18:36, 3 March 2025A whole month passed by, Wonwoo and Areum hadn't spoken to each other yet. Ever since the day Wonwoo cried his heart out, releasing all of his feelings, he hadn't even stolen a glance at her.
But Areum? She wouldn't stop staring at him, biting the inside of her cheeks. She wanted to speak to him so bad, but he made it clear that if anything happened, she shouldn't come back to him.
Last week, Areum was at the grocery store buying snacks for a movie night with Hajoon, but the moment she stepped out of the store, she spotted Hajoon. He had his arms wrapped around a girl, she watched them as they laughed about something together, and then he pulled the girl for a kiss.
They'd been dating for just a month, and he managed to cheat on her? Wow. She couldn't believe her eyes.
And then it all came back.
Everything Wonwoo had said to her. How Hajoon was a bad guy, how she shouldn't trust him, how he kissed someone else at the party when she was so close to him.
She walked up to Hajoon and the girl, stopping in front of him. When Hajoon noticed her, his eyes widened in horror. That was when Areum took her chance to slap him right across the face, making the girl gasp. She managed to scream a, "I hope you rot in hell!" At him before she walked away, heading back to her house to cry her eyes out.
She was about to call Wonwoo, and that was when she remembered. Wonwoo hated her now. He didn't want to speak with her.
Right now, during English class, Wonwoo and Jun were sitting next to each other, Mingyu and Vernon were next to each other, while Seungkwan sat alone right behind them.
The group hung out everyday, making sure never to leave Wonwoo's side. They knew how Wonwoo was with overthinking, and they didn't want to leave him to his mind.
Right now, they were all planning a day out.
"I think we should go to an arcade," Mingyu suggested.
"That's a great idea!" Seungkwan clapped excitedly. "Let's go at 5 pm!"
"Make it 7, I have basketball practice," Mingyu answered.
"Alright, and then we can have dinner together," Jun added.
"Are we meeting up at the arcade or Wonwoo's place?" Vernon asked.
"Let's just go to my place after school," Wonwoo suggested. "We could take a nap, eat something and then go to the arcade together."
"Good idea."
The group was busy organizing their notes when Areum appeared in front of them.
"Wonwoo, can we talk?"
She couldn't just ignore him anymore. She missed her best friend, and she needed to fix things between them.
"About?" He asked, not looking at her.
"I think we should talk alone, please," she begged.
The boys were silent, staring at Wonwoo, waiting for him to say something.
"We could talk during lunch," Wonwoo answered.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" She was about to hug him, but he turned away, giving his back to her.
She sighed, before walking away.
"You're going to forgive her?" Vernon asked.
"I'm not sure." Wonwoo ran a hand through his hair. "I don't think I'm ready. But I guess I should listen to her, we've been friends for years after all."
"But don't let your feelings get in the way," Mingyu warned. "You don't have to forgive her just because you're in love with her. Do whatever feels right, just make sure you don't hurt yourself, okay?"
Wonwoo nodded.
That was when their teacher walked in, and their class began. Wonwoo tried his best not to think about Areum, or what she wanted to say to him, but he couldn't.
When lunch time came by, Areum followed Wonwoo the moment he stepped out of class, dragging him away from the group. She knew she needed to apologize to the boys too, but she needed to fix things with Wonwoo first.
They stepped out of school, walking to their usual lunch spot under the tree. Areum was about to sit down, but when she noticed Wonwoo didn't move, she stood up again, letting out a cough.
"Hajoon cheated on me," she blurted out.
"Okay..." Wonwoo said confusedly, he was still avoiding eye contact with her.
"You were right," she told him.
"Is there anything else you'd like to say?" He asked, this time looking at her as he folded his arms.
The look in his eyes broke her. It felt like... he didn't love her anymore. Like they weren't best friends anymore. And that was right, because she chose to ruin their friendship.
"I'm sorry, Wonwoo." She cried. "You were right, about every single thing you said. And I hate that I ruined our friendship for a guy. I have no idea what to tell you, because I feel like shit."
When he didn't answer, she continued.
"Please forgive me!" She begged. "I missed you so much, Wonwoo. I miss going to school with you everyday, and going back home with you. I miss us studying together, eating together, going out."
"Yet you chose to throw all that away," he stated. "Instead of listening to me, you chose to leave me."
"I made a mistake, we all make mistakes!"
Wonwoo's eyes softened as he stared at her. He really missed her. He missed being around her. But he felt betrayed. He wanted to trust her again, they'd been best friends for 11 years after all, but she threw it all away in just a second for someone else. How could he make sure she wouldn't do that again?
Meanwhile, Areum's heart was beating so fast. She really hated herself for doing this to Wonwoo. Her best friend, her brother, her everything. All she wanted to do was pull him into a hug, cry her eyes out and beg him for forgiveness.
"I don't know, Areum." He shook his head softly. "I mean, we can talk, but I'm not sure I can forgive you yet."
