Chapter 35 - Movie Tickets

02:43, 27 April 2021

Bakugou tossed you onto his bed a minute later.

"Did you have to drop me?" You rubbed your back with mock injury.

"Yes," he deadpanned and removed his denim shirt, his black tank exposing his defined arms and shoulders. He headed toward his bathroom.

"Are we going to talk about what just happened?" He turned back to face you, an eyebrow raised. "You kind of announced to the whole class that I'm your girlfriend." You lifted your own brows at him, as if it wasn't obvious.

"Is that a problem?" he said, taking another step to the bathroom.

"We didn't exactly talk about it." You bit your lip. Bakugou 'tsk'ed.

"I like you and you like me. I met your mom for fuck's sake. Do you need some shitty declaration?" he huffed, a note of exasperation in his tone. You gave a soft half smile.

"Just asking me would have been nice," you teased, tossing your legs to dangle off the side of the bed. Bakugou rolled his eyes. "See, it would have gone something like this..." You cleared your throat and put on a fake deep voice. "[y/n], you're so smart and beautiful. I love hanging out with you and you're a great kisser. It would be my honor if you'd be my girlfriend." You wickedly smirked at the explosive blond.

"That's what I was supposed to say?"

"Yes," a challenge in your tone.

In two strides he was in front of you. He bent over and crashed his lips to yours. You felt yourself leaning backward on the bed, his body positioned above yours. One of his knees rested by your hip as he maintained balance, pressing deeper into the kiss. His strong arms pushed into the soft comforter, and your hands instinctively cupped his face.

Bakugou broke the kiss and traveled his lips to your neck. You inhaled sharply at the feeling of his lips and warm breath. Your hands moved to his back, pulling him closer and you subconsciously dug your nails into the fabric of his shirt. He huffed out a sharp laugh against your soft skin which made you release a quivering exhale. He kissed up your neck to your ear where he rested.

"I want you to be mine," he whispered. You gulped as a new sensation filled your body. Need.

Before you could act, he pulled away, standing in front of the bed, arms over his chest with a cocky grin on his face, looking at your disheveled state. You sat up and ran a hand through your hair.

"I guess that's an okay way to ask me too." Your voice was husky, your breath not yet steady. Bakugou stayed silent and still, waiting for you to continue. You bit your lip again as you turned your gaze to your hands, suddenly self-conscious of how he'd made you feel. "I think I would like to be yours," you said finally, peaking up through the hair that had fallen in front of your eyes.

"Of course you do. I'm amazing." He smirked and finally turned to step into his bathroom. You laughed to yourself as you heard the water in the sink running. The next moment something hit you in the head.

"Ow." You picked up a light green toothbrush from the bed. "What the fuck is this?"

"What does it look like? It's a toothbrush Ashtray." He squirted a dollop of toothpaste on his own red brush.

"Why did you throw a toothbrush at me?" You held the little piece of plastic up, waving it at Bakugou. At my boyfriend.

"So you could get ready for bed." Your eyes widened at his statement. What on earth was he expecting?

"You assume a lot of things, don't you?" You stood from the bed and walked toward the bathroom door. He shoved the tube of toothpaste into your hand and you mechanically opened the top and added a drop to the fresh, white bristles.

"You've already fallen asleep on me before," he said, shoving his toothbrush to one side of his mouth so he could speak through a mouthful of bubbles.

"That wasn't exactly something I planned." You leaned against the bathroom doorframe and pushed the toothbrush into your mouth, tasting the refreshing minty flavor. You watched as the explosive boy violently scrubbed his teeth. He's going to scrape off all the enamel.

Bakugou spat into the sink, took a handful of water, swished and then spat again. "Just fucking watch some videos with me. And if you fall asleep again at least your breath won't suck."

"Are you saying my breath was bad?" The toothbrush nearly dropped out of your mouth as you gaped, suddenly feeling extremely insecure about your dental hygiene.

"No, you idiot." He pushed passed you and headed to his dresser, rummaged around and pulled out a pair of dark sweatpants. You turned your back to spit into the sink, rinsed and placed the green toothbrush beside Bakugou's in a little plastic cup. When you turned around again Bakugou's jeans had been replaced with the grey sweats.

"Do you want something to wear?" he asked matter-of-factly, opening another drawer full of shirts. You looked down at your clothes and then back at the boy, flustered.

"I have a whole room full of clothes." You pointed toward the ceiling and your bedroom on the fifth floor. Bakugou rolled his eyes and shoved a black tee shirt and a pair of basketball shorts into your hands before you could object further.

"Just get fucking changed." You felt a small blush creep up your neck as you took the small bundle into the bathroom. You stripped off quickly, leaving your underwear and bra on, regardless of how uncomfortable it was to wear a bra to bed. You pulled the shorts up. They were too big and nearly fell off, the elastic only barely holding onto the curve of your hips. You grabbed the t-shirt and instinctively held it up to your nose. It smelled like gunpowder and caramel. You tossed it over your head.

When you emerged a minute later Bakugou was already lounging on his bed, his laptop on his chest. "Your shorts are too big."

"Then I guess you can just go pants-less. You like doing that right Ashtray?" he said wickedly. You huffed and walked over to the bed, propping yourself on the edge. "Why do you look so nervous? I'm not going to bite you."

"I wouldn't put that past you," you said, finally getting over your awkwardness and swinging your legs onto the bed.

It's not like I haven't sat on his bed a million times before.

"I mean, if you're into that kind of thing." He flashed his canine in a seductive grin and leaned toward you. Your body was still heated from your last kiss and you contemplated for a moment what his teeth nipping against your skin would feel like.

"Get your head out of the gutter you kinky bastard." You pushed him back, slightly flustered, and he exhaled an easy laugh. He reached over to his nightstand and turned off the light. The only light now came from the laptop screen and you found yourself huddling closer.

"What're we watching?"

"We can watch actual episodes of a TV show, old hero footage, or cats doing stupid shit." He scanned through his browser.

"Cats doing stupid shit please," you answered brightly.

"Tsk. Figures."

"What? You asked." You cuddled up to Bakugou's side, your head nestled into his shoulder, better to see the screen. He tilted it slightly toward you and rested his chin against your hair.

He doesn't cuddle, my ass.

He pressed on a video link and you smiled as you watched a kitten freak out at seeing itself in a mirror.

You fell asleep sometime during the fourth video. Bakugou quietly closed the laptop and dropped it onto the floor with his free hand, the one not falling asleep under your shoulders. He thought to move you but instead stared at your peaceful face, touched only by the moonlight streaming through his window. He took a moment to appreciate the delicate curve of your nose, the way your lips formed a soft smile as you slept, the gentle hum of your breath. He brushed a loose piece of hair from your forehead and watched as you crinkled your nose instinctively in your sleep.

He thought back to your first day of class. He had pushed you up against that wall trying to intimidate you. You had held your ground and called yourself his weakness. He couldn't believe how right you were.

He kissed the top of your head lightly, breathing in the warm scent of your hair, a mix of campfire and cinnamon.

"You shitty girl. Look what you've done to me."

***

You felt the buzz of your watch's silent alarm. You were so warm you tried to ignore it and snuggled deeper into the covers.

"What's that noise?" a hoarse voice murmured in your ear. Your eyes shot open and you tapped your buzzing wrist. Strong arms wrapped tighter around you, pulling you closer to the heat. Bakugou nuzzled into your hair.

"Katsuki?" you dared to whisper. The boy hummed. "I... I have to go." You started to pull away, but his arms locked around you.

"No you don't. It's Sunday," he protested, his voice still muffled against your neck. You found yourself smiling at his morning calm, so much different from the hostility he typically imparted.

"Yes. I do." You twisted your body so you faced him. "I have to train. Finals are next week."

"Train with me later. I'm ten times better than that Icyhot bastard anyway." He shifted his body lower, his head resting against your chest.

God, he's so adorable and sleepy.

"Be that as it may, I have to meet him in twenty minutes in the gym." You wiggled your hips trying to escape Bakugou's grip. You felt the loose shorts slide down slightly and stopped. "C'mon don't fight me on this," you playfully whined.

"If you can't get out of this, you have no business being a hero." You could feel him smirking against your shirt.

"Fine then. You asked for it." You lit your fingers and pulled in the smoke before shooting a very thin tendril a few feet to Bakugou's bathroom door. You focused, your eyes turning red. And suddenly you lounged against the doorframe looking smug.

Bakugou's arms hugged around himself, your form suddenly gone. He whipped around on the bed to face the door. "How did you?" A wicked grin appeared on his face. "Cute panties Ashtray."

"What?" You looked down. The wiggle and the jump must have knocked the shorts off your hips, and you stood in only Bakugou's t-shirt and your lacy red underwear. Your face flamed red. "Stop fucking looking!" you whisper shouted as you snatched your clothes off the floor.

"Now, why would I do that?" You scoffed and locked yourself in the bathroom as you heard Bakugou laugh. "Are you going to tell me how you appeared halfway across the room?"

Back in your clothes from the night before, you opened the door and threw Bakugou's t-shirt at his head which he easily caught. "No. I'm full of secrets." You grabbed your wallet and phone from his desk and headed toward the door.

Bakugou jumped out of the bed and wrapped his arms around you from behind. "Do it again," he challenged, his voice deep and throaty in your ear. You felt a warmth blossom in the pit of your stomach but couldn't let yourself get distracted.

"I don't just do tricks on command. I'm not here for your amusement." The boy 'tsk'ed. You shifted your body weight closer to the bed and Bakugou instinctively took a step back. Working on muscle memory you twisted your hips into his side, forcing his body to pivot forward. You used his momentum to toss him over your shoulder and onto the bed.

The bed creaked at the impact. Bakugou lay with his feet toward the pillows and his head dangling off the edge, stunned. Before he could counter you brushed a light kiss on his forehead. "I'll see you later." You grabbed Murder from atop Bakugou's dresser and left the room.

***

"You're late," Todoroki said, standing on the mat when you arrived.

"Sorry. I just couldn't seem to get out of bed," you half-lied. The memory of waking up in Bakugou's arms warmed you, even in the air-conditioned building.

"Would Bakugou have anything to do with that?" You paused while tying your shoe to look up at Todoroki. His arms were across his chest and he wore a skeptical expression. You looked down to your shoe again.

"So, you know?"

"Everyone knows. He carried you up the stairs announcing it to the whole dorm."

"It's... new," you said, finally standing.

"Well, don't let this new thing effect our partnership." He started to walk to the left side of the mat.

"It won't," you said with conviction. You took your own position across from him. Within a flash he sent a wall of ice toward you. You initiated your fire and punched through with an ashy column. You lit your right hand and sent a whip toward his legs.

"When did it start?" He dodged.

Is he really asking questions during a fight?

"Right before my mom got sick," you huffed out as you blocked another sheet of ice.

You closed the distance, forcing Todoroki to face you in hand-to-hand. You sent a burning uppercut toward his chin. He managed to jump back just before impact and countered with a roundhouse. He didn't retract the kick fast enough and you managed to catch his foot with a fiery palm. He sent ice down the leg you held, effectively welding your hand to his ankle. Your body dropped to the ground following the kick. Todoroki grabbed your neck with his left hand in a sign that you'd lost the match.

You thawed your frozen hand and rose from the ground, brushing off your uniform. "Have you talked to you-know-who yet?" You looked at him quizzically.

"Do you mean Yaoyorozu?"

"Of course I do you big... never mind." You waved him back into fighting positions on the mat and threw out a dense smoky column. Todoroki jumped to the right.

"She told me the other day that she's proud of how strong I've gotten. I don't know where that came from." You chuckled at his awkwardness, realizing it was your suggestion that had led to his confusion.

You dropped to the ground as Todoroki sent an icy shard toward your head. You rolled to the side and scrambled onto your feet before grabbing both of his ankles with your whips. He landed on his back hard, his flame attack shooting off toward the ceiling. You sent out two more tendrils and pinned his arms down. Walking over to him slowly you placed a boot on his stomach signaling your win.

"What did you say?" You released the tendrils and reached out a hand, helping Todoroki to his feet.

"I asked if she'd like to study for finals. She agreed." He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Look at you Romeo." You smiled and gave him a playful shove.

"My name's not Romeo." You rolled your eyes and shook your head at his inability to understand certain references. You walked to your starting space.

"Again?" Todoroki nodded.

***

"Please tutor me [y/n]? I can't be the worst in the class again." Kaminari draped his arm over your shoulder as you sat on the couch flipping through your notebooks.

"Oh, are we asking [y/n]?" Mina chimed in. "Please?!" She hopped onto the cushion next to you, crinkling some of your papers. You scowled up at her and she shifted her weight.

"What are you extras bugging her about?" Bakugou dropped on the couch perpendicular to your own and tossed his feet up on the coffee table. You heard the crack and fizz as he opened a can of soda.

"We need her to tutor us," Kaminari whined, pressing his cheek against yours. "Pretty please. You're the bestest and the smartest and the prettiest."

"Jeez, Katsuki why don't you ever say nice things like that about me?" You smooshed your cheek ever harder into Kaminari's, fanning the flames.

"GET YOUR GREASY FUCKING DUNCE FACE OFF HER YOU ASSHAT! AND [Y/N] WON'T BE TUTORING YOU BECAUSE SHE'LL BE STUDYING WITH ME!" You chuckled and patted Kaminari's soft blond hair.

"Aww, now that's no way to treat your friends. Of course I'll help you guys." Mina and Kaminari's faces lightened. They high-fived over the back of the couch.

"Thanks [y/n], you're the-"

"But! I need you to come with actual questions. I'm not just going to reteach a whole class because your notes suck. And if you ask too many dumb things, I'm going to let Katsuki scream at you-" You looked over at your boyfriend who had his arms crossed over his chest looking annoyed, "-and maybe even punch you. So don't waste my time." Bakugou's face brightened slightly at your sass and the thought of violence.

"Understood [y/n]-sensei!" Kaminari gave you a mock salute. You rolled your eyes and went back to organizing papers.

"Can we invite Sero and Kiri too?" Mina dared to add.

"What is this, a fucking circus?" Bakugou dropped his legs from the coffee table and came to hover over your couch, staring down Mina and Kaminari, small explosions popping at his palms. You didn't even bother looking up.

"If we do this, we do it right. There are no fun breaks. There are no stupid games. We fucking study and you idiots don't fail. Got it?" Your two friends gulped and nodded.

"Ashtray!" You hummed unenthused. "You take math and English. I'll handle lit and history. Whoever's sections get lower grades has to pay for the next movie."

"Can't you just ask me on a date like a normal person?" you deadpanned, scribbling notes on index cards. The vein in Bakugou's neck started to pulse from being called out in front of people.

"I think he might explode," Mina whispered to Kaminari.

"BEAT IT!" Mina squeaked and grabbed the sparky boy's hand before dashing off toward the other side of the lounge.

"Did you have to be so hostile? They just don't want to fail." You looked up at the blond boy, your tone soft which seemed to calm him slightly. He dropped into the seat beside you.

"This shit is so simple. How is failing even a possibility?"

"Not everyone is a genius like you Kitten," you said nonchalantly.

"Kitten?"

"Yes. As your girlfriend I get to give you a pet name." You heard a 'tsk'.

"You actually think I'm a pet name kind of person?" The revulsion in his tone made you laugh.

"Oh, I know you're not. But you call me Ashtray, which is just lovely by the way, so I don't really give a shit if you don't like your new name Kitten." You patted his shoulder, mockingly.

"You could call me something else," he whispered into your ear. Your eyes went wide.

"Absolutely not you perv." You shoved him so hard he nearly toppled off the couch. He laughed as he watched your cheeks grow pink.

***

Tutoring was more fun than you'd expected. While the squad could be dumber than rocks in certain topics, the antics of the group made the work less tedious. You also took notes from Bakugou's literature and history sessions, beefing up your own study materials and getting a good refresher. You found yourself smiling as he wrote themes and dates on the blackboard in an open classroom, deeply engrossed in the material. Even though he shouted and insulted everyone the whole time, his teachings were well thought out, clear, and easy to follow.

You took your written finals two days later.

***

As much as you'd feared the physical finals you were pleasantly surprised at your success when they were finished. As you had expected, you were paired with Todoroki.

The finals consisted of a series of stages. The first required you to knock out robotic targets while avoiding civilians. You had three minutes to score over 100 points. Together you scored over 230.

The next stage was a maze filled with obstacles. You were given ten minutes to make it through the various twists and turns, avoiding fire, toxic gases, crushing walls, and spikes that would shoot down from the ceiling. Todoroki sent blasts of ice to stall the crushing walls. You managed to push the poisonous gases away with walls of smoke. Working with Todoroki you were easily able to make it through the dangerous terrain in time.

The third and final stage was the hardest. Half a dozen teachers were scattered through an industrial warehouse. It was your task to stealthily make your way to the exit without being discovered. You thought of your experience in the Gorgon, of all the entrance and exit strategies you'd concocted. You wouldn't pass if you were spotted three times and would fail the stage automatically if captured. You could only imagine how easy the exercise would be for Hagakure.

In all your time together, you and Todoroki had managed to develop a kind of silent language composed of hand signals and body language which you would need to rely on heavily. Your quirks were too flashy to be used for anything other than a distraction, so you focused on brains rather than brawn.

You slinked behind stacks of boxes, forklifts and pallets topped with blue crates. Your black costume blended in well with the shadows. And you found a piece of dark fabric in one of the many crates and tossed it over Shouto's head, hiding his bright white and red hair.

Aizawa stood on a high railing watching over the warehouse. Todoroki kept him constantly in his line of sight to know if your teacher would send out his scarf for capture. Your pulse had quickened when Midnight came around a corner unexpectedly, splitting you and Todoroki up for a few minutes, but you managed to come back together thanks to your jumping ability.

The biggest obstacle was the guidance counselor, Hound Dog.

HOUND DOG—QUIRK: DOG. PROVIDES AN INCREASED SENSE OF SMELL TO THE POINT WHERE HE CAN TELL HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE INSIDE A FOREST FROM OUTSIDE. IT ALSO GIVES HIM THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A DOG, INCLUDING PAWS, CLAWS, FUR AND A LONG, BLACK NOSE.

With his impeccable sense of smell you had to move quickly and efficiently, or he'd certainly find your hiding places. You sent small smoke trails to various locations around the warehouse to help throw him off your scent which seemed to distract him for a good while.

You finally made it to the exit where Present Mic stood, ready to sound an alarm at the last hurdle. You had Todoroki send out a large blast of ice to distract the hero as you pushed out a pillar of smoke long enough to reach your English teacher. Your eyes glowed red and within a flash you were behind Present Mic and sent an elbow to his head, knocking him to the floor. You and Todoroki escaped into the outside air.

You allowed yourself time to sit on the ground, pulling your knees to your chest and panted from your twenty-odd minutes of exertion and adrenaline. Todoroki too was resting his hands on his knees. You glanced up as the mousy Principal Nezu appeared a moment later.

NEZU—QUIRK: HIGH SPEC. HIGH SPEC GRANTS NEZU, WHO WAS FORMERLY A REGULAR ANIMAL, UNPARALLELED INTELLIGENCE, PERCEPTION AND COMPREHENSION FAR SURPASSING THAT OF HUMANS. DUE TO HIS UNFATHOMABLE INTELLIGENCE, NEZU IS CAPABLE OF INSTANTLY FORMULATING INCREDIBLY INTRICATE STRATEGIES. THIS SAME INTELLECT ALSO GRANTS HIM FLAWLESS LEADERSHIP SKILLS, WHICH ARE ACKNOWLEDGED IN THE FACT THAT HE IS THE PRINCIPAL OF U.A. HIGH, A TOP HERO SCHOOL.

"Congratulations Todoroki and [l/n]. You've passed your exam. Please see Recovery Girl if needed and then make your way to the front of Ground Gamma for final discussions." The small (mouse, dog, bear?) animal said, pointing toward Recovery Girl's station. Todoroki stood first and offered you a hand. You gratefully took it, lifting yourself from the floor and followed him into the medical station.

***

Todoroki peeled away from you as you entered the tent in front of Ground Gamma. He trailed over toward Yaoyorozu who had gone through the stages with her partner, Ojiro earlier in the day. You smiled as you saw her face light up at his approach.

"How'd it go?!" Kirishima grabbed you around the shoulders and pulled you toward a table covered in water bottles. Mina waved emphatically as you approached.

"Obviously I crushed it," you deadpanned. Kirishima gave you a fist bump.

"I expect nothing less." You smiled at his complete faith in you. You grabbed a water bottle and twisted the cap. The water was fresh and cool as it ran down your throat. You hadn't realized how dry your mouth was from holding in your smoke. You turned your head when you saw Kirishima wave someone toward your little corner of the tent.

Bakugou.

Like everyone else, he was dressed in his hero costume. His skin-tight black tank top adorned with that bright orange 'X' across his middle showed off every muscle of his torso. Gloves ran up to his chiseled biceps and his deep green grenade gauntlets hung lazily from each wrist, even though you knew how heavy they really were. The shine of sweat clung to his forehead, making him glisten before he wiped it away with the back of his hand.

You still couldn't believe that you could call this painfully hostile, annoyingly brilliant, secretly gentle, and stupidly attractive boy yours. He caught you staring and smirked before walking over, leaving Jirou by the entrance.

He placed an arm around you, claiming you. The feminist in you wanted to punch him, but you kind of enjoyed feeling the weight of his arm over your shoulder, knowing he wasn't reluctant to show your relationship.

"When are they putting the rankings up? I want to know how much I crushed you and IcyHot." Your momentary pride in your boyfriend subsided, replaced with the familiar desire to best him. You shrugged off his arm and turned to face him, getting close.

"Oh, please. Shouto and I definitely destroyed you."

"No way in hell Ashtray." He stepped even closer, his crimson eyes boring into yours.

"Just remember to practice safe sex you two!" You heard Kaminari's voice to your right and broke away. You both glared at the sparky boy. Bakugou cracked his knuckles and Kaminari hid behind Mina, only poking his head out from behind her hip.

You released a thin tendril and wrapped it around Kaminari's wrists, yanking him to the front. "Denki, please don't hide behind Mina when you say shit like that. You gotta own it," you hissed, a challenge to your tone. Bakugou looked down at you with pride. Kaminari opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted.

"CLASS 2-A!" Present Mic's voice boomed around the small tent. Several students covered their ears.

"Thank you Mic." The tiny principal grabbed a megaphone and clambered onto his shoulder. "I would like to congratulate all of you! Everyone has passed the written and practical exams! You're all well on your way to becoming excellent heroes." Excited chatter and a few whoops emanated from the surrounding crowd.

"QUIET!" Mic's voice instantly silenced the group. Nezu's fur stood on end being so close to the source of the noise. He patted it down, his animal instincts toward grooming too strong to ignore, before he continued.

"Aizawa will pass out your individual ranking sheets." The dark-haired man bobbed throughout the crowd, handing pieces of paper to each student. "Please read them over, reflect, and come back stronger next term. And now, ENJOY YOUR SUMMER BREAK!"

There was a stillness in the air as everyone waited to see if Nezu would say something else, not wanting Present Mic to shout again, but the animal put down the megaphone. At that, a fresh round of cheers and excitement filled the tent. You looked up into Bakugou's face and beamed before a piece of paper was shoved into your hand.

You turned to see Aizawa looking between you and Bakugou with a raised eyebrow.

"Adrenaline?" You gulped and stared at the floor as your teacher passed around the additional papers.

"Let me see." Bakugou ripped the paper from your fingers.

"Hey!" You snapped out of your mortification and grabbed for the page. Bakugou held you at arm's length as he skimmed through the document. You released a thin tendril and snatched the paper back. "It's mine you know." You shot him a small scowl and began scanning the paper.

"What'd you get?" You raised your eyebrows toward Bakugou, hoping you'd bested him.

"I'm still better than you Ashtray." He passed you his paper with a cocky smile. You frowned as you snatched it toward you.

"Barely," you huffed as you handed it back.

"Says the number 4 hero in the class," he mocked.

"Says the guy who's still not number 1," you shot back. You saw a small flash of pain in his eyes at your words, quickly replaced with his usual rage. You pulled back. You didn't want to hurt him. It wasn't fair of you.

"Sorry," you whispered only loud enough for him to hear. "I know how hard you've worked. You should be number 1, no matter what that paper says." His expression softened as he exhaled.

"Hey Dunce Face! Racoon Eyes! What'd you get on the written? I have to know if Ashtray is buying me movie tickets!" He placed his arm around you once more as he yelled out to his friends.

***

Bakugou bought the movie tickets.
