Bonus Chapter 2
05:52, 15 March 2025The hospital room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the monitors and the rhythmic breaths of Wonwoo and Areum. It had been a long, exhausting labor, but after hours of pain, sweat, and tears, Areum finally held their daughter in her arms.
She was perfect.
Tiny fingers curled around Areum's pinky, her little chest rising and falling as she slept peacefully against her mother.
Wonwoo sat beside them, eyes fixated on their daughter like he was afraid she'd disappear if he blinked. His hand rested gently on her back, his thumb rubbing soft circles against her onesie.
"She's so beautiful," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
Areum couldn't take her eyes off their baby. "She really is."
Wonwoo leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Areum's temple. "You did so well."
She let out a tired laugh. "Tell that to my entire body."
He chuckled, but his eyes shimmered with admiration. "I mean it. I've never seen anyone as strong as you."
Areum looked up at him, her heart swelling with love. "We did this together."
The baby stirred slightly, her tiny mouth opening in a yawn before settling again. Wonwoo's breath hitched.
"She's really here," he murmured, still in awe. "We're parents."
Areum rested her head against his shoulder. "Yeah... we are."
At that moment, nothing else mattered. Not the exhaustion, not the long road ahead, just the three of them. Their little family.
Five years later, laughter echoed through their small but cozy home as tiny feet ran across the wooden floors.
"Daddy, catch me!"
Wonwoo groaned dramatically. "Oh, no! She's too fast!"
Giggling, their five year old daughter, Hana, dodged around the couch, her long, dark hair bouncing with each step. Areum, watching from the kitchen, shook her head with an amused smile.
"Wonwoo, if you let her win again, she's going to think she's invincible."
"She is invincible," he said, scooping Hana up and spinning her in the air. She squealed with delight.
"Mommy! Save me!" Hana called, laughing.
Areum wiped her hand on a towel before walking over. "Hmm, should I? Or should I join the forces with daddy?"
Hana gasped. "No! You're supposed to be on my team!"
Wonwoo smirked. "Too late. You're outnumbered."
He pulled Areum for a quick kiss, making Hana groan in disgust. "Eww! That's so gross!"
Areum laughed, taking Hana from his arms and pressing a kiss to her cheek. "Better?"
Hana giggled, wrapping her arms around her mom's neck. "Much better."
Wonwoo sat down on the couch, patting the space next to him. "Come here, my girls."
Areum settled beside him, Hana still in her lap. The warmth of their little family filled the room, and for a moment, Areum felt the same overwhelming love she had the day Hana was born.
"We really did this," she murmured, brushing Hana's hair back.
Wonwoo kissed her temple, just like he had in the hospital five years ago. "Yeah, we did. I can't believe it, I'm married to my best friend, and we have a beautiful baby girl together. I wouldn't change a thing."
Areum smiled, leaning into him. Their journey hadn't been easy, but looking at their daughter—happy, healthy, and so full of life—she knew it had all been worth it.
They had built something beautiful together.
