CHAPTER 7

15:15, 15 July 2025

Facing Challenges

Y/nโ€™s POV

The alarm blared earlier than usual, but I was already awake. I had barely slept, my mind replaying yesterdayโ€™s awkward and painful encounter with Mr. Jeon over and over again.

Why did it bother me so much? Was it the way he spoke to me? Or the fact that I let his words affect me so deeply?

After a quick shower, I dressed in my usual casual outfitโ€”trying to look normal, even though my mind was anything but calm. I tied my hair into a loose ponytail and went downstairs.

---

In the Kitchen

I made myself a light breakfastโ€”toast and fruitโ€”and sat at the table in silence. Every bite tasted bland, like my thoughts were louder than everything else.

Extra classes with him begin todayโ€ฆ Great.

With a deep breath, I grabbed my bag and stepped out, hoping university would distract me from the growing anxiety in my chest.

At University โ€“ In Class

As soon as I entered the classroom, I spotted my best friends sitting at our usual corner. Their faces lit up when they saw me, but there was a certain softness in their expressions.

Before I could even sit down, Rose leaned in, worry etched into her features.

Rose: โ€œY/n, are you okay? You lookโ€ฆ distant.โ€

Jisoo and Jennie nodded, their eyes scanning my face as if trying to read my thoughts.

Yn: confused โ€œIโ€™m totally fine. Why are you guys acting like something tragic happened?โ€

Lisa: gently placing a hand on mine โ€œY/nโ€ฆ you donโ€™t have to pretend. Weโ€™re your friends. You can cry if you want to.โ€

Yn: realizing โ€œWaitโ€ฆ Is this about yesterday?โ€

All Together: โ€œYes.โ€

I let out a soft sigh, a weak smile tugging at the corner of my lips.

Yn: โ€œGuysโ€ฆ forget it. It happened. Itโ€™s over. Iโ€™m already past it.โ€

They exchanged glances, clearly not convinced, but respected my space.

Jennie: โ€œOkay. Just know weโ€™re here if you need anything.โ€

Lisa: โ€œAlways.โ€

---

Suddenly โ€“ In Class

The door opened, and silence fell over the room as Mr. Jeon walked in, dressed sharply as usual.

Mr. Jeon: in his signature cold tone โ€œGood morning, class. Letโ€™s begin todayโ€™s lesson.โ€

Everyone sat up straighter, pens ready. As he began explaining a new concept, I found myself scribbling notes, trying to focusโ€”trying hard.

I couldnโ€™t afford to fall behind again.

---

Midway Through the Lecture

Riya: raising her hand sweetly โ€œMr. Jeon, I didnโ€™t understand this question.โ€

She walked up to the board, pointing at one of the equations with exaggerated innocence.

Mr. Jeon raised an eyebrow.

Mr. Jeon: โ€œThis topic was covered in your first year, wasnโ€™t it?โ€

Riya: tilting her head and pouting slightly โ€œYes, sir. But the previous professor wasโ€ฆ really strict. He barely explained anything. I managed because my uncle helped me with everything.โ€

Then she paused, casting a pointed glance toward me before adding with a sugary-sweet smile:

Riya: โ€œBut for students like Y/n, who didnโ€™t have help, it mustโ€™ve been so difficult.โ€

A few students turned to look at me. I felt their stares like tiny daggers.

Her words werenโ€™t obviously cruelโ€”but the message was clear.

She wasnโ€™t asking a question. She was making a statement.

Belittling me, publicly, with a fake voice of sympathy.

I kept my gaze low, refusing to meet Mr. Jeonโ€™s eyes. My cheeks burned with humiliation, and my stomach twisted painfully.

Mr. Jeon: calmly, without reacting to her dig โ€œGo on, Riya. Iโ€™ll explain it again.โ€

End of Y/nโ€™s POV

---

Authorโ€™s POV

Y/n sat in silence as Mr. Jeon repeated the explanation. On the surface, nothing seemed wrongโ€”but inside, her thoughts were spinning.

Part of her was thankful that Mr. Jeon hadnโ€™t reacted to Riyaโ€™s underhanded comment. Another part wondered if he agreedโ€”if he, too, saw her as someone struggling beyond saving.

She stared at the page in her notebook, but the words blurred. Not from confusionโ€”but from the swirl of frustration, embarrassment, and something deeperโ€”doubt.

Was Riya right?

Was she the only one who noticed Y/nโ€™s struggle?

Was everyone else silently judging her?

---

After class, Y/nโ€™s friends didnโ€™t leave her side.

They wrapped her in quiet comfort, knowing exactly how to support her without needing to say much. They didnโ€™t bring up Riyaโ€™s comment. They didnโ€™t talk about Mr. Jeon. They just made her feel normal again.

In their small conversations, in their laughter, in the way they shared snacks like nothing had happenedโ€”Y/n found peace again.

But deep inside, something had changed.

Riyaโ€™s comment. Mr. Jeonโ€™s coldness. Her own fear of failure.

They had lit a fire.

Y/n knew the upcoming extra classes wouldnโ€™t be easy. But she no longer wanted to just survive them.

She wanted to conquer them.

Not to prove Riya wrong. Not to impress Mr. Jeon. But to prove something to herselfโ€”

That she was stronger than they thought.Smarter than they believed. And braver than even she knew.
