Mommy Dearest

09:59, 21 July 2015

Castiel and I went to Bobby's basement to see Dean, Bobby and Sam preparing to go after Eve.

Dean turned to face us. "Guys, get out of my ass."

"I was never in your..." Castiel trailed off.

I gave Castiel a look, knowing he didn't mean it literally, looking at Bobby, Dean and Sam. "Have you made any progress in locating Eve?"

"Well, we were gonna ask you about that," Bobby told us.

"No, I've looked, but she's hidden from me," I told them. "She's hidden from all Angels."

"Awesome," Dean told us sarcastically.

"You know, what we really need is an inside man," Sam told us.

"What do you mean?" Bobby asked.

"Something with claws and sympathy," Sam answered.

"Like a friendly monster?" Dean asked. Sam shrugged. "Those are in short supply these days, don't you think?"

"Sure, but we've met one or two, right?" Sam asked.

"Maybe," Dean answered.

Sam shrugged. "So, maybe we can find one."

*

Bobby was pacing with a book.

Sam was sitting a the table.

Dean was leaning against the wall.

Castiel was waiting.

I appeared with Lenore the Vampire.

"Lenore," Sam told her. Lenore tried to run away. "Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hey, hey. Lenore, stop." Lenore stopped. We walked closer. "Look, we're happy you're here."

"Been a long time," Dean told her. "You remember us?"

"I remember," Lenore answered. "Your hunter friend almost killed me."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, uh, he turned into a Vampire, and I chopped his head off," Sam told her.

"Yeah," Dean agreed. "With razor wire. Wicked."

"Well, that's something," Lenore told us. "What's going on? Why am I here?"

Dean pointed to Castiel. "Well, um, that's Cas." He pointed at Bobby. "That's Bobby." He pointed at me. "That's Ava. They're our friends. And we need to talk to you. About Eve."

"Eve?" Lenore repeated. "I have nothing to say about Eve."

"You sure about that?" Dean asked.

'"I'm trying to stay away from her, believe me," Lenore told us.

"Where's your nest?" Sam asked.

"Gone," Lenore answered. "They couldn't fight it anymore. It's her voice, in our heads. What it does to us. So they left. Started killing again."

"But not you," Sam told her.

"Don't look so impressed," Lenore told us. "I was hiding in a basement. Not exactly Club Med. You don't know how hard it is... not to give in. Everyone gives in."

"All right, so this psychic two-way you've got going, does that mean you know where Mom's camped out?" Dean asked.

"You've got to be kidding me," Lenore told us. "You want me to tell you where she is? You do know she could be listening to us right now. I might as well be a video camera. What are you thinking?"

"So, we don't have the element of surprise," Bobby told us."We're still going in."

"You're crazy," Lenore told us. "I can't help you."

"'Can't' or 'won't'?" Sam asked. "Look, it's clear as day. You still give a crap. You don't wanna kill. And don't want this whole planet dead."

"You actually believe you can stop her?" Lenore asked.

"Just tell us where she is," I told her.

"Grants Pass, Oregon," Lenore told us. "And now she knows you're coming."

"Well, let's go see," Dad told us.

"Hold on," Lenore told us. "I didn't tell you this out of the goodness out of my heart. I need something."

"What?" Sam asked.

"Kill me," Lenore told us.

"Lenore," Sam told her.

"Look, we'll lock you down till this whole thing's over, okay?" Dean asked. "Witness protection. You'll be safe."

"You don't get it," Lenore told us. "It's not about that. I'm dangerous. I hear her voice all the time."

"You're not like the rest of them," Sam told her.

"I'm exactly like them," Lenore told him. "I fed. I couldn't help it. The girl couldn't have been more than 16, Sam. I'll do it again. I can't stop, not anymore. You have to. Please."

"Lenore," Sam told her.

Castiel appeared behind Lenore, touching her head, smiting her, killing her with a flash of bright white light, letting her fall to the floor. "We needed to move this along."

*

Castiel and I teleported Sam, Dean and Bobby to Grants Pass, Oregon. Sam, Dean and Bobby each had a bag of weapons over their shoulders.

We looked around to see the normal-looking town.

"Well, I was expecting more 'Zombieland', less 'Pleasantville'," Dean told us.

"Just because it looks quiet, don't mean it is, especially if she's got a clue we're coming," Bobby told us.

"Yeah, well, if she is here, I'm glad we've got Smities McSmitertons on our squad," Dean told us. "All right, where do we start?"

"I'm gonna need a computer," Bobby told us.

We walked off.

*

Sam, Dean, Castiel and I sat at a booth in Ervin's Diner.

Sam and Dean were eating.

Bobby drug a chair closer, sitting at the head of the table, using an iPad. "All right. I finally got the police database, no thanks to this." He gestured to the iPad. "I asked for a computer."

"It is a computer," Sam told him.

"No, a computer has buttons," Bobby told us.

A waitress walked closer. "Can I get you anything else?"

"No, we're good thanks," Dean answered.

The waitress walked away, leaving.

"Anything?" I asked.

"Oh, nickel and dime stuff, nothing weird," Bobby explained. "Basically dead end. You think Vampira was lying?"

"I'll search the town," Castiel told us. "Give me a moment."

Nothing happened.

"Cas, we can still see you," I told him.

"Yeah, I'm still here," Castiel told us.

"Okay, well, you don't have to wait on us," Dean told him. "You..."

Castiel cleared his throat, straining to leave.

"Well, now, it just looks like you're pooping," Dean told him.

"Something's wrong," Castiel told us.

"What, are you stuck?" Dean asked.

I tried to leave, but nothing happened. "I'm blocked. We both are. We're powerless."

"You're joking," Dean told us.

"Something in this town, is, uh, it's affecting us both," Castiel explained. "I assume it's Eve."

"So, wait," Dean told us. "Mom's making you limp?"

"Figuratively, yes," Castiel answered.

"How?" Dean asked.

"I don't know, but she is," Castiel told us.

"Well, that's great, because without your powers, you're basically just babies with wings," Dean told us.

I gave Dean a look.

Castiel looked upset, turning his head to look outside.

Sam looked at Dean. "I think you hurt his feelings."

Bobby found a news story on the iPad. "I got something here, maybe. Had to go federal to go get it. Call went out from the local office to the CDC last night."

"About what?" Sam asked.

"A Dr. Silver called in an illness he couldn't identify," Bobby explained. "Patient's a 25 year old, African-American, name... Ed Bright."

Dad turned the iPad toward us to show us Ed's driver's license.

"Well, that's not much to go on," I told them.

"Well, it's the only lead, so..." Bobby trailed off.

"So, beggars can't be choosers, right?" Dean asked. "I get it. All right, let's finish up."

*

Sam and I were walking along the town alone, looking for something, anything.

"So, with Eve taking my powers, I'm pretty much as useful as my vessel," I told him.

"Eh, don't be too hard on yourself," Sam told me. "You didn't know Eve could do this." He seemed thoughtful. "Who is your vessel?"

"A girl named Alyssa," I answered. "She prayed for help to get away from her abusive father."

"Father?" Sam repeated. "Shouldn't she have been old enough to get out of the house?"

"Not if her father kept her locked in a basement for his own entertainment," I told him. Sam took this in, disgusted and sympathetic. "She was about to kill herself when I found her. Her life was a living hell, Sam."

"And this is any better?" Sam asked.

"She died when I turned human briefly," I explained. "The blast that nearly killed me sent her to Heaven. She's at peace now."

Sam nodded to himself. "All right. That's good."

"What about you?" I asked. "Is the wall in your mind working as it should?"

"Only when I'm not scratching at it," Sam answered.

"Well, then stop scratching at it," I told him.

"I have to, Octavia," Sam told me. "I have to find out what I did when I didn't have a soul. I have to find a way to make it right. I just--I have to. Can you please tell me everything that I did?"

"No," I answered.

"Ava--" Sam started.

I turned to face Sam, making him stop. "I'm not doing this to be mean or so you can't make up for the wrong that you've done. I'm doing this to protect you. If you know too much, the wall will crumple to ash and you will fall with it. I want you to survive, Sam. So don't ask me to do anything that might have the opposite effect."

Sam took a moment to respond, knowing I was right, nodding. "Okay."

"We should go," I told him.

Sam nodded.

*

Sam and I joined Dean, Castiel and Bobby outside of Ed Bright's house.

"Oh," Sam said. "So, we've got a missing doctor and an oozy patient, huh?"

"Yeah," Bobby answered. "Plot thickens."

"Well, let's go see what Ed's roommates have to say," Dean told us.

I looked toward the house. "Does Ed Bright have a brother?"

"No," Bobby answered. "Why?"

"Then that's not his twin," I told them.

We followed my gaze toward the window that allowed us to see someone who looked exactly like Ed.

"So, what?" Sam asked. "Shifter?"

"I don't know what we're looking at," Bobby told us.

"All right," Dean told us. "Sam and I are gonna go in. You three stay here and watch the door. If something comes out, shoot it."

"Yeah," Sam agreed. "Best guess? Silver bullets."

"I'm fairly unpracticed with firearms," Castiel told us.

"You know who whines?" Dean asked. "Babies."

Sam and Dean walked inside.

Dean kicked the door in, leading the way inside, gun ready.

Sam followed, gun ready.

*

Sam and Dean walked outside to tell us that the whole house had been filled with versions of Ed.

"I don't get it," Sam told us. "What, a bunch of regular Joes wake up shifters? What the hell?"

"Shifters usually run in families," Bobby told us."This looks like an infection. Nobody touched nothing?"

"Well, I am bathing in Purell tonight," Dean told us.

"So, he said they met a girl," Sam told them.

"It's got to be Eve," I told them.

"But why would she do this?" Castiel asked.

"Mommy monster, make more," Bobby suggested.

"No, no, no, no," I told them. "Cas has got a good point. I mean, if she's gonna make a Shapeshifter army, why make one that's sick, gooey and dying?"

Bobby shrugged. "Add that to the pile of crap that don't make sense."

"So should we hit the bar?" Sam asked.

We nodded.

*

Bobby, Sam, Castiel, Dean and I walked into the bar.

There were dead bodies everywhere.

"Well, the Sheriff's a moot, but still," Bobby told us. "You'd think he'd notice this many missing folks."

Dean walked up to one of the bodies, using a cloth to lift its lip, revealing a set of Vampire fangs. "We got a vamp over here." He let the lip go, using the cloth to lift the body's arm, seeing a skewer protruding from its wrist. "Nope. Scratch that. We got a Wraith. What the hell? What has teeth and a spike?"

"Never seen that in my life," Bobby told us.

"Oh, great," Dean told us sarcastically. "So Eve's making Hybrids now?"

"Looks like," Bobby answered.

"Yeah, well, the question is, 'Why?'" Dean told us. "I mean, what does she want with the—What do you call these?"

"Well, congrats," Bobby told him. "You discovered it. You get to name it."

Dean thought for a moment. "Jefferson Starships." Bobby, Sam, Castiel and I looked at Dean in confusion. "Because they're horrible, and hard to kill."

"Looks like the whole bar has been turned into these—" Sam started.

'Jefferson Starships," Dean told us.

"Fine," Sam told him. "But why are all the... Starships dead?"

"I can't say, but looks like they all burned up," I told them.

"Burned up, like?" Sam asked.

"Like a high fever," I answered. "Like the flu."

"What the hell's going on here?" Sam asked. "Does every monster in this town have the motaba virus?"

A Sheriff and three officers walked in the door, guns ready.

"Hands where I can see them!" Sheriff told us.

Dean, unnoticed, hid behind the bar.

"Now, this is not what it looks like," Castiel told them.

"Look, we're the Feds," Bobby told them.

"Yeah?" Sheriff asked. "Well, Feds are not allowed to do this. Cuff them. Turn around."

The officers handcuffed Sam, Bobby, Castiel and me, taking us away.

*

The officers led us into the station.

"Listen, if we can make a phone call, we can straighten this all out," Sam told them.

"Straighten out a massacre?" Sheriff asked. "I'd like to see you try."

Sam saw the security footage to see that the officer's eyes were glowing, part-Shapeshifter Hybrids, head-butting the Sheriff behind him. "Jefferson Starships!"

Sam kicked one.

One pushed Castiel against the wall, trying to bite him. Dean swung a machete at his neck, killing him before he could, watching the body fall.

One pushed Bobby against the wall.

Dean used the machete to cut through the cuffs on Castiel, handing another machete to him. Castiel hesitantly took it.

One tried to bite me. Castiel swung the machete at his neck, cutting of his head, watching the body fall.

The one fighting Bobby tried to bite Bobby. Dean swung the machete through his head, killing him, watching the body fall.

The Sheriff had Sam pushed against the wall, trying to bite him. Dean pulled him away by his jacket, pushing him to the floor, raising the machete to kill him.

"Dean, wait!" Sam told him.

Dean stopped mid-swing, looking at the Sheriff.

*

We had Sheriff in the interrogation room, chained in silver.

Bobby held a knife. Castiel stood at the door.

Sam, Dean and I were watching behind the double mirror.

Bobby looked at Sheriff. "Well, I'll say this. You're the healthiest looking specimen I've seen all day."

"I take my vitamins," Sheriff told us.

"So, you wanna tell us what's going on here?" Bobby asked. "Hmm? So you boys are, uh, Eve's cleaning crew, is that it? You, uh, you come around to clean up the bodies? Make sure the word doesn't get out, huh? Is that why you snatched up the doctor?"

Sheriff sighed. "You're so wasting your time. You stupid head of cattle."

Sheriff laughed.

Sam, Dean and I heard something behind us, turning to look out of the room.

"More Starships," Sam told us. Dean walked off to investigate. Sam looked at me. "Stay here."

I nodded, watching Sam follow Dean. I walked into the interrogation room.

*

Sam and Dean had gone to take two little boys that they had found in the cell block home to their uncle in Meritt.

Castiel, Bobby and I stayed here.

Castiel looked out the window.

"They won't take long," Bobby told us.

"You don't know that," Castiel told us. "They may find more wayward orphans along the way."

"Oh, don't get cute," I told him.

"Right," Castiel told us sarcastically. "Pardon me for highlighting their crippling and dangerous empathetic response with 'sarcasm'. It was a bad idea, letting them go."

"Come on," II told him. "You don't let Sam and Dean Winchester do anything. They do what they got to. You know that."

"Anyway, we want Eve?" Bobby asked. "We need coordinates. So we can stand here bellyaching or we can go poke the pig till he squeals. Thoughts?"

Castiel walked off.

*

Bobby stood with the Sheriff.

"You know, she can see you right now," Sheriff told him. "And you're just making her mad."

"Then tell the bitch to come get me," Bobby told him.

I walked in. "I need five minutes alone with him."

"What for?" Bobby asked. "Ava, your batteries are dead."

"Give me five minutes," I told him.

"All right, fine," Bobby told me, walking out, leaving.

It only took five minutes of torturing the Sheriff for me to get the location, walking out of the interrogation room into the main room, toward Castiel and Bobby, wiping blood off my hands. "Eve's at 25 Buckley Street. You can call Sam and Dean."

*

Sam, Dean, Castiel, Bobby and I stood with the Sheriff's decapitated body.

"Rigorous interrogation, huh?" Dean asked.

"Well, we got a location," I told them. "Now we just gotta get close enough to take a shot."

"All right," Dean told us. "Well, let's all take one." He took the shells containing Phoenix as out of his pocket. Sam, Bobby, Castiel and I each took one. "Load them up. Make them count."

*

Out on the street, we walked toward the address, seeing that it was the diner we had been at earlier.

"You gotta be kidding me," Dean told them. "She's been in there the whole time?"

"Why'd she ever let us in?" Sam asked. "Or out?"

"Well, there's one way to find out," Dean told us.

"What, just stroll in?" Bobby asked. "We don't know who's human or who's her."

"Well, there's one way to draw her out," Dean told us. "Me and Sam will go in."

"Dean," Bobby told him.

Dean looked at Castiel, Bobby and me. "Look. If we don't get a shot off, you three better."

"That's the plan?" Bobby asked.

"Yeah," Dean answered. "Pretty much."

Sam handed his bag to me.

Dean still held onto his.

Sam and Dean walked inside the diner, leaving Castiel, Bobby and me alone outside.

Bobby sighed. "Well, at least it ain't complicated."

*

Starships caught us before we could get off a shot, dragging us inside, restraining us.

Eve was in the form of Mary Winchester. "Well, so much for your Plan B." She looked at Castiel and Octavia. "And you, wondering why so flaccid? I'm older than both of you. I know what makes Angels tick. Long as I'm around, consider yourselves unplugged." She looked at Sam and Dean. "Work for me. It's a good deal. Bonus, I won't kill your friends."

"All right, look," Dean told her. "The last few months we've been working for an evil dick. We're not about to sign up for an evil bitch. We don't work with demons. We don't work with monsters. And if that means you gotta kill us, then kill us."

"Or..." Eve trailed off. "I turn you. And you do what I want anyway."

"Beat me with a wire hanger, answer's still no," Dean told her.

Eve appeared behind Dean, grabbing his shoulders, leaning her head closer to Dean.

Sam stood.

Starships grabbed Sam, restraining him.

Eve spoke into Dean's ear. "Don't. Test. Me."

"Bite. Me," Dean told her.

Eve bit Dean on his neck forcefully.

Castiel, Bobby, Sam and I struggled.

"No!" Sam told her.

"Dean!" Castiel told him.

Eve staggered back weakly, coughing, gasping for breath.

Dean stood, holding his neck, turning to face Eve smugly, smirking. "Phoenix ash." He pulled out an empty gold bullet shell, holding it up for Eve to see. "One shell, one ounce of whiskey. Down the hatch. Little musty on the afterburn. Call you later, Mom."

A light shone from inside Eve's chest. She morphed from Mary back to her brunette form, hissing, coughing, gasping for breath. Dark liquid leaked out of her mouth and nose, down from her hairline, all over her face, her nose and mouth bleeding. The skin around her face started to decay and die, turning black. She fell to the floor, dying, the light fading from her chest.

The Starships started attacking us.

With Eve dead, Castiel and I had our powers back.

I raised a hand from my side, to shoulder level. "Shut your eyes!"

Sam, Dean and Bobby closed their eyes, using their arms to cover their faces,

I created a blast of white light throughout the diner, killing all the monsters.

A car alarm started to go off from outside.

The light faded into nothing, the only light being the diner's lights.

Sam, Dean and Bobby lowered their arms to their sides, looking around at all of the dead monsters.

Sam was breathing heavily, looking at me. "Is that what you meant about being a specialist Angel?"

I nodded.

"Well, we got to take you on more monster hunts," Bobby told me.

Sam sighed. "Hey, Cas, um, Dean's bleeding pretty good."

"Yeah, I think she turned me into a Jefferson Starship," Dean told him. "Could you clear that up, too?" Castiel stepped closer to Dean, putting two fingers to his forehead, healing him, lowering his arm to his side. Dean felt along his neck to feel smooth, unharmed skin. "All right. We're good. We got to go. Now."

"Where?" I asked.

Dean looked at Castiel, Bobby and me. "The kid. The little kid. He's one of them."

Castiel gave Dean a look. "Unbelievable."

"Yeah, I know, Cas, you told me," Dean told him. "All right? Let's just go."

Castiel shook his head in disbelief.

Dean put the empty gold bullet shell on the counter.

Castiel and I teleported all of us to the uncle's house in Merritt, standing in the living room.

The uncle was dead on the floor.

"So, we kill the wicked witch, and she still wins," Dean told them. "I mean, they could've turned half the town by now." Castiel opened his mouth to speak. Dean cut him off, pointing at Castiel half-heartedly. "Don't say it."

I walked around, investigating, finding a door, opening it.

Ryan's dead body fell out.

Joe's dead body was also in the closet.

"Found them," I told them.

Sam, Dean, Castiel and Dad walked closer to get a better look.

"Well, who ganked them?" Dean asked.

I knelt to the floor, touching a small powder of sulfur. "Demons."

We exchanged a look.

*

Sam stood. "So, what do you think?"

"I think that Demons don't give a crap about monster tweens unless they're told to," Dean answered.

"So, you think she was telling the truth?" Sam asked.

"The truth about what?" I asked.

"She said that Crowley's still kicking," Dean explained.

"But I burned his bones," Castiel told us. "How can—Was she certain?"

"Sounded pretty sure," Dean answered. "According to her, Crowley's still waterboarding her kids, somewhere."

"I don't understand," Castiel told us.

"Well, he is a crafty son of a bitch," Dean told us.

"I'm an Angel," Castiel told us. "I'll look into it immediately."

Castiel disappeared, leaving.

I stood, nodding. "We'll be in touch."

I disappeared, leaving.

Dean called after us. "Cas! Ava! Let us know what you find out!"

If Crowley was still alive, we had to find out why.

And how.
