Chapter 14

I went over our plan one more time in my head. This mission had to go flawlessly or else we would not only proof the Narumi squad we were incapable but it would affect all 100 of our soldiers currently in the city. The target is a vampire noble who frequently visits a park at the exact same time everyday, Yoichi and Shinya would shoot the noble. If they get a lucky shot the only vampires we had to worry about were the remaining foot soldier who would be easy enough to kill."The mission starts in six minutes, be ready." Narumi announces. I roll my shoulders, trying to get the tension out of my strained muscles. "You ready?" Shinoa asks me. I look at her, she seems confident that we can pull this off which reassures me somewhat. "I'm fine, a bit nervous is all I guess. The last noble we fought almost wiped the floor with us." I say humorlessly as Crowley enters my mind again and how he easily could have killed us all if given the time. It felt like he had been toying with us. A hand rested on my shoulder, it was Yu. "Don't worry, if Yoichi doesn't kill him we will" he said confidently. I smile up at him, remembering how Yu had turned into this deadly monster to protect the ones he loved. "Get ready" Narumi's voice came from behind. Only a second later an explosion occurs. "Now!" Narumi shouts, we all exit the building and run to the park. Once in the park I realize that the snipers had missed the noble. But they were now picking out the foot soldiers instead, doing so effectively. The noble on the other hand was coming towards us, sword in hand and top hat on his head. I follow my instructions and wait until the opportunity is presented. Yu attacks, then Kimizuki and Shinoa. Narumi takes a swing at the vampire too but gets blocked by the noble's sword. I grit my teeth and lunge at the vampire from behind together with Toro and Rika, we pierce the vampire, stunning him long enough for Shusaku to trap him around the wrists with his chains. However before Yu or Narumi can deal the last blow the noble cuts of his own arm, freeing himself from his restraints. "Everyone maintain formation and we'll take him on as a unit." Narumi instructs us. I grip my staff tighter, ready to attack."Interesting, you must be the life stock that Krul Tepes was so annoyed by lately. You don't seem so dangerous." The noble says, not seeming worried at all that he is missing a arm, or that he is fighting two whole squads by himself."We'll attack together." Narumi murmurs. But before we can do so Kimizuki stops us."Hold on. We can't keep this formation and stopping him from escaping. We need to lure him close enough to surround him." Kimizuki takes a few steps forward, stopping next to the noble's sliced off arm still lying motionless on the ground. He points his blade to the vampire when he speaks."You monsters can reattach your limbs, but can you grow new ones? Let's find out" he says, and drives his blade into the arm. The vampire lowers his blade, "You are making a mistake human. Don't make me angry." He says, venom lacing his voice."It's your precious arm, right? Beg for it if you want it back." Kimizuki prods some more with his blade.The noble looks ready to kill us, "Insufferable livestock, I'll kill everyone of you!" He shouts in anger and charges at us."Everyone get ready!" Shinoa informs us. I ready my double bladed staff and slam it with as much force I can muster into the ground, a wave of power is released, slowing the noble down slightly as he blocks my attack. But the smoke it caused did what is was supposed to do because the bloodsucker wasn't expecting to see Shinya and Yoichi who were now aiming and shooting their weapons at him. The vampire was forced to stop his charge entirely to block their attacks, giving Yu enough time to run up behind the vampire and attack. The vampire falls down to his knees, cursing, "Damn you measly pathetic humans." Narumi tells Yayoi to finish it off, she complies and swings her sword at the wounded noble. But he catches her blade and throws her to the side. "I will not be killed by livestock" he grumbles.I gasp as I see the vampire standing up again, holding Yayoi's sword in his hand, readying himself to strike. We rush forward but we were too slow, the vampire strikes. But not at Yayoi, instead he brings the sword to himself, ending his own life.I'm stunned, never before had I seen a vampire take his own life, much less a noble. Everyone seemed to be in shock.

Shinoa was the one to break the silence, "You did it Yu! Nice job" she compliments him. Kimizuki strolls over, looking slightly annoyed, "Don't forget that I was the one who provoked him." Yu turns to face Kimizuki, "Yeah you are really good at annoying people". I laugh.
