The three teen soon found themselves at a small restaurant by one of the main streets.
It was already dark when the they arrived at the diner, stomachs churning with starvation as the delicious aroma of the freshly made fish cake filled their nostrils.
The street beside them was busy, chattering people loudly passing by them as they ate in silence.
"Hey. I heard you cursed out Seongjun, protected Yeorin and threw a chair too." Yeongdong started a conversation, making the couple look at him with raised their eyebrows.
"Yeah, he did." Yeorin nodded, her mouth full with the delicious fish cake she craved for weeks.
"Baby, slow down." Gyujin chuckled at the sight of her cheeks puffed out, the turned to the boy in front of him. "So what?"
"Weren't you scared? He's going to be more cruel to you two now." Yeongdong stated, which made Gyujin look up with an unbothered face.
"You put up with him, so he keeps giving you shit." Gyujin said.
Yeorin sensed how annoyed he was just by speaking about the bully, so she placed her hand over his knees, trying to keep him calm as best as she could.
"You're incredible." Yeongdong sighed, biting into his fish cake.
Yeorin nodded along his words, smiling at her boyfriend proudly. Gyujin noticed her stare, he blushed even more, hiding his shyness from her.
"You pack a punch too." Gyujin averted his eyes from her to Yeongdong.
"Wait, when did that happen?" Yeorin asked, looking between the boys with a confused expression.
"Not long ago. Don't worry about it." Gyujin took a hold of her hand, squeezing it reassuringly.
She squinted at him playfully. She didn't like the idea of his getting hurt, but if he says don't worry about it, she'll trust his words.
"About that....." Yeongdong shamefully lowered his head, looking at his food. "I'm sorry. I-..."
"It's fine." Gyujin cut his apology off dismissively.
"No one understands you better than I do." Yeorin let her eyes wander to her boyfriend's.
She understood them both. She really did. Aside from the fact that Seongjun publicly humiliated her numerous times, it was a well known fact that her ex-best friend started picking on her too.
So, even if they didn't understand her pain that Seongjun brought her, they understood the pain Nayeon brought her. Because the two was very different kind of pain.
"Thanks, Gyujin." Yeongdong said softly.
Yeorin looked at him with empathy in her eyes, then back at her boyfriend when he started speaking.
"What I'm saying is, if you're frustrated or annoyed, punch them or curse at them. Don't just sit there. Do something." Gyujin elaborated, earning a hesitant look from Yeorin.
"Was I..... supposed to do that too?" She asked, voice small and frail.
Gyujin saw how sad and regretful look behind her big innocent eyes, making his heart churn in his chest.
He hated when she felt like this. So helpless and afraid of everything. These times, he just wished he could lock her in his room and keep her away from the danger the world could bring.
Letting out a sigh of guilt, he placed a hand on hers.
"Your situation was very different." He said gently, stroking her hand with his thumb affectionately.
"Do you think I could do it?" Yeongdong asked, breaking the heavy silence around them.
Before Gyujin could answer, a sudden yell echoed through the busy street, gathering all three's attention.
"You son of a bitch!" Someone yelled.
"Street fight." Yeorin said, leaping up from her seat to take a closer look.
As much as she hated violence, she lived for dramas like this. It's weird, but these kind of conflicts always captivate her attention so quickly and effortlessly.
She walked closer and closer, trying to see the commotion.
Gyujin was surprised to see her jump up from her seat so fast, just to watch a street fight, yet he still followed her, wanting to keep her safe and close.
A group of people suddenly ran past them, scaring the three teens as they joined the fight.
They had no idea why they were fighting, but more and more people started joining, making the crowd around them grow bigger.
Yeorin was watching intently as the fight grew bigger, and felt an arm wrap around her waist. She didn't have to look to know who it was, leading her to lean closer into his body.
"A gun!" Someone yelled over the loudness of the fight, startling everyone, including Yeorin.
A tall figure walked into the fight, holding a gun in his hands, a cap on his head, hiding his face but Yeorin caught a small glimpse of him.
He looked vaguely familiar.
The man didn't waste time, he started firing the gun, although it had plastic bullets inside, he did manage to break up the fight momentarily.
He fired the gun over and over, not once missing his target as he continued shooting.
Gyujin watched with a certain glint in his eyes, while holding onto Yeorin in case they had to move away quickly.
But he was fascinated how the man used that gun so easily. He wanted to do that. He wanted to feel the power that simple object could bring him if he had it in his hands. He wanted to feel the fear it would bring as his bullies lay beneath him.
He wanted to feel powerful.
He watched the man, basically destroying the people participating in the fight, before the man disappeared, hiding in the crowd.
He looked around frantically, keeping a tight grip on Yeorin, who clung to his side in fear.
Out of nowhere, the gun appeared very closely to his face, leading him to look to the side, only to see the man right next to him.
Out of protectiveness, Gyujin pushed Yeorin away from the man, pushing her to his other side, where she was further away from the weapon.
The man smirked seeing this, almost like he was testing the younger.
Yeorin flinched as the shooting noise came rather closely to her, hiding her face in Gyujin's chest, who welcomed her happily.
The man walked in a circle around the crowd, shooting the guys in the middle, keeping a safe distance.
It didn't take long before the fight completely broke up, the fighting guys all backed away pathetically, leaving the man to change his cartridge.
"How dare you neighbourhood punks cause all this trouble?" The man scolded them all.
"Hey, who the fuck are you? Huh?" A guy flipped out his butterfly knife.
"Me?" The man looked to the side and made eye contact with Yeorin, who gasped with realisation.
"I'm Moon Baek."
