Chapter 16 : Peace once again
13:08, 2 March 2025The palace stood in solemn silence in the aftermath of war. The King coronation ceremony was held in moderatio as new Queen was still unconscious for days after delivering the new heir prince.
It was too early to move on and forget as the scars of betrayal and bloodshed still lingered. The corpses had been cleared, the wounded tended to, and the banners of rebellion burned to ashes. But people were still mourning.
The royal court was gathered in the Grand Hall, their heads bowed in deference as Seokjin ascended the throne.
He stood tall, draped in the ceremonial crimson and gold robes of Joseon's King. His gaze was steely, unreadable, befitting a monarch.
"We have lost much," Seokjin began, his voice firm but laced with the weight of responsibility.
"But we will rise stronger. No longer will corruption and greed dictate the fate of our people. Today, we move forward, with justice, wisdom, and unity."
The ministers murmured in agreement, the loyalists nodding, while the remnants of Seowon's faction lowered their heads in silent submission.
With a final bow from the assembled court, Seokjin was crowned as King.
The Queen Dowager, stripped of her influence, stood at the sidelines, her face pale with resentment. She had wanted the throne for her own.
But within the palace....
"Send for His Majesty!" Lady Hoseok shouted.
When the guard came and said, "the queen is awake", the King ran.
She opened her eyes slowly, weak but smiling.
"Is he...?" she whispered.
Hoseok smiled to Jungkook, "he's coming. He's been waiting at your side non stop. He didn't want to leave you. But..."
"He has duty. He shouldn't neglect them.." she whispered.
Hoseok smiled nodded.
Seokjin openned the door loudly and immediately knelt beside her, holding her hand.
"You're awake."
Tears welled in his eyes though he was smiling.
"Your highness.." she then widened her eyes and said, "forgive me. Your majesty..."
Seokjin watched her, his heart full, "seokjin... call me seokjin... my wife."
Her tears fell, "Seokjin... "
Hoseok returned with baby prince in her arm, "your majesty."
He placed him to Jungkook's arms.
"My wife, he looks just like you."
She chuckled.
"He looks like both of us."
Jungkook looked at Seokjin again and her hand reached to his face wiping his tears, "I'm sorry for worrying you." He shook his head.
"As long as you come back to me." He kissed her forehead, "thank you for coming back to me."
He had spent so long fighting to protect his kingdom, his people.
But now-
This was his true victory.
His wife and son.

The Grand Council convened in the Royal Court, the ministers gathered to witness the final judgment of the new King.
Seokjin sat tall upon the throne, his robes pristine, his expression unreadable. At his side, Crown Prince Taehyung stood, his presence signifying the court's newfound stability.
Before them, Min Yoongi knelt.
His mother and younger sister stood behind him, their faces a mix of emotion-pride, relief, and the weight of all they had suffered.
"Min Yoongi," Seokjin spoke, his voice steady, reverberating through the hall. "For years, your family has borne the weight of false accusations. Your father, Lord Min Seong-Joon, was wrongly executed, his name disgraced. Your family exiled and stripped of nobility."
A hush fell over the court.
Seokjin's gaze was firm as he continued. "As King, I declare that injustice undone."
A court scribe stepped forward, unrolling an official decree.
"The Min family name is restored to its rightful honor. Min Yoongi is granted the highest military position as Supreme Commander of the Joseon Army. His service to the kingdom, his loyalty, and his sacrifices shall not be forgotten."
The ministers murmured in agreement, and for the first time, Yoongi bowed his head, not out of submission, but gratitude.
Seokjin's voice softened. "Rise, Supreme Commander Min Yoongi."
Yoongi stood, his expression unreadable, though a flicker of emotion crossed his dark eyes. He turned to his mother and sister, who lowered themselves into deep bows before Seokjin.
Seokjin stepped forward. "Lady Min," he addressed Yoongi's mother, "the palace has always been your home. Should you wish to return, the doors will remain open to you and your daughter."
Lady Min's eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "Your Majesty is merciful."
Yoongi, however, shook his head. "We will return to our family home, if it pleases Your Majesty. I have much to rebuild."
Seokjin nodded. "Then go with honor, General Min."
Yoongi turned to Taehyung, his longtime ally, and gave him a knowing nod. Taehyung smirked, as if to say, 'It's about time.'
The King then gave another decree.
"Prince Taehyung is returned with rehabilitation of his name. He will returnes to his royal prince and his wife Lady Jimin will be granted as Princess Jimin as it should be."
"Thank you, your majesty," Taehyung bowed to his brother.

The Journey Home
That evening, Yoongi finally fulfilled his long-held promise.
With an escorted royal convoy, he led his mother and sister back to their ancestral home. The once abandoned Min estate stood before them, its halls untouched since their exile.
His mother inhaled sharply, gripping his sleeve. "This was your father's dream, to return."
Yoongi didn't answer, only stepped forward and pushed open the grand doors. The sight of dust-covered calligraphy scrolls and aging wooden beams filled him with a quiet determination.
His sister's voice wavered. "We're really home."
Yoongi exhaled, his fingers brushing against the carved wooden pillars his father once touched. "Yes. We are."
The battle had been won.
But his true war, the fight to rebuild his family's honor, had only just begun.
---
The halls of the Inner Palace were quieter now, absent of conspiracies and deceit. But within the Queen dowager's chambers, a storm of emotions swirled.
The Queen dowager was having dinner with prince Taehyung and Princess Jimin.
The child she had given birth to, only to have him taken away.
Tears gathered in her eyes as she took in his strong frame, the lines of hardship on his face, and the unwavering warmth in his gaze. He was no longer the boy she last saw-he was a man who had endured exile, survived betrayal, and returned victorious.
"Eomma," Taehyung whispered. "What's wrong?" He put down his chopsticks and so Jimin.
"You've grown so much," she whispered, her voice breaking with relief. "I thought-I thought I had lost you forever."
Taehyung smiled softly. "Hyung saved me."
Her first son, the child of duty.
Her second son, the child of love.
She clutched Taehyung's face between her hands, pressing her forehead against his.
"I should have fought harder for you," she whispered. "I should have protected you. We have lost ten years. Ten years."
"Eomma," Taehyung said gently, his hands covering hers. "You did what you could."
The Queen's hands trembled. "No. I did not. I let my own husband exile my child."
A tear slipped from her eyes again.
"But I came back. I'm home. With you. That is all that matters."
Her gaze moved to Jimin.
"And you..." she said, turning to Jimin "I'm sorry. You should have a wedding to a prince. Instead, I heard from your father, you ran away from your home to be with Tae."
"Your highness, I..." Jimin turned to Taehyung.
It was supposed a simple dinner. She really didn't expect and a meltdown.
"Did he treat you well?" the Queen asked, her voice softer now.
Jimin's gaze flickered to Taehyung, and a smile tugged at her lips.
"He does, Your Majesty," she answered.
The Queen let out a slow breath, then reached forward, taking Jimin's hands in hers. She took out her hairpin and put into Jimin's hand.
"I've worn this all my life. It was given by my mother when I entered the palace. Take this. Treat this as a symbol of me welcoming you to our family. Now I also have a daughter."
Jimin's eyes widened, her grip tightening.
"I..." she hesitated, tears forming in her eyes. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
The Queen finally allowed herself to smile.
She had feeling guilty for so long.
But today, she finally could forgive herself.
And for the first time in a long, long time, the Queen felt truly at peace.
