dialing sierra's number at a red light, jack connects his phone to the bluetooth and listens to the trill of the phone. it rings and rings, and jack worries that she's not going to answer. they haven't spent a lot of time together lately because sierra got extremely busy with school and the program, and jack started to miss her. he thinks he gota glimpse into how she feels when he's away, and he feels guilty.

"hello?" her angelic voice says on the other line. jack can't help the smile that comes to his face when he hears her voice. they haven't even had time for phone calls, and if they do they're short and she's usually in the middle of doing something.

"hi, sierra," he says.

sierra giggles. "hi, jack. whats up, babe?" she asks. it's quiet in the background and jack is grateful. lately it's been a lot of people in the back, all trying to get her attention and it's extremely loud and annoying for him to hear. he's glad she's gotten a moment of silence for herself.

"you busy tonight?" he asks, even though he already knows. she told him last week that on thursday that she'd finally be free, until the next week when she's going to inevitably be swamped with work and school.

"no, and i'm actually about to leave to go home," she says.

"bet. i'll pick you up in an hour?" he asks. he can practically hear the smile in her voice when she responds with 'okay'. "see you soon, baby." jack says.

"alright. bye jack," they hang up and the smile doesn't leave his face. he's been bored and lonely without her, and being in the studio every single day is getting boring when he doesn't have much to write about, mostly because he has no inspiration. he hasn't gone out much, not because he can't go anywhere without sierra, but because he'd rather go with sierra.

he's still been hanging out with his friends, but it's hard to really enjoy the moment when he's itching to call her every second because it's been awhile.

-

sierra falls face first onto her bed with a sigh. mentally and physically, she's exhausted. but the fact that she only has two and a half months left before she graduated college is enough to keep her going—not like she'd even think about seriously giving up.

she honestly just wants to sleep for the rest of the night, but she misses jack and wants to see him without making them stay in. it's been a long time since they've gone out on a date that didn't involve people—if you count that day she cried to him in the mall as a date.

her phone rings beside her on the bed, and she rolls over to pick it up. she expects it to be jack, and is shocked when she sees the name cole flashing across the screen. sierra licks her lips and hesitantly answers the phone, putting it on speaker. "hello?"

"whats up, sierra? haven't heard from you in awhile," he says casually, like they talk all of the time. sierra makes a face and runs a hand over her face.

"it's not like we talk everyday, cole. i'm good, though. yourself?" she questions politely. it's weird for him to call this much. every time cole and sierra used to talk, it was in presence of jack and simply that. she considered them to be friends, but never sought each other out without jack being the middle man. for him to hit her up three times in the span of a month, is unsettling, almost.

"i'm alright. ive just been thinking about the conversation we had on valentine's day..." he says trailing off. sierra furrows her eyebrows, unsure of what he's talking about. she knows that he knows that her and jack spent valentine's day together in the end. "i just want to know what if you thought about it?" he says, but it's more of a question.

"thought about what?"

cole lets out a bitter laugh. "for real? you really messing with jack like that?" he asks. when cole developed this crush on her, she couldn't comprehend. she was single for six months, and when she's trying to work things out, he wants to randomly act like this?

"um, yes, cole! since when did you even fuck with me like that?" she asks.

"you dating him, or what?" cole asks, completely ignoring her question. sierra makes a face before answering.

"no, but—then youre single and you should come fuck with me," cole interrupts. sierra can't help but laugh at his words.

"bro, you can't be serious right now! cole, you don't even like me like that, and you know it. whoever is feeding you these ideas that we should be together needs to stop, because honestly you're just my homie. hate to say it but you need to hear it," sierra says. "and don't even try to tell me differently, because you had six months to shoot your shot, and didn't. so get back in line with the rest of them." she adds.

"well, i was dating taylor."

"didnt you cheat on her?" she questions. cole is quiet, which confirms her suspicions. "yeah, so that obviously never stopped you. you jealous of jack, or something?" she asks, raising her eyebrows.

"fuck no. you're just fine, can you blame me?" cole questions.

"thanks, cole. but this is not working in your favor. we are always going to be friends, nothing more. so please dead any ideas of me being your "girl", or whatever, because it's not happening," sierra says with such finality that cole sighs in defeat and says okay.

"alright, sierra. enjoy the rest of your night," he says and then hangs up. sierra lets out a short laugh, not sure that anything that just transpired was actually real.

rolling off of her bed, sierra shakes her head and decides to start getting ready for her night out with jack.

she quickly showers, then gets out and sighs as she looks at her closet, unsure of what to wear. she wants to be comfortable, but she doesn't even know where they're going.

sierra decided on a pair of blue and a matching red tanktop with a blue stripe across the chest. she doesn't bother putting a bra on, and changes into the sweats. she's grateful for the fact that she decided to do her hair the other day, and takes it out of the ponytail she put it for the shower and rakes her fingers through it.

checking the time, sierra rushes into the bathroom to do some light makeup: concealer, bronzer, and lashes. she puts on clear lipgloss and finishes just as a few knocks sound on her door.

her mind feels frantic as she runs around her house to answer the door, but she's put at ease when she looks through the peephole and sees the man of the hour. sierra pulls open the door with a big smile on her face and jack returns it. "hi," she says shyly.

"hi," jack says. sierra moves out of the way and lets him in, and he immediately wraps his arms around her and kicks the door closed. jack hugs her tightly and slightly lifts her off of the ground. "i missed you." jack admits, putting his hand underneath her shirt and rubbing her back.

sierra sighs and holds him tighter. "i missed you too," she replies. jack pulls away to look at her, and starts to lean in but she stops him. "i have lip gloss on." she says.

he sucks his teeth and rolls his eyes. "i don't give a damn about lip gloss, come here," jack says, putting his lips on hers. she puts her hands on the side of his face as they move their lips in sync.

they pull apart, and sierra wipes off the shine on his lips with a small smile on her face. "damn, girl. i really missed you," jack says, kissing her again. "but you ready to go? i got reservations." he says.

sierra looks at him with wide eyes. "reservations? do i need to change?" she asks, slightly panicking.

jack gently strokes her cheek with the back of her hand. "nah, you're good, baby," he says. sierra quickly kisses him and the two of them walk back into her bedroom.

he takes a seat at the foot of the bed while sierra finishes getting ready, putting on white air maxes and a few pieces of jewelry, along with a matching zip up jacket. sierra grabs her purse and then stands in front of jack and says, "i'm ready."

jack puts his hands on the back of her thighs and looks up at her with a small smile. "what?" she asks, running her hands through his hair.

he pulls her closer and sierra puts her hands on his shoulders. jack kisses the inside of her wrist before saying, "i just missed you, man. i don't even want to leave like that anymore."

"nooo, cmon, we haven't gone out just us in awhile," sierra whines. jack lets out a light laugh and nods, standing up and encircling his arms around her waist. sierra places her hands flat on his chest and peers up at him through her lashes.

"keep looking at me like that, and we not making it to those reservations," jack states with raised eyebrows. she only smirks and stands on her tiptoes to place a quick kiss on his lips, and then pulls out of his arms to walk out of her room. jack slaps her ass as she walks away from him, and she makes a sound of disapproval, but they both know she likes it.

-

sierra cant help herself but laugh at jack dropping rice with the chopsticks for the fourth time in a row. he looks over at her with a really? expression. "just ask for a fork," sierra says, picking up noodles without an issue.

"that's embarrassing," he says, shaking his head.

"this is worse. trust me," sierra says. jack rolls his eyes, but gets the attention of a waiter and asks for a fork. sierra notices the waitress hold back a smile, and she can't help but start laughing again. "you're so cute." she sighs.

"stop," jack says, his cheeks reddening. it only makes sierra mess with him more, and he threatens to leave her alone in the restaurant.

"you're such a baby," sierra jokes. jack rolls his eyes, and the waitress comes back with a fork for jack. he thanks her, and she smirks at sierra before walking away. "see? i told you it's easier." sierra comments as she shovels food in his mouth.

jack flips her off, and sierra blows him a kiss. she watches him eat more food in a few minutes than in their entire time at the restaurant, and smirks to herself. at least he tried to assimilate and use the chopsticks. it's the effort that counts.

sierra takes one more bite of her pad thai before dropping her chopsticks onto her plate and leaning back, her stomach properly full for the first time in a few days. jack looks up from his plate and notices her patting her stomach. he smiles at her and nods vaguely at her midsection. "good?" he asks.

sierra gives him a thumbs up and takes a drink of water. "i can't tell if it's good, or if i haven't eaten enough today," she jokes.

"sierra..." jack says. she waves him off and jack sucks his teeth. "you need to eat." he states.

"i know, ive just been busy and i forget," she says with a shrug. jack shakes his head and points at her food. "seriously, i'm full. i'm taking it home." she says. he looks at her for s best longer and goes back to his food, mumbling to himself. "speak up."

"nah," he says, a small smile on his face. sierra gently kicks him underneath the table, but not hard enough to make the pain last. "chill, si." he says, his eyes widening at his slip. he hasn't called her "si" since that night he called her last month because he didn't want to potentially cross a line.

he looks at her to see if there's any indication that he messed up, or disdain on her face, but he's glad when he finds her face to he unchanged and no sign of annoyance. "relax, that didnt even hurt," sierra says.

"yes it did."

"you want me to kiss it better?" she asks sarcastically with an eye roll.

"i know what you could kiss," jack replies.

"shut up," she says with a smile on her face. jack returns it and the two of them finish the rest of what they can, and then jack asks for the check. they pay and then they leave, hand in hand.

"thanks for coming out with me tonight," he says, looking down at her.

"why wouldnt i have?" she asks, bringing his hand up to her lips and kissing the back of it. jack opens his mouth to respond, but the action throws him off and makes him stutter. sierra looks up at him with a smirk. "left that ass speechless." she teases.

jacks cheeks turn a deep shade of pink, and sierra sticks her tongue out at him. they reach the car and jack pulls her door open and helps her into the car. he walks around to his side and clears his throat before he starts the car. "to answer your question, i thought you might've wanted to stay in because you've been busy," he says, looking to the left to look at her.

sierra shakes her head and learns forward to kiss him. jack puts his hand on her side and he gets that overwhelming feeling that he got a few weeks ago. it expands the width of his chest and the length of his body, taking over his entire being and making it hard to function.

pulling away from sierra abruptly, jack leans back against the seat as he catches his breath. sierra looks at him with a worried expression. "you good?" she asks, touching his arm.

jack shakes his head and swallows the lump in his throat. there will never be a perfect moment to talk to her about this, and he's tired of waiting. "look, sierra. i'm really glad that we're trying again, and i'm grateful that you've given me another chance. the way i feel about you... i can't even begin to describe it adequately. i want you to be mine again, i don't want what we used to have—i want something bigger and better," he rambled, cracking his knuckles.

sierra states at him in silence, her chest pounding. she wants another chance with jack, no questions asked. it may seem soon, to jump back into a relationship you barely got out of, but there are risks she's willing to take for jack.

"if you not ready, that's fine," jack says quickly, once sierra still hasn't responded.

sierra sighs and grabs onto his hand. "i really want to do this again with you, i do. but... i don't know..." she mutters. there's nothing holding her back but herself, and the fear of ending up like last time.

jack squeezes her hand and looks up at her. "talk to me, sierra," he says gently. she sighs again and drops her head.

"i just don't want to end up like last time, seriously. and i know we've talked about it before, but it's just weighing on me every time we talk about getting serious again. i want that again with you, but i'm just scared. i see the changes in you, and i apologize for acting crazy about valentine's day, by the way. but i just don't want to be put through that again," she says.

jack bites his bottom lip and nods slowly. "i can't say how we'll end up, but i can make a conscious effort to do and be better, i can promise that," he says honestly.

blowing out a breath, sierra looks up to meet his eyes, the ones that still make her feel weak and that can make her break so easily, like right now. sierra places her hand on the side of his cheek and gives him a small smile. "alright," she says finally.

jacks eyebrows shoot up on his forehead. "for real?" sierra nods. "wait, i want to ask you properly: will you be my girlfriend—again?" he asks.

she laughs and nods. "yes, i'll be your girl again," jack smiles and closes the gap between them. there's only one thing left for him to do.
