Chapter 14
07:50, 27 January 2013Ross's POV
Today was the day! I couldn't even sleep last night because I was so excited to give Emily the perfect day. She definitely deserved it after all that's happened.
To: Emily
Hey Em! Just wanted to make sure you knew what day it was ;) ill be there in half an hour!
I know she was probably all ready to go but I wanted to make sure she was definitely ready when I got there so it wouldn't be awkward. Even if she wasn't ready when I got there, I wouldn't mind waiting for her. It would definitely be worth it.
From: Emily
Hey Ross! I know what day it is, trust me ;) ive actually been up since 8 am...cant wait!!
Since 8? She's been up since 8?! This was incredible!
I quickly ate some breakfast and got dressed before heading out.
I was in the bathroom, putting on a button up black shirt that I had. I looked in the mirror as I buttoned it up and kept rehearsing what I was going to say to Emily when I opened the door.
"Hey Em, what's up? No, that sound stupid." I mumbled. "Hey there gorgeous. What is that? Definitely not what I'll say. How about-" I started but Riker walked right in without even knocking.
"Hey dude, when you're done talking to yourself, I need the bathroom." He teased me.
"Wow, thanks for knocking." I said sarcastically.
"You're welcome! What are you even saying?" He asked.
"Well, I was practicing on what to say to Emily when she opens her door." I said, not looking at him. Saying it out loud, it sounded pathetic.
"Aw, that's sweet." He winked.
"I'm just not sure what to say." I sighed.
"First, lean on your hand which would be leaned against the door frame. When she opens the door, say 'Woah, I didn't know I was picking up a model' and then wink at her." He suggested.
"Do you want to do this for me? You seem to know what you're doing." I joked.
"Calm down, you got this. Why are you so nervous anyway?" he asked, leaning against the door frame.
"Well, I guess I just want everything to be perfect. I want her to never forget today." I smiled.
"Just be yourself and she'll never forget. I promise. Now get out of here!" He exclaimed.
"I'm going." I said and walked out.
When I pulled up to Emily's house, I took a deep breath and got out of the car.
I made sure I had everything. The picnic basket, the ticket to rent a canoe, and the directions to get to the place where they shoot off fireworks. Yep, that was the last event I decided to do.
I slowly walked up to her door and did what Riker said. I rang her doorbell and leaned my hand up against her door frame.
"Coming!" She called and opened the door. She was stunning.
She wore a simple blue blouse and white skinny jeans with brown strappy sandals.
"Woah, I didn't realize I was picking up a model." I winked at her. Nailed it, I thought to myself.
"Oh stop." She laughed.
"Shall we?" I asked and held her hand as we walked to my car.
I opened the door for her and she climbed in. I walked over to my side and got in.
"Nice car." She said. I thankfully got to use Riker's car for today. I wasn't going to spend a romantic day with Emily in Rydel's egg car.
"Thanks. Its Riker's." I said, starting the engine and pulling away from the curb.
"So, where are we going?" She asked.
"You'll see." I smiled.
"It seems like every time we go out its a surprise." She laughed.
"Maybe that's just the way I roll." I wink at her.
"Have it your way then." She said playfully.
We drove in silence for a few moments and then we finally arrived.
"The park? Again?" She asked. Crap. Was she disappointed?
"This time, its better." I winked at her and opened the door to the back so I could get the picnic basket out.
"Ooh, a picnic. Fancy." She gave a small laugh.
"Why thank you." I smiled.
We made our way to a perfect spot underneath a tree. I laid the blanket down and sat down next to Emily.
"Its a beautiful day." She smiled, looking around.
"Yes, it is." I smiled at her and she looked down, blushing slightly.
I took out the food and we started eating.
We didn't talk too much since we were both pretty hungry but it was incredible. We kept smiling at each other and I swear I never took my eyes off of her. She looked stunning in the sunlight and the way she smiled could make me crumble.
After we finished, we sat there for a few moments and then I spoke up.
"I'm so glad we got to do this." I smiled, gently holding her hand in mine.
"I am too." Emily returned the smile, holding my hand back.
I leaned in closer to her and kissed her forehead. She smiled and blushed slightly. She leaned in closer to me and put her head against my chest with my arm tightly around her shoulder.
"Can this moment be any more perfect?" Emily asked.
"It will be." I winked at her and kissed her lips softly.
"Ok, now its perfect." She gave a small laugh. "Hey, did you so something with your hair?" She asked, running her fingers through my tousled hair.
"Not really, just made it a bit messier to give it a wilder look." I winked at her and she laughed.
"Well, I like it this way. Your wild side is very attractive." She winked at me and laughed.
"That's what I was going for." I smiled at her. "Come on, I have something else planned." I said, starting to get up and pack everything together.
"I assume you aren't going to tell me." She gave a small laugh.
"Nope!" I said proudly and put everything into the car.
We both climbed in and I started to drive towards the next park.
When I drove up, Emily had a shocked look on her face.
"Another park?! Jeez, is it like your theme or something?" She laughed.
"I guess so." I smiled. "One canoe." I told the guy and he showed us to where we could get it.
"You do know how to work these, right?" She asked me, unsure of this.
"Trust me, we'll be fine." I smiled at her and we both climbed in.
At first, everything was going great. Emily and I were facing each other as we paddled away so it just made me look at her more. She kept looking around like we were in a magical kingdom and it made me smile.
We were pretty far out when all of a sudden, a fish decided to jump on for the ride.
"Oh my gosh!" Emily exclaimed.
"Hold on, I got this!" I replied and hit the fish off with my paddle, which didn't work too well. Instead of pushing it off the boat, I pushed it right onto Emily's lap.
"Ahh!" She screamed as it flopped in her lap.
"I'll help you Em!" I exclaimed, completely humiliated at what was happening.
I rushed over to her side and grabbed the fish and threw it off the boat.
I slowly backed away to my side and sat there, eyes wide open, not knowing what to say.
Just as I was just about to say something, Emily started laughing.
"What's so funny?" I asked.
"A fish just flew onto the boat. Out of nowhere!" She laughed.
"Yeah, and then it landed on your lap!" I laughed along with her.
"And then you were my hero and saved me." She winked at me.
"Yeah, I saved the day." I winked back and she laughed.
I looked deep into her eyes and as I started to lean in to kiss her, it started pouring rain.
"Oh my gosh!" Emily exclaimed and started laughing.
"The universe is out to get us!" I said, laughing as well.
We just sat there, laughing in the rain, as the boat spun in slow circles because neither of us were holding onto our paddles anymore.
As Emily looked up at the sky, smiling brightly, I held her hand and she looked at me. I leaned in and kissed her lips softly. We didn't pull away for at least 8 seconds and it was the best moment of my life.
When we pulled away, we both smiled at each other and I leaned in to kiss her again.
We pulled away and started to paddle back to shore with the rain still pouring hard.
"Thank you." I smiled at the guy and tipped him.
"I can tell you really like this girl." He winked at me and made his way back to the shack.
I jogged to catch up to Emily and intertwined my hand in hers.
"So, now what?" She asked as we slowly walked to the car. Neither of us cared that we were absolutely soaked.
"I'm really not sure actually. Like, I had something planned but with the rain, I'm not sure if it will still happen." I frowned.
"Well, what was it?" She asked.
"I guess I can tell you." I sighed and winked at her. "I was going to have us watch a fireworks display but I don't think they're going to play them anymore." I said.
"Well, they usually have a sign out front if they aren't so let's just check the place where they would have them." She suggested.
"Good idea." I smiled and we both got back into the car.
When we pulled up, sure enough, there was a sing saying they weren't going to be displaying the fireworks.
"Dang it." I said.
"Its alright." Emily said, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"We could go back to my house." I suggested.
"Great idea." She replied.
I kissed her cheek and started to drive away.
When we pulled up in the driveway, we both rushed in since it was still raining, hand in hand.
"Well, you two look wet." Rydel giggled. "But also very cute." Rydel winked.
"Yeah, she is." I winked at Emily and kissed her. In front of everyone.
"OMG a Rossily kiss!" Rydel exclaimed running over to give Emily a huge hug.
So glad to have Emily in my life.
