face to indicate what Edgar had just whispered to him. "Tell me, what's that like?"

"Expensive." Vanessa replied, not exactly in the mood to make small talk... Although come to think of it, she didn't even have any idea what they were supposed to be talking about. She didn't even know what this meeting was for other than an attempt at killing him.

"Seriously? You came here without a clear plan... Vanessa." Crowley scolded, a faint tut following his words which Vanessa ignored.

"Yes, well, you humans are always messing things up now aren't you?" Dick replied with a chuckle, taking another sip of his scotch. "Now where are my manners? Can I get you something to drink?"

"Uh, no, I'm good, thanks." Vanessa replied, ignoring Crowley who was asking for a glass of scotch.

Before either of them could say anything else, the door Vanessa had previously entered from burst open and in walked a second Leviathan that Vanessa recognised but couldn't name. And he wasn't alone either... He was dragging Sam and Dean in by the scruff of their jackets.

"Found them outside, sir." The Leviathan said, thrusting the brothers towards the table, the two of them stumbling but managing to keep their footing.

"Thank you, Victor." Dick replied, nodding his head once towards Victor who returned it before leaving them alone. "Sam. Dean. How wonderful to see you both again."

"We've met?" Dean asked, a mix of disgust and disturbance on his face over Dick's creepy looking smile.

"We have, only then I was cooped up inside that angel friend of yours." Dick replied, swirling the last of his scotch in his glass before downing it and focusing his attention back onto Vanessa. "You broke my one rule we had for this meeting."

"I didn't." Vanessa replied, shooting a glare towards Sam and Dean. "They did... I was here alone before they showed up and there's no two guesses as to who was responsible for bringing them."

"Oh please Vanessa, I can smell the demon rooting around inside your head." Dick sighed out, standing up and straightening his jacket. "This meeting is over, have a good rest of your life... However short it may be." He added with a shit eating grin, one that made Vanessa's jaw clench.

It was now or never.

Dick began to walk away, his back to the three of them which was surprising but an advantage for Vanessa. Pulling the bone from her hair, where she'd hidden it amongst the thick curls incase they searched her for weapons, she smiled briefly at the brothers before following Roman.

"Hey, Dick." She called, not so much saying his name, more just calling him a dick. She flipped the bone once in her hand, catching it and hiding it behind her back before Dick stopped, slowly turning back to her. "How about you go straight back to Purgatory."

In one quick movement, one that wasn't expected from Dick, Vanessa plunged the sharp end of the bone straight through his neck. Honestly Vanessa couldn't believe she'd managed to do that without him catching her wrist given Leviathans quick reflexes. Guess it pays to be underestimated by others.

Dick's face transformed into the enormous, spiky teeth filled, mouth. His long tongue thrashed back and forth, a guttural roar filling the air before his face returned to normal, black goo leaking from his eyes, nose and mouth.

"Vanessa, get away from him." Crowley warned inside her head as he saw the pulsating energy radiate from Dick's body. He tried to teleport them away but for some reason he was stuck, unable to do anything but watch through Vanessa's eyes. "Vanessa!"

"Oh no." Dick gurgled, black goo falling from his mouth as he spoke, the energy getting sucked right back into him and with all his strength he grabbed Vanessa's wrist. "If I'm going... You're coming with me."

"Ness!" Sam and Dean shouted watching Dick's body pulsate and Vanessa struggle in his grasp. It was like their hearts stopped before black goo exploded everywhere, the brothers barely managing to cover their faces before the inevitable splat of goo hit them.

The two of them looked up, expecting to see Vanessa standing there covered in black goo, but there was nothing. No body, no nothing... Vanessa was gone.

"Dean... Where the hell is she?" Sam panted out, worry filling him over the absence of his girlfriend, and even Crowley.

"I, uh, I..." Dean breathed, wiping some goo off his hand onto his pant leg before he looked over at Sam. "...I think she's in Purgatory."

And of course, Dean was right because the next thing Vanessa knew she was standing in the middle of a washed out woods, swaying on her feet.

The trees around her rustled as she held her breath, her eyes beginning to water as she looked around her at the glowing red eyes that glared back at her.

"Crowley?" She whispered, feeling the fear build inside her over the haunting presence she felt around her, the snapping of twigs making her jump and each time the leaves rustled her body twitched.

"I'm here, darling." Crowley replied, a little weak sounding but that could be expected from the sudden Leviathan explosion.

"What do we do?" Vanessa whispered, her voice cracking a little as the heavy thuds of footsteps moved closer to the tree line. She turned her body in a circle, finding that she was almost completely surrounded.

"Run."

-uh oh, vanessa's is trouble 🫣

anyway, i hope them killing dick roman didn't seem to rushed or too quick? i just figured that since this is a fix it fic, one where the oc clearly knows things then those things should be allowed to move faster as that's basically the whole point? isn't it?

but yeah, i hope you liked this chapter and let me know if there's any specific episode/case you'd like to see vanessa work with the boys... you know, if she gets out of purgatory ;)

also i hope you liked my little rough drawing of vanessa's leviathan board, i figured it might be a nice little addition too this chapter so i just whipped something up quickly :)

okay i've talked enough, bye!
