I knocked on his door a couple of times and waited for him to open it.
"Hm, what do I make today?"
"Omui rice? Hamburger? Or Ramyun?"
Just then, I heard the door click open and quickly adjusted my posture.
"What are you doing here?" He popped his head out a bit and asked a little dully.
"I came to meet you, of course." I smiled.
"Couldn't you have informed me?"
"Uh, I did. Didn't you check your phone? Besides, what's the big deal? I'm a regular at your house, aren't I?"
"No, you're not." He said and decided to close the door on my face, however, as fast as my reflexes are, I immediately placed my foot between the door.
"How dare you, Fernandes? Why are you doing this to me? Why are you ignoring me? Why are you not talking to me properly? Do you have someone in your home? Is that why you're not letting me in? Come on! Answer me dammit! I'm already fed up of your attitude these past days towards me and trust me, I'm not liking it one bit!" I yelled and forcefully pushed the door to intrude myself in his house.
I took a deep breath before looking up at him again. He blankly stared at me back but his mouth had opened half an inch--maybe to refute back-- nevertheless, all he did was turn around and walk to his living room.
I pushed back my hair and stomped towards his kitchen.
"I'M MAKING DINNER WEATHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!" I screamed and angrily placed the plastic bags on the table.
He didn't reply and neither did I expect him to reply.
I know I shouldn't have just barged into his house like this but I messaged him so I thought he didn't mind me coming over since most of the time he doesn't really reply to me.
And I also agree that it's my fault for thinking so but I need to show him how much I care about him, how much I love him and how much eager I am to know his feelings towards me.
That is why I have decided to fill his stomach with my love. In other words, I have decided to cook something absolutely delicious for him!
So delicious and spectacular that once he takes a bite of my cuisine, his eyes will be filled with hearts and his heart will be mine forever!
Muahahahahaha--uh, ahem...sorry, that was a little evil, wasn't it?
Anyway, Let's get started before he changes his mind and heads off to sleep.
--
The air was filled with the smoke of red, orange, black and grey. It became thick, almost unbreathable. My lungs were begging for more fresh air as Jellal dragged me out of the house in utter tension.
The sudden water spray damped us both before we could dash out to the front gate.
Dozens of people had gathered around to witness the fire that was now burning down Jellal's precious shelter.
And who was to blame for all this, you ask?
Well...the culprit behind this tragic scenario is me.
"How?" must be the question you all are asking me right now, right?
Actually, it's nothing surprising but I think I forgot to tell you guys one very important but minor point of mine.
I can't cook.
So, you might have pieced up the puzzled already, correct?
I burned his kitchen and he is truly mad at me right now. In fact, I think my relationship status is back to "Strangers" once again.
And his love towards me down to 000000.01 percent.
The fire trucks and ambulances arrived soon after and began drowning the fire with harsh water. Though, it was an exceptional scene to watch since things like these only happen in movies--well, in real life as well but that aside, Jellal has kept a stoic face until now. I mean, what is he thinking at the moment? Will he tell me to go away and never to come back? If he says that...what do I do then?
"Scarlet, you all right?" Jellal suddenly asked without shifting his gaze off of his poor burned house.
"Y-yes..." I replied. How could this be? Why isn't there anger or despise in his tone for me? Why is he acting so gentle?
He then grabbed my hand and started to gently rub it.
"You sure? Because you were near the fire when it started..." His expression...it was somehow worrisome. There was a slight tension in his eyes, not because his house was burning down to nothing but because he was scared of what would have happened to me.
"I'm sorry...Jellal." I said and I knew I was crying absentmindedly but it was unintentional.
"It's okay, it happens." He pulled me into a hug and placed his head on top of mine. One of the nurses asked who was injured and Jellal raised his hand.
Quickly she covered us both with the blankets, handed us a bottle of water and told us to wait inside the ambulance.
"Your wrist, it's burnt." He said and I quickly glanced down at it.
There was a deep, bloody mark that stung me like a bee as soon as my mind began to function well. "You didn't have to say it..." I winced and held it tightly. "I must have burned myself while protecting my beautiful face," I said to calm the nervousness between us and he chuckled.
"Can you promise me one thing, Scarlet?" He asked, directly gazing into my eyes.
"What?"
"Please never cook again." And his face turned serious. Completely serious. Serious as in literally serious. Deadly serious.
"Y-yes...Jellal-Kun."
He sighed and not long after did the ambulance take off the patch my wounded wrist.
--
"Be sure to apply the ointment often and just in case if you ever feel pain, take these meds." The lovely nurse said and left after handing me a paper with written medications to take.
Fortunately, Jellal was unharmed but his blood pressure was low so the doctor just suggested him to drink some juice before finding himself a new home to live in.
Basically, all his belongings are now just mere ash and cinders and I feel completely guilty for it. My heart aches to know that Jellal doesn't have a home to live now and that there's nothing I could do for him now. Plus, he lives alone so there's no one he could call to tell his hardship right now and that is all my fault! Let me just die!
Okay, Erza...calm down...think of a plan to protect Jellal. THINK!
"Oi, why are you standing there like a statue?" Jellal smacked my head with his hand and handed me a bottle of orange juice. "Let's go, I will drop you home."
"You don't have to--"
"Your parents will be worried for you, won't they?"
"They won't! And I won't leave until we find you a new home to stay in Jellal!"
"Why are you shouting? We are still at the hospital." He said softly.
"Sorry...but where are you going to live now?" I asked with a small pout.
"For today or the next few days, maybe in a cheap hotel."
"But..."
"I'm a man, I can live by myself. All my life I've been living by myself, so why can't I now? I can take care of myself so you don't need to worry about me, all right? Just go home and leave me alone for today. You have gone through a lot lately." He sighed and so did I.
"So have you."
"Forget about me, let's go." He grabbed my hand again, the same way he did in front of his house and dragged me out of the hospital.
Jellal hollered a taxi but then remembered that he had forgotten his wallet at home and I had forgotten my purse at his home, which means, our only means of transportation tonight was by walking.
We were quite the whole time. Strangely, it didn't feel strange because we wanted to be quite. We wanted the words to hide itselves in our cheeks. All we wanted was silence.
--
"Goodnight." He said and turned around to leave but I couldn't just leave him alone like this, can I? I know I have already destroyed his house and It's totally unforgivable but I can't just let him roam around the city to find a room. He doesn't even have any money to pay them!
"Jellal!" I ran towards him and attached myself to his back. Tightly clenching my palms so that he can't break through, I hugged me even tighter, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry for everything! For destroying your house, for ruining your day, for everything, that's why please let me make it up to you."
"Scarlet, don't make me repeat myself." He said.
"No, please! I can't just leave you like this! I have to do something for you until we find you a new home just like this one!"
"Erza--"
"Fernandes, listen to me!" I screamed and at once he had stopped talking, "Stay with me."
"Huh?"
My grip around him tightened, "Stay with me until then...My house is your house now, just don't take revenge and burn it as well..." I chuckled but my chuckle soon faded once Jellal pulled off my hands and turned around towards me.
"I can't. Your parents won't accept--"
"My parents have gone to Hawaii for a week." I grinned dumbly.
"I can't--"
"Of course you can!" This time, I grabbed his hand and dragged him inside my house. "We have a guest room so you can sleep there, It's really clean the way you like it since we don't use it much and you will love my house because it's pretty similar to yours but a little cuter."
"Scarlet, stop." He forced himself to stop before we could ascend the stairs and twirled me around, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Eh? I'm helping you, that's all."
"Is that the only reason?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Of course--oh...so that's why you refuse to stay here? Because you think I'm doing this just to get close to you?"
He looked elsewhere.
"I know I'm behind you like a dog 24/7 but believe me Jellal, all I want to do right now is give you a place to stay. I promise I have no other motive in mind. Can't you trust me this once?" I frowned and he sighed.
"Fine, show me my room." He softly said and let go of my hand.
I cracked a smile and headed upstairs, he followed suit.
I showed him his room and not that I want to brag or anything but his room was right next to mine. I know I said it was a guest room but in truth, it's my brother's room who already got married and left. The guest room is pretty much a dumpster for his old clothes and stuff so there was no other choice but to give him this room.
"I didn't think guest rooms were supposed to be on the second floor." He eyed me suspiciously.
I chocked on my saliva, however, I cleared my throat and decided to answer him properly, "Well, that's how my house is, haha."
Sure enough, not that he could care less.
I gave him a pair of my dad's pajamas and it did fit him perfectly. I really think cooking again might not be good so we ordered something from the outside and ate our dinner together. Like a real coup--no, I'm only giving him shelter...no other motives...
After eating he directly went to his room, excusing himself that he was tired and needed some sleep and locked himself inside after saying a soft and gently, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." I went to my room and tiredly crashed on my bed.
Before I could think of any thoughts about today, I had already fallen into a deep, calm slumber.
