Annabeth's POV
We woke to the sound of the horn blowing for lunch. We didn't sprint back to our cabins this time. We did hurry, but not as much. When we finally exited the woods, my hand in hers, our second in commands had already lead the others to lunch. I hoped to sneak back into line after parting with Piper, throwing my hair into a knot and trying to brush the rest of the grass off of me. As I tried to slip towards the front, many of my cabin mates yelled my name. With my cover blown I scooped up one of the younger kids and put them on my shoulders, giving anyone who looked about to comment on my appearance a look that could stop an army.
Seating my cabin was as much of an ordeal as ever, putting older kids at every table, making sure no one was eating alone, everything like that. Speaking of sitting alone, Percy looked at me across the pavilion and raised an eyebrow at my messy look. I smoothly flipped him off under the pretense of fixing my neckline. He mocked hurt before mouthing, "We still on tonight?"
"Yeah," I mouthed and gave him a nod. He responded with a thumbs up and went back to eating and pelting jason with blueberries.
Piper's POV
I didn't even try to sneak back into line. I walked straight up to the front and turned around, greeting my siblings with a playful wink and a, "Miss me?" I was sure I still had leaves in my hair and grass stains on my shirt and miscellaneous nature things stuck to my clothes, but I didn't really care. Once to the tables I took my usual spot, on top of the table. No one has tried to stop me yet.
It wasn't too long until I felt something small hit my head. Catching a blur of blue bouncing another direction, I turned to where Jason, and, vaguely, Percy, were sitting, Percy readying another fruit and Jason sending a questioning look my way.
I sent one right back, not understanding until he gestured to his clothes, meaning mine, and to his collar bone, where a fresh hickey must be forming. I saved that information away to get back at Annabeth later. I gestured for him to look at the piece of fruit i was holding and chucked it across the pavilion so that it hit Annabeth.
Looking back that may not have been the best idea but it got my point across and we decided to meet later to talk about it, you know, between plates of flying food. I got hit with a slab of bacon at one point and responded by dumping my drink all over the person who threw it.
The food fight eventual ended, spirits whisking away the mess we made to feed to monsters and sayters and other magical beasts. I went to the showers pretty quickly, along with a tidal wave of laughing students. Its times like these that I remember why I love camp so much.
