Game Day

00:30, 15 May 2025

The next Saturday afternoon buzzed with the sounds of children shouting, parents cheering, and the rhythmic thud of soccer balls. The grass field was dotted with bright jerseys, and Charlotte—wearing a purple headband and the number 7 on her back—was zipping down the field with a determined look on her face. From the sidelines, Lucy clapped, trying not to look as nervous as she felt. Tim stood beside her, sunglasses pushed up onto his head, arms crossed but clearly engaged—his eyes never leaving Charlotte."She's good," he said, a proud smile tugging at his mouth."She's fast," Lucy added with a small grin. "Takes after her mom."Tim laughed. "No doubt."They exchanged a look—one of quiet understanding, shared pride, and the anxiety of what lay ahead. When the final whistle blew, Charlotte ran toward them, her cheeks flushed and her eyes sparkling."I scored a goal!" she yelled, beaming."You were amazing!" Lucy said, bending down to hug her. Tim knelt beside them."I saw the whole thing," he said. "That left-foot shot? Pro level."Charlotte giggled, bouncing on her feet. "Can we get ice cream?"Lucy looked to Tim. He gave a quick nod."I think that's a great idea."
