Nothing left here

21:19, 31 August 2021

The three reach the house, Drew directing the girl towards the shower while Forrest got her some clothes. Forrest took out a pair of denim shorts, under wear, socks, and a nice cropped T-shirt. She also got a big towel and a pair of her Nike slides, leaving them at the bathroom door.

The couple unpacked all the food into the presses and fridge. Forrest then took a knife from the press and taking fruit from the fridge cutting them all up and separating them into three bowls. She pours three glasses of icy cold water and places them all on the living room table. Drew takes a seat on the couch and grabs the remote. He presses the on button and the tv turns on. A different language pops up and his eyes widen. "Forrest, the tv is in another language." He calls out to her and she laughs at him. Neema opens the bathroom door, she hides behind it as she slides her hand out and grabs the clothes and towel.

"Guess no tv for us then." Forrest sighs taking a seat beside the comfortable boy. She takes her bowl and Drew's bowl off the table and places them on both their laps. He wraps his arm around her neck and pulls her in kissing the back of her head. "Thank you." He says into the back of her head. The two start to each through their bowls of fruit when the bathroom door opens. Out walks Neema in Forrests clothes. She walks into the living room shyly. "Here!" Forrest pats the spot beside her. Neema sits down and Forrest hands her the bowl of fruit and glass of water she had prepared for her. The girl thanks Forrest repeatedly. "Any chance you know how to work this tv?" Forrest asks waving the remote and the girl nods. She turns it on and clicks a few buttons, suddenly the words on screen turns to English. "Yessss!" Drew cheers. "What language was that?" Forrest asks"Swahili, everyone here speaks either Swahili or English, some speak both, like me!" She smiles"Impressive." The couple nods."So tell me about what happened." Forrest says to the girl turning towards her so they are face to face. The girls face become evidently saddened. "Well my whole life I had always been pushed aside, my father isn't my real father, my mother and him met when she was 16, after she got pregnant on me with some random man. Then they had my brother three years later. All three of them hate me and pretend I don't exist, well they act as I exist when it suits them. I am like the cleaner, chef, I am made do everything. My father got into dept with drug money and he owed his friend a lot of money. They can to an arrangement that his time could be extended if I slept with the man. I didn't want to, I screamed and screamed but he just kept hitting me and-and" the girl spills as her cry's turn hysterical. The girl try's to catch her breath but can't. Drew hops up from his seat and grabs her empty glass to fill it with more money. Forrest eyes started to pour during the story and she was now calming the girl down.

Forrest patted the girls back as she cried into her shoulder. Drew scurried back with the glass of cold water and handed it to the girl. She took sips of it and began again. "Then I kept starting to get sick and I was late... my 'father' brought me to the doctor and they said I was pregnant. That was yesterday. They burned every single one of my belongings before my eyes and threw me out onto the streets!" She cry's and Forrest hugs her as she cry's too. Drew looked at the broken girl that was wrapped up in the love of his life's arms. "Well we are here for a month, stay with us." Forrest asks and the girl starts shaking her head. "I-I-I can't!" She says crying."Yeah you can, there's a spare bed, I have clothes, money, food, you'll be fine." Forrest says smiling and the girl starts to sob again. "Thank you!" She shakes out crying.

Drew thought to himself how he was so lucky to be sat here with the most caring and kind girl in the word, and more so how she was his and only his. He was more than happy to welcome the new girl into their house and let her stay, but he knew deep down that's not as far as it was going. Forrest would want to help the girl more than that.

Days past and the three helped around the town in more ways than possible. They were now starting to help the building team with the school. Drew and four other men were on the job of collecting the brick with wheel Barrows and bringing them. Then Forrest, Neema, two other girls and four other boys started to mix cement, place the bricks and so on.

Three weeks had past and Neema was living great with the couple. Forrest and Drew were in the middle of giving food out to some homeless. Forrrets had given Neema 600,000 Tanzanian shilling (about  €220) to go to the shop and buy more food to give away. Neema was walking down the road with two bags in each hand, minding her own business when suddenly a group of 4 boys turned the corner in front of her. Neema immediately recognized them, her brother and his friends. The four look at the girl confused as to how she was dressed so nice and had so much food in her hands. The girl ran down through the alley beside her, the four boys running on her tail. The boys eventually caught her and her brother pinned her up against the wall. "Stealing now are you?!" He shouts at her. She drops the bag and shakes her head. The boy closes his first, pulls back and blows it off the 19 year olds jaw. The girl screamed in pain and dropped to the floor. The group of four then starting to kick and beat the shit into her.

The group of boys robbed all the girls bags and left her unconscious on the floor of a racket alley. The day soon turns to night as the sky starts darkening. Forrest and Drew had been worrying the last half hour when the girl started taking too long. As the sun started to set and the food ran out they decided to take off to find Neema. The two walking in the direction of the shop. Forrest started to panic when they arrived at the shop and still Haden's met the girl. The shop keeper now stood outside his shop locking the door. "Sorry, sorry, do you speak English?!" Forrest panics asking the shop keeper. He nods and shows is lingers nearly pinching signaling he knew a little. "Was a girl in here." She says slowly hoping he understood."Lots of girls." He says laughing telling Forrest she needed to be more specific. "Buying a lot of food, tall, thin, really pretty, wearing the same shorts as these, short too." She says making many gestures as if she is playing charades. "Neema?" He says asking and the girls nods."Yes! Neema!" She shouts and he nods."Yeah about, two hour." She says holding up two fingers. Forrest and Drew's hearts both drop. "Did you see where she went?" Drew asks and he shakes his head sadly. Forrest looks up to Drew and starts to breathe heavily. The shop keeper looks confused. "Neema is missing." Drew breaks down for the man. The mans eyes widen and he also starts to panic. The man seemed to know Neema. Drew and Forrest took off down the street as the shopkeeper took off up the other way, all looking for the young woman.

Forrest checked her phone and it was now 11:27, it was 8:06 when they started looking for her, still no sign. The couple had checked back at the school, back at their apartment and all around, they couldn't find her. As they made their way back to the shop to see did the other man have any luck, they came across a dark alley that they hadn't acknowledged before. Forrest took off running up the alley as Drew calls her name telling her to slow down and be careful as he runs behind her.

Drew crashes into the girls back as she suddenly stops in her track, the girl lets out an ear piercing scream. Drew looks around her and sees the horrific sign in front of them. Both dart over to the unconscious girl. "Help!! Help!!" She screams. After both scanning the girl up and down they notice what bad state she was in. Her cheek bone discolored from a dark bruise. Blood running from her nose. The arms cut and bruised badly as was the rest of her body. The girls top completely ripped and showing her bra from under neath. Both blondes seen the horrible scene above her waist. A rib piercing through her skin. Forrest starts to gag as she cry's. The worst party though, her pants. The front covered in blood, it looked as though the girl had her period, but the two both knew she was pregnant. That's when the two realized what happened, the unborn child is dead. Forrest screams for help again. Drew grabs the Neema, his arm behind her neck, the other behind her knees, as she lays limp in his arms. Suddenly the shop keeper from before appears at the top of the alley darting towards them. Drew Carey's the girl quickly out onto the open street. The shop keeper directing them towards the doctors. Tears run down Forrest face as she runs ahead. She gets at the door and bangs on it rapidly. Quick steps are heard and an older man appears at the door, just as Drew shows up with the girl in his arms, the shop keeper slowly behind.

The doctor brings them all in and now had the girl on an operating table. Him and a woman work on the beaten girl as Forrest Drew's into Drew's shoulder. The doctors suggest for the three to go home, the shop keeper does but Forrest refuses. Meaning that Drew wasn't leaving either. The two make themselves comfortable on the awkward chair. Drew strokes the girls hair as she leans into him. "She'll be alright." He says kissing her forehead. Forrest nods and then pops a question she had been wanting to for the last two weeks. "Drew?" "Yeah?""Can Neema come back to LA with us?" Forrest says with puppy dog asking hopefully. "Oh Forrest, how could we do that?" "She can stay with me and Maddie, Maddie won't mind, should I ring Maddie?!" She spills quickly."No, no, don't ring Maddie she'll be asleep.""We could get her a job help her get some sort of a life, there is nothing left for her here." Forrest proceeds."We'll see." He says giving a light smile to the living girl. Forrest smiles brightly knowing 'we'll see.' Means 'yes'.
