Epilog

It was weird for you to suddenly being home again. It was too quiet and the ringing from the explosions was still in your ears. You were sitting on the lid of your toilet and watched Connor messing around in your cabinets. You were both out of the clothing you were wearing through it all and had changed into something loose. For you it help on the pain that nothing was tight. Connor had borrowed some of James clothing as the only cloth you had was your own and a few jackets you used to give out to the deviants to hide their android clothing when they should find Jericho. It looked good on him but hell, an used potato sack would look on him.

Connor insisted to get you cleaned up. All you wanted was to sleep, but maybe it was a good idea to get a new bandage on your shoulder and some of the small pieces of glass out of your face. He started with your shoulder and helped you take off the baggy shirt you were wearing. You hissed when you reached your arms up over your head.

"Let me do it instead." Connor said. Points to him that his eyes remained on your shoulder and not your now exposed bra.

"I'm not totally helpless." You said with a smirk and adjusted and adjusted yourself on the toilet lit, so you were sat with the bad shoulder towards him.

"I know but I would appreciate it if you would let me take care of you." Connor said and sounded almost like a parent. You kind of liked that he cared so much. You sat in silent as we started to clean your wound with antibiotics. The ringing returned to your head again and you shook your head in frustration.

"It's too quiet here."

"It's a good quiet. It means that everything is over." He answered reassuring and you nodded. Something else popped into your mind and you frowned.

"Connor? What happened up there? When Markus was speaking. You seems... Not yourself for a moment." You said quietly and Connor stopped for a moment but continued to wrap the bandage around your shoulder and secured it with a piece of white tape.

"I know." He mumbled and shifted his attention to your face as he grabbed a tweezer.

"You were about to aim your gun at Markus?" It was more of a question than a statement. Because you didn't know what exactly he was about to do with that gun.

"I know... But it's all over. It's not going to happen again. She doesn't exist anymore." He said with a frown and started to remove the first tiny piece of glass from your skin. You hissed but gestured for him to continue.

"What is 'she'? Is she in your head? Someone who tells you to do things?" You asked curiously. You could feel that this was not something you learn in university.

"She was. Kind of." He hesitated.

"Please tell me Connor. I want to understand." You begged him and let your hand rest on his knee, as he was sat across from you. He finally got one of the pieces out at with a small click sound, let it drop down in the sink.

"Her...Her name was Amanda. She was... a part of my program. Something that was created by Cyperlife and but in my system. She was still a BETA and was tested on me. She was created to keep me from deviating. I had to report back to her and reboot after talking to her. It was CyperLife's way to keep my mind clear from... Thoughts." He explained. It all sounded surreal and way more advanced than anything you had ever worked with.

"But she couldn't." You said calmly and stroke his cheek. He smiled and sighed happily.

"Lucky for us, she was still a BETA."

"Or maybe you wanted it enough. To be alive, I mean. And then she couldn't stop you." You shrugged and immediately regretted it. The pain made you hiss and close your eyes for a moment. The adrenaline from earlier had really help you to not noticed it at all, but it still hurt like hell. Connor rose from his chair to find you some pain killers and some water. While you were drinking he continued to explain.

"You could say that you might have replaced Amanda in my head. In fact... When we were standing up there... On the Platform? I could hear your voice through my system. I have never been able to hear anyone while going through the procedure before." He grabbed both your hands and intertwined your fingers.

"That makes me special?" You asked and he looked up from your hands and he let out a lovely laugh.

"That might make you 'the one' as you humans say." He said biding his lips like the charmer he was. You leaned forward to place a light kiss on his nose.

"You are so cheesy." You teased.

"Get used to it, my love." He simply answered and this time it was his turn to lean forward to place a longingly kiss on your lips.
