Happiness is overrated
20:15, 9 June 2016Song: Happy - Marina and the diamonds
Looks like I'm going to be a big brother. Again. Oh well, nothing I can do about it.
Gabe took the news quite well. Or, at least better than I did. I kinda had a mini panic attack but, no big deal.
Dean cared more about me than the new baby, which was kind of understandable, it's not like he's the one becoming a big brother again, but I didn't get why he cared about me so much.
Mom was getting moody, and dad seemed more tired than usual. To be honest, I wasn't too keen on the idea of another tiny child running around, but that's life I guess.
Well, weeks passed, Summer was almost over. Mom was only about a month and a half along and was already done with being pregnant.
Dean and I still hung out just about everyday and Sam and Gabe still ran around like mad men driving our Moms crazy.
I was pretty content with my situation, which of course meant that something had to go horribly wrong.
Now, Dean never talked about his dad. Probably because his dad was a dick.
Dean's dad had been arrested and that's when they moved here. To get away from all that awful shit. Well, I guess it decided to follow them.
Me and Dean were up in my room sprawled out on my floor listening to music, as we often did. I loved just sitting there with him, listening to the sounds emitting from my radio.
"Castiel! Someone's here asking for Dean!" Mom called from downstairs. I sighed, running a hand over my face.
"Okay mom!" I yelled back, a little confused.
"Do you think it's my mom?" Dean asked as I sat up, stretching my arms over my head.
"I don't think so, she would've just said your mom was here for you, plus she's at work, right?"
"Yeah, I wonder who it is, and why they're asking for me at your house." He said, clearly puzzled. My shoulders shrugged as I pushed myself up off the floor and I held out my hand for him to grip, it just seemed so natural now. He grabbed my hand, following me out of the room.
After almost tripping down the stairs, accidentally hitting Dean in the face, and nearly tripping over Gabe and Sam, who were running around like crazy people, we finally made it downstairs.
"He's waiting just outside!" Mom called from the kitchen. I nodded in her general direction.
"Thanks mom." I shouted to her. Dean and I ran over to the door, him pulling me back right before I hit the wall. Dean laughed at me, making me pout as he turned the doorknob. Dean threw open the door, "Hello-" his laughing ceased immediately when the door was opened fully. A sharp intake of breath was followed by silence, then chaos.
"YOU BASTARD!" Dean yelled. I jumped, taken aback by his sudden outburst. What the fuck is going on?
"Dean, listen-" another voice started. It was a man's voice, deep, gravely, harsh.
"NO YOU LISTEN, I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN! STAY AWAY FROM US, AWAY FROM SAMMY!" Dean yelled again before slamming the door and running upstairs. What the actual hell?
I heard mom rush into the main room, heels clicking on the floor, probably drawn in by all the ruckus.
"Who was it? What happened?" She asked, a worry in her voice I hadn't heard in a very long time, not since I lost my eyesight.
"I don't know." I replied still in shock. "But don't let him come back."
★★★
I slipped up the stairs to my room, stopped by a startled Sam and Gabe on the way.
"What happened Cassie? Why's Dean mad?" Gabe asked pulling on my shirt as he often does when he wants my attention.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" Sam asked. Sam was a quiet child, I only really ever heard him talk when he was with Dean or Gabe.
"I don't know, but it'll be okay, I swear, go play in your room." I smiled reassuringly.
"Okay Cassie." Gabe said solemnly. I smiled hearing their little footsteps disappear down the hall and turned back to my original path. It wasn't hard to find my way to my bedroom where Dean was undoubtedly hiding.
I slipped the door opened, hinges creaking. The room silent aside from the occasional sniffle, presumably from Dean.
"Dean? Where are you?" I asked softly, waiting patiently for a reply.
"Bed." He muttered simply. I nodded, tiptoeing over to the bed. The bedsprings creaked when I crawled up next to him, kicking off my shoes on the way.
"Dean?" I muttered even softer, reaching over to find him. After accidentally poking his face, I reached up and ran my fingers through his hair. I wasn't too good at comforting people, but this always worked for Gabe, so, whatever. I reached my arm around him, pulling him close caressing his hair. He let out the occasional sniffle, obviously trying not to cry. Whoever was at the door really upset him, I'd never seen him like this before.
"You don't have to tell me anything yet, or ever, but just, try to calm down please." I muttered in a tone usually reserved for Gabe when he was upset.
"Alright." He muttered. I continued to play with his hair, I didn't know if it was helping, but a guy could hope. It felt nice being so close, him cuddling against me.
"You wanna tell me who was at the door?" I asked, running a thumb over his cheek, I could feel the silent tears on his face. He didn't reply at first, which I kind of expected considering whoever was at the door did something truly awful to receive this reaction. After what seemed like forever, Dean finally spoke
"...My dad."
