"can you turn the light on? i dropped my phone." chris asks matt.

matt turns the ceiling light on in the car when he's stopped at a red light. matt turns around in his seat to help chris look because the light just turned red, so he'll be there for a while.

matt grabs chris' phone from under the seat and hands it to him when nate starts smiling at matt.

"you dirty dog." nathan laughs.

"what? what happened?" matt asks, confused.

"is that lipgloss on you?" nate smiles, wiping matt's mouth with his sleeve.

matt huffs and sits back in his seat, shaking his head.

"no, it is not." matt laughs, driving when the light turns green.

"then why are your lips sparkly pink?" nathan asks.

"i have no idea what you're talking about." matt shakes his head and turns up the music.

"do y'all wanna go to topgolf tomorrow?" nick asks, scrolling through his phone.

"yes, i've never been." kaia answers.

"alright, i'm reserving an area online now." nick replies.

they arrive home, and all go inside carrying their drinks and snacks.

everyone piles onto the couches and matt puts on the princess bride; kaia's favourite movie of all time.

"i love this movie so much, i can recite every single line by memory." she enthuses, eating one of her sour strips.

"i just don't get it. why doesn't wesley just tell buttercup it's him from the second he saves her?" matt asks, looking down at her smiling, his arm around her.

"because, matthew. he wants to know if buttercup even still cares about him and loves him. if he told her right away, it would ruin the surprise. that way he can keep the mask on, ask about himself, and if she doesn't love him anymore, then he can just save her anonymously, duh." kaia rolls her eyes.

"but why would he care? wouldn't he just convince her to be with him anyway?" he asks, confused.

"not necessarily. what if her parents made her change her mind because she thought he died? what if she moved on with humperdink?" kaia laughs like it's obvious.

"humperdink?! what kind of motherfucker's name is humperdink?" nick laughs, enthralled.

"the short king who wants to marry buttercup." chloe answers nick.

"tough life with a name like that." chris chuckles, sipping his pepsi and watching the movie.

"don't you guys get it? wesley did everything he could to not die as a pirate so he would be alive to see her again." kaia throws her hands up in defeat.

"the way they talk is so corny." matt laughs.

"oh, please. if you were a farmboy turned pirate badass coming back from the dead to save the love of your life IN COSTUME, you wouldn't talk a little corny?" kaia asks.

"hell, no. i'm not saying some corny shit like "as you wish" i'm not from the fucking 1300s." matt shakes his head.

"the movie is based really early, plus it was made in 1987, it's old as fuck." kaia explains.

"damn, that's before taylor swift was born." chloe adds.

"i'm not saying i don't like it, i'm just saying that the acting is twilight level bad." matt replies.

"you're not wrong." kaia agrees.

they continue talking and eating, enjoying the movie. chris and nathan keep saying how they know they'd survive the torture chamber, nick just threatens to torture them and find out.

the movie is finished by 1:15am, and kaia had completely passed out on matt.

everyone else goes to bed after turning the tv off, and matt decides to carry kaia to bed so she doesn't have to wake up.

he picks her up, and cradles her as he walks upstairs, quietly kicking his door open with his foot.

he sets her down on the bed, and tucks her in. he walks to his door to close it, and when he turns around, he sees kaia rubbing her eyes and slightly waking up.

"you asleep?" he asks, climbing under the covers next to her.

"yes." she responds, turning over.

he laughs and lays behind her, his arms around her body in a big hug.

"can you turn the lamp off?" she mumbles.

matt reaches over her to turn off the light, and lays back down next to her, and she begins snoring.

"as you wish." he whispers before kissing her cheek and laying back down.

everyone is eating breakfast around the kitchen table and talking.

"what time do we have to leave?" kaia asks.

"in like, an hour." nick checks his phone for the time.

"alright. do they have food and drinks there?" she takes a bite of cereal.

"yup." he answers.

kaia nods and looks at matt who is focused on his food and his phone.

"you gotta chill with pokémon, man." chris laughs.

matt ignores him and chloe laughs.

"tara said she's having a party tomorrow if you guys wanna go." nick says, checking his phone.

"our flight is tomorrow night, though." kaia replies.

"our flight is at midnight, and the party starts at nine. we can go for like 2 hours then leave." he looks at her.

"is there time?" she asks.

"plenty." nick nods.

"i'm down." nathan speaks.

"yeah, it'll be fun." chloe agrees.

"alright, sure. i'd love to see her again." kaia smiles.

everyone finishes their breakfast, then showers and gets dressed for topgolf.

they sit around on their phones for a few minutes before matt starts the car and they all get in.

"is it far from here?" chloe asks.

"no, only like, 10 minutes." chris shakes his head.

chloe rests her head on chris' shoulder in the backseat and nick gets aux.

he plays ariana's new album, and even matt, chris, and nate all sing along to it.

we can't be friends, but i'd like to just pretend. you cling to your papers and pens, wait until you like me again. wait for your love. love, i'll wait for your love.

matt glances at kaia as she's humming along and she smiles at him. he smiles back and looks back at the road.

"okay, we're here." matt parks the car.

everyone leaves the car and matt locks it as they walk towards the entrance.

"i'm gonna be awful." kaia laughs.

matt grabs her hand as they walk and he squeezes it for reassurance.

"you'll be fine." he says.

they walk in, go to their reserved spot, and everyone sits down as chris goes first.
