Love Candidate - Punishment - Chapter 25
03:01, 18 April 2023No one dared to speak a word or budge an inch in the office as I blankly stared at Taehyung until blood drained from his terrified face. Jungkook finally lowered his face to rub his face, so I gulped and turned to look out the window because I couldn't stand the tense atmosphere within the room. I'm trying to process everything, but my brain is too overwhelmed by the overloading information. Not a single thought echoed in my head, and my heart was a hollow void. I couldn't feel anything, and I couldn't think of anything.
"Don't make up lies just because you're jealous of us," Taehyung glared at Seokjin's uptight face to defend his innocence.
"I have all the documents. Do I have to show it to you? After all these years... you never showed any remorse... for the crime you committed. You don't even know the victim you killed that night. It was me. It was me who had to endure the consequences of your reckless action. I wasn't the one behind the wheel when I ran over a living man- but it was me who chose to protect you that night. I dragged you out of the car and fled despite knowing damn well- you killed someone. I hid everything from you because I thought of you as my family, so ask me again. Am I really responsible for your crime? All these years... I kept my eyes on Jiyoung because I was guilty of a crime I didn't commit," Seokjin spitefully turned to stare at his younger brother. Their pointless argument is hurting my head. I turned away from the gloomy view to find Taehyung glaring furiously at his older brother. Why is everything so complicated? Taehyung suddenly stepped forward to hold my hands with his frightened eyes fixed on mine when he couldn't counter Seokjin. I didn't react to his desperate grasp and stared at him with a blank face.
"Jiyoung-"
"That night... when you told me the story. Why did you leave out the hit and run? Why?" I calmly studied his anxious face.
"I swear I didn't know it was your father-"
"So you ran your car over a person that night? Right?" I asked, impatiently interrupting him.
"Jiyoung, please-"
"Answer me," I ordered in irritation when he kept avoiding my question. Taehyung's hands suddenly shook as he stared at me with his puppy eyes. Why did you lie to me? He lowered his face to swallow the lump in his throat.
"I did, but-"
"Seokjin. Can you show me all the files? The evidence related to my father's death," I sighed, turning to stare at Seokjin's sore expression, causing Taehyung to whimper in distress.
"Jiyoung- You can't possibly believe him-"
"I won't believe either of you until I see the evidence, so bring them to me," I bitterly interrupted Taehyung and pulled my hand out of his grip. I can't feel anything right now, so I won't presume the truth until I have concrete evidence to avoid making irrational decisions.
"I'll bring it to you," Seokjin finally exhaled, slightly nodding at me with his hands on his hips.
"It was our scheme, wasn't it!? To ruin us like this!?" Taehyung angrily turned to glare at Seokjin in irritation.
"Why are you so frightened if you're truly innocent? Jiyoung deserves to know the truth, so bring her the evidence," Jungkook crossed his arms at Taehyung's hysterical outburst.
"I tried to save you, but I can't do this anymore- not when it involves Jiyoung," Seokjin shook his head at Taehyung's hopeless face. I sighed heavily and walked out of the office in defeat. I can't act on impulse until I have proof of my father's death.
What if it was Taehyung who killed your father, Jiyoung? What will you do then?
He's the reason you lost your father- I said I will not make stupid assumptions without proper evidence! For all I know, it might be a scheme set up by his mother to break us apart!
But what if he's responsible for your father's death?
I don't know. I don't want to think of it!
"I'll take you home," Jungkook appeared by my side as soon as I arrived at the lobby. He looked upset, so I stopped and turned to face him when I noticed Taehyung following me from behind. Jungkook stopped at the door and turned to look at me with a questioning look when I refused to follow him out the door. I quietly scanned the messy raw egg stains on Taehyung's skin and clothes with a dim expression.
"I'll head home with Taehyung. Have a safe trip home," I finally sighed, nodding at Jungkook to dismiss him. He frowned at my response and glanced at Taehyung's composed behavior with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Jiyoung-"
"We still have many things to plan for the wedding. Taehyung can't handle it alone," I interrupted Jungkook, whose face suddenly flashed with a betrayed expression. I know what he's thinking, but Taehyung will stay innocent until proven guilty, so I'll stay right by his side until then. I can't act rashly- I might regret ruining our relationship. Jungkook clenched his jaw and tried to walk forward when I took Taehyung's dirty hand and led him away before he could stop me. All the staff were gossiping about Taehyung and were firing him weird looks. I exhaled and gently brushed the sticky stain from his cheek. Taehyung carefully studied my unbothered behavior with his anxious gaze fixed on mine. He's frightened.
"Jiyoung, I want to explain-"
"I'll drive you home. Come on," I took the car key from Taehyung's hand to unlock the door and got in to start the engine. Taehyung unsurely blinked as he watched me buckle my seatbelt, so he rounded the car and slipped into the passenger seat.
"You can drive?" Taehyung asked while putting on his seatbelt.
"Yeah. My stepfather taught me to drive when I was younger," I shrugged and carefully drove out of the parking lot. Taehyung grew hushed as I drove through the city. We arrived at his apartment at dusk. He immediately went to his bedroom to shower, so I sat down to talk with Yoongi in the living room. The news circulated the media during the grand opening, so people got upset and threw things at Taehyung to chase him off the stage.
I stared unblinkingly at the commotion on the television screen with Yoongi until I got sick of it and got onto my feet to enter Taehyung's bedroom. The shower in the bathroom was still running. What's taking him so long??? I carefully opened the door and stepped inside to find Taehyung standing in the transparent glass shower stall with his head hung low. The glass was foggy, but I could still see his well-built body structure through the humid mist. Sighing, I slipped off my clothes, carefully stepping into the shower with him.
"Oh. I'm almost done," Taehyung sniffled in panic at my unexpected presence, slightly turning his head away to hide his face. I glanced at the sticky substance in his hair and slowly reached out to turn off the shower. He didn't even wash his hair yet?
"Look at me," I gently whispered, tugging his forearm to make him turn towards me. Taehyung stiffly kept his face low, so I grabbed his wet cheeks and lifted his face to find streams of tears rolling down his face. He stared at me in pain as I quietly examined his bloodshot puffy eyes.
"I'm sorry-"
"Sit down. I'll wash your hair," I interrupted, gently drawing Taehyung away from the shower head to make him sit on a built-in tiled bench in the stall. Taehyung pursed his lips and sat down as I instructed. I turned to grab the shower head and gently rinsed his hair in silence before shampooing his dirty hair a few times to get rid of the raw eggs. Taehyung grew hushed as I gently massaged his scalp to soothe his thoughts before scrubbing his skin with a body sponge. We didn't exchange conversations in the shower until I was done washing his hair. Taehyung quietly watched me from the bench as I showered before him, so I told him to dry himself because he was shivering like a lost puppy. He stood up and left me in the stall alone. I exhaled after he disappeared and tilted my face upward to greet the warm droplets. There are absolutely no thoughts in my mind- I can't even feel a pinch of emotion inside my chest.
Am I numb? I don't know. I'm struggling to process everything. The shower got a bit too warm, so I switched off the faucet and stepped out of the room in my towel to find Taehyung sitting on the edge of the bed with a sick face. I didn't look at him while I slipped on warm clothes as he waited to speak with me, but I ignored him and left the room. We ate in the living room in total silence. Yoongi left to collect the turnover in the basement, so we're the only ones in the apartment. I went back to Taehyung's bedroom early to brush my teeth and finally stepped out of the bathroom to find Taehyung sitting on the mattress with his head hung low again. The unsettling atmosphere is making me feel stuffy. I'm trying so hard to avoid triggering an argument with him, so why is he acting like this? Exhaling, I slowly sat beside him to loosen my hair when Taehyung suddenly slid off the bed to kneel on the floor.
"What are you doing?" I froze in place as he sat with his legs tucked under him. Taehyung slowly lifted his tearful eyes to stare at me with a frightened expression. His hands were shaking from whatever stress he was under.
"I'm sorry. I swear- I didn't know-" Taehyung tried to speak but halted when he couldn't find the right words to justify himself.
"How many times did I tell you not to kneel? This isn't how I love," I shook my head in disappointment when he suddenly grabbed my hands and scooted forward on the floor to stare at me with his bulging tearful eyes.
"Please don't leave me- Jiyoung- I never meant to hurt you! Or your father! I know everything was my fault, but we've come too far! I don't want to lose you like this!" Taehyung begged while gripping my hands. His desperation... painfully crushing my heart with his broken voice.
"Why are you begging me when you don't even know who you hit that night?" I whispered, sorely staring at his unstable condition.
"I'm sorry- I was just traumatized- and no matter how hard I try to search for a solution- I can't find an answer. I have no idea how to resolve this- and I'm really scared because you might-"
"The reason you can't find an answer to this problem is because... the decision isn't yours to make. It's mine. I will make the decision once there's solid proof of my father's death," I replied. Taehyung sucked in his breath, slowly staring up at my expressionless face in terror as he knelt before me.
"You don't l-love me anymore?" Taehyung stuttered in pain as tears streamed down his damped cheeks. I quietly studied his torn condition with an aching chest.
"I do. I love you. I still do... but I don't know what I'm feeling right now. I want to be with you. I really do... but the thing is... I can't feel anything anymore. I can't feel anything at all. I'm numb, Taehyung. I'm numb," I whispered, sadly shaking my head as I rubbed my thumb over the tear stain on his cheek. I want to pity him... I want to feel something for him- but I can't. My body is too paralyzed to spare him any empathy.
"Are you- going to leave me?" Taehyung swallowed with his hopeless eyes fixed on mine. I lowered my face at his question to think about it and finally glanced at him with a troubled expression.
"I'll stay by your side.... until you're proven guilty," I whispered. The lights in Taehyung's eyes died at my words. He couldn't react to my confession and remained frozen before me with his lips slightly ajar. I sadly studied his wrecked condition as unconscious tears dripped down his cheeks.
"J-Jiyoung-"
"I'm sorry," I whispered, gently patting his head to comfort him. I got on the bed and rolled over to the other side. I slipped under the blanket on my sides with my eyes glued to the city view because I couldn't bear to look at Taehyung's desperate expression. Why can't I feel anything? Taehyung remained on the floor as I slept on the bed and closed my eyes when I finally felt him crawling onto the bed, but he didn't touch me. He shifted on the bed in silence without speaking with me. I sighed and closed my eyes... and oddly... I managed to fall asleep. Appa... I'm so tired of my life.
The darkness in my sleep gradually became brighter as I unconsciously floated back to reality after the deep sleep. I didn't dream. It was just darkness. I drifted lifelessly in the dense air... peacefully elevating upward until I suddenly felt an odd burning sensation all over my body. I twitched on the bed but wasn't fully awake yet and tried to sleep again until I felt a hot jolt of tingling sensation all over my body. The throbbing pleasure was so intense- it made me arch my back on the mattress. Finally, I opened my eyes to find the bright but blurry room and turned to look at the empty pillow beside mine.
"Hmm~" I sleepily groaned as I struggled to shake off the drowsiness. I felt another warm throb between my legs, so I lifted my head to find a figure sitting between my legs.
"Hah~ What are you doing?" I shakily moaned and slumped back on the pillow when I felt a firm grip over either side of my thighs. Taehyung didn't answer me, so I twisted my body on the bed and reached down to feel his fluffy hair. His head was positioned between my legs. I moaned in distress as he dug his face into my sensitive area until I lifted my hips off the mattress at the intensity. He effortlessly pinned my lower body back on the bed to hold me in place while teasing me with his thrilling tongue activities.
"I'm pleasing you. Are you feeling good?" Taehyung replied, finally sitting up between my legs after eating me. I sleepily rubbed my face without responding when I felt the presence of his fingers in between my legs, making me jerk in shock at his unexpected entry. I grunted and finally looked down to find Taehyung sitting on the bed with his fingers inside me.
"This early?" I grumbled as he gently stroked my inside. My body is in heat. Fuck. I moaned and reached down to hold his hand as he pleased me. He was holding my thighs apart to stop me from closing my legs, so I arched my back and turned to grab the pillow in distress.
"Do you want to do it? Are you not in the mood?" Taehyung asked as he steadily rubbed my pleasure spot until I squivered from the intensity.
"How can you ask me that question when you're playing with me like this?" I muttered, sleepily closing my eyes to hold back my moan.
"I'll stop-"
"Undress me," I whispered, grabbing his hand between my legs when he tried to stop. Taehyung shoved his fingers back inside, making me moan in satisfaction, and arched my back as he leaned over my body to pull my nightgown off my head. He finally positioned his hips between my legs, so I lifted my head to watch him slip on a condom. Taehyung grabbed his pillow to place it under my lower waist before rubbing our private parts against one another to arouse our bodies. I gripped the bedsheet in discomfort as he slowly penetrated me.
"Tell me if you're uncomfortable because I'll be a bit rough," Taehyung informed as he slowly thrust inside to warm up our bodies. I didn't reply to him, so he sped up the pace, yet I refused to give in and remained unresponsive. Taehyung suddenly slowed down to pound harder until I felt my body melting with every shove. He was rough, but I didn't complain and took him because I desperately needed the pleasure. I don't like to be numb... and I know he's also feeling the same way. That's why he's being rough with me. We're both struggling with the empty void in our chests, and sex was the only way to revive our numbed souls from the paralyzing emotions. It worked. I felt a flood of intense emotions while he thumped into me, and my mind was all over the place again. But we weren't satisfied after the first round, so we kept going. Again and again. One condom after another... until we were both drenched in each other's sweat, and our skin was filled with love-making bruises.
"Hah~" Taehyung panted, finally collapsing beside me as I struggled to catch my breath with my eyes fixed on the ceiling. I'm so sore, and my heart is racing out of control. It was so intense... I could feel the pulse beating in my head, and my body is burning like fire. Taehyung thirstily gulped while rubbing his fuming face beside me, so I turned on my side to swing my leg over his sweaty torso. He slipped his bicep under my damp hair to cushion my head on his sticky chest. My body is melting from his after-sex heat. But I didn't mind and snuggled my face against his sweat-soaked skin as Taehyung rubbed my sweaty back with his eyes closed.
"Are you drained? Do you want to go again?" I whispered, lifting my head to stare at the glowing sweat beads on his forehead
"I can't even lift a finger," He muttered, completely depleted of energy. I sighed and slowly pushed my body off the mattress to sit on Taehyung's crotch.
"I'll take control," I whispered. Taehyung opened his eyes to frown at me as I perched on him.
"You're not satisfied? You orgasmed so many times already," Taehyung muttered in exhaustion.
"Can you handle a few more rounds?" I raised my eyebrows. Taehyung gulped in exhaustion as he watched me sit on him.
"You can do whatever you want," He nodded, so I immediately slipped him inside me without warning, causing him to grunt in pain. He's very sensitive right now because he finished too many times. Taehyung didn't complain, so I took over and did as I pleased with his body. I pulled through a few more rounds until Taehyung grunted and groaned in discomfort, but I refused to stop and took him in me... again and again until I lost count.
"Fuck," I whispered, suddenly collapsing onto Taehyung's sweat-drenched body after I squirted again. I tried to sit back up- but I was too sore, so I slumped on his racing chest in defeat.
"Can you grab the tissues..." I whispered, but Taehyung didn't respond to me, so I lifted my flustered face to find his head slumped to the side.
"Are you asleep? Taehyung???" I frowned and gently slapped his cheek to wake him up. He didn't respond. I grabbed Taheyung's face and turned him over- his head flopped weakly to the side. He passed out. I exhaled and slowly got off him to sit at the bedside. Did I go too far? I guiltily turned to find Taehyung's burning body and glanced at all the bruises I inflicted on him. Shit. I lost control! Taehyung didn't dare complain and let me do as I pleased until I knocked him out after the endless intercourse. What's the matter with me?! I'm going crazy! Sighing, I got off the bed to clean myself in the bathroom before returning to the bedroom. Taehyung was still unconscious on the bed, so I grabbed the tissues to clean up the mess on his body. I gently wiped his skin with sanitizing wipes before leaning over the mattress to pull the warm blanket over his body.
"You guys already took the pre-wedding pictures?" Yoongi asked as he ate a bowl of bibimbap on the couch while flipping through the documents with an eager expression.
"Yeah. It was a busy day," I nodded, slumping down to scan the piles of documents. Will this work out? I don't know.
"What will you guys do if the court arrests Taehyung before the wedding?" Yoongi glanced at me anxiously.
"I'll find a way to get him out," I shrugged. What if he's your father's killer? Will you still help him? Jiyoung, you're definitely not okay. How far are you going to push yourself? Like I said. I don't know. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say. I don't know how to react. And I definitely don't know how to deal with this situation. I'm in despair. Just like Taehyung, I used to sleep with multiple men a day when I'm unstable to get my mind off the triggering thoughts. I was so stressed from all this... I used Taehyung repeatedly to distract myself until he passed out on the bed. I'm stuck in this endless loop, and I'm afraid... the forthcoming blow will completely wreck me for good.
"You're all he has," Yoongi muttered, dismissively flipping through our picture samples.
"He has his family," I whispered, bitterly turning to look at the gloomy day.
"You are his family. I was scared for him when he got with you," Yoongi sighed with his eyes fixed on the paper.
"What do you mean?" I asked unsurely, averting my eyes to Yoongi.
"He was never allowed to be with anyone permanently, and it never really bothered him until he met you. It's weird, you know? I've lived with him for so long... it's strange to see him change like this. He's not the type to care about anything- or anyone... but you had him thinking about you all the time. He overthinks every little thing about you. He's insecure because he's afraid of failing to please you. His efforts... It's so desperate. When you guys fought after he became a shareholder... I really thought he was going mad. He'd dash out of the apartment in excitement after figuring out a plan to please you and come home a mess. He'd sulk every time he returned... bringing back unwanted bouquets... gifts... teddies. And again... when you fought over your best friends... he wasn't ignoring you. Taehyung was desperately waiting for your call. So I thought... ah... you're going to break his heart really bad if things don't work out, but I'm relieved now. You're getting married, so I'm really happy for you and him," Yoongi spoke in a raspy voice while staring at me from across the couch. I didn't respond to him and sat listlessly after hearing his words.
Do I love Taehyung? I do. I'm in love with him, and I'm still falling. But if Taehyung's responsible for my father's death... I don't think I can stay by his side. Of course, I'll still love him, and it'll break my heart like hell... but I can't avoid the harsh truth. He might be my source of happiness... but it was also him- who killed my soul ten years ago. I want to keep loving him, but at what cost? I'm falling apart to hold him.
"Ah~ Ah-" Taehyung moaned from the corridor. Yoongi and I both turned to find him walking into the living room with his legs spread out like a penguin. His hair was a mess... and his face was swollen from blacking out.
"What's the matter with you??? Why are you walking like that?" Yoongi frowned as he trailed his eyes after Taehyung's stiff movements, whose face was sore as he carefully sat on the couch beside me.
"Ah! Ah~ I'm so sore," Taehyung grumbled, carefully adjusting his butt on the couch, then leaned back with thighs spread open to rub his face. Yoongi glanced at me unsurely and got up to use the kitchen, so Taehyung asked him to bring an ice pack. Yoongi came back with it and handed it to Taehyung with a slight frown.
"What is it for- Mohya??? Is it for your dick???" Yoongi froze in shock when Taehyung grabbed the ice pack to place it on his crotch over his pants with a flushed expression. My eyes grew wide open as he leaned back against the couch with his eyes closed.
"Was I too rough???" I stared at Taehyung's condition in confusion. Taehyung groaned under his breath as he shakily shifted his body to rest his head on my lap with his legs extended over the couch.
"You left me so sensitive- I can barely walk. I think it's swollen- it's throbbing so much," Taehyung grumbled with his eyes closed, firmly holding the ice pack over his bulge. Yoongi awkwardly turned to stare at me in shock.
"He can't walk because of you? But Jiyoung- You walked out fine a moment ago-"
"That's the problem. She's fine... and I'm not. She's not for weak men to handle. Does that make me a weak man? Ah~" Taehyung grumbled as he clutched the ice pack.
"You really are a beast," Yoongi teased, sitting back on the opposite couch with a faint smile. I patted Taehyung's firm cheek as he whimpered on my lap in discomfort. He wanted it rough... but I was too rough... oops.
Flashback 01 | Villa Trip
"Stop following her like a puppy!" Namjoon scolded Taehyung when he wouldn't stop tailing me around the villa.
"Why not?" Taehyung grimaced at his brother as I walked into the ground floor bathroom and tried to close the door when he suddenly stepped inside with me.
"What are you doing?" I turned to look at Taehyung in confusion after he closed the door.
"Nothing. I just don't want to be away from you," Taehyung shrugged, leaning against the sink. Does he have attachment issues? Why is he so clingy???
"I need to poop. Get out," I frowned.
"You can poop. I'll wait," Taehyung shrugged, causing my jaw to drop open in disbelief. Is he nuts??
"No! It's embarrassing! Go and help your brothers! I'll be back in a bit!" I snapped, pushing him out of the bathroom.
"But-" Taehyung whined and tried to walk back in, so quickly closed the door before he could complain and hurried towards the toilet to release my discharge. I finally left the bathroom after emptying my stomach to find Taehyung helping Namjoon set up a picnic table while Seokjin cooked in the kitchen. Hoseok was chatting with Yoongi in the living room, and Jimin was asleep on the couch because of the long drive from Seoul. Where are Jungkook and Hyeri? I didn't know what to do, so I walked around the villa until I found an indoor pool facing the lake. I carefully slid the glass door open and stepped inside the warm room to find a medium size oval-shaped pool enclosed by a transparent glass wall. Jungkook was swimming back and forth in his shorts.
"Are you seriously swimming during winter?" I smiled, sitting down on the pool bench to watch him stroke back and forth.
"They have a heating system, so the water is warm," Jungkook sexily combed his wet hair backward as he paddled through the water.
"Yah!" I snapped when he playfully splashed the water at me.
"The scenery is so pretty," Jungkook chuckled, turning to stare at the calm lake before us.
"I didn't know Taehyung invited you," I whispered.
"He's really nice," Jungkook shrugged, turning to smile at me.
"Hyeri... is she... okay?" I asked, unsurely turning to look inside the main villa to find her sitting on an armchair with a book in her hand.
"Oh. I asked Hyeri to come on the vacation with you to assure her you're with Taehyung," Jungkook shrugged when Hyeri suddenly stepped into the pool house with a neutral expression. She seemed suspicious of us, so I greeted her with a slight smile. I shouldn't be awkward! There's nothing between us!
"You're swimming," She dully nodded at Jungkook as she stood awkwardly with the book in her hand.
"Join me..." Jungkook smirked at her, but she didn't respond and turned to look at me.
"You two-"
"Jagiya? What are you doing here?" Taehyung suddenly stepped into the room with a questioning look and glanced at the unsettling atmosphere as Jungkook stood shirtless in the pool while Hyeri stood with her arms crossed.
"I was just chatting with Jungkook and Hyeri," I shrugged. Taehyung walked up to me and sat down to frown at Jungkook's sexy abs with a disapproving expression.
"Are you here to watch him swim naked?" Taehyung whispered in my ear. I scoffed and smacked his arm in disbelief. How can he say that when he knows I prefer his body???
"We haven't told anyone yet, but we're engaged now," I turned to smile at Jungkook before averting my eyes to Hyeri. She's skeptical of Jungkook's relationship with me, so I'll clarify the misunderstanding.
"Moh?" Jungkook scoffed in shock.
"You're engaged?" Hyeri gasped, turning to look at us in surprise.
"We are! I proposed to her a while ago, so we'll be preparing for our wedding after the trip! I'll invite you two to our wedding! Maybe you'll catch the bouquet, Hyeri-shi!" Taehyung nodded at her with a bright beam, causing both Jungkook and Hyeri's faces to flush red.
"Let's not disturb them! Come on! You guys have fun!" I chuckled and quickly got up. I dragged Taehyung out of the pool house, hurriedly strolling back into the living room with him. It was already getting dark outside, and the villa was filled with mouth-watering scents as Seokjin quietly prepared the meals for us. Yoongi was also helping Seokjin in the kitchen. I sat down on the couch with Taehyung when he suddenly slumped down to rest his heavy head on my lap.
"Do you want to swim?" Taehyung smiled as I gently played with his hair.
"It's cold," I shook my head. He pouted as he interlaced our fingers to hold our hands over his chest.
"Then should we work out in our bedroom? I'll keep you warm," He smirked. I glanced down at his naughty expression and gently squished his cheeks to tease him.
"Later," I whispered, lowering my face to kiss his forehead. Taehyung smiled as we kissed on the couch when he suddenly winced in discomfort.
"Ow-"
"What's the matter? Oh? You've got a pimple on your forehead," I whispered after clearing his wild bangs to find a swollen bump on his skin.
"Ah! Don't touch-"
"I'll pop it for you! Stay still!" I snapped, pushing his hands away. He tried to turn his head, so I grabbed his face and turned him back to examine the pimple on my lap. I sternly lowered my concentrated gaze to press on the swollen cyst... causing Taehyung to screw his face in pain as I forced the liquid out of his irritated skin.
"Ah~ It hurts~ Jagiya~~~" Taehyung whined as I carefully squeezed out the liquid before turning to grab a few tissues to dab the mess on his forehead.
"It's out. I got it. I'll give you a serum treatment later to prevent scarring," I muttered after sanitizing Taehyung's forehead as he groaned on my lap.
"Give me a kiss! I'm in pain!" Taehyung pouted cutely, making me laugh at his adorable pouty lips.
"Aigo~ *smooch* *smooch* *smooch*. Does it hurt less now my little baby bear~?" I repeatedly pecked him all over his face until he giggled happily like a little kid at the ticklish sensation. Taehyung chuckled and turned on the couch with a flushed face- suddenly freezing in panic, so I looked up to find Namjoon, Jimin, Hoseok, Seokjin, and Yoongi staring at our flirty interaction with a disgusted yet awkward expression. Our faces flushed red when we realized they were watching us.
"What? We're engaged!" Taehyung quickly sat up to frown at them.
"MOH?" Namjoon gasped in shock. Jimin sleepily smiled at us as he sat on the couch with Yoongi, who was coughing awkwardly with a whisky glass in his hand. Taehyung grabbed my hand to show them my ring with a smug expression.
"Wah! Congratulations! We should celebrate!" Hoseok gasped in surprise. Namjoon shook his head with a weak smile and sat down on the couch with a fruit plate. Seokjin, on the other, appeared really bitter... but he remained quiet and sat down to watch the television without reacting to the announcement.
End of flashback
Ever since the day... I found out about my father's accident... It was hard for me to keep the negative thoughts out of my head. I promised to lead a normal life with Taehyung to avoid causing unnecessary problems in our relationship... but I couldn't keep my mind off it. Taehyung didn't confront me either, so we pretended as if nothing happened between us. I couldn't sleep for days... so I'd watch Taehyung sleep until dawn... silently praying that he wasn't involved with the incident. But there was this unsettled feeling inside my chest. Seokjin has been hushed ever since I asked him to bring the evidence. What is he doing? If his claim is true... then why is he holding back?
Well. My heart dropped when I opened the apartment door on a stormy afternoon to find Seokjin and Secretary Yoo standing in the doorway. Taehyung's face turned pale in their presence. We had no choice but to let them in the apartment. Secretary Yoo prepared the document for us on the table as I sat with my hands clasped together. So this is the truth? Yoongi appeared with a questioning look and sat down with us as Jimin leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
"You wanted to know the truth. I prepared it," Seokjin exhaled, nodding at the stack of confidential files with a dull expression.
"Do you expect us to believe this?" Taehyung frowned at the documents with a skeptical look.
"It's all official and authentic proof from the court and the police investigation team. Eomma made me retrieve all of it. She eliminated many high-ranking men just to conceal your crime. I didn't submit the evidence to the court until Eomma asked me to do it," Seokjin calmly explained.
"Eomma is responsible!? She exposed the secret to the media??!" Taehyung frowned at his brother.
"She's upset. I don't know if she's doing this to punish you, but that's not why I'm here today. I'm here because I want Jiyoung to know the truth. She deserves to know the truth," Seokjin exhaled, averting his weary gaze to meet mine as I nervously rubbed my hands.
"Why isn't Taehyung aware of anything if he caused the accident?" I rubbed my face in confusion. He doesn't even know the identity of the man he killed. How is that possible???
"Because it was eomma's order to keep the accident away from Taehyung. She wouldn't let him handle the case," Seokjin exhaled, slowly crossing his legs on the couch. I turned to find Taehyung rubbing his hands with a guilty expression.
"Why?" I frowned at Seokjin. Is it because she loves Taehyung? So she did everything she could to keep him from harm? Is that why she's using it against him now?
"Because your father was a former businessman. Everyone knows your father in the business industry. The news could've put our family in a lot of trouble, and Taehyung was traumatized. That's why eomma locked him up at home for a year after the accident," Seokjin sighed. What? I turned to look at Taehyung with my eyes wide open. She locked him up???
"Eomma was very upset, so she refused to let me out of the mansion after the accident I caused. I begged her on my knees until she agreed to free me. On one condition. I had to join the mafia," Taehyung confessed, lowering his head to stare at his clasped hands. So Taehyung was forced to join the mafia by his mother?
"So how did it happen? The accident?" I asked, sorely looking up at Seokjin. That night... I was home waiting for appa's return, but he never returned until the next day. I waited for him until sunset... until eomma called to tell me appa had passed away because of an unfortunate accident. I didn't see appa until the funeral day- I couldn't feel anything but a numb ache in my chest. I couldn't cry... I couldn't speak... I couldn't even move my muscles. My feelings were delayed... so the buildups inside my chest kept swelling until I finally burst out bawling a few days after we cremated appa. Eomma never told me the details aside from the fact that he died due to brain damage that night after being hit by a car in a rainstorm.
"Your father left his workplace late on the 15th of November because of the storm. He was waiting for the storm to pass, but it never did. So he went home in the rain. It was Taehyung's car that drove into him that night after the car steered to the side. I immediately stopped my car after I saw the accident to contact an ambulance before racing after Taehyung," Seokjin exhaled as Secretary Yoo placed the photographs on the table before me. It was snapshots of camera footage on the main road displaying a clear shot of a red sports car and my father walking in the rain. I stared at the picture in silence... So that was the last moment of his life? He was heading through the rain because he knew I was waiting for him?
"Is it your car? The plate number," Yoongi asked Taehyung, who was as pale as a ghost as he stared at the car model.
"Y-Yeah. It was a birthday present from eomma. She gifted me that car," Taehyung admitted as he stared at the evidence on the table.
"Why did you run? That night... Why didn't you stop?" I whispered, turning to look at Taehyung in tears. He hit my father... and instead of stopping... he ran...? Taehyung nervously turned to stare at me with a guilty expression.
"I don't know. I was scared. I panicked, so I- I just drove away-" Taehyung stuttered in difficulty. Would it have made a difference if Taehyung stopped his car that night? Maybe I could've forgiven him- but he ran. He ran from his crime and never even bothered to give a damn about my father. He doesn't even know my father's name. Would it have made a difference if he showed a little bit of remorse... by knowing my father's name, at the very least?
"You lived without remorse... while I was crushed over my father's death. I was hanging on for my dear life after you took him away from me... and you don't even know my father's name? Did you neglect his passing to save your own happiness? All those years... I've suffered... desperately begging to see my father again... you didn't even care about the incident?" I whispered until I teared up as the painful ache throbbed in my chest. Jimin let out a deep sigh as he watched me struggle to hold myself together. He knows. Jimin saw that side of me. He saw my pain and despair. He was there with me, and I even bled on him. We suffered so much, and yet... Taehyung was living a guilt-free life? How's that fair? I could've forgiven him if he made an effort to reflect on his crime after killing my father. But no... he ignored all of his responsibilities and chose not to face it at all...? How can he be this heartless and ignorant after killing an innocent soul???
"I have been watching over you ever since your father passed. That's why I asked my mother to be your love candidate because-"
"Because you felt bad for me? Because your brother killed my father, and you were his accomplice? You felt guilty for covering your brother's crime, so you saw me out of pity? Pity?" I scoffed, rudely looking at Seokjin. I'm so fucking done with their pity game. I'm sick of his family!
"Jiyoung. I'm so sorry," Taehyung suddenly grabbed my hands in tears. I was fuming in heat, so I roughly yanked my arm out of his grip with a furious glare. No one is the good guy here!
"Will it bring my father back?!" I snapped, suddenly leaping onto my feet in anger.
"Listen to me! Where are you going!?-" Taehyung raised his voice when I tried to storm away. He immediately got up to grab hold of my arm.
"My father died because of your stupid fight over another woman!" I roared at his face in anger. Taehyung's eyes filled with tears as he stared at my outraged eyes. My father died because of their foolish love game!
"I'm sorry! Jiyoung, please! I'm begging you! It's the past! Are you really going to ruin our relationship over a dead man-" SLAP. Taehyung halted in shock at the rough impact on his cheek. He stood stiffly with his face turned to the side after I slapped him. How can he say that? Pained tears swelled in my eyes as I trembled before him in distress.
"It's the past..? Is it that simple? You killed my father, and you expect me-"
"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?! I CAN'T REVIVE HIM- NOR CAN YOU! HE'S FUCKING DEAD!" Taehyung suddenly bellowed at my face in anger with the glowing red hand print on his cheek.
"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, THEN WHY DID YOU RUN?! WHY DID YOU FUCKING RUN LIKE A FUCKING COWARD?! I WAS A FUCKING MESS BECAUSE OF YOU! IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU- I WOULDN'T HAVE ENDED UP AT THE FUCKING MONSTER'S HOUSE! MY FATHER WOULD BE ALIVE, AND I COULD'VE LIVED A HAPPY LIFE! CAN'T YOU SEE IT? YOUR FUCKING RECKLESS ACTION MESSED UP ANOTHER PERSON'S LIFE! YOU DESTROYED MY LIFE! MY LIFE WAS THROWN INTO COMPLETE DISORDER BECAUSE OF YOU- AND IT FUCKING SUCKS TO KNOW YOU DIDN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR CRIME!" I cried in his face until the hollow void in my chest violently erupted with painful emotions... and my entire body was suddenly aching in despair. Taehyung immediately grew hushed and stared at my angered face in fright.
"Jiyoung- I- I really don't know how to fix this! All I can do is apologize! What do you expect me to do?!" Taehyung softened his voice, shakily reaching out to hold my hands again.
"I'm done with you. Don't you fucking show up before my face again-"
"No! I'm sorry! Jiyoung, please! I've lived in guilt! The trauma never left me! Please don't do this!- Please!" Taehyung suddenly dropped to his knees before everyone to hug my legs when I tried to walk away from him.
"Let me go!" I screamed in frustration at his pathetic pleads, roughly struggling to shove him away. He refused to release me and bawled in distress.
"I LOVE YOU! PLEASE- DON'T WALK AWAY FROM ME! JIYOUNG- BABY, PLEASE!" Taehyung sobbed as he stubbornly hugged my leg in tears.
"I hate you!-" I shrieked in anger until Jimin straightened his back with an unsettled expression as he watched us fight in the living room, but no matter what I did... he wouldn't let go and cried hopelessly on the floor. Taehyung looked up at me with his tearful puppy eyes, making my chest wrench in pain at the sight of it. Fuck! I want to gouge out his eyes!
"You promised me! You promised to stay by my side- I'm not letting you go!" Taehyung screamed as I struggled to free myself from his clutch. The others bitterly watched us fight in the living room- when the door suddenly opened... and a flood of men entered the apartment. We all turned to look at the police in horror as they filled the room.
"The supreme court have authorized a restraining order for Kim Taehyung. Please cooperate with us," A police officer lifted an arrest warrant. Taehyung's face turned pale as he hugged my leg on the floor in shock, startled by their sudden statement.
"What is this? My mother-" Seokjin immediately shot up in confusion at the unexpected intrusion.
"Arrest him," A familiar voice dawdled, and my heart sank when the woman appeared in the doorway.
"Eomma???" Seokjin frowned at his mother as she casually walked into the room with an unbothered expression. I stared at her in disbelief.
"Seize him," The chief police nodded. His men suddenly charged forward to tackle Taehyung onto the carpet, causing me to freeze in shock at the chaotic dispute within the room.
"Ah! Don't fucking touch me! Let me go! Argh!!!" Taehyung screamed in distress as he resisted the policemen on the floor. They tried to pin him down until he kicked a man in the face and scrambled onto his feet but was immediately caught by a few other men before he could escape. Taehyung roared angrily and turned to punch the policeman with all his might, sending the guy toppling to the side.
"Restrain him!" The chief officer ordered as we watched Taehyung struggling to defend himself. He's outnumbered.
"EOMMA! HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME?! AFTER EVERYTHING I'VE DONE FOR YOU?! THIS IS UNFAIR!" Taehyung bellowed, snapping his head toward his mother's cold expression in tears.
"You betrayed your own family, Taehyungie. You broke my heart," She coldly replied. Taehyung's lips trembled in horror at her hurtful claims. Slowly, the woman averted her wicked eyes to mine with a slight smile.
"No!- No! Jiyoung! No! Don't leave! Jiyoung, please! Don't leave me- eomma! Don't do this! Please! I can't lose her! EOMMA- TELL THEM TO RELEASE ME!" Taehyung screamed at the top of his lungs after the officers successfully pinned him on the floor. He cried in tears as I pushed my way out of the living room to leave the apartment.
"Cuff him-"
"JIYOUNG! PLEASE- YOU'RE THE ONLY PERSON I HAVE LEFT! YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME LIKE THIS! BABY PLEASE DON'T ABADON ME!" Taehyung roared in agony, causing my chest to clench in pain. I halted at the doorway and turned to find the policemen... brutally shoving Taehyung's wounded face against the floor as they struggled to hold him down. Heavy tears were flooding down his cheeks, and bloody spits were spattered all over the floor as I stared at his burning eyes. Slowly, I averted my eyes to his cruel stepmother and turned away from Taehyung with an aching chest.
I'm sorry, Taehyung-ah.
I gripped my fists and strolled out of the apartment in tears. Taehyung screamed for me in despair, so I closed my eyes to let the warm tears roll down my cheeks as I listened to his desperate calls and strolled down the stairs to escape the commotion. I halted in front of the building when I noticed it was raining heavily outside the building. Slowly, I turned to look at the staircase in tears. Parts of me wanted to run back to him- I won't leave him! Tightly gripping my first, I frantically dashing back towards the stair but halted in tears when my brain regained control of my body. Warm tears slid down my cheeks as I glared at the staircase in distress while clashing with my inner-self to ponder my actions.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, tearfully turning back toward the entrance and dashed into the pouring rain. I screamed in pain while running down the sidewalk as the freezing cold rain showered onto me. The thunder angrily rumbled above me as I sprinted as far as I could... away from the building. My heart is clawing my chest relentlessly to stop me from running away, but I can't submit to my pain! It felt like I was being stabbed by a dagger with every step I took away from Taehyung, but I refused to surrender and ran as far as I could.
"AH!" I slipped on the slippery pavement and tumbled hard onto the rough pavement. I whimpered in tears as the rain poured all over me and slowly got back onto my feet to find my palms bleeding heavily from the deep scratches. BOOM. The lighting tore the grieving sky apart, sending a surge of pain... blasting through my wounded heart. I gripped my chest and slowly knelt in the muddy puddle to sob in despair until the sky rumbled again.
I'm in pain. Appa...? What should I do? I don't know what to do! I want to run forward, but my heart is bleeding for him. Appa... Please help me! I need you right now! Please! Send me someone I can rely on! Why do you keep on messing up my life like this!? I'll marry the man you want me to see, so please stop this misery and send him my way! I lowered my face to pound my wounded chest in difficulty, but no matter how many times I thumped on it- the stressful discomfort wouldn't ease. It feels like someone is brutally stamping my heart repeatedly with a nail gun. Thud. Thud. Thud. The intense pain throbbed all over my nerves until my eyesight grew blurry, and it felt like my head was going to burst open from the immense pressure.
I sucked in my breath when a headlight suddenly illuminated through the foggy downpour... so I tearfully looked up at the car as the man stepped out of the car with an umbrella. CRACK. The sky lit up righting as I sat motionless in the brutal storm in tears. Seokjin slowly approached me in his long coat to hover the umbrella over my head and slowly crouched down to stare at my bloodshot eyes.
"I'll take you home," Seokjin whispered, placing out his hand to offer his help. My chest twisted in discomfort as I stared at his worried expression. A strong wind gusted against our bodies until the sky drummed dramatically over us, and the rain poured harder over the feeble umbrella... yet Seokjin firmly held it over my soaked body with a mournful expression.
Appa... is he the one? Shakily, I slowly placed my dirty hand in his clean palm. Seokjin warmly gripped my hand to draw me onto my feet as I kept my tearful eyes glued on his sad pupils. Is he the one? Appa... did you send him to me? This man? Is he the one? We stood staring at each other under the umbrella in the dangerous flickering rainstorm. My heart thumped in pain with every violent rumble over our heads.
"AH! Jiyoung!" Someone suddenly screamed from the side. I turned to find a silhouette of a person limping towards us through the rain. My heart stopped beating when the sky flickered brightly, and I found Taehyung rushing through the rain in tears. What is this? How did he escape!?
"Let's leave," Seokjin whispered, sorely turning to look at his younger brother when he suddenly tripped and collapsed onto the damp sidewalk. I stared at Taehyung's injured condition in shock as he struggled to get onto his feet. He desperately crawled forward and slowly got back up in tears. Our eyes met again. He halted under the rain to stare at me with his broken red eyes as I stood under the umbrella with Seokjin. My chest contracted intensely at the sight of Taehyung's torn expression. Appa... Why did you send two people? Why are you doing this to me!? Appa! This is unfair! I gripped my fists so hard- my fingernails dug into the scratched flesh of my palms until blood dripped from my hands. I can either... accept Seokjin's love and leave to keep myself warm from the rainstorm. Or I can run back to Taehyung... to suffer under the stinging bullet rain.
"Jiyoung... I'm sorry... I can't breathe- Baby- I'm so sorry for everything... Please don't leave me- Jiyoung, I love you," Taehyung pleaded as he stood hopelessly under the rain. Heavy tears were slipping down his cheeks. I pursed my lips in pain and turned back to look at Seokjin, who was staring at me with a composed expression. Slowly, he leaned forward to close the gap between us and gently pressed his warm lips against mine. I froze in place as he softly kissed me under the rain, causing my heart to swell with an unexplainable emotion. Seokjin placed his free hand under my jawline to deepen our kiss, so I unconsciously gripped his coat and slowly closed my eyes to let the flood of tears roll down my cheeks as I shakily panted against his face.
I might be lost right now and I don't know what to do... but I know I want one thing. I can feel it in my chest, and my body is burning for it. Love. Despite this heartbreaking tragedy... love is still there in me. In this cold rainstorm... even if my body is numbed from the cold and my heart is ripping itself apart... my soul knows what it wants. Love.
Him.
Tenderly... Seokjin drew his moist lips from mine to examine my flushed cheeks after warming me with his affection as I held onto his hand. I glanced at the umbrella he was holding over my head, finally averting my troubled gaze back to him in silence. The rain poured harder onto us as he shielded me from the brutal weather. And yet... my heart didn't race for him.
I swallowed in difficulty, slowly stepping back from him to stand under the cold storm. I glanced at my hands to find a glowing invisible red string connected to Taehyung. My heart... belongs to him. I sadly stared at Seokjin and slowly turned toward Taehyung, who was staring at me in tears as he hopelessly stood in the rain to wait for me. I took a step forward and slowly walked toward Taehyung, so he blinked and limped toward me. My heart is going crazy! I broke into a quick sprint when I lost my patience and bolted through the rain, slamming hard into Taehyung's solid body. Taehyung firmly wrapped his arms around my body as I gripped onto his soaked clothes in tears.
"I thought I- l-lost you," Taehyung sobbed as he gripped tightly onto my head. I cried in distress and was about to look up at him when- BANG. A powerful force suddenly sent us tumbling onto the ground. I gasped in shock as I fell backward in Taehyung's embrace. He quickly swung me over him- and fell hard onto the ground to cushion my body from the rough landing.
"Tae- Taehyung!?" I whispered in horror as he lay beneath me with a pained expression.
"Uh-" Taehyung tried to speak but screwed his face in distress as he struggled to sit, so I quickly pulled him upward with a terrified expression.
"What's the matter-" I whispered in fear when I noticed bright red blood seeping from underneath him as Taehyung shakily gripped my forearm. My heart stopped beating at the sight of his blood. Slowly... I drifted my eyes to my hands to find my fingers soaked in fresh blood. I glanced down at Taehyung's abdomen, but it was unharmed. The blood... it was dripping from his lower back.
"Uh- Jiyoung-" Taehyung seethed, shakily lifting his face to look at me in terror after realizing he was shot. I firmly held his body against mine as we sat hopelessly on the muddy pavement.
"You're hurt- What did they do-" I gasped, wildly turning in direction to find a police officer standing with a gun raised. He fired at Taehyung from the back? When he's unarmed?!
"Jiyoung- Look at me- Baby, look at me- p-please," Taehyung cried in distress as he gripped my hand. I sobbed and turned to hold his cheek as he stared at me with his bloodshot eyes.
"Don't talk- You're hurt-"
"I'm so sorry. Jiyoung- I'm terribly sorry for hurting you- I never meant to ruin your life- I'm sorry- please- uh..." Taehyung shakily whispered as he struggled to speak. I sat on the ground with the unbearable heartache as he desperately gripped my hand, so I bit my lower lips to hold back my pain but I couldn't- His words broke me.
"You stupid man..." I sobbed in distress as he weakly stared with his apologetic tearful eyes.
"M-Maybe this is- my punishment- for hurting you... Maybe this is- the only way to atone for my sins- for taking away your father- I won't complain- because- i-if this is the punishment then- I will... gladly accept it. I never deserved to live anyways... You're right- I'm a coward- hiding from my own responsibilities- so I don't deserve to live- and I'm sorry- baby- I'm so sorry for hurting you like this-" Taehyung shivered in tears, making me whimper in pain as he stuttered between his words. The rain was pouring hard, so I gripped tightly onto his cold body to shield him from the piercing rain droplets.
"Taehyung please... just stop talking!" I sobbed, lowering my head to lean my forehead against his as I gently rocked his body from side to side.
"I never deserve to live- I always wanted to die until- you appeared in my life... I'm sorry for causing you so much pain. Believe me... if I knew- if only I knew the truth earlier... I would have killed myself to prove my love for you-" Taehyung whimpered, slightly twitching in my arms as he struggled to stay conscious. I wailed at his words and repeatedly shook my head in pain.
"Stop it! You stupid man! Stop this nonsense!" I begged, tugging his face against my shoulder as he held onto my hand.
"I love you. Jiyoung, I love you," Taehyung whispered in exhaustion, so I sobbed and firmly cuddled his body. My body is shattering to hold his broken pieces together.
"I love you too," I cried as he slowly slumped against my body in the pouring rain. I could feel his body losing its energy, so I embraced him tightly to keep him warm and buried my soaked face against his wild hair as warm tears dripped from my cheeks.
"If there's another life... I hope we meet again...," Taehyung whispered, slowly closing his eyes.
"No- stay with me- I want you here with me- baby- I love you. Don't leave... Please don't leave me in this cruel place. Taehyung, I love you. Hang on to me... will you?" I cried in distress, desperately lowering my head to kiss his lips as he struggled to keep his eyes open.
"I'm sorry," Taehyung weakly responded for the last time, and he suddenly flopped against me. My heart thumped in panic at his sudden surrender.
"Taehyung? Tae- Wake up! What are you doing? H-Hey- Don't fool around! Taehyung!" I shakily released his head to stare at his pale expression as he heavily bled onto me. Taehyung didn't respond to my call, so I slapped his cheek lightly in tears. No matter how many I cried for him... he remained unresponsive.
"Taehyung! You can't do this to me! Baby?!" I screamed in pain with my face tilted toward the gloomy sky in distress as the cold droplet poured over us. Someone tried to tug my arm, but I refused to release Taehyung and fastened my clutch around his body because I didn't want to be separated from him. I shrieked and thrashed in horror as I was being dragged away from Taehyung until he collapsed lifelessly onto the cold ground. I wailed in distress, frantically reaching out for his hand- but was roughly yanked backward just as my fingertip grazed his.
"ARGH! NO! LET ME GO! TAEHYUNG- LET ME GO! DON'T TAKE HIM AWAY!" I screamed in agony as the person dragged me away from him. I twisted and turned my body in distress to free my weak body from their grip, but they refused to release me and hauled me away from Taehyung. I cried in horror when I turned to find the policemen... surrounding his lifeless body on the cold and damp ground as they hastily dragged me through the rain.
Fast Forward
I sat unblinkingly in the hushed room as people murmured around me with my eyes fixed on the flower wreath portrait decorated with pretty flowers. My heart was numb, and my mind was painfully vacant as I unblinkingly stared at his innocent crescent eyes in the photograph without budging an inch.
His bright boxy smile, wild fluffy hair, and adorable puppy eyes. He was grinning at me from the funeral picture as I sat in my traditional black hanbok inside the funeral home to mourn his death.
Before me... was a picture... of... Taehyung.
I lost him.
