Chapter 3: Jal

I was in my room reading when I suddenly hear glass breaking downstairs, that is quickly followed by shouting. I quickly get off my bed and go downstairs where I see my mum and dad in the living room throwing things and screaming at each other. "Why are they throwing things?" Malakai asks from behind me, I turn around just now realizing he was there. He looks scared. And if I'm being honest I'm a little scared as well. My parents are always fighting but it has never gotten physical and now they're throwing vases and books everywhere while screaming. "I don't know bud, but how about we go upstairs, yeah?" I ask him and he nods, so I take his hand and take him to my room.

When we get in there I close the door behind me and lock it. I turn to Kai and bend to his level, "How about we play a game?" I ask him with a small smile on my face, while hoping that I can get him to forget about what's happening downstairs. He nods with a big smile. "You wanna pick what game while I put on music, yeah?" I ask him and he nods again while walking over to a shelf I keep my board games at. I walk over to my record player and grab a vinyl, once I place the vinyl on the player I put the little thing on on the player and 'Another One Bites the Dust' starts to play.

I bop my head and turn back to Kai who is setting up the game on the middle of my room. Twister, he picked Twister. I smile and we start playing.

"Right foot, blue." Kai tells me. I try to move my foot but I fall. Kai bursts out laughing while celebrating his win, dancing to the music. "Dancing queen!" He sings or more like yells the lyrics and I laugh at him while joining. I'm pretty sure he forgot all about what was happening downstairs. It's been going on for an hour already, If I'm being honest I'm scared.

I look at the clock on my wall and it shows that it's 9:30 pm. I decide that it's time to head to bed so I turn the music down a little and look at Kai. "Alright kiddo, it's time for bed, you can sleep in here if you want." I tell him "Can I?" He asks me, I nod "Of course you can." He lunges forward and wraps his arms around my torso hugging me "Thank you Xanny" he says while looking up at me , I look at him and smile "You're welcome Kai."

I let him sleep on my bed and I slept on the floor. I would sleep with him but that kid kicks too much. Since we were both in our pjs already we just went to sleep right away.

The next morning I got up and got dressed, when I woke Kai up he went to his room to get ready for school as well. Going downstairs I looked into the living room and saw glass everywhere, mum and dad were no where in sight, so I assumed they went to bed when they finished fighting.

Kai came downstairs and was about to walk over to the living room but I stopped him. "Alright let's get you to school." I told him while grabbing my backpack off the coatrack and pushing him out the door. While walking Kai to school we talked and I could tell he wanted to know what happened last night with mum and dad but he avoided the subject. After walking him to school I barely made it to college on time.

After college I was with Jal at Tony's, Jal wanted to take me and Michelle shopping with her so we could help her find a dress for her music competition or something. But while Jal and I sit on the couch at one end, Michelle and Tony are at the other end, snogging.

"Michelle?" Jal says.

"Hm?" Michelle asks still kissing Tony.

"Do you have to do that?"

"What?" Michelle asks confused.

"Suck Tony's face off in public all the time."

"She loves me. Yeah, babe?" Tony says

"Yeah." Michelle says and they start kissing again.

"We're supposed to be going shopping." Jal says impatiently and annoyed.

"Michelle." She says once Michelle doesn't answer her.

Tony whispers something in Chelle's ear and they stop kissing. "We're, we're just gonna nip upstairs." She says "I need to go shopping." Jal tells her. "What for?" Tony asks "A dress for Jal's music competition." I tell him. "This won't take long." Michelle says while getting up and leaving the room, Tony gives us a look and follows after Michelle.

Jal watched them leave, "Jesus, are the gonna?" She asks no one in particular but Effy makes a motion with her hand and face answering Jal's question. Jal rolls her eyes andgets up while saying "Fuck this. Xandria let's go." She tells me and I get up as well with her grabbing my bag and walk out with her.

When Jal opens the door Sid is standing there. Jal ends making him come with us.

When we get to the store Jal grabs a few dresses and goes to try them on. Sid stays by her dressing room but I walk off looking around. I didn't notice when she made Sid go in and help her but then I heard groaning and look over to where Sid was only to see that he is no longer there. "Oh Christ, let me get a hold of it." I hear Jal say in the dressing room, people in the shop are looking over confused probably thinking they are shagging. "Oh that's it, oh that's it." I hear Sid say and I look at the curtains with a face. Why do they make it sound like they're shagging? I ask myself. Sid comes out and gives one of the dresses back to the worker. A lady who heard walked past him and gave him a disgusted look and said something to him.

After Jal found a dress we left and went to a couple more places before leaving the shopping centre and went home.

When I made it home I walked up to the front door, but as soon as I open it I hear shouting but it's worse then it was yesterday and a vase is thrown at door. Luckily I close it fast enough to avoid getting hit by the vase. My eyes are wide as fuck and I'm just hoping that Kai isn't in the house. I get a walki- talki out of my backpack, "Kai the Kite, do you copy? Over." I say into the mic.

"Yes I copy. Over." He says.

"Are you at home? Over."

"No, I'm at Kyle's. Over."

"Alright, well if you can stay the night there, okay? Over."

"Okay. Over."

"Alright I love you and be safe. Over and out."

"Love you Xanny. Over and out."

I put the walki back in my bag and start walking to Tony's.

When I get there I ring the doorbell and Tony answers, "Oh, hey Xan." He says to me "Hi Tony." I say kind of quietly

"Are you alright?"

"Uh, yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I tell him

"It's just mum and dad, they're fighting and when I was going to walk into the house a vase came flying at the door." I add quietly.

He doesn't say anything but just grabs my arm and pulls me inside. "You're staying here tonight." He tells me and I just nod. Tony may be an arse but he is a good friend when I need him. He takes me to his room not saying anything. "Oh and by the way, we are going to Jal's dad club tonight so you are going to have to borrow something of Effy's." he says to me as we enter his room. "Alright" I say and walk to Effy's room, I knock and she opens it. When she notices it's me she smiles. "Hey Eff, do you think I can borrow some clothes?" I ask her and she nods and let's me in. Me and Effy have been wearing each other's clothes since me and Tony became friends so it's not really a big deal.

I go to her closet and take out a plaid shirt and skirt. Looking at the clothes longer I notice they aren't Effy's clothes but they're mine. "Effy are these my clothes?" I ask turning around to her, she just smiles and continues doing her whatever she was doing. I go to the bathroom and change out of my old clothes into the new ones. Once I'm done I go back to Tony's room and put my old clothes on a chair he has.

After a little while we leave and go to the club, we meet with all the other boys along the way and we all walk together.

When we finally made it to the club the bouncer wouldn't let us in. Chris gave the man a fake ID but he didn't believe it, neither would I because he used the worst fake mustache ever in it. "Anyway, shall we go in?" Tony asks a little innocently. I've been quite the whole way and I've noticed that Tony has been glancing at me a few times to make sure I'm alright.

"Yup." "Might as well."

All the boys try to walk in and Tony grabs my hand to bring me with him, but the bouncer stops us again. He grabs Chris' shirt and pulls him to eye level and says "Fuck off before I shove this so far up your arse, your teeth come out of your eyeballs, all right?" The look of terror is in Chris' eyes and he just says okay. When he lets go Tony decides to try to get us in. "Look, I just don't want to disappoint my colleague Dr. Makabi, he's visiting from Senegal." He says "Katinga" Anwar says "Gotta warn you, he's got some serious voodoo shit going on." Tony tells the man.

The bouncer suddenly pulls out a cross and snake "You mean like this?" He asks, everyone steps back but I just look at the snake and take a step closer with a smile "That was pretty cool." I say in a whisper, my voice dry from not talking. Tony grabs me and pulls me back to where he is while the others are freaking out, "Yeah, like that, bit more subtle." He tells him

"Fuck off." The bouncer says to him.

Jal ends up saving us by telling the bouncer, Danny, that her dad will put us on the list. We all notice what Jal is wearing, a black low cut dress that shows her boobs. "Jal, is that you in there?" Anwar asks her, looking at her boobs.

When we get in all the boys are starting at Jal's boobs, even Maxxie, also me. Jal noticed our stars and rolls her eyes, "For Christ's sake, stop looking at them." She tells us. "Sorry Jal, they're a bit, well they're out aren't they?" Maxxie tells her

"You're gay for Christ sakes." She says to him

"Yeah. I mean, yeah, of course." He says glancing at me for a second then looking down.

"And you're supposed to respect women's bodies Muslim boy." She tells Anwar

"I'm respecting, believe me, I'm respecting." He says.

"And you, I know your Bi but quit looking at them." She says to me

"Right. Sorry Jal." I say to her while shaking my head and looking down.

"Are those, I mean what's keeping it all up? Is that-" Chris asks her while trying to touch one of her boobs. Jal slaps his hand away "Don't touch." She tells him now getting annoyed. "I wanna touch. Honestly I will die if I don't touch." He says. "So who's buying us a drink?" Michelle asks the boys. All of them but Tony start saying they will and Jal leaves to take a wee.

I notice Tony leave and Michelle looks upset, I don't say anything and just leave it all alone.

Later on I notice that Tony is hanging out with Abagail. Although it looks it little more like flirting, which I wouldn't doubt.

I go to talk to Maxxie and Anwar for the rest of the night. Every once and a while Chris would come by and talk to us as well as taking a sip of my beer.

At the end of the night apparently Mad Twatter smashed Jal's clarinet for revenge on Sid and Jal's brothers and Donald went to beat them down but ended up in the hospital.

At the moment I am in the hospital with Jal and Michelle. The three boys are on hospital beds with broken legs and arms. "We caught those blood claat scum easy man, easy." Ace says "We got to jack them, we'll chief 'em up." Lyndon says. "That's when they go all Hong Kung-Fui." Ace says. After a while Ace asks for a kiss from Michelle, so she gives him one. I was glad they ask me for one.

After a little while Michelle went home and I went back to Tony's. Once I got there I went to Tony's room and got ready for bed, he was already asleep so I was just gonna sleep on the floor. "Xan, you know you can sleep in the bed, right?" He asks while sitting up. I shake my head "No, it's okay I'll be fine on the floor." I tell him.

He rolls his eyes, "Xan if you don't get up here in three seconds I'm throwing you out the window."

"Jeez, Tony, okay, okay." I say and go up on the bed. Tony moves to make room for me. He sleeps on the left side and I sleep on the right, just like when we were little and had sleepovers.
