Attack on Titan: Freedom
20:23, 30 September 2018This is a fluffy story I wrote a couple years ago. I nearly gave up on it but I decided to finish it. Basically this is a story about Eren, Armin, and Mikasa exploring the world outside the walls once the Titans randomly dissapears. Enjoy!
Finally Humanity has won the battle against the Titans and no more exist or roam the earth any longer.
Humanity was finally free from the bird cage and was no longer trapped inside like cattle. Humans are the hunters-- the victors.
Humanity has finally won, but that doesn't mean that they can just immediately hurry out the walls and shout that they are free.
The majority of the population of people stayed inside the walls. But some dated to venture outside to explore the world Beyond the walls.
A week has passed, and it became official by the government that there was no more Titans. Eren, Armin, and Mikasa decides to go explore the world Beyond the walls. They are going to see everything the world has to offer.
The three packs their traveling bags filled with important needs such as food, water and such.
But Armin couldn't help himself and brought along a notebook and pencil as well. He even brought along the book he and Eren read as children as well.
The book was once left behind in Shiganshina district when the Titans broke through wall rose in the year 850 and invaded. Nobody was allowed to bring along any belongings to the boats when everyone was fleeing.
But luckily, Armin didn't bring it. So it didn't get destroyed or such. It was safe inside his houses attic.
When the Titans were confirmed extinct, Armin was able to return to Shiganshina and he was able to get his hands on his most precious book.
Before leaving to explore the outside, Eren, Armin and Mikasa said their goodbyes to their 104th friends who had survived up till now. But they didn't have any parents to say goodbye to.
Eren and Armin’s parents were killed by Titans. And Mikasa’s parents were murdered by bandits.
Eren and Armin's dreams were about to come true. They were about to see the world the Titans stole from the human race for many generations.
Mikasa didn't mind tagging along too. She was also curious about what existed outside. And wherever Eren goes, she goes.
* * *
Eren, Armin and Mikasa were finally free. They were going to see the world together. They made it into what once used to be Titan territory.
There were these woods that held many beautiful flowers among the grass. They were all different shades of blues, purples, and a few pinks.
There many different types of plants along the path as well. Armin spots two birds perched on a branch to a tree.
Armin hurrlily scrambled into his traveling bag and managed to grab out his notebook and pencil and began to sketch the two birds in sight.
By time the two birds flew off, Armin was lucky enough to finish his sketch. He smiles at his masterpiece before showing it off to Eren and Mikasa.
They both smile and Eren gives Armin a thumbs up.
As more and more time passed, the three stayed away from the walled city. Farther and farther…
Soon enough, the sun began to go down. And soon after that, the sky darkened. Night critters would be singing.
It was so pitch dark out….so dark, you wouldn't be able to see a thing in front of you.
Eren held a night light. But even with this, the three couldn't see a thing in their path.
Other than the noises of the singing night critters, all was deathly silent.
Armin becomes nervous. He glances around and doesn't see anything. He could only see Mikasa and Eren in front, but nothing else. Not even the moon or the stars.
He was so thrilled and excited about finally being able to venture outside the walls, free of the fear. But...what if not all the Titans are gone? What if there's one out here right now? Quietly watching and waiting for the perfect moment to pounce at its prey…
As time wore on, Armin becomes more and more anxious…
CAW CAW CAW!!!!!
A group of crows swoops down and nearly crashes into our traveling trio. Armin squeals in startelement. But the cars flew away. They are long gone.
“Armin, are you ok?” Eren turns to Armin in a little concern.
“I...I'm fine.” Armin answers but immediately becomes silent.
Armin felt that he had to pull himself together. He couldn't worry his friends.
The three continues forward in silence. But Mikasa eventually speaks up.
“Eren when are we going to rest? Its dark out and it's not safe to wonder like this.”
Mikasa has a point. It's never safe to wander around in the dark like this. Your practically walking about blindly. What if you fall into a rushing river too strong for you to fight against? What if you fall down a cliff?
Eren lets out a sigh before responding to Mikasa.
“I know Mikasa, I know. I'm just trying to find a spot where we can rest. Just try to hold in for a little bit longer, ok?”
The two nods in return. But what good is finding a place to rest when you can't even see anything around you?
But the three amigos continued their little long trail to find a perfect and safe environment to sleep.
But once again, just like earlier, cawing from crows could be heard.
Armin jumps but refuses to let himself get scared over simple birds.
“They're only birds...just birds.” Armin thinks to himself quietly.
Suddenly there came a loud rustling noise inside a nearby bush.
A howling noise echoes throughout the night air, clearly coming from a wolf that was close by.
Armin sighs to himself, trying to think positive.
The Titans are gone….gone. they are extinct.
But finally, Eren finds everyone the perfect place to rest. Everyone grabs out their sleeping bags and spreads it out on the ground, grabs out a pillow from inside their traveling bag, and tucks themselves in, ready for a good night's rest.
“Armin.” Starts Eren.
“Yeah, Eren?” Armin responds.
“We are finally making our dream a reality! We’ll see the ocean! Just you wait, Armin.”
“Yeah...it seems like some dreams do come true after all.”
And with that, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa closes their eyes before falling asleep.
* * *
“Armin! Armin, wake up!”
“H-Huh?” Armin slowly starts to blink his eyes open before sitting up.
Mikasa handed everyone breakfast before just chilling for awhile. There was no reason to rush this journey.
“Eren! Eren, come here!!” Armin whispers excitedly.
Armin was hiding behind a bush, clearly spying on something.
“What is it Armin?” Eren whispers back before crawling over next to him.
“Ssh! Look!” Armin hushes.
Eren gasp quietly and a big grin grows upon his face.
“Isn't that a deer?”
“Yes. A female deer I believe. If the books we studied in the library were right, male deer have antlers when they are fully grown. And female deers, aren't supposed to grow any at all.” Armin informs.
“Wow…” breaths Eren.
The two continued to silently watch the deer behind the bush before it took off.
Soon after, the trio continued their journey. Eren, Armin, and Mikasa traveled for a bit before pausing in their tracks.
“E-Eren! That's a waterfall! Just like in the books! Rivers of water collapsing from a cliff to enter bigger flows of water!” Armin points excitedly.
“Yeah, it sure is buddy! How awesome!” Eren grins.
“Let's stay here and rest a bit.” Mentions Mikasa. Now would be a good time.
But the two boys had absolutely no reason to disagree, and Armin flipped his notebook open on a clean new page and sat himself on top a tall and sturdy rock. He sits there, admires the beautiful view of the waterfall and sketch's it out onto his book.
After awhile, Armin completes his sketch and smiles brightly. Armin was making himself a little book filled with all the amazing things he’s laid his eyes on during this journey. Armin hurried over to show Eren and Mikasa his new sketch. They were pleased by his work and praised him.
“Armin, you should really make copies and publish this book once your finished! You can make books about the outside world, just like the author from your favorite book!”
“W-What? Seriously?! You...you think I should?”
“Yeah! Totally! After all, we are going to eventually see the entire world, after all. If you keep it up with these sketches and notes, you'll have written an actual book in no time!”
Armin thinks about Eren's recommendation for a moment. Would it really be a good idea?
“You know...that might not be such a bad idea!”
So Armin continued to make sketch's and notes within his book in hopes of one day publishing it into an actual book.
* * *
A several days have passed since the three ventured outside the walls on foot. After exploring the nearby woods, the group stumbles upon a forest. And Armin of course, sketch's many different pictures and writes down many notes.
Armin founds frogs, butterflies, and many different insects he hadn't seen before. He would write and sketch all of it, including the plant life that lived here as well.
Once the group got out of the forest, they found themselves getting wound up in more woods. So they rested there for the night.
Ever since they started traveling, Eren was no longer rash and stupid. Well...he was improving that is. Eren now thinks ahead instead of acting without much thought put into mind.
That night, Eren started a small fire for his friends to sit around, and the three ate some dinner made by yours truly, Mikasa.
Eventually everyone went to sleep. Well….all except for Armin, that is.
He kept having terrifying dreams of the Titans. In his nightmares, the Titans were eating people Alive...they felt no remorse or shame. Only pleasure.
Titans need not to eat anything for survival. But the only thing they have interest in eating anyways, are humans. They ignore all other life forms such as deer.
For some generations, the humans have fought against the Titans. And finally, at long last, they are finally gone. Humanity has won at long last.
Armin eventually falls back asleep, but only to be having yet another terrible nightmare. He would whimper and sob, causing Eren to wake up.
He gently wakes Armin up, out of his nightmare and does his best to calm and soothe him. Armin eventually falls back to sleep, without anymore bad dreams. Pleasant ones replaced the bad ones.
The following day the two travels some more after eating breakfast but discovers the one thing Armin and Eren longed to see most-- the sea.
They would always talk to each other about it and read about it in Armin's favorite book when they were kids. It was their childhood dream to one day see the ocean together once the Titans disappeared.
But Armin couldn't believe it when they actually made it and saw the ocean. The ocean was like a children's story to him. A myth. Something that just couldn't exist in reality. But it does exist. And it's real. And it's standing before him and his friends.
“It's just like in the books…” mutters Armin, jaw dropped.
“Yeah. It's….real. it's just like you told me in the books Armin! Where theres the ocean...there's freedom.”
