Chapter 16

CAMILA'S POV

My date with Lauren was at 3:00 and it was already 2:30 and I had no idea what to wear. Should I wear jeans, or were we going somewhere hot? What if I wear shorts and it's too cold? I finally settled with some light blue skinny jeans and a white shirt with ruffles. I put my hair in a side braid due to my lack of time, and quickly put on some make up. At exactly 3:00, I was at Lauren's house ready for our first date.

LAUREN'S POV

I opened the door and Camila stood there looking beautiful like always. "Are you ready for our first date?" I asked. "I can't wait what to see what your wild imagination has come up with this time...cuz you know you're a genius" Camila said with a hint of sarcasm. "I know" I said proudly pretending not to notice the sarcasm, "I get that a lot." "So where are we going?" Camila asked. "You'll have to wait and see, young one" I answered with a smile.

I led Camila to my dad's car, which he had let me borrow for the day. I had already put a picnic basket, my guitar, and a sweater for Camila in the trunk, because I knew she would forget to bring one.

We drove for about half an hour and I played my Paramore CD the whole ride. I sang along the whole way and I felt Camila looking at me.

CAMILA'S POV

Lauren listened to one of her Paramore CD's the whole ride. She said she wanted the new one, so I made a mental note to myself to get it for her. I watched her carefully as she sang every word to all the songs hitting all the notes perfectly. As I watched her I wondered to myself how anyone could be so perfect. Even the slightest things she did made me smile, like the way she scrunched up her nose, the way she wore her beanies, and the way she spoke.

After about half an hour, the car stopped. "We're here!" Lauren said. She hopped out of the car and walked around to open my door.  

She then went back to the trunk and pulled out a picnic basket and a blanket. "Follow me" Lauren said.

We walked along a sidewalk as I saw the ocean. We were then walking along the sand. After walking silently for a couple minutes, Lauren stopped and set the blanket on the sand next to a boulder. By the time we were there it was 3:45

"We're just in time" Lauren said happily. "For what?" I asked a bit confused. "The sun sets at around 5:00" she said. I love the way she pays attention to all of life's little details. We ate sandwiches and puffy Cheetos, because Lauren knew the crunchy ones annoyed me.

"You see that rock?" She said once we finished eating."Lauren, it's huge...you'd have to be blind to miss it" "my grandma used to bring me here every summer" she said, "that's why I brought you here, I have so many memories of this place." I expected her to cry but instead she looked happy. "You're not sad?" I asked. "I miss her, but we had so many good times that thinking about her actually makes me happy." She said calmly "the day she died, I came here and I sat on that rock and cried for hours" I looked at her sympathetically. "But then I looked at the dragon fly she and my grandpa had carved and I told myself that nothing lasts forever...that's why I draw a dragonfly on my wrist every morning"

I looked at the dragonfly on her wrist and then I looked at my own wrist. "Camila, you're beautiful, there's no need to hurt yourself. You mean the world to me." I looked at her as she spoke. "We're so alike...you're like my missing half.everyone is always saying that opposites attract, and it's true." For a second I thought she was going to break up with me, but then she continued, "but there's no need for us to be pulled together because we're already on same side and no one can ever change that." I looked at her as my tears threatened to spill. What she had just said sounded so poetic. "Promise me you'll stop hurting yourself, I love you too much to lose you" she said as she stared at me with her green eyes, the same eyes I fell for. "I promise" I said as she pulled me closer to her body and cuddled me to her side. "I love you, Lauren" I said as we looked out into the sunset.
