Riki stepped out of the house and then gave a glance over his shoulder, "I'll see you at school, unknown number. "
Jay's eyes widened in shock when he heard what Riki said. Jake looked at Jay, whose fists were clenched and his face grew red from anger and from being caught.
"What are you talking about?" Jay said as he ran towards the doorway, "Unknown number?"
"You know very well it's you, Jay," Riki looked at him in disbelief, "You sent the message through the same phone number as how you are listed in Hyejin's contacts-"
Before Riki could finish his sentence, he received a slap on the cheek, almost causing him to lose his balance and causing Hyejin to almost fall out of his arms.
"And what if it's me?" Jay shouted at Riki, who stared at him blankly after receiving a slap from him, "What if I was the so-called 'unknown number'? What are you going to do about it?"
"Nothing," Riki replied coldly, "I'm not going to stop liking Hyejin. If you get jealous, that's your fault."
Jay was about to give Riki another punch, when Jake moved in front of him and made him take a few steps backwards. Riki turned and walked away from the house, ignoring everything Jay said, and brought Hyejin home.
-
By now it was two days later. It's monday. Another school day.
Hyejin ran to her locker in a hurry and opened it to grab her books.
She was late and she was rushing. The alarm clock hadn't gone off and her brother Heeseung was off early to the airport to pick up their father there from his business trip he had in Japan, so he wasn't able to wake her up either.
And the principal had warned her, one more action like that and she would most likely be suspended, which she didn't want.
She was busy with that in her mind.
She was also busy thinking about Riki, star boy, whom she hadn't spoken to in two days. Not even seen in the street. It was as if he had completely disappeared from her life.
She missed him, and it was only two days.
Suddenly her locker was slammed shut. Hyejin flinched and put her hand on her chest.
"Calm down, it's just me," the person who slammed her locker shut spoke and put his hand on her shoulder.
"Jay? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in class?"
Jay leaned his back against the lockers while Hyejin opened her locker again to grab her book.
"I had to go to the restrooms and then I saw you," Jay replied as he looked up at the ceiling, "I was wondering where you were since you weren't in school."
"I'm here now," Hyejin said as she grabbed her book and closed her locker again, "I'm going to the classroom."
Hyejin turned herself around and took a step forward when a hand grabbed her upper arm, stopped her and turned her around.
"What the hell, Jay?" Hyejin said as she tilted her head irritated.
She wanted to get to class, she was already late.
Jay licked his bottom lip and avoided eye contact by looking to the side, "Do you maybe want to go to the movies together tonight?"
Hyejin chuckled and removed her arm from Jay's hand, "Why are you asking this now? Can you ask this later? I have to go to class, I'll get in trouble."
"Let's talk about this in the cafeteria instead then," Jay suggested.
Hyejin nodded as she smiled awkwardly at him and then ran off abruptly to go to the classroom.
Jay sighed disappointedly to himself as Hyejin left him like that. He watched her run away and disappear up the stairs.
He ran his hand through his hair as he was overthinking,
She probably likes him more. They kissed.
-
"Lee Hyejin. You're late," the teacher said as he tapped his watch and looked at Hyejin irritated who was standing in the doorway with her book clutched tightly in her hands.
The whole class looked up at the doorway and all eyes were now on Hyejin.
"I know. I'm sorry," Hyejin bowed as she apologized to the teacher, who was impatiently waiting for her to sit down so he could continue his lesson.
"Sit down and pay attention. You see, this subject will appear a lot on the exam, so take notes as well. I'm sure someone can explain to you what I have been talking about earlier," the teacher pointed to Hyejin's seat.
She nodded and quickly sat down. She opened her book to the right page and looked to the right, Riki's spot.
But now he wasn't there. He was gone and she had no idea where he had gone. Maybe Riki was sick? Then she couldn't blame him either.
Hyejin sighed and turned her attention to that so-called important lesson instead of Riki's empty spot, who probably wouldn't show up today anyway.
-
Hyejin walked through the hallways of the school, on her way to the cafeteria, since it was recess.
She couldn't stop thinking about Riki. She wanted to text him to ask where he is, but that would seem too stalker-like and forced.
When she arrived at the cafeteria, she saw Jungwon and Sunoo already sitting at a table. She walked up to them, but before she could even reach them, Jay stepped in front of her, almost causing her to bump into him.
"You said we could talk about it now," Jay said as he smiled at Hyejin.
Hyejin stood up on her toes and looked over Jay's shoulder to try to contact Jungwon and Sunoo, but they were too busy with their own things at the moment.
"What were we supposed to talk about?" Hyejin asked as she got back on her feet and smiled back at Jay, knowing damn well that he had asked her to go to the movies with him.
"Have you forgotten already?" Jay chuckled in disbelief, "I asked you if you wanted to go to the movies with me tonight? So, are you free tonight?"
"Uhm..." Hyejin said as she bit her bottom lip while thinking carefully. She really just wanted to like go home after school and knock on Riki's door to see where he hangs out.
She misses him.
But also she felt like going to the movies. She loved doing that.
"Yeah, I'm free."
"Great," Jay said with a wide smile on his face as he suddenly held Hyejin hand and stroked it with his thumb.
Hyejin looked down at their hands, which were touching.
Hyejin looked up at Jay again.
"You know," He began, "I guess you must have heard some gossip about me liking a girl."
Hyejin nodded to let him know that she knew. "Yeah, I've heard that."
"I would like to tell you who I like. Purely because I trust you," Jay said as he slowly became shy.
"Of course," Hyejin chuckled awkwardly as she still felt his thumb brushing over her hand.
"The girl I like... is you Hyejin," Jay said as he let go of her hand, "I like you."
Hyejin sighed quietly as she avoided eye contact with Jay by staring at the ground.
She had to reject someone again just because she liked someone else.
Riki.
Ever since she saw him in the park making eye contact, her feelings had chosen him. Her heart and brain said she liked him more than she had ever liked someone else in her life before.
Her heart had never beaten so much for a boy like Riki. Her heart had never beaten so much in front of a boy like Riki.
Riki, her dream boy, star boy.
Her everything.
"Jay. I have to tell you honestly, I like someone else," Hyejin said as she looked up again at Jay, who was already staring at her with anticipation showing on his face.
He bit his lower lip. He knew. She likes him more. His feelings were correct and he should have listened to them instead of making a fool of himself in front of his crush now. Embarrassing.
"I like Riki," Hyejin continued.
"You like me?" someone behind Hyejin's back said surprised and shocked at the same time.
Hyejin's eyes widened when she heard his voice. Her heart began to beat faster and she felt thousands of butterflies fly through her stomach.
This couldn't be happening right now.
Slowly, Hyejin turned herself around and there he was. Riki.
Riki dropped his bag from his hands in surprise and his cheeks turned red. Both made eye contact before Riki took a step forward and cupped her face in his hands.
"Do you ... like me?" Riki said as he stared Hyejin straight in the eye.
Hyejin gulped as they made eye contact. She saw that Riki his eyes showed pure love.
After waiting for a few seconds, she nodded.
Before she could even say anything, Riki gently pressed his lips on hers.
He kissed her.
He kissed her again, just like in the gym.
And this time, Hyejin felt nothing but the love she felt for this boy.
Riki's lips slowly left hers as Jay stood watching them in shock and Jungwon and Sunoo had noticed this kiss.
Half the cafeteria had pretty much noticed,
dozens of cameras were pointed at the scene. Everyone was filming it.
"Hyejin," Riki began while still holding her cheeks in his warm hands, "I just wanna say that I love you. I love you more than anyone else. You're my everything."
