Chapter 1 - Prologue

I throw Thomas Shelby against the wall. My gun is ice cold in my fingers as I press it against his throat and pin him in place with my hips. I'm angry. Really fucking angry. And it's only getting worse as he raises his eyebrows, glancing with total calm.

"What did I do to you in a past life to deserve this, eh Kimber?" he asks.

I press the gun harder against his skin. "You've done enough in this one."

"You wanted to talk? Fine. Let's talk."

"I'm past talking."

I have a decision to make. A man to kill. I squeeze my eyes shut, too cowardly in this moment to look at him.

But I have to do this.

"I loved you," I whisper.

And then I pull the trigger.
