Chapter 49 - Studying

The flipping of another page nearly caused me to go insane. My eyes were red and strained from staring at the tiny letters printed on the paper. The dryness in my mouth was begging for a glass of water, but the voice inside my head kept telling me to continue to study.

Finals were coming up. It was the exams that had everyone at school on their toes, besides one student who could care less; Alex. As we sat in the library together, he was carelessly drumming his pencils on the table.

The tapping irritated my wellbeing as I tried to focus. However, the obnoxious act made me boil with annoyance and anger.

Without saying anything, my hand harshly grabbed one of the pencils out of his hands and threw it to the ground. I didn't bother to even glance at him, and quickly got back to my text book.

"Hey!" Alex gasped in the second.

I rolled my eyes, and shot him a quick death stare.

His arms went up in the air defensively. "Okay, okay," he settled with.

Finally, I went back to my studying, relieved that I killed off the annoying sounds. The chapter in the text book had only seemed to get longer and longer with every page I swept. More pages appeared with information I had to know by heart.

It was also getting late. Both Alex and I had been here at the local library since we left school. It was close to being 5pm, and the librarian would be closing up the doors soon.

But I needed to cram in every bit of information before I left to go home, where I know I'll never get enough studying done, rather than being here at the library, where I know I can stay focus (with two or three interruptions by my obnoxious boyfriend).

"Laila," he groaned. "We've been here forever now. Hell, we're the last ones to be in here." he pointed out, his hands gesturing in the air.

He was indeed correct even though I hated to admit it. I heavily sighed and pushed my hair out of my face.

Gradually, I collected all my schools supplies that were dispersed across the table we had been sitting at. First, my text book was placed into my book-bag, then my folders and binder, and lastly, miscellaneous pens, highlighters, and pencils.

I got up, nodding at Alex, who followed my lead.

"Just a minute, I need to check out a book." he stated.

A book? I shadowed behind him to the different towering aisles that were filled with books. It seemed that he knew where he was going, until ten minutes later of trudging behind him, it was clear he didn't have a clue.

Glancing around, it had appeared we were alone, making me feel more comfortable to speak in our surroundings.

"What book do you need, Alex?" I asked, crossing my arms with frustration in my tone.

He shrugged his shoulders and walked down one of the endless aisles. His hand ran through his hair as his eyes glanced upon every book we passed. The brown hair boy was clearly ignoring me, but however, didn’t want to admit something he was hiding.

"Lex," I groaned, grabbing his arm.

Unexpectedly, my back was pinned up against the book self. Alex's body pressed into mine while his hands had a tight grip. A small smile appeared on his lips as they gazed my cheek.

"What are you doing?" I chuckled, staring into his eyes.

"Hmm, you tell me," he smirked.

His lips began to place short wet kisses down on my jawline as his hands traveled down my body, freeing my own to roam his. My hands tugged on his messy hair, knowing that it was his weak spot. His lips would quiver every time my fingertips made the slightest movement on the end of his brown hoarse tips. It was more than just a weak spot for him. He could easily be controlled under vulnerability by having a hand running the brown mess.

Our lips at once collided as our make out session proceeded heavily. Our mouths glued to one another as we couldn't get enough of each other.

"Excuse me!" A rattling older voice called.

Immediately, we pulled away, only to be caught by the librarian. “Oh god,” Alex mumbled.

He licked his lip before moving his attention towards the lady. Her poorly drawn-on eyebrows frowned. She had her wrinkled finger pointing at us in an accusing way,

"Leave this instant!" she barked. She was boiling with anger and shaking when she yelled at us. Her grey hair was pulled into a tight bun as she wore clothes that appeared to be like a time machine from 80's.

Embarrassment and guilt flooded me as I stood there frozen like a deer caught in headlights. Alex's arm draped my shoulders, guiding me towards the exit doors of the building.

Once we got outside, we both burst out into uncontrollable laughter. Our giggling heaved through our lungs as slowly made our way to his car in the parking lot. It was like we both knew how bad our luck was.

"What's up with us getting caught?" Alex wiped a small tear in the corner of his eye. "This is our second time this week." he chuckled.

I shook my head with disbelief from his statement that was sadly true. First, it was Derek, and now the freaking librarian.

Shortly, we got in his car, and drove off. Alex insisted to play some type of indie metal core band on the stereo, which had led to an automatic disagreement. Truthfully, he had just wanted to play the god awful ear bleeding band just to push my buttons; it was his recent entertainment he got out of me.

“What do you want for dinner?” he asked me, changing our subject fast, and making me forget about what we were disputing about in the first place.

“Anything,” I said. “I’m freaking starving.”

We ended up getting McDonalds and I was over joyed to get a Neopets toy along with it. The food was disgusting, reminding me why I hated the fast food joint in the first place.

"So what do you want to do tomorrow after school?" Alex asked, munching on his fries.

"I'll be studying," I stated. I already dreaded the thought of having to study more, but I needed to finish my classes with good grades

"C'mon, take a break, you've been studying for the past three days." he tried to change my mind, but I wasn't going to have it.

"Easy for you to say," I huffed.

  "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means you don't need to worry about your future like I do." I confessed my feelings. "I'm college bound. I need to be college bound. But you, you don't need to worry about that when you have the band taking off."

   "Oh,"

   "Yeah, oh," I breathed.

Silence settled in for a while. Alex's heavy breathing did too. There wasn't anything being said as we drove around town for no reason. Maybe he was trying to create more time before he had to drop me off, maybe he was thinking off a response, or perhaps my predictions were way off. With that mind of his, I was constantly unsure.

"We can hang out at your house and I can help you study." He offered after a while.

I smiled from his proposal. "You don't have to,"

"But I want to." He slipped his hand into mine, keeping his other one on the steering wheel. "I'll just have to leave before dinner time. There's band practice."

   "Fair enough,"

We were gaining closer to my house and a groan slipped out of my mouth.

"What?" Alex raised his eyebrow. "You love me so much that you don't want to leave?" he sarcastically said.

"Eh, not really," I nudged his shoulder teasingly. "I just don't want to see my dad, I guess."

  "Why’s that come?"

   "He finished his book,"

"That's great," Alex nonchalantly said. "Are you going to read it?"

It was the one question I was still asking myself. It was a type of question I couldn't just sleep on. There was too much thinking to it. Reading something of my dad's was never this difficult up until now. I couldn’t even look at the stack of papers, let alone actually read them,

"That's the thing," I sighed. "I can't wrap my head around the idea of even reading it."

"It's just a book. You don't have to read it right away.”

Just a book, but it was my father's book.

Eventually, we arrived to my house. He put his car into park after stopping in the drive way. We both shared the regular ‘I love you’ ritual and after a kiss on his lips, I got out with a small wave before I entered the home. I was immediately greeted by Derek and Caleb on the living room's couch.

They were casually sitting with popcorn in hand while watching the Notebook, stealing a few kisses from each other as I watched from afar. It was still somewhat odd to see them as an actual couple and doing things like any one would do in a relationship. However, seeing my brother happy, giggling and enjoying himself, I decided to leave them be and left to my bedroom upstairs.

I entered my room and it looked like a tornado had stormed through. My bed was unmade, papers scattered the floor including random albums and clothes. There was an inch high amount of dust collecting on my window's blinds, which hadn't been opened in what seemed like forever.

I began to pick things up slowly. I was too tired to clean, but it had to be done. The mess in my room was going to prevent me from even being able to study properly if I left it the way it was.

As I cleaned up, a vibration in my back left pocket occurred, making me reach for the phone.

I flipped it open and was faced with a text from Alex.

Alex - don't study too hard angel, and get some sleep why don't you? A girl like you doesn't deserve bags underneath her eyes ;)

"This boy, I swear," I mumbled after reading the words on the device.

What's up with the winky face usage? It makes everything sexual, you know

I lie down on my bed as I waited for a response. My heart was fluttering and it only further proved how much I loved Alex. Even during my most stressful days and when I was a mess, he still managed to put a smile on my face.

Alex - Idk, just feeling a little spontaneous ;) because you know me, always wanting you ;) ha ;) ha ;) ha ;)

I bit my lip to contain my laughter. This boy, he was surely something else.

Well, go take your winky faces somewhere else, they're a little creepy ;)

Alex - you don't love me :((( I'll take them somewhere else, including myself while I’m at it

I rolled my eyes jokingly even though he couldn’t see me. He was over dramatic in the most hilarious way possible.

Sureeeee, anyway, my homework and food awaits. I'll text you later, babe, love you

Alex- babe?? wht did i say about the cliché pet name, lai, smh I am ashamed, but somehow I still love you

I left the conversation at that point. However, I did gain a chuckle from the text message.

For the remainder of the day, I cleaned, ate, and did a few bits of my homework, and slept with all of having Alexander William Gaskarth stuck in my mind.
