The Unplanned
05:41, 4 March 2015As soon as the client was out the door, Rhi went to drink another glass of water.
- What the hell is wrong with me? - She asked herself. She looked at her phone. Not even 25°C.
Ly stormed in right then.
- Is he not the most dreamy thing that has ever set foot on this office? - She whispered.
Rhi choked on her water.
- Zac Efron included? - She finally muttered.
- Definitely. Zac was a boy. This is a MAN.
Rhi cackled.
- A very naïve and weird man... - She commented.
Ly rolled her eyes at her.
- Keep telling yourself that, otherwise you’ll fall for him. I saw the way you looked at him when we came back from the smoking break…
She then walked out, back to her cubicle.
- I have no idea what you’re on about, Lydia. – Rhi called out.
But she did. She had felt strange the moment he had walked in. She hated herself for it, but that’s how it was. She thought of Lee. They had been engaged for 3 months now, he was a successful young heir, like her and they were bound to be filthy rich and completely happy forever. She loved him, and felt comfortable and safe around him. He didn’t push her out of her comfort zone and she tried really hard to let him be.
She was always going to work around famous, good looking people, and she needed to stop being impressed by that. Lee was also very handsome, ridiculously tall and had beautiful dark blue eyes, shiny black hair and a dreamy mouth… Rhi started wondering if she wasn’t ovulating and that was why she was feeling so weird.
-
A week later, Rhiannon was getting ready to go out with Lee to have dinner in the new it restaurant in upper Manhattan. They hadn’t seen each other for 3 weeks, since he had been away in Dubai on a business trip. Today he had picked her up to go to his TriBeCa apartment to dine together.
She had a red dress on, which matched beautifully her olive skin. She was tall, but she loved her Louboutins, and Lee was so much taller that it didn’t matter which shoes she wore, he always towered over her. She lifted up her dark amber locks in a ponytail so the new necklace Lee had got her in Diamond District could show. She proceeded to apply mascara on her long eyelashes, that invariably brought up her green eyes.
Then her phone went off. Lydia.
- Rhi, there’s a situation. - Her voice sounded hoarse.
- Can’t it wait till tomorrow? – She felt annoyed. She really wanted to have some quality time with her fiancé. She would never admit it, but she felt guilty about harbouring strange thoughts about her new client and wanted to secretly make it up to Lee.
- Nope, sorry. Remember I was going to meet THE CLIENT tomorrow? – She stressed it. They had begun to call Paul Banks that. – Well turns out the little cold I had is actually tonsillitis and I’m contagious, according to the doctor, so I can’t meet him or anybody for 48 hours, believe me, I am mortified about this…
Rhi sighed. What was there to be done?
- Because you let me down or because you don’t get to meet THE CLIENT by yourself? – She teased her. Ly giggled.
- Both, naturally.
- Good, I’ll see if someone else can cover for you. Get well soon…
- Thanks. You should go…
- Nope, not possible, I have other things scheduled… - She didn’t but she really didn’t want to go.
- Meh, alright, good night Rhi.
- Bye, Ly.
- Shit… - She said under her breath, just as Lee entered the room.
- Everything OK? – He asked, standing behind her and staring at her in the mirror. He looked amazing in his new tuxedo. She nodded.
- Ly is sick, that’s all. I’ll have to look for someone to cover for her in tomorrow’s errands…
- Ah. – He said, looking out the window. As much as he tried to seem interested, Rhi read right through him that he wasn’t.
That was one thing they were different about. Rhi loved her career and maintaining her father’s legacy. Lee was more free spirited and didn’t care so much for banking, the field on which his father had built his empire. He did it because it kept him rich and that was about it.
Rhi didn’t mind. She didn’t need him to be overly supportive about her job. She turned around and kissed his lips, staining his face with her lipstick. He locked his hands on her waist and returned the kiss. Rhi ran her fingers through his hair and then his back…
Soon, they were making love on a fancy piece of Victorian furniture in the corner of Lee's penthouse flat. Dinner would have to wait.
-Good to see you missed me so much… - He teased her, still breathless when they were rearranging their clothes.
She smiled cryptically wondering what had set her off like this. She hoped her makeup wasn't runny and checked her earrings were still on.
-I love you… - She whispered.
He smirked cheekily.
-You too. - He whispered back, taking her hand to get out of there together.
