Chapter 8: A Light Too Accurate (Timeline 603)

The portal opened onto a rain‑soaked scrapyard of discarded cartridges. SL4SH felt static crackle across his blade; Fatal Error tasted fresh paradox on the air. Their next ally was supposed to be here.
1 | DX Sonic: A Dead Lead
They found DX Sonic crouched on a pile of game discs, fingers filleting code from each one and swallowing it like wafers.
SL4SH (grim): "We need your speed, not your gluttony." DX (eyes neon‑wild): "Your kernel strings are exquisite. I want them."
Steel and claws slid free—but an electric shot rang out. A gold‑and‑black hedgehog with half‑visor goggles flipped over the mound, twin photon pistols blazing.
Picopine, bounty gunner of the byte frontier, had come for DX's head. Sparks flew as code bullets clashed with devoured data.
Seeing recruitment was hopeless here, SL4SH motioned to leave—until Picopine landed between them, smoke curling from his weapon.
Picopine: "You two hunting gods? Sounds bigger than my contract. Count me in."
2 | Wacky
Their rift deposited them inside Wacky's Candy Carnival, a kaleidoscope park where gravity sang and gumdrop gears spun. Wacky—a pink jester‑hedgehog with cotton‑candy twin‑tails—zipped circles around SL4SH, tossing confetti into his stoic face.
Wacky (giggling): "Turn that frown upside‑down, Slicey!" SL4SH (flat): "I don't do upside‑down." Fatal Error: "We're killing a god. Care to test your jokes on him?"
Wacky's eyes lit brighter than neon sugar sticks. "A god who can't take a prank? I'm in!" SL4SH exhaled through clenched teeth.
3 | The Broken Innocence (NMI)
Their last stop was a shattered stained‑glass chapel where NMI—No More Innocence—crouched, humming dirges while stitching doll heads to his cloak. Raw despair clung to him.
SL4SH recoiled at the aura. "Your lower than any monster that I've ever met."
But Fatal Error knelt—a rarity—speaking through the static:
Fatal: "Pain isn't destiny. Become purpose or remain prey."
NMI's fingers trembled; he said nothing. The team left to hunt the god.
A doll's button‑eye rolled across the floor, reflecting a spark of resolve.
4 | Domain of Blinding Truth
Hyper Accurate Sonic ruled a hall of shifting polygons—every surface mirrored perfect anatomical detail of prey. White feathers sharper than swords dripped holy light; choruses of unseen seraphs bleached color from the air.
Orientation failed instantly:
Wacky's carnival colors inverted; her laughter choked in radiance.
Picopine's visor overloaded with spectral data, shots going wide.
SL4SH's blade reflected the hall's glare back into his own eyes.
Fatal Error's glitch patterns burned under sanctified luminance.
Feather‑blades tore skin and code. Hyper Accurate Sonic floated overhead, divinity glowing.
Hyper Accurate Sonic (choir‑voice): "Witness flawlessness—then die flawed."
As the final killing ray formed, a doll‑stitched cloak interposed—NMI, eyes ablaze with new purpose, shoulder‑ramming the god off‑balance.
NMI (hoarse but steady): "Monsters can change. Watch me."
5 | Second Wind
While Hyper Accurate Sonic clashed with the resurrected resolve of NMI, the others caught breath:
Picopine recalibrated his photon sights to the hall's refracted angles.
Wacky unraveled a confetti cord, braiding it into a prism whip.
Fatal Error mapped the god's attack cadence, turning light values into glitch redirects.
SL4SH closed his eyes, listening—feeling—for gaps in the hymn.
On cue they re‑entered:
Picopine's ricochet shots shattered feather streams into harmless sparks.
Wacky's whip snares rewove mirrored tiles into kaleidoscope blinders.
Fatal Error reversed a holiness burst, splashing purity back onto its source.
SL4SH leapt through the strobing gap, blade poised at Hyper Accurate Sonic's exposed core.
6 | Words Before Deicide
Picopine (spinning guns): "Accuracy's overrated."
Wacky (winking): "Perfection just needed more confetti."
NMI (voice calm): "Monsters rise."
Fatal Error (glitch‑low): "Divinity crashes."
SL4SH (sword glinting): "Judgment arrives."
They locked eyes with the struggling god.
All Five (resounding): "TO DEICIDE!"
Prism light, photon fire, doll‑thread spears, glitch swarm, and the red edge of SL4SH's sword converged. Hyper Accurate Sonic shattered—feathers scattering like burnt snow, hymn silenced.
SL4SH turned to NMI.
SL4SH: "I guess your higher than any monster now."
NMI merely smiled—a quiet, earned thing.
7 | Intercut – The Final Rift
Prime Timeline. The downfall's signal lit the sky. Fatal Error climbed the fortress façade, shimmering trails making handholds. At the summit, a yawning rift flickered—entrance to the architects' chamber.
He paused, glancing back at an invisible horizon of timelines.
Fatal Error (soft): "Good luck, friends... see you at the end."
He stepped through.
