3rd Person's POV:
After the hot night in the tub, they had ordered supper up as New didn't feel like moving anymore. Tay pampered him to the best of his abilities and they both fell asleep after filling their stomachs.
The two of them had their own hectic schedules after that day, so tonight was the rare time they could meet for dinner. It was supposed to go well- with Tay surprising New with home-cooked, healthy food at his house. It was supposed to be a happy day, but it turned out to be a terrible one.
...
"So, how do you plead?"
Tay jumped. Restrained anger was clear in his voice, causing Tay to feel a knot in his chest tighten. He swallowed nervously, his heart thumping wildly. He was the one angry a moment ago, but that caused him to completely forget what he had done. But now that hin was angry at him, guilt filled him instead. He didn't like it when hin was angry at him. Sure, they fought often, but he was rarely this angry. Beads of sweat began to dot his forehead as he murmured a hesitant reply.
"N-not guilty?" He gulped as he felt the malicious glare directed towards him. It wasn't 100% his fault, he thought. If hin never did that behind my back, I would've never done it in the first place. New raised his eyebrow slightly.
"This is my house." New stated, anger rising in his voice. He stood, arms crossed, glowering at Tay.
"This is my fridge." He continued, gritting his teeth. He clenched his fists under his arms, willing himself not to lash out... yet.
"You are the only other one who comes here." Tay flinched as he heard that statement. He knew what that implied and he knew that he had been found out. He suddenly began to hate himself. He began to hate hin as well. Technically it was also hin's fault and he knew that hin would get mad, but he didn't know that he would get this mad. He was the one who should be angry, but seeing hin like this made him think again. Was it my fault then?
"So tell me then, Te. Who else but you could do this? Who else but you would do this?! Why would even you do this?!" New snarled, his voice livid and loud.
"I- I'm sorry, hin." He whispered timidly. "I won't do it again." He lifted his eyes from the ground and peeked up, apprehensive. He felt hurt. All this.. for her? Hin got so angry because of her?
"You mean that you wanted to do it again?!" New boomed. He was appalled. The nerve of this man!!
"No!! No!! Really!! I just thought-" Tay tried to explain himself but was immediately interrupted by an enraged New.
"YOU THOUGHT WHAT?! YOU THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO FILL MY FRIDGE UP WITH VEGETABLES AND FRUITS?!" He shrieked, raising his hand and swinging the refrigerator open. The poor door rattled opened, revealing rows and rows of healthy food and ingredients.
"O-oh it's the food. I-I just thought that since you were on a diet, you might want to try eating more healthy food so I wanted to cook for you-" Tay spoke up nervously.
"ALL THIS..." he pointed, "..FOR TWO?" Disbelief was written all over his face. It was true. He could cook a feast for ten with that much food.
"You could slowly cook the rest yourself..." Tay retorted. Sure, hin didn't like eating his veggies but was there really a need to get this angry?
"You know what my schedule is like, Te... I don't even cook nowadays because I don't have time." He sighed, distraught.
It was true. They barely had any time to meet each other with how hectic their schedules have been. Tay swallowed the rest of his words, realizing how he didn't think it through properly. Was it a bad idea after all? He thought. He shook his head, denial filling his mind. No, no. It wasn't a bad idea. It was just a good idea that went terribly wrong.
"I don't even know how to cook these, Te." He plucked out a bundle of greens and stared at Tay, exasperated. "Do you?" He asked, pointing them at Tay.
Tay shook his head and gulped. Those had been on sale. He was weak to promotions and offers so when he was shopping, he bought them all up, thinking he could simply call his grandma later and have her teach him how to cook them. Although, he never got to the cooking or calling as he got preoccupied with something else.
"IT WAS ENOUGH THAT YOU ATE ALL MY CHEESECAKE-" He resumed screaming, shoving the veggie back into the fridge and shifting to open the freezer. The empty freezer. Oh, so that was why he's mad. Tay thought, scrunching his face as he braced himself for a good beating.
"It was blueberry cheesecake.. So I thought it was for me.." Tay mumbled softly. His favourite dessert was blueberry cheesecake, so when he opened hin's fridge that night after stuffing it, and saw a slice there, he was elated. He had only planned to eat half while waiting for hin to come home and share the rest with him later. But before he knew it, he had finished it all already.
"-BUT THE BROWNIES TOO?! I know you like brownies Tay, but it's not like you to finish a whole box of them!! You don't even like desserts that much!!" New cried, his anger slowly bubbling down into saddness as his frown turned into a pout. "I was looking forward to eating them-"
"Looking forward to eating brownies baked by which girl, huh? Let me guess, she was white and charming." Tay rolled his eyes, annoyed. His previous fear and guilt vanished as jealousy took over. So it was because of the brownies. I should've known. Rage began to fill him the more he thought about it.
After eating the cheesecake, he had found the brownies in the fridge. He took out the box of brownies and drooled. He simply loved the brownies that his hin baked. They were the perfect texture, hard on the outside, thick and creamy on the inside. But he had had enough sweets for the day, especially after the cheesecake just now so he was about to leave it. Until he saw the note attached to it.
"Thank you for teaching me how to bake."
The writing was pretty and in glitter ink. He felt his jealousy rise as his eyes landed on the small heart that was drawn at the bottom of the card. He crushed the note in his hands. It was obviously some girl's handwriting. He clicked his tongue in anger. What did that mean? No matter how he looked at the brownie, it looked like the one hin always made. It was even packaged in a Bowiee Cafe box. Does that mean he made it with her?!
Unsure, he decided to eat it to confirm. Indeed, it tasted different. It was clearly not hin who made it. Angry, he decided to gobble it all up. But he couldn't just throw it away. He didn't want to waste food. It didn't taste that good but he wasn't going to let hin eat the cake some other woman baked. He knew that the way to hin's heart was through his stomach and he wasn't about to let some random girl stir up his feelings. Hin had been straight before going out with him after all. He was worried that it was just a whim. He was worried that hin would suddenly change his mind if some really pretty girl came along. He was worried that... hin would leave him.
Before he knew it, he had already finished it. He felt a little guilty about it but dismissed it, angry that hin had kept his date with a girl from him. He was a little proud of his small revenge in fact. He knew that hin would be angry for finishing all his brownies without even telling him to boot, but he felt so jealous, betrayed, cheated, dissapointed and... sad. Ever since the day of the Vlive Announcement, they hadn't met for a week already due to their busy schdules. Tomorrow was a rare occassion when they finally had a morning off together as well so Tay decided to sleepover at his hin's house after dinner so that they could be together longer. When did he have the time to meet her?? Rather.. has he been lying about being busy?? No.. it can't be.. I know his schedule.. so how? When? If it was just a casual baking session, he would've told me, wouldn't he? Did that mean he lied to me? The brownies were in a Bowiee Cafe packaging... so did that mean he brought her to Bowiee Cafe?! But that would spread rumours- The more he thought about it, the more depressed he got.
....
"What are you even on about, Te? What girl??" New asked, confused and exasperated, pulling Tay back from his stupor. New had cut off all his relations with his ex-girlfriends cleanly and hadn't met any other girl ever since he got together with Tay. In addition, he was so busy with work now that he barely had time for Tay, much less another woman? Who was Tay even talking about?
"You don't need to act dumb, hin. I know all about the date you had behind my back." Tay snapped. He felt even worst seeing hin try to deny and cover it up.
"What date, Te??" Hin asked, confused. He was baffled. He truly had no idea what Tay was talking about.
"Huh, then explain this." Tay snarled. He got up and picked up the crumpled piece of paper on the floor, throwing it at him. New caught it with both hands in frustration and opened it. Tay gulped nervously, anxiety growing within. He was jealous and angry, but more than that, he was scared. Scared that his fears would come true. Scared that hin would tell him to break up. Scared that hin would say that he had been cheating-
"Te..." Hin sighed, a look of disappointment on his face. Tay tensed up, dread filling his heart as his mind began churning endless worst-case scenarios.
"...have you finally gone crazy?! How can you not recognize Gun's handwriting?!" New growled, offended. He angrily tossed the card back to Tay.
Tay gasped as he took a closer look. He was right- now that he was inspecting it, it did look like Gun's handwriting. His mind whirred and he recalled Gun boasting that he had learnt how to bake brownies and if Tay wanted to try a piece. He rejected the offer then because hin had gave him a box of brownies as well so he couldn't stomach both. He had just assumed that Plapodd taught Gun how to bake as previously, he was the one who taught Gun how to bake cookies. So hin was the one who taught him, not Podd.
"So it was Gun..." He sighed with a smile. Relief washed over Tay and he felt the knot in his chest loosen. He felt so happy it was just a simple misunderstanding. He was overjoyed in fact. That damn Gun. Why was his handwriting so girly. He thought, annoyed.
"...that's all you have to say?" New asked quietly. Tay lifted his head from the note to see a pained look on hin's face. His eyes were getting a little red and his lips were trembling ever so slightly.
"...fuck, I-I'm sorry, hin." Tay hurriedly rushed over and hugged him, but he pulled away coldly.
"...do you not trust me?" He asked, the look in his eyes made Tay feel as if his world was breaking apart.
"No! No- I mean, yes, I do. I do trust you, hin. It's not what you think-" Tay tried to explain, but New cut him off immediately.
"It's not what I think? If you really trusted me, you wouldn't have even humoured the thought of me cheating on you behind your back! I tell you everything, Te. Everything. I have never even cheated on anyone before in my life. I thought you knew me better than anyone, I thought you knew my character better than anyone." He started loud, but his voice gradually became softer. His expression crumpled up and his vision started to blur. He felt like Tay had opened up a crack in their dam. And once the crack was formed, it only got bigger.
"I- I do, hin. I do know.." Tay choked up, he felt as if someone was stabbing his heart again and again. The pain just wouldn't stop. He felt guilt consume him when he saw the hurt in hin's eyes. His heart thumped loudly in his chest as he felt his skin crawl.
"You know? What do you know, Tay? Is this how you see me? Am I really a cheater in your eyes?" He brought his hand up and covered his face, his breathing slowly becoming unstable. It was hard to breathe, hard to think, hard to see. He felt so.. hurt.. and wronged.
Tay opened his mouth, but swallowed his words instead. He knew that whatever he said now would be useless. After all, actions spoke louder than words. It was the truth. The insecure part of him had believed that hin had found someone behind his back. The insecure part of him had felt unsure of hin's feelings for him. The insecure part of him had caused him to accuse his baby, to blame him for something he had never done and hurt him.
"Fuck, Tay, when others called me a player I didn't mind or care because I knew that the people who knew me would know better. They would believe me and not some rumours, not some haters. But you? You, Tawan Vihokratana? My best-friend? My boyfriend? I didn't expect this from you." He pushed Tay away from him and slowly walked towards the door. Tay stood rooted to the ground for a moment, before scrambling to follow him.
"No, hin. Believe me. I- I just-" Tay stuttered. Panic set in as he felt the distance between them grow. Dread took hold of him and fear began to seep into his heart.
"You would think six years of our friendship, and a few months of our relationship, would have built more trust than this." He spat, glaring at Tay. The tears that filled his eyes threatened to fall at any moment. It took all of him to hold them back. He wasn't going to cry. Not now at least. Not in front of Tay. Not yet.
"...Leave, Tawan." Hin said quietly, his voice barely a whisper. His expression hardened and he opened the door, holding it open for Tay.
Tawan..?! He.. he called me Tawan?! Tay felt as if someone had poured a bucket of ice cold water all over him. His heartbeat quickened and goosebumps coated his skin as he felt a chill run down his spine.
"No, hin. I won't leave. Not until we talk this out." He said resolutely. He can't walk out now. He simply couldn't. He knew what it would mean. He knew he had messed up. So he needed to apologize and make amends. Now. He needed to stay and properly resolve this situation, to calm and comfort hin. He couldn't leave hin alone right now. Especially not when he looked like this. Leaving meant running away from the problem or... he shook his head, not wanting to even think of those words.
"Please don't do this." His small voice cracked and tear slid down his cheek. Seeing his tears made Tay feel as if he had been slapped a thousand- no, a million times. He had made his baby cry.
"Hin, I'm sorry-" Tay croaked. It felt as if there was something lodged in his throat. He didn't know why but he felt paralysed. He had seen hin cry before, but never because of... him. No, he had made hin cry before during sex but these tears were different. These tears were from the heart. He had never ever been the one to hurt his hin this way before and he had secretly vowed to make it that way forever. However, he broke that vow today. Just because of his stupid insecurities and inferiority complex-
"...if you won't leave. Then I will." His quiet whisper felt like thunder to Tay's ears. Before he could stop him, New had already left. He was just a few seconds late, but when he reached out, his hands grabbed thin air.
*SLAM*
The door slammed shut in his face, leaving a shocked Tay Tawan. He felt as if his world had come crashing down. He had fucked up. He had fucked up this time. He had fucked up big time.
