Trust Me

Melody sighs as she leans forward on the counter and getting annoyed from the letter. It's a note from the Death Reaper, saying he needed some help because the humans are getting worse every each day. No wonder hell is so goddamn populated with sinners. The black haired female quickly finish her drink as she gets up and puts it away in the sink, washing it and putting the glass back in its place.

The girl stared into the empty sink with her hands resting on the edge of it. The last time she went to Earth was years ago, wonder what had changed ever since? Melody honestly just don't want to know. She was about to sigh but feels a presence behind her, she didn't move as her tensed shoulders relaxed a little.

"Hey, Al." She greets before turning around, having to back up on the sink due to how close he is to her. The demon only smile wider,

"Why, hello there dear! What are you doing up this late?" He asks as he looks at her nightgown. Melody tensed up a little as she fiddles with her black locks,

"I just couldn't sleep that's all — I'm going to now though, so.." She makes up an excuse so the taller demon could at least back up a little because the two are barely 3-4 inches away from each other. Alastor nodded as he steps backwards, making Melody mentally sigh in relief.

"Well you better go have your rest! Just like you said, a lady should take care of her self-worth." He smiles, Melody nods as she averts her eyes away from him and walking away from the male. Seems like Alastor is really taking a mental note of everything she says, it's kind of.. creepy. The radio demon watch as the woman walks out of the kitchen doors as he walks towards the counter where she was sitting before. He notices the letter with the black envelope as he picks it up to take a look at it, but the second he picks it up — it disappears in a red puff of smoke.

The demon only tilt his head in confusion but shrugs it off as he exits the kitchen himself. Now, what can he do to make her trust him even more? Perhaps, someone can assist him in that. Alastor's eyes pierce through the portraits of the Magne family and even a picture that he never noticed before due to it being in the far back of the hotel. He walks towards it to see a familiar picture, it's the same picture he saw in that album.

The king and queen of hell with Melody in the middle but this time there's something Melody is holding in her arms, upon closer inspection — what she is holding close to her is a baby softly wrapped in a cloth. Seems like that is Charlie when she was still a little baby. Melody is still having that blank face as she looks down at the infant in her arms as both of the Queen and King have their signature smile plastered on their lips.

Alastor grins, knowing well what Melody's weakness is. And maybe, he might just poke around it to toy with her even more.

The morning comes as Melody wakes up with another nightmare, you could say that she didn't get a blink of sleep at all. The girl sits upright as she moves to the edge of the bed, stretching her arms in the air and standing up right after. She walks over to the bathroom, pushing the door open and stepping in. Melody looks at herself in the mirror, her hair is mess as she pulls the hood of her nightgown off her head.

She reach out her hand towards the mirror as she wipes on her reflection, suddenly revealing a different reflection. Its a girl with long jet black hair, green emerald eyes, soft white skin and freckles decorated across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. The reflection followed Melody's every move, the blinking and even the way she breathes; it was as if she's the person in the mirror. The girl stared at the green emerald eyes for a moment before sighing and backing away from the sink to get herself in the shower.

"Aye what the fuck, Slyvan?! You said I was gonna go after!" Angel Dust cuss out through out the lobby as Slither place down another skip uno card on the pile. The said blue spider only grinned upon Angel's outburst. Charlie gasps from across the room,

"Angel, language!" She scolded, Angel only grumbled like a grumpy person as he sulks. Sin chuckles seeing Angel's response as she place down a card on the pile as it's her turn, suddenly placing down a plus four. Sin smirks up at Slither as it's only the three of them playing, Slither only grinned back as he added in a plus two — sending it to Angel Dust. The pink spider widens his eyes as he cuss out,

"What the fu- fluff!? You two are ganging up on me!" He shouts as he admits defeat, Sin and Slither high fives each other as the three plays another round. Melody walks down the stairs as if she was in a hurry, Sin looks up from the couches and was about to invite the other girl in the game but something made her stop as she sees Melody handing Charlie a black envelope.

Charlie reads through it as Melody went off to the back room, passing Alastor to take her black lace umbrella.

"When will you be back?" Vaggie asks after reading the letter over Charlie's shoulder. Melody fixes her hair as she gives a small reassuring smile towards Vaggie,

"I won't be long. Probably two hours or so." She says, Vaggie nodded. "Please take care of Charlie for me, kay' Vag?" Vaggie nods as she wraps an arm around Charlie's.

"Since when have I never done that?" She grins, Melody slightly smiles. Before Melody could leave, Alastor walks up as he raises his eyebrows.

"Dear, where are you going?" He asks, Melody looks up at him for a moment of silence.

"Um, work. You could say." She says as she holds the handle of her umbrella.

"Work? I thought the hotel is your work?" He asks again, Melody wondered for a second.

"I have multiple jobs, this one is outside of the hotel. Why did you ask?" She explains and adds a question in the end, Alastor hummed as he rubbed his chin with his index finger.

"Hmm, I was wondering if I could tag along! You wouldn't mind would you?" He smiles, Melody is thinking hard as she was about to refuse. But he adds, "I did promise charming demon belle that I'd keep you safe, did I not?"

'Oh this damn strawberry pimp.' Melody says inside of her head, Charlie nodded in agreement as she remembered. Vaggie only watch, not knowing what to do for once. "Oh, um. Sure, I don't mind." Melody answers as she nod slowly to herself, then the girl turns to Charlie. "Well then, I'll be leaving now. I'll be back as fast as I can." Melody waves as Charlie waves back, same goes for Vaggie.

Melody turns on her heels as she heads for the door with Alastor following behind her. Sin watch as the two leave the hotel, where in hell are the two going?

Melody hovers her umbrella above her head as she walk, a tad too fast towards her house. Alastor only followed in silence, the two arrive by the house as the girl unlocks her door and steps in, inviting Alastor in as she closes the door behind him. The red demon looks around her house to see the inside as if it's an old-fashioned mansion. Melody walks past her kitchen counter, picking something white and circle in a bowl as she walks into a room.

She mentioned Alastor to follow as he did, the two walks into a room. The inside is dim and there is no windows whatsoever. The room is only dimly lighted by candles around the room, in the middle of the room is a pentagram. Now that Alastor is much more closer to the girl, he noticed what she had picked up from her kitchen bowl was an eyeball. She bite down into it as she chews, moving around the room as she pulls out a book from behind a curtain as she flips it open.

It was in an instant, a portal opens up. Melody stands up as she throws in the half bit of the eyeball into her mouth and chews.

"Outside of the hotel, as in — outside of hell?" Alastor points out, knowing well what that book is and where that portal may lead. Melody turn her head towards him when he spoke, she only nodded as she stands in front of the portal.

"I have an acquaintance that asked for help. He works in the living world." She explains as she suddenly holds out her right hand towards Alastor, her left having the umbrella hang on her wrist. Alastor raise his eyebrows at her invitation, "Oh, I need you to hold onto me so you won't accidentally end up in some other dimension. It would be a hassle to look where you might end up to." She explains as Alastor only smiled down at her.

Instead of letting her grab him, Alastor holds out his microphone cane towards her. She didn't question it as she holds on it and walks into the portal with him. Nobody can see anything as different colours and unexplainable things appearing. In a second, everything went quiet. Suddenly, there's bird chirping a beautiful melody as a soft breeze hit the two. Alastor blinks his eyes to look at Melody, instead he sees someone else.

Her hair is still black but it's much more shorter and all the way down on her back. Her eyes are emerald green with freckles across her soft fair skin. Melody blinks her eyes as she looks up at Alastor, raising her eyebrows when she noticed he been staring at her.

"Dear, is that you?" He asks, chuckling a little to himself. Melody nodded, fiddling with her hair.

"It's a form I take in the human world. Now, let's get going." She says, looking forward. Alastor looks around to find themselves in the woods, the trees are tall and the air is cold. Melody walks off and Alastor follow her close behind, they exited the forest to find themselves in a park. There's kids, families and parents all around. Some of the kids are running, but most of the people there have devices on their hands, smartphones.

Melody only blink in silence upon the scene in front of her, the kids that are running around; playing tag — runs close to Alastor as they seem to just went through him like he's a ghost. He finds it amusing as he knew he's long dead.

"Follow me." Melody voice out as she walks off, for some reason — even though Melody still have her umbrella with her. She doesn't use it as she walks down the street and up to a big white building. It's clear what the building is, it's a hospital. On the way there, Alastor could see three kids on the sidewalk. The two is much bigger than one of them, they seem to be tormenting the small kid as one of them trips him. Melody stops as she looks at them,

The kids laugh among the two of them, Melody holds up a hand as she waves her index finger in the air and walks away. Suddenly, the two kids backs away and trips on nothing. The smaller kid laughs, "Ha! Karma's got you!" He shouted, the second the kid said the word 'Karma'; Melody quietly giggles to herself as she continue to walk inside the building. Alastor now sees it, her job in the human world is bringing Karma to others.

Its a no wonder that she used to introduce herself as Miss Karma when he first met her. Now that he thinks about it, why is she called Melody now? His thoughts are interrupted when Melody is walking inside a patient's room. He been following her without even noticing. When they walk down the hallway where there's a mirror, he couldn't see himself in it but only the girl in front of him.

Melody walks up to a patient's bed where there is a man with a oxygen mask on his face. Alastor stands in front the bed as Melody is on the side of it, she suddenly held out her hand as she softly holds the man's chin. She leans in as she whispers in his ear,

"Mr. Jones, I'm here." She whispers, Alastor watch the scene in front of him unfolds with his smile never leaving his face. The man only responded by a small gasp, "Do you know why I'm here, Mr. Jones?" She whispers again, the man weakly shook his head. "Well, Mr. Jones.. do you think you deserve a second chance? To live on and forget your sins? Where you will be forgiven for your actions?" The man nods repeatedly. "Say yes, my dearest." She whisper, her right eye suddenly slowly blinking from emerald green to black and white.

"Y-Yes." The man choke out. Melody chuckles, like that one time Alastor see her — she smiles widely with her teeth showing.

"Do you think God will save you?" She asks, the man nods repeatedly once again. She smiles wider as she holds his head with her other hand, she breathes in slowly. "After what you did to those children, killing them, torturing them, making their family fall into the deep depths of despair — You still think God will save you?" She asks again, the man nods. With one iron grip, "Karma says not." She snaps the man's head as it makes an ugly crack noise.

The heartbeat meter immediately goes dead line as it beeps. Alastor couldn't help but laugh, Melody looks at him and raise her eyebrows.

"What a performance! That was incredible, my dear!" He smiles, Melody shrugs as she unplugs the heartbeat monitor as it shuts down. Suddenly a black puff of smoke appears on the other side of the bed as a silhouette shapes out.

"There you are, took you long enough." Melody voice out as she crosses her arm over her chest. The person with their hood over their head chuckles and shook their head,

"Says the one that went gone off for decades." His voice is raspy and deep, Melody rolls her eyes as she looks down at the corpse in front of her, the man reach out as he hovers his hand over the dead body's chest, pulling something out of it to reveal a soul. "Ever planning to come back here?" He asks, Melody shakes her head.

"You know I'm dead. You took my soul to the afterlife after all." Melody says as she suddenly pokes the dead corpse's eyeball. Alastor looks at the man as he greets,

"Why hello there! The name's Alastor, who may you be?" His static radio voice could be heard jumping off the hospital room walls. The man looks at Alastor in confusion then turns to Melody,

"Did you really bring your boyfriend to your job?" He asks as he puts away the soul in a bag. Melody widens her eyes in embarrassment as she picks up the pillow on the bed and throws it towards the man. It hit his face as he did nothing, Melody was about to say something to protest but the man only wave his hand and laughs. "I'm just joking!" He says as he turns to Alastor, shaking the demon's hand.

"Nice to meet you, Alastor. I'm the Death Reaper." He greets, Alastor booms out in a laughter.

"Who knew the Death Reaper could be so friendly?" He jokes, Death laughs along and Melody only shook her head. The two stops as Death looks over to Melody,

"You're going anywhere after this?" He asks, Melody nods.

"I'm going to check the house. See if it's still standing." She says as she looks down at the dead corpse, Death nods.

"Well, I'll be going now. It's nice to see you doing well, Karma. Greetings." He bid his goodbyes as he disappear in a puff of black smoke. Melody sighs as she walks out of the hospital with Alastor following behind her.

"Where are we going now, dear?" Alastor asks, Melody walks away; out of the hospital doors and dodging the nurses that runs into the hospital room she had exited minutes ago. When they arrived outside, Melody opens up her umbrella and hovers it over her head.

"My house." She reply, short and simple. Alastor nods as the two walk down a neighborhood, old, cold and silent. A few minutes later, Melody stops in front of an abandoned house, there's trees all around it as plants had grown in and out of the cracks of the house. Melody closes her umbrella as she softly push the broken metal gate fence as she steps in, noticing the many greens around out in the front. She push the door open to see the hallway that leads to the living room that is closed by the shoji doors, the stairs to the top floor and the hallway to the kitchen in the back.

Melody walks in as Alastor follow behind her, clearly wanting to know what's its like inside of the house. She walks in and looks at the broken and ripped shoji doors as she pulls it to the side which was a bit hard to do. Alastor looks in the room as Melody walks in, walking over to one of the shelves with barely anything on it. She crouch down as pulls a drawer, pulling out a box as she opens it.

The girl takes out a photograph as she stands up, looking at it. Alastor walks up to her and looks at it over her shoulder. It's a photograph of a girl with short black hair, victorian doll-like dress in the middle. A girl with bright hair and eyes on the left with flowers in her hair and a taller girl on the right with darker hair. It's hard to see how they really look like since the photograph is in black and white. But whoever those people are, Melody couldn't help but stare at it as her shoulders tenses up.

"Dear, are you alright?" Alastor asks as he holds her tensed shoulders. The girl jump in surprise as she looks up at him, she quickly puts the photograph away in her pocket as she nods. Alastor could've sworn tears were about to form in her eyes but it looked hard to do and painful to look at it.

"I'm fine." She whispers out, not intending it to be a whisper as she looks away.

"Melody, dear, please." He says. "You can trust me."
