Chapter 10

06:43, 22 September 2013

Rebecca’s POV

My eyes fluttered open as I tried to make sense my surroundings. I definitely wasn’t in my bedroom.

Everything slowly came to me as I remembered that I was in rehab in Sydney. That’s when I remembered Michael.  Hadn’t I fallen asleep in his bed last night? If so, how on earth did I get into my own room? Even with his impressive biceps there’s no way he could have lifted me up, much less carried me all the way to my room. I’m way too heavy.

I took my time getting up, as I had no sessions planned for today. By the time I finally rolled out of bed it was already 1 pm. I decided to take a shower, and then slipped on a pair of jeans and a hoodie, letting my curls dry naturally. I gave up before I even looked in the mirror, knowing how unimpressive the outcome of my little applied effort already was.

I walked out of my room and fumbled with my keys, attempting to lock the door . I turned around and fully collided with the blonde haired boy whom I had seen the previous day whilst talking to Michael.

“Hey, you’re Rebecca aren’t you?” He said, with his eyes full of recognition.

“Ah…. Yeah! I’m sorry, but how do you know my name?” I asked confusedly.

“Michael hasn’t shut up about you since he brought you back to your room last night. He’s very infatuated,” He said with a slight throaty chuckle, making me nervous.

I felt my cheeks go red as I stared at him, not allowing myself to speak. He looked at me, seemingly waiting for my reaction and/or response to his embarrassing statement.

“All us boys are chilling in Calum’s room right now, would you want to join us? Michael is in there” He said with a wink.

I really wanted to see Michael, so I nodded my head in agreement, and allowed myself to follow the unnamed boy.

“I’m Luke, by the way,” He said, turning his head to shoot me a smile as we strolled through the corridors. He turned back around and added, as if reading my mind, “I met Michael about a month ago when he arrived” I nodded my head and smiled quickly before looking away from his gaze. He turned back around and we continued walking in a somewhat uncomfortable and awkward silence.

“So… What are you in for?” I say in a nervously joking tone, trying to ease the tension of being with someone I’d only seen from afar.

Luke shot me a questioning look, eyebrows raised

“Well…” He starts, but drifts off quickly.

“I was just joking”  I added, looking at my feet as we rounded a corner into a hallway engulfed by the sound of guitar.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t really catch the tone you were trying to put across.” He said giving me a crooked smile as he opened a door that seemed to be containing the chords that were heard throughout the corridors.

As Luke quickly grabbed his guitar from the floor and joined the other boys, I stood frozen in my steps just inside the doorway.

Michael was sitting on Calum’s bed, facing the window that was positioned on the wall opposite the door.  Calum was sat in the desk chair, facing the same way. Neither of the boys knew I was there, until I let out the cough I’d been containing.

The music ceased at once, and both boys turned their heads. Michael’s eyes widened as he straightened his tall frame, and Calum looked between the two of us with a smirk on his face.

“Hey, Rebecca! Come join us!” Calum said with a grin still looking between me and Michael amusingly.

I flashed him a small smile of gratitude before nervously walking over and standing against the wall. Michael looked at me for a few long seconds before reaching over to grab me by my waist and pull me closer, seemingly trying to indicate that I should take a seat upon the windowsill opposite from where he was sitting.

After a few minutes of chatting and teasing, from Luke and Calum, the boys picked up their instruments and  began playing again. All three of them were amazing. I recognized the chords to ‘All About You’ by McFly, one of my favourite bands. I was shocked when Calum opened his mouth and began singing. His voice was that of an angels, sweet and hinting at a slight lisp that was unnoticeable in his natural talking voice. He was simply amazing. As the boys got to the chorus, Luke, adding a deep and rocky tone to the mix, had a voice that complimented well with both Calum’s and Michael’s raspy, but sweet, voices. Their harmonies were seemingly effortless and they sent a vicious case of goose bumps across my skin.

I’d been looking at the floor during most of the song, but my eyes kept darting up to Michael’s, and each time they were already staring back at me. I felt myself blush once again, something I’d been doing frequently.

As the song finished I just stared at them.

“Was it really that bad?” Luke pondered, as he scratched the back of his neck.

“Are you kidding me?! That was perfect. You boys have serious talent.” I exclaimed, praising their performance.

“You really liked it?” Michael asked, his voice full of nervousness.

“I loved it. Why did you tell me yesterday that you weren’t that good? Michael, you’re amazing! I’ve never heard someone play guitar that well.”

I had momentarily forgotten that the other boys were in the room, until I heard their whispers, laughter and mock disappointment in me for saying that Michael was better than them. I quickly blushed and looked down again.

I felt someone’s fingers pushing my chin up, forcing me to look into their eyes. It was Michael, and he had a big goofy smile on his face. He pulled me into a hug, and then lifted me off of my spot on this windowsill, causing my legs to wrap around his torso.

“Michael! Put me down! I’m too heavy!” I commanded, knowing that there was no way he could hold me much longer.

“What on earth are you talking about?” He asked, a slight hint of anger in his voice, “You’re nowhere near heavy, trust me. How do you think you got to your room last night, anyway?”

“Yes I am.” Was all I could say.

“Well, you’re not. And that’s the end of this conversation.” He said, defensively.

Michael was still holding me, with his arms holding my thighs and mine wrapped around his neck and I felt very awkward since the other two boys were still sitting there.

“Errr… Michael… Could you maybe put me down?” I timidly asked.

Michael’s mouth turned up in a mischievous smile, as he walked over to Calum’s bed.

“3… 2… 1!” He exclaimed as he suddenly let go of my legs, causing me to fall onto Calum’s bed. His plan didn’t quite succeed, as I ended up rolling off the bed and landing on the floor right next to his feet.

I heard the laughter of all three boys echo about the room as I covered my face in embarrassment.

I was still lying on the floor, as I felt a pair of hands grab my feet, and another grab my hands. I let out a shriek as I was lifted up in the air. The boys, who I realized were Michael and Calum began swinging me side to side, as I screamed in between fits of laughter.

Their game was interrupted by a knock at the door. Luke, being the only unoccupied person, went to open it, and was greeted by a worried Gen.

“I heard screaming! Is everything alright?” She asked, sounding panicked.

“Everything is just fine!” Michael laughed.

“Do I even want to know what is going on in here…?” Gen asked.

“I don’t even know myself!” I said, “All I know is that these boys won’t put me down!”

Gen instructed Michael and Calum to put me down, and as she was leaving reminded us that the dining hall closed in half an hour.

“I guess we should go eat then,” Michael suggested.

“Mate, Calum and I ate ages ago!” Luke exclaimed. “How about you and Rebecca go down together?” Calum and Luke looked at each other and then at Michael and I, wriggling their eyebrows.

“Is that okay with you?” Michael asked.

“Yeah, that’s fine” I said with a giggle. Was I really starting to blush and giggle on a regular basis now? What was this boy doing to me?

We said goodbye to the other boys, and headed out of Calum’s room. As soon as the door closed, Michael grabbed my hand, and memories from the previous night flooded in.  We walked through the hall and down the stairs in a comfortable silence, only interrupted when we got to the large, wooden doors of the dining hall.

“I’m sorry about the boys back there…” Michael’s voice trailed off.

“It’s fine! They were just joking and such, ya know?” I laughed.

“Yeah…” He said, with a nervous smile.

“Can we go get food now? I’m starving!” I said, trying to change the subject that had just turned awkward.

Michael agreed, and pushed open the doors, leading me to a table in the back where he told me to wait.

A few minutes later he came back with two plates of pizza. I ate half of my slice, not wanting him to see me eat the whole thing. Michael looked concerned, but seemed to brush it off, as he once again grabbed my hand and led me out to the bench were we had talked the previous night.
