58-i love you

22:27, 14 April 2019

"Well, the baby is still growing at an accelerated rate, Mrs Rogers. You are six months along but your baby is bigger than that." The doctor tells me as I wipe the jelly off my stomach. Steve is sitting in a chair nearby, his leg is bouncing. He's nervous.

"Is the baby going to be okay?" Steve asks, trying to calm himself. My hands pull my shirt down as the doctor leans against the wall.

"Yes, but with how fast he is growing-he can be here any moment. So that means you can't exactly be doing things you normally do, Peyton. You need to rest, eat healthy, and just make sure everything is ready for this baby. It also might be a good idea to maybe stay in Manhattan until the birth, just so you're closer to the hospitals." The doctor responds and I think the color drains from my face. I thought I would have more time to prepare-Am I not ready for this kid?-Oh my God, I'm not ready. I can't breathe oh my God I can't breathe-I'm shaking oh my God-

"Relax, Peyton, just breathe." The doctor rushes over, trying to soothe me. I can hear the chair scraping on tile as Steve worriedly stands up. The doctor is rubbing my back. I focus on my breathing.

"Is she okay?" Steve asks, the worried-ness invading his voice. Damn it Steve I'm right here, don't talk about me like I'm not. After that, it's like I'm underwater. I simply nod or shake my head when the doctor asks a question. I'm just there. Eventually, Steve leads me out of the doctor's office and I think he mentions Panera.

I break out of my trance when car door opens and he slides. The scent of Mac and cheese, soup, salad, and I think a barbecue chicken flatbread fills my nose.

"Hey, are you doing okay?" Steve asks, his baby blues full of concern. He's your husband, you can be truthful with him.

"I thought I would have more time to prepare." I tell him honestly. Steve nods and sighs lightly as he buckles his seat belt.

"So did I. Then again, this is our first kid. I don't think we could ever be prepared fully." He confesses, looking at me. Steve gives me a smile and I can't help but smile back at him.

"So what did the baby doctor say?" Rhodey asks as I pregnant waddle in and sit on the couch. I immediately put my feet up after kicking off my shoes. Steve kisses my forehead and walks over to the kitchen to get me water.

"She said that you need to get off my metaphorical dick, Rhodes." I retort with a grin, which makes Rocket laugh extremely loudly. Natasha sits down next to me and I truly envy her in this moment, especially since she probably doesn't feel like a whale right now.

"Actually, she said that he can be born any day now, so Peyton is practically on bed rest." Steve informs them as he brings me my water. I smile at him, mouthing a thank you in his direction. Bruce walks out of the kitchen, stirring his tea, his eyebrows knitted together.

"And the baby will be okay?" Bruce asks and I nod, sipping at my water.

"That's what the doctor said. I'm only six months along but the baby didn't get the memo. That's why I am so freaking huge." I tell them, hand resting on my stomach. Thor smiles at me from his seat.

"If it is getting close to the child's birth, you must start wearing the necklace that I gave you. My mother's spirit will help ease the birth." Thor tells me seriously and I nod. Anything to make this situation easier, I am down for. Whenever the baby was brought up, it eased all of us. It allowed us to distance ourselves from what was going on outside.

-Sitting on the table in their room was drawings Steve has done over the course of their relationship and friendship. One of the first ones that he drew is Peyton drinking a slushie while she relaxed in her mission suit. There was one of her sleeping on the couch, blanket pulled up until it covered most of her face. Another one was of Peyton leaning in the doorway, one of her silk robes around her. There was some rather inappropriate ones too that Peyton relentlessly teased her husband about. Those were hidden under a more recent drawing of Peyton's silhouette, her stomach on full display.

Their room certainly was theirs. Pictures of Steve and Peyton covered the walls. Of course there was also pictures of Steve and Bucky, Steve and Nat, Pey and Nat, Pey and Tony. There was even a framed picture of a sonogram hanging on the wall. So many pictures. Little trinkets that were bothSteve's shield leaned against his nightstand. A knife was in a hidden spot on Peyton's nightstand, just incase. For the most part, their room looked deceiving normal-if it wasn't for the two super powered individuals laying in the California king sized bed. The couple was covered in a grey

Steve was wide awake. His wife was beside him once again, both of them laying in bed-together. Peyton's breathing was even and it calmed Steve, but not enough to let him sleep.

So he just studied her peaceful face.

Her face was a little rounder than it normally was, but she was carrying a super soldier. Peyton was eating for two, her large growing stomach made that very clear. Steve's wife was ridiculously pretty. Peyton was the prettiest person he's event known and she was his wife. She shifted closer to him, her arm holding onto him slightly. Peyton's been so possessive of him ever since they had reconciled. Always holding his hand, holding him close. Natasha said it was probably because she's been scorned before and Peyton knows Steve wouldn't cheat, but she couldn't help it. Also, pregnant women sometimes get very possessive when they're going to give birth. Steve didn't mind it. Not at all.

Steven Grant Rogers would never ever cheat on the angel before him. They were going to be together until death do them part. They were going to stay together until one of them died. This child, Benjamin, was going to have both of his parents. Steve loved his wife too much to even think of being apart from her now-it made his heart ache.

The moonlight coming through the windows made her scars almost shimmer. She has shown him every single one. The long one on her lower back, the one that Ultron gave her. She had another on her front. Only Steve got to see those. His wife didn't like the pitying looks the others give her when they see them. There was a couple of bullet wounds here and there. There was a small scar on her forehead, which Tony had told him (with a huge smile on his face) came from a five year old Peyton trying to ride her princess bike down a hill but not seeing a sizable hole. There was also the few stretch marks that were appearing on her stomach, which Peyton wasn't very happy about. She put a special lotion on every damn day to get rid of them. There was so many little scars all over her body. And Steve had seen them all. How many times has he annoyed her by kissing each one? Too many to count.

Peyton shifted again and Steve now focused on her neck. How many times has he left marks on her skin? The others would tease him endlessly when he did, but Peyton didn't give a damn. She'd wear the marks proudly and wouldn't cover them up, especially when they were on the run. Peyton would just simply smirk and look at him, saying "Darling, we are married. I'm sure you can give me hickies.".

Peyton had dark circles under her eyes. Steve knew she was overworking herself. It was clear to everyone on the team. Peyton would sneak out of bed and go to the lab, trying to work on something. Maybe it was a new idea for Vision. Maybe it was a new suit, maybe it was a new way to contact Tony. She always looked so tired. Peyton tried to brush it off as the baby not letting her sleep with his constant moving, but they knew what was happening.

Steve knew she was exhausted. He was too with what they had went through that day. Because of the serum coursing through his veins, the baby was going to be born early, earlier than he should. God, it worried Steve. He knew that Peyton was so damn scared because of how fast everything was moving. She had a panic attack today for Christ's sake. Steve couldn't blame her though. He was worried too. Was he going to be a good dad? Could he handle it? He already got worried over Peyton, how is it going to be when he is worried over two people? Two people to protect. Two people to save. Steve was sure it was allgoing to seem worth it when he laid his eyes on little Benjamin Stark-Rogers.

Baby Benjamin Stark-Rogers. God, Steve already loved his son. He didn't understand how anyone could not love their children. He couldn't understand how his father was able to beat the crap out of him. Steve hadn't even met his son and he already knew that he would never lay a hand on his son. He also couldn't understand how Clint Barton could just straight up tell Peyton to get of their child. How the hell did Clint not get attached? Steve would never make Peyton make that decision. Ever.

That was another thing. Steve couldn't understand how people could hurt the woman laying beside him. Of course Steve only knew of two-Clint Barton and Matt Murdock. Both of the men had done horrible things to Peyton. Clint put Peyton into a situation that allowed him to cheat on his wife, into a situation that ended up with Peyton losing a baby and Clint hitting her. A situation that ended with Peyton laying everything bare. Matt Murdock was with Peyton longer and Steve thought those two were going to get married. Then they lost a child too, Peyton was depressed, and Matt cheated. Steve didn't understand how they could treat her like that. That woman, the woman beside him, gave so much love-it was impossible not to love her-

"Steve?...Why are you up?" Peyton's sleep filled voice cut off the thoughts racing through his head. Her eyes were partially open and were looking right at him.

"I couldn't sleep." Steve murmurs back, his hand reaching out to smooth her hair. She moves closer to him, well as much as she could with the baby bump and her pregnancy pillow.

"And you're getting on my case about not sleepin'? You hypocrite." Peyton teases, smiling at him. Steve chuckled. Even when she was barely awake, she could still make him laugh.

"I think our situations might be a little different, doll." He says, the smile on his face growing even further. Peyton's eyes opened a bit more, the moonlight illuminating his face for her. Her hand reached up to cup his cheek and Steve leaned into her touch. She was so much more loving, even more than usual. Steve enjoyed every second of it.

"When we have our big wedding, I want a Grace Kelly dress, okay? I want to look like a princess." Peyton tells him in utter seriousness. It was understood between them and everyone else that as soon as they got everyone back, they'd have a big wedding. Little things about the wedding would be brought up as they thought about it. For example, Tony would walk his sister down the aisle. Bucky would be Steve's best man. Baby Benjamin would be their ring bearer. They had to get married in the church, especially since Sarah Rogers would want it that way. Steve only smiles at his wife and nods.

"Of course darling, of course." He tells her, kissing her forehead. Steve held his wife close to him, his nose buried into her hair, "I love you." His heart near hers and her scent filling his nose, Steve couldn't help but fall asleep like that.

They were going to need the sleep because Baby Benjamin Stark-Rogers was surely on his way.
