What Does It Mean?

We walked on… And on… and on… and on! It was very boring. We had been going for three days, and it was no dark and dingy I didn’t think my eyes would ever recover. I walked with Legolas right behind Gandalf. It was quite scary down there. 

“The wealth of Moria was not in gold. Or jewels. But in Mithril.” Gandalf said feeling the wall. I nervously fingered the tiny ring on my hand knowing that it came from a cave similar to this one.

 It emitted a soft glow which I found out I could control, when I was upset, angry or sad it didn’t glow much. But when I was happy or any other strong positive emotion it glowed brightly. 

Legolas slipped his hand into mine. It was a small action but it took its pole. My mind filled with questions. 

Why was he holding my hand? What did he wish to accomplish? Did he think I was scared? Did I like it? Did he see me as a friend? Or a partner? Or wife-material? Or did he see me as a sister? Most importantly, DID I LIKE IT?

I mulled it over in my mind. My mulling was interrupted when I heard Gandalf speak again.

“Bilbo had a shirt of Mithril rings, that Thorin gave him.” 

“Och…That was a kingly gift.” Gimli said. 

“Yes. I never told him but its worth was greater than the Shire.” Gandalf said. 

We walked some more and then came to these giant steps we had to climb up. Legolas let go of my hand and I involuntarily frowned. My hand felt oddly…. Cold and naked. 

We climbed up the stairs slowly and finally we reached the top. There were three doorways next to each other in the circular cave-room. There was a stone in the middle of it. 

As I was busy looking around and not to where I was going I crashed into Legolas. He turned around and smiled. I smiled back at him a little cautiously. He sneaked his arm around my shoulders. I leant my head against his shoulder and smiled contently.

I looked ahead to what Gandalf was doing. He looked very concerned. 

“I have no memory of this place.” He said.
