the last month has been the most awkward month in nanami's entire life. he only conversed with y/n in group settings; not even in class. she only ever wanted to work on their songs when they were studying with their friends. y/n wouldn't even look him in the eyes when she spoke despite always looking into his eyes when she spoke.

nanami wanted nothing more than to hold her, kiss her, or even just sit across from her and have a one to one conversation. she never answers his calls or texts. it started to drive him crazy. he couldn't take it anymore.

he walked into the music room and saw her in their usual seats. nanami made his way to her as she kept her eyes glued onto her phone. when he sat down, he took out his phone and sent her a text.

nanami: so are you gonna keep ignoring me? that's the game we're playing now?

he locked his phone and looked at y/n. he glanced over her shoulder and watched as she looked at the notification and swiped it away. nanami scoffed and leaned back into his seat.

"now, i know you read that shit." he poked her shoulder while talking. y/n turned around and stared at him. even in class, she never said a word. so, it was a surprise when she finally spoke to him.

"i did read it, correct."

"y/n, you can't ignore me forever. i need to know what happened. what did i do?" nanami was desperate for answers, and y/n could see it in his eyes.

"nothing nanami! it's not you, it's me." y/n muttered under her breath.

"you're lying. hah.. if something went wrong between us, it's because i fucked something up. please, just tell me?" nanami sighed deeply.

"i'm trying to help you." she whispered.

"what?"

"nothing. just pay attention before we get scolded."

y/n pulled out her notebook and her pen. she opened a blank page and started taking down some notes. nanami rolled his eyes and did the same. nanami knew more than anybody, that if y/n did not like something, she would end it right then and there. he knew he had to be the reason something happened. he picked up his bag as his teacher started discussing about the project. nanami knew y/n was probably taking notes so he didn't bother doing so. he was frustrated, and decided to blow off steam by texting the group chat.

INSERT COOL NAME HEER

yall meet me in the bathroom near the music rooms

shoko: i'm on the third floor and u got me going all the way to the basement?

gojo: facts

haibara: i'll be down in a minute kento

yuki: me too, shoko and gojo u better come too

shoko: alright kento

shoko: it seems important so i'll be down asap

gojo: omw

nanami smiled after reading his friends' texts and put his phone in his pocket before walking up to the professor. after getting permission to use the bathroom, he headed over to the bathrooms down the hall. he leaned against the wall near the paper towels as haibara and yuki strolled in. they slowly approached him as shoko and gojo appeared as well.

"yo, nanami. what's wrong?" haibara placed his hand on nanami's shoulder.

"yeah, why'd you call us here?" gojo asked with his hands in his pockets.

"wait, where's utahime?" shoko piped up as she noticed that the purplish-black haired girl wasn't here. her presence was honestly needed because she was generally the closest to y/n. maybe she could give some answers.

"she probably didn't check her phone, that fool." gojo rolled his eyes, taking out his phone to message utahime.

nanami's eyes began to well up and he kept sniffling. he looked downwards and started fidgeting around with his fingers.

"well, i think you guys know that y/n and i haven't been talking since the date. i've tried so hard. texts, calls, even trying to speak to her face-to-face. she doesn't wanna talk to me unless i'm around you guys." nanami said while letting out a harsh breath.

"today, i asked her why she wouldn't talk to me. she said it was her problem but i know she's lying. hah... i just fucked up everything again."

nanami slid down and sank to his knees, sitting on the floor. normally, he wouldn't dare to sit on the crusty ass bathroom floor but he didn't care this time. he felt weak. nanami kept rubbing his eyes to make the tears go away but eventually his hands were no match. his tears fell freely and he began to cry.

the room fell into stunned silence as the reality of the situation hung in the air. never did they see nanami cry before. in all the years they have known him, he's always kept his emotions to himself. not once did he ever show a weaker side of him like this before. they all knew something was wrong.

"hey man, you know she does care about you right?" shoko reassured him, kneeling down.

"she doesn't care about me, shoko."

"nanami, cut the crap. have you seen the way that girl looks at you? we can all tell that she likes you back." haibara patted him consolingly on the shoulder.

"look, nanami. i know it has been rough but you're not in the wrong. maybe, y/n does have a lot to figure out. you know she isn't the type to tell someone when she needs help. perhaps give her some time to figure it out." yuki sat down beside nanami, consoling the poor guy.

nanami lifted his head up. his eyes were soaking wet and red as well. he wiped the tears and clasped his hands together.

"you're right." nanami gave a weak smile.

"the best thing you can do, is prove to her that you'll always be there by her side. and that goes a long way." shoko advised.

"we got your back." haibara grinned.

nanami giggled a little, making everyone else laugh. "thank you. i'm sorry for crying, this girl got me in my feels. you guys can leave now. i'm done crying."

"you sure?"

nanami nodded his head and the others made their way out, except for gojo. he grabbed nanami's hands and helped him up.

"nanami? i'll talk to y/n. i've known her almost as long as utahime has. she'll listen to me and hopefully let me know. alright?" gojo suggested.

"thanks, gojo. i really appreciate it." the two walk out of the bathroom and went their separate ways.

nanami tried to dry his eyes as much as he can to mask his red eyes. he has never cried in front of his friends before. he knew they were probably thrown off but clearly they didn't give a fuck. they were right, y/n probably has a lot she needs to focus on and maybe nanami didn't need to get in the way.

nanami walked into the music room and y/n looked in his direction. he watched her sigh as she saw him. it was so obvious to her that he was crying. despite knowing that she couldn't interact with him, she grabbed her phone and started typing underneath her desk. nanami took his seat and felt his phone vibrate.

cutie y/n: i promise, if i can be with you. i would. let me figure this out ^^

he stared at the girl who was continuing to draw on her paper which now had notes on it. nanami couldn't help but smile. his friends were right as usual but it still hurt. at the end of the day, he knew she'll be his soon.

y/n sat in the backseat of gojo's car as he and utahime were in the front. she leaned her head against the window as she watched the two of them bicker. she hasn't been the same since the incident. having to ignore nanami has been the hardest thing she ever had to do. she just wanted to be sitting with him and have him tell some lame dad jokes. or sing to her in the hallways as they parted ways. y/n missed every little moment they shared together. she wished she could end this all; to make it all go away soon.

gojo pulled up to utahime's house as she got out of the car slowly. y/n looked at her best friend; clearly no one told her that utahime wasn't coming over to gojo's house with her.

"um? where are you going?"

"girl, i gotta go help my mom. y'all should go without me."

"i promise i'm a cool guy." gojo said, smiling at y/n. she looked at the two of them and rolled her eyes as she moved to the front seat.

utahime waved goodbye to the two as she walked inside her house. before utahime even entered the house, gojo sped off. y/n and gojo spent the next 5 minutes talking about how ironic it is that everyone lives 5 minutes away from each other.

gojo pulled into the driveway. y/n recognized the building from the party he threw and the few times the group has hung out there. she closed the door behind her and followed gojo.

he gave her a water bottle from the fridge and laughed at her when she said she didn't like doritos. gojo grabbed a bag for himself and the two went to the living room. she sat in the white recliner and exhaled as gojo spoke.

"sooo... you and nanam-"

"okay, i saw this coming. goodbye, i'll walk home myself." y/n got up from her seat after barely a minute of sitting down.

"y/n stop, please." gojo rushed to the door and stood in front of it to block her before y/n could reach the handle. "i wouldn't be talking about it if i knew it wasn't serious."

y/n knew he was right. as much as she hated to admit it, gojo or any of their friends would not have talked to her or attempted to if it wasn't a big deal. she sat back down on the couch and stared at gojo as he talked.

"i've known nanami since high school. in all the years i have known him, i have never seen him cry before. until today. i'm sure you've noticed, right?" gojo scratched his head, staring back at y/n. she nodded, it was heartbreaking to know that nanami cried over her.

"nanami has never felt like he needed to change for anyone. he's so unapologetic. he really loves himself. yet as soon as he found out you were the girl he likes, he knew he needed to change. now, i'm not gonna force you to change your mind. but, just know that nanami really cares about you."

"you don't think i know that? you think i want to avoid him? IT'S NOT MY CHOICE!" y/n's hands squeezed into fists as she let out her anger and yelled at gojo. the last sentence she said confused gojo. he raised an eyebrow while y/n looked to the ground. she fiddled with the rings on her fingers. gojo stood up and approached her.

uh oh, bad decision y/n.

"what are you saying? why can't you be with him? he wants you and you want him. if that's the case, then you guys need to be together. plain and simple."

"IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE! I'M PROTECTING HIM, OKAY?! fuck.." a loud, high-pitched sound travelled up and out of her chest, mixed with frustration, guilt and anger.

y/n knew she said too much at this point. she took her stuff and headed towards the door once again.

gojo shook her shoulders and uttered, "y/n, you can tell me all your problems. i won't tell nanami. just let me know what's going on so i know why you're acting this way."

y/n just sighed deeply in response, "you're willing to lie to your best friend?"

"if it means protecting him, clearly i will."

y/n slid down and rested her head in her hands. she groaned and looked up at gojo who was still standing, "alright. it's not like that bastard is listening in when i'm with other people. as long as i'm not with nanami, i don't think he's listening."

"who's 'he'? what is goi-"

"i have a stalker."

gojo paused and stared at her, at a loss for words. he never heard of people having a stalker if they weren't celebrities. he only thought that stalkers happened in the movies or a weird older tyler, the creator song. gojo sat down across from y/n.

"tell me."

y/n cleared her throat and explained to him, "ever since i moved here, i felt like someone was always watching me. it wasn't until the day after your party where i knew i had a stalker. i got sent pictures of me in my room undressing and in bed. it was like every other day i had a picture of me sent."

"damn, that's fucked up." gojo mumbled.

"and it's not like i knew who it was. the number was unknown. i wasn't planning to tell anyone 'cause you know i hate asking for help. but things escalated, starting from the date me and nanami went on. i went to the bathroom and this guy comes up from behind and grabs me. i literally froze. i couldn't move at all.."

beads of cold sweat began to emerge from y/n's forehead as she continued to explain the situation to gojo. "... he told me that he would kill nanami if he ever touches me again. i can only be with him when someone else is around. shit, i shouldn't even be telling you this. it could put him in danger."

gojo listened to her every word, and he was starting to be worried about his friends.

"i really don't want him to think that i'm ignoring him on purpose. just tell him i got some family shit going on right now. i promise, i'm going to make this all work out in the end."

gojo sat there taking all the information in. y/n knew it was a lot to process so she didn't mind when the two of them sat down in silence for a little bit. he finally sighed and gave y/n a hug. it was warm, reminding her of nanami's hugs. that was all he felt he could physically do at the moment. y/n accepted it, knowing that he was trying to be there for both her and nanami.

"i promise i won't tell nanami but... you have to promise me that if this shit becomes dangerous, you let me know. okay?" gojo warned her.

"everything's fine, for now. he hasn't come near me since but still, it's scary. thanks, satoru."

"wow, i haven't heard anyone call me that in a long time." gojo muttered to himself.

"huh?" y/n tilted her head, she thought she heard the white-haired boy say something.

"nothing. you know, if my best friend's life wasn't on the line, i would've tried to find this dude already."

y/n laughed as the both of them stood up, "you don't have to."

"y/n. i've known you for a pretty decent amount of time now. you're practically my little sister. i'm gonna protect you like a brother would." gojo smiled broadly, ruffling y/n's hair.

she nodded and embraced him one more time, "thank you, gojo. really. i'll leave now, i gotta finish the rest of the songs for the songwriting project."

"i'm taking you home."

he grabbed his keys and they headed out the house. y/n felt some weight lifted off her shoulders but she still didn't feel quite right. she knew she probably put both nanami and gojo in danger. gojo wanted to know, though. as long as he doesn't let nanami know, she'll be okay.

she thought about class today and watching nanami walk in. his eyes were clearly red and glossy from the tears. it's crazy that he never cried in front of his friends but it hurt, knowing that she was the reason he did cry. there was nothing y/n could do, this was the only solution.

gojo pulled up to y/n's house and opened the door for her, like the gentleman he was. y/n instantly made her way to the studio. she logged onto the programme and clicked on her final song that needed to be done for the project. nanami sent all but one song to her. they were pretty good; she underestimated his lyricism. as the song popped up, her phone buzzed. she prayed that it wasn't her stalker but instead, it was a text message from nanami.

nanamin: it's mixed and mastered already. you don't have to do anything more. enjoy the song. i'll see you on saturday at mei's for the video. i miss you so much.

y/n opened the attachment and plugged her phone into the speaker. she played the song and as soon as she heard the first line, she cried.

A/N :
