Chapter 11
11:28, 2 July 2018Bakugo wakes to the sound of Midoriya vomiting and he runs to the bathroom, finding Deku with his head almost in the toilet.
“Are you okay?” He asks as he rubs Midoriya’s back.
“No.” He answers shortly and heaves again.
“Maybe we should get you to the doctor. Shouldn’t this have stopped by now? You’re already five months pregnant and yet your still vomiting like it’s your first month.” He asks and Deku just heaves again.
“That’s it. I am not going to work. We’re getting you to the doctor...today.” He says and heads for his phone. Looking at the time, he realises it’s still too early to call the doctor and gets irritated immediately, but the sound of Midoriya vomiting and now crying in one makes him more worried than irritated.
He heads to the kitchen and starts making Midoriya black tea. ‘This usually settles his stomach, but then again nothing has been working for a while now.’ He thinks as he finishes the tea and heads upstairs finding Midoriya to weak to stand.
“Fuck the doctor. We’re taking you straight to the hospital.” He growls picking Midoriya up and heading to the bedroom. He grabs clothes from the closet, dresses himself and helps Midoriya dress.
On their way to the hospital, he calls his boss and explains the situation. “Okay, so I got the next week off, let’s get you checked out.” He says as they stop at the hospital. He walks to Midoriya’s side and opens the door.
“Come on Deku. You’re really starting to fucking make me worry now.” He grumbles as he takes him out of the car and head inside.
“It’s our lucky day, looks like you’re doctor is working the ER, so let’s go.” He says entering the emergency room and finding Midoriya’s doctor. As he looks at the very pale and very thin Midoriya, he motions for Bakugo to lay him on the bed.
“Does he still have morning sickness?” The doctor asks shocked after Bakugo explains everything and he nods. “It’s more like whole day sickness now. He can’t keep anything down, he barely sleeps, he refuses to eat and honestly it’s starting to get on my last fucking nerve now.” Bakugo says angrily clutching his fists.
When the doctor is done with his tests, he walks over to a worried Bakugo and a very quiet Midoriya.
“Due to you not eating, you have weakened quite a bit. You’re malnourished, meaning the baby is malnourished. I’m going to book you into the hospital for time being and run an IV, we need to get fluids and vitamins into your system. I’m also giving you medication for the nausea.” He says and Bakugo looks at a worried Midoriya.
“Is the baby okay?” He asks visibly shaken as he looks from Bakugo to the doctor and the doctor nods. “He’s a bit behind normal growth rate, but other than that his heart is beating fine. I’m more worried about you.” The doctor says as he looks from Midoriya to Bakugo.
“Mr. Katsuki can I talk to you for a minute.” He says seriously and Midoriya looks scared.
“It’s okay. I’m just stepping outside. Try to get some sleep for now please.” He says softly as he kisses Midoriya on the head, squeezing his hand.
Following the doctor outside, the doctor turns and looks at Bakugo, worries written all over his face.
“Spit it out Doc. What’s really going on?” Bakugo asks irritated and stares at the doctor.
“I’m really sorry, but his body is just too weak to support the baby. He won’t be able to carry the baby full term.” The doctor says and Bakugo feels as though his world has been ripped from under him.
“What do we do then?” He asks worried and the doctor puts a hand on his shoulder.
“He’s now 5 months pregnant. We can do an emergency C-Section and hope that the baby survives, or we can keep him here for the next two months and do the c-section again, if his body will last until then. The choice is ultimately up to you both. Speak with him and tell me what you decide.” The doctor says and squeezes Bakugo’s shoulder.
Walking back into the room, visibly shaken, he looks at a sleeping Midoriya. ‘Whatever they gave him is clearly working. I can’t remember when the last time he looked so peaceful was.’ He thinks to himself as he sits next to the bed, taking Midoriya’s hand in his own.
“What a shitty person I am? This is all because of me and what I did to you. This is karma coming back to show me that someone like me doesn’t deserve happiness.” He says aloud as he lays his head against Midoriya’s cold hand.
“That’s not true and you know it.” He hears Midoriya’s voice and looks at him with tears in his eyes.
“It will be okay. Whatever it is, we can overcome it together.” Midoriya says and Bakugo shakes his head. Diving in and explaining to Midoriya what the doctor had said.
“Then we wait. If I have to live in this place for two months, then I do it. It’s what’s best for the baby.” Midoriya says squeezing Bakugo’s hand.
“I don’t know Deku. What if you’re body can’t handle it. I know I treated you like shit, but I honestly don’t want to lose you.” Bakugo says and Midoriya smiles brightly.
“I’ll be fine and so will our baby. Have a little faith.” He says and Bakugo nods.
“I’ll go home and go get you some clothes. I’ll talk to the doctor as well.” Bakugo says as he stands, but Midoriya holds his hand tighter.
“Can you call Shoto please? He needs to know what’s going on as well. You can’t stay away from work for two months and he won’t mind being with me.” Midoriya says yawning.
“I’ll call him. Now get some sleep.” He says kissing him softly on the lips and heading out the door.
After he speaks to the doctor, he grabs his phone and texts Shoto quickly.
-Izuku in hospital. Meet you at my house in 15minutes.-
He hits send and heads home. His heart feels heavy and he has the worst stomach ache ever. ‘It’s just stress. No need to freak out.’ He thinks. Sitting at the kitchen table, with Midoriya’s bag all packed, he waits for Shoto. He’s already 20minutes late and he’s getting annoyed. Just as he stands to leave there is an urgent knock on the door. He opens and sees a worried Shoto standing there.
“You’re late you fucking asshole. I need to get back to the hospital. Come on, I’ll explain on the way.” He snaps as he grabs Midoriya’s bag and heads to his car, Shoto following behind like a good dog.
“What’s going on Kacchan?” Shoto asks as they make their way to the hospital.
Explaining everything, he hears Shoto heartbeat increase. “What did he decide?” He asks worriedly and Bakugo cocks his head to the side as if to say you’re still asking and Shoto nods.
“Of course he decided to hold out for two more months.” He says exhausted and Bakugo laughs.
“It is actually a He, not an it.” He says smiling and then bursts out laughing. “Well fuck me. I just remembered that now. I’ve been so worried, I didn’t even realize. We were supposed to go for the ultrasound in two weeks to find out whether it’s a boy or girl and now we now.” He says still laughing, but it’s not really a joyous laugh, it’s littered with sadness.
“Why don’t you just do the c-section and get it over with?” Shoto asks visibly irritated.
“You know how that idiot thinks. He never puts himself before anyone and he’ll definitely not pick his own life above that of his child.” He says annoyed and Shoto nods. “I hate to say it, but you’re right.” He answers depressed.
Entering the hospital, they are told that Midoriya has been moved to a private room and they can go in to see him, even though he might be asleep. Entering the room slowly and quietly, they see him sleeping. An IV has been hooked into his arm and he looks peaceful.
“At least he is asleep.” Bakugo says to Shoto and Shoto looks at him shocked.
“I know I haven’t been around for about what, two weeks, but he has taken a step backward. Those bags under his eyes are clearer than ever and he’s even more pale than usual. Haven’t you been feeding him properly?” He asks accusingly and Bakugo hits him on the head.
“Everything he ate, just came out again. He’s been puking none stop for two weeks and when I say nonstop, I mean nonstop. He even took his pillow and blanket to the toilet and he’s been sleeping there, when he could, sometimes with his head on the toilet. This morning I couldn’t take it anymore and decided to bring him here. Maybe...maybe if I did sooner, it wouldn’t have turned out this way.” Bakugo says, but the sadness in his voice is clearly audible.
“He’ll be okay Kacchan. He’s more stubborn than normal people and he won’t let this win. He didn’t even crack when you abused him for how long.” He says looking at Bakugo accusingly.
“Yes I know. I was the worse fucking person on earth and deserve to die for everything I did. I get the picture fucker.” Bakugo says as they sit on the chairs across from each other.
“Are you two fighting again?” They hear a soft voice, but know immediately who it is.
“I’m sorry Deku. We thought you were asleep.” Bakugo says as he walks over taking Midoriya’s hand and kissing his palm.
“I know exactly when you’re fighting, even when I’m asleep. Call it a sixth sense if you will.” Midoriya counters smiling weakly.
“Hey Izuku, sorry I haven’t been around the last week, but honestly. You look like fucking shit dude.” Shoto says attempting a smile, but failing.
“You are both idiots. Stop worrying about me, we’ll be fine.” Midoriya says breathing heavily.
“Try to get some more sleep. You haven’t been sleeping well and you need it. Are you feeling a little better?” Bakugo asks worried and Midoriya nods. “Better than this morning at least.” He answers.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Midoriya has been in the hospital for two months now and he’s only getting weaker. After a month everybody thought that he’ll be okay, he was improving quite a bit, but now, it’s as though he has taken a turn for the worst.
“You won’t survive this you fucking idiot. We’re doing that c-section and that’s fucking final.” Bakugo yells at Midoriya and Midoriya sinks back at Bakugo’s anger.
“Two months Kacchan. I just need to keep going for two months.” He says pleadingly and Bakugo shakes his head.
“Don’t you get it, they can’t keep you on IV’s anymore. It’s not working like it should. You’re body is starting to reject any and all forms of nourishment. I’m going to the doctor and you can be pissed if you want, but I am NOT losing you and that’s final.” Bakugo growls heading out the door.
“You may not like it, but you know he’s right.” Shoto says looking up from his coffee.
“Just be a good boy and do as he says. Do you really want to cause him anymore pain? It’s not been easy for him. He goes to work, comes here, eats here and he’s basically living here and you’re getting worse. Just do as he says please.” Shoto begs and Midoriya nods.
“I really believed I could do it, but I know he’s right. I’m just scared for the baby.” Midoriya says as tears start to well in his eyes.
“This is the best thing you can do for yourself and the baby.” Shoto says and smiles faintly.
Just then the door bursts open and a visibly pissed of Bakugo enters.
“The doctor is on his way. He’ll probably be able to perform the c-section today, so no more arguing.” Bakugo glares at Midoriya and Midoriya lays his ears flat and nods slowly.
