CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX- HYEJIN, I LOVE YOUโ”โ”โ”โ”โ”…โ”โ”โ”โ”…โ”โ”โ”โ”

Riki crashed down hard with his knees on the cold, concrete floor of the hospital and buried his face, over which tears flowed nonstop, in his bare hands.

She's dying...

"Hyejin!" Riki shouted in pain, startling the nurse.

She understood his pain very well. It's hard to slowly lose a loved one through an accident.

The nurse walked up to Riki, who was crying and sobbing. She patted his back a few times. "Hyejin is now in a secluded room, where everything will happen in a moment. I can take you there so you can see her for one last time," the nurse suggested.

Riki nodded sluggishly and stood up. Together they walked to the secluded room that Hyejin was in at the moment.

The room in which it would happen.

-

"Heeseung, don't cry," Hyejin said weakly as the grabbed his brother's hand, who had tears rolling down his cheeks.

Never, ever had she seen her brother cry. Not since childhood. He was always the cold type of person, but apparently when it comes to loved ones, he has a soft spot in his heart for them.

But everyone has that, right?

Hyejin's eyes filled with tears as she rubbed her thumb over his hand. "It's going to be okay. It's better this way," she said as she smiled weakly at him, "Soon everything will be over and life will be better."

Hyejin had an oxygen mask on her mouth, which also made it hard to understand her properly. Next to her was a heart monitor, which showed an unstable heartbeat.

No matter how the doctors tried their best to keep her alive, deep down they knew she was going to die.

Being hit by a car had too much impact on her health...

Heeseung bit his lower lip before bending over and giving his sister a tight hug. Hyejin her eyes now began to fill with tears as well.

She only now realized how hard it is to let go of someone.

She gave her brother a few pats on the back and even though she didn't realize it, a few unsuspecting tears streamed down her cheeks.

She never thought that she would do this after she knew this was going to be the end.

A squeaky door that was opened in the room interrupted the moment between the brother and sister. Heeseung quickly straightened up.

A nurse came walking in. Hyejin her nurse.

"Hyejin, I have a visitor for you," she spoke.

"Let him or her come in," Hyejin replied as she sobbed.

The nurse nodded and bowed before leaving the room again.

Hyejin and her brother both looked intently at the door, wondering who would enter. Meanwhile, Heeseung wiped away his tears, so that he wouldn't appear to be soft.

A foot stepped into the room, followed by the leg, the hips, the upper body, and then the face.

"Riki..."

The door closed behind him and he looked at Hyejin, who now looked on her very worst. Next to her he saw her brother standing there, whose cheeks were red.

But, so were Riki's.

Hyejin would have preferred that Riki not come today. She didn't want to show him how weak she looked right now. It would hurt him. 100%. But judging by his red face, it was already too late.

Riki looked at Hyejin. Tears were already sparking in his eyes when she saw her lying there.

She was thinner than she had been before and seemed extremely ill.

Wow... How such a stupid mistake by him led to something so great.

As a result, he felt nothing but an incredible guilt and burden on his shoulders that would not fall off.

As if it was permanent. The guilt.

Riki swallowed deeply once before walking over to Hyejin and grabbing her hand. "You're leaving us, aren't you?" He asked as he looked at Hyejin.

A tear glistened in Hyejin's eye. Because of that, Riki already knew the answer to his question.

She is really going to leave us....

Riki let a tear roll down his cheek, closed his eyes and bit his lower lip. "Why Hyejin? Why didn't you say anything? Why?"

Now a tear also rolled down Hyejin's cheek.

Heeseung, who could no longer handle the pain in his heart, sat down on the chair next to Hyejin her bed. His leg was trembling over it from anxiety and stress.

It could happen at any moment and he was still not prepared for that. It is his sister, after all.

Hyejin interlocked her fingers with Riki's and looked at him into his eyes. She felt his pain, something she didn't want him to feel.

He shouldn't be in this much pain. Especially not because of her. She doesn't wish that on him. What she does wish for him is just a happy life. Whether that's with or without her.

"I just don't want to hurt you. I don't want to hurt anyone," Hyejin replied as her voice cracked, "That's why I haven't told anyone anything except Heeseung, my brother."

Riki sobbed as he tried to wipe away the streaming tears with his free hand, but they kept coming. It was no use at all.

"I want you to make the best of your life, Riki," Hyejin continued, "Whether that's with or without me. I want you to live happily, make something of it. Promise me that."

The crying boy nodded up and down before leaning forward and placing a kiss on her forehead. "I love you, Hyejin."

"I love you too, Riki~ Ah..." Hyejin hissed in pain as she suddenly felt a huge sting on her heart. She put her hand on her chest and panicked when she felt like she couldn't breathe air.

Riki's eyes widened, not knowing what this meant. "Hyejin, what's happening? Are you okay?"

Heeseung was shocked that his sister suddenly got stinging and stood up. He ran his hands through her long, brown hair. "Take a deep breath, Hyejin. Stay calm."

But she wasn't. She wasn't calm at all. The sting was getting worse.

Suddenly, the heart monitor began beeping, startling the doctors around the patient. They quickly ran to the patient and became stressed.

Never before had Hyejin felt this pain. It was worse than other days. A river of tears rolled down her eyes because of the immense pain.

"What's happening? Hyejin!" Riki shouted.

Hyejin could do nothing but scream in pain. She hit her chest hard with her fist, hoping to get her breathing again that way.

But it just felt like she was running out of air.

Riki and Heeseung both started crying at the same time, seeing how Hyejin was trying to do everything she could to save herself.

"Help!" Hyejin screamed in panic.

The doctors pushed Heeseung aside a bit and took another look at the heart monitor.

"Her heart rate is dropping sharply," one of the three doctors standing in the room spoke.

Riki was startled by that comment and looked at the heart monitor. The lower the heart rate, the more the heart monitor began to beep.

Her heart rate was dropping quite fast. 60, 51, 43, 37, 21...

"No..." Riki said silently to himself, "No... This can't be..."

Riki turned his head towards Hyejin again and gently squeezed her hand. "Hyejin hold on! You are strong! You can do it! Please, stay!"

"Hyejin, take a steady breath. Count to ten!" Another doctor shouted at her, hoping to make her heartbeat steady again.

"Listen to the doctors, little sister!" Heeseung said, "I know you, you are strong enough to survive this. Please, Hyejin..."

The entire room was filled with screams, cries, and beeps from the heart monitor.

Riki's tears just wouldn't stop. He sighed deeply once. "I'm sorry for everything. I wish I was there for you. I wish I was a better person for you. If I had tried harder... Hyejin, I love you."

17...8...0...

... beep ...
