Part 2: 26-Dancing With the Devil
20:26, 3 August 2018Two Years Later
I straightened out my skirt as I walked past my suit and weapon room. The SHIELD suit was folded up, put away for good. SHIELD was now attached to something toxic, the name now intertwined with HYDRA's. The whole world knew that now because of what Natasha did. They also knew all the dirty little things I did for SHIELD. The world knew about everything. SHIELD fell, but the Avengers didn't. No the Avengers were thriving. It wasn't like I was completely out of a superhero job. Instead of doing missions for SHIELD, they were done for the Avengers.
I held my heels in my hand as I walked, swinging them slightly. My floor was no longer just mine. After the collapse of SHIELD, we took in all of the Avengers and some SHIELD agents. So my floor was shared by Natasha and Steve, which wasn't bad because they were great roommates. This living situation was temporarily as Tony and I were currently building a base for the Avengers. We had high ambitions.
"Where are you going dressed so respectable, Pey?" Natasha asks from her spot on the couch. Steve looks at me as he cooks some eggs, a smile on his face.
"Uh well I had promised to meet Matt for coffee this morning, but he had a client so now I'm just dressed for nothing." I say with a sigh, sitting down at the island in front of Steve. He chuckled.
"Well you look nice, Pey." The Star Spangled Man with a Plan says as he puts some eggs on two plates. He motioned towards me, as if to ask if I wanted some. I shook my head, checking my phone for anything from Matt. The last two years had been a bit rocky, especially when Karen Page came into our lives-well more Matt's life than mine. It certainly doesn't help anyone's relationship when you catch the person you adore with some random female, dressed in his shirt and being awfully close to said adored person. And it didn't help when Matt almost got himself killed one night and didn't call for help. Claire Temple also didn't fully understand boundaries, even though I was incredibly grateful to her. Let's just say it work Matt dressing in a much better suit and both Claire and Karen realizing that I don't take too kindly to people not knowing boundaries. I never have and I never will-also yes I realize that Matthew Micheal Murdock was not innocent in either of those events. I am not bashing these women.
"He isn't texting you?" Natasha questions, looking over my shoulder to look at my phone, taking the plate that Steve hands her. I sigh, pushing her face away from mine. She tries to bite my hand playfully. Steve chuckles and shakes his head.
"He's busy, Natalia. We aren't going to dwell on it. Right, Stevie?" I ask, looking at Steve who was drinking his coffee. Steve looks at Nat over his mug of coffee. Nat makes a face as she sits down.
"Thanks Mom and Dad." She grumbles playfully. I smile, getting up and grabbing a mug, pouring myself some coffee.
"If anything, I'm your annoying older sister and he is our incredibly old father." I tease, which I know makes Steve roll his eyes. Natasha grins at me, picking up my phone and turning it towards me. Matt's face fills the screen. I set down my mug, quickly rushing over and grabbing the phone from her. I answer it, holding it to my ear, sitting down next to Nat.
"Hey, sorry I missed our coffee date. We were very busy this morning." Matt speaks and I bit the inside of my cheek, trying to keep myself from laughing as Steve and Natasha both lean forward, very intrigued. Chismosas.
"It's fine, it's just coffee." I say, a smile on my face, "Everything going good on your end?"
"Yeah I'm good. Sorry you couldn't come over last night." Matt's voice is soft and I quickly get up, walking back over to my bedroom. I don't speak until my bedroom door is shut behind me. Matt had told me when I went over for dinner that he had business to take care of in Hell's Kitchen. I wasn't going to keep him from protecting his city.
"It's alright, darling. You aren't too badly bruised, right?" My voice is just as soft as I sit on the bed, looking out the window wall. The sun was shining on New York City, the light gleaming off of a thousand windows.
"I'm okay. You want to meet me here and we can go back to my place this evening?" I can almost hear the smirk in his voice. I chuckle, smirking as well.
"Can't get too tired tonight, darling. I got business to attend to tomorrow."

The very next day had me walking onto the Quinn Jet, dressed in a dark red suit with the Avengers' 'A' on my arm in a slightly lighter red color. I yawned and sat down, leaning against the side of the jet. Maria Hill shoved a coffee into my hand. I smiled up at her, happily drinking the caffeine drink filled drink.
"God, I love you." I say and Hill chuckles. Natasha quickly walks onto the jet, looking a little worried. She sits down next to me, Hill walking away for a moment, tapping things on her tablet.
"You're going to be okay today, right?" Her voice is soft. I took a big sip of my coffee. Today's mission was the first one that Clint was going to be on and because of that, Natasha, Steve, and Tony were worried about me. We all have been pulling our own weight, except for Clint. It was bullshit that my family got beat the shit out of them almost every week while we take down Hydra bases. Absolute bullshit.
"Natasha, you know I'm not the one you should be worried about." I tell her and she nods, sighing softly. I continue to drink my coffee, crossing one leg over another. While I wanted to kick Clint Barton's ass into the next century, I wasn't going to let it ruin a mission, especially one of this scale. But then again, I haven't seen him since he hit me. I can talk all the shit I want, but that won't matter when he actually is here, on this mission. I can be acting like a bad bitch now, but I can be a little bitch then.
"I know. Just remember the sooner we get back, the sooner you get back to Matt." She says with a smile on her face. I sigh, swirling my coffee in my cup. It swished in the little paper cup.
"He's working on a case tonight so I guess I'll see him tomorrow." I say with a shrug. I didn't spend last night in Matt's bed because of how early we were leaving this morning. Yet, my mission today did not spot me from going to Matt's for dinner. I smiled to myself and took another drink of my coffee. Oh God, that man. He filled me with nothing but good feelings.
"Hey Nat." The smile on my face disappears when I hear his voice. The happy feeling inside of me drifts away. Look at him. You're stronger than this. Look at him. No man has the power to make you feel useless so don't give him the power. I force my head up and I look at him right in the eyes. His eyes drift down to my neck, where I know there is a noticeable hickey. He presses his lips together, his fist clenches. You're stronger than him. I rolled my eyes, moving past him as Steve walked onto the Quinn Jet.
"Rogers, how is the new suit treating you?" I ask as I fix the gauntlet type things on his arms, making sure they're as tight as they should be. I had took it upon myself to design the new suits for everyone-well everyone except for Thor. Steve smiled at me and nodded. I could feel a set of eyes glaring at my back. Still jealous of Steve, eh?
"Fits like a glove. Thank you, Peyton." He says and I smile, about to say something when two big ass arms wrap around me and lift me up.
"Lady Peyton! I did not get to see you last night! Stark said that you were with your lover!" Thor says cheerily and Steve snorts. I laugh, squirming in Thor's arms, holding my coffee out, which Steve grabs. I would not be happy if that coffee was spilled.
"Hey blondie, how've you been?" I ask as soon as he puts me down. I turn to look at him and he grins, looking like a damn golden retriever. His blonde hair was carefully half pulled back.
"I've been well." He tells me, his voice dropping low, "And before my mother passed, I asked for her to help you." I nod, kind of remembering that his mother, Frigga, was the goddess of fertility.
"Thank you, Thor and I am sorry for your loss." I say just as softly, a warm feeling filling me. He opened his hand, a small silver key necklace laying in his palm.
"She told me that this will help when you do eventually give birth." He tells me, putting the necklace in my hands. The necklace was delicate and small Norse runes etched into it. I hug Thor and he hugs me back. I knew I was never going to wear the necklace, but it was a nice thought. I carefully put the necklace into a little pocket, zipping it up. I stand near the two blond giants of the team, all of us waiting for Tony and Bruce.
"Please take more time." Natasha calls out, which makes us all chuckle. Tony rolled his eyes as he and Bruce walked aboard. I sat down in between Thor and Steve, continuing to drink my coffee until it was finished. I could feel Clint's eyes on me, so without even thinking of it, I burned the entire paper cup until nothing was left. I look up at him and his eyes meet mine.
