Jeremy and Bonnie were down in the basement, still flipping through the pages of old Grimoires desperately trying to find the solution for their problem. They had to keep Elena alive, no matter what.
"This is useless. There has to be something in here to ensure Elena will not become a vampire."
"Trust me, we'll keep looking. Until the last minute if we have to" reassured Bonnie when suddenly they heard the voice of Malik in their head.
"I'm on my way there. Tell Emily I need her help before you go off to fight Klaus."
"Malik?" asked the duo at the same time looking at each other then around the room half expecting the warlock to appear there.
"Please do this form me, I don't have much time. I will need her guidance to pull this off."
Malik was anxious to get there with everything that was happening around him. The dark magic seemed to be taunting and spreading in him, all the meanwhile his newly returned magic was erratic and impulsive. He had to release it as soon as he could but without Klaus or his witch's knowledge.
As he walked ahead he had no phone or anything to contact his friends but looking down on his fingers noticed his fingers remained tainted black. He could feel his magic was rumbling inside him, getting to Bonnie was his priority. He only trusted Bonnie to channel his power.
The moment he got to the run down house he noticed Bonnie talking to Stefan and Elijah.
"Why did he take Jenna?"
"A punishment for meddling" came the calm answer from Elijah.
"Then we need to go, like right now! Before Jenna is sacrificed. I can kill Klaus myself."
"Bonnie... If you use that much power, you'll be dead. We've already been through this. It's not an option."
"Neither is letting Jenna die" argued the Bennett witch when Elijah interrupted their argument.
"As fate would have it, Stefan would agree with you."
Bonnie looked confused and turning all of her attention toward the Salvatore vampire Stefan explained himself to Elijah's comment.
"We're going to offer another vampire. One that he'll want more. Me."
"What makes you think he wants you more?" came the voice of Malik, surprising all of them.
Elijah and Stefan had a relieved smile on their faces when Bonnie suddenly rushed to her brother and jumping on him began crying.
"I was so worried about you."
"I know" responded Malik and hugged his sister, but looking up his eyes met with Elijah's and Malik knew the original noticed his fingers but to his delight the original remained silent.
"What about Klaus, how did you escape?" asked Stefan suddenly.
"He doesn't know it yet" came the response and the siblings separated. "When Damon killed his warlock who put the spell on me the barrier weakened and my magic was trying to return. I just had to force through."
"He will not get to you again" promised Bonnie determined to keep her brother safe from the dangerous vampire.
"We have more important things to do" countered Malik. "I think I know a way to save Elena from becoming a vampire... but we need to act fast."
The two of them walked into the house and going down in the basement the boy stumbled and coughed up blood making Bonnie's eyes widen. Catching her brother she was about to freak out when Malik spoke quietly.
"Don't say a word... I'll be fine. My magic is a bit erratic. I need you to channel it to kill Klaus."
"How could I channel you? You're coughing up blood!"
"Because my body cannot contain it, after it was stripped from me I claimed it all back and my body is weakened. I have to use magic but if I release it now Klaus' witch might sense it."
Bonnie just grunted and smacked him gently and the two of them went down in the basement where Jeremy was, upset at first glance considering the news he got from Alaric but seeing his best friend rushed to him and hugging him tightly whispered.
"I'm so glad you're okay!"
"I'm not easy to get rid of" joked Malik and hugged him back, until Bonnie cleared her throat and simply raised her eyebrow at them.
"We have things to do? I thought that waws your priority."
"Right" responded the duo and letting go of each other Malik walked to Bonnie and stopping in the middle they held hands.
Bonnie was reluctant at first but began to channel Malik slowly and she was glad she did that. The boost of magic that shot into her body made her feel weird but good. Powerful. Invincible.
Opening her eyes she looked at Malik who was standing there not even flinching. She began to channel more when the whispers erupted around them, making Bonnie cast the spell from the magic she collected. She suddenly began to see images in her head of fire, three people in circles then suddenly Klaus.
Opening her eyes, she turned to the door where she saw Elijah and spoke immediately.
"Steven's Quarry."
The vampire just nodded and left them immediately to go upstairs. Malik opened his eyes and letting out a sigh he let go of Bonnie's hand and cracking his fingers looked at them and seeing his fingers turn back to normal slowly got him to relax.
Seeing the Grimoire, he walked to it and opening it began to look through.
"We have already looked through it Mal" came the gentle voice of Bonnie. "We are waiting for the journals to see if we are right."
Malik did not respond just kept looking until he stopped and looking up he began to focus his energy.
Closing his eyes he held the Grimoire out and began casting his spell. Bonnie and Jeremy only looked up when suddenly the candles lit up all around them brightly and whispers surrounded them all.
Bonnie was about to interrupt him when they heard footsteps and John walked in there holding a cardboard box.
"I brought the Gilbert journals. I have an idea of the spell you're talking about."
"Where's Damon?" asked the girl carefully.
"Upstairs, Alaric wanted to talk to him about the recent developments."
They began to take the journals out of the box and flip through them searching for answers regarding the spell Bonnie and Jeremy found while John looked up and looking at Malik spoke quietly.
"What's he up to?"
"I think he's talking to our ancestor" Bonnie seemed unsure but Jeremy and John accepted the answer and returned to the journals.
"Got it" came the voice of Malik suddenly surprising them all and making them stop in their search.
"What did you find?" asked Jeremy hopefully but Malik wasn't exactly happy, his face was serious and cold, the warlock simply walked towards them when John spoke up but kept his eyes on the journal.
"Can you cast the spell?"
"Yes."
"That's all that matters" responded John and left to get Damon.
Bonnie picked up the journal John left behind and looking through it she found the part about the spell she looked up and she finally understood why Malik was quiet.
Soon enough Damon arrived as well and leaning against the wall indicated to the group to began talking Bonnie took the lead on the conversation as Malik was sitting against the wall and kept his eyes closed.
"We found something in the Gilbert journals."
"Johnathan journaled the story of a mother who called on Emily's help. The woman's baby was sick, dying. Emily cast a spell that would bind the woman's life force with her child" came the explanation from John but Damon looked unimpressed.
"Skip to the save Elena part."
"Well, the child died, but the mother's life force flowed through her, restoring her to life."
"We already know Elena's going to come back to life. But she'll be a vampire" interrupted Jeremy but John responded immediately.
"Not if her soul remains intact."
"Her soul? Really?" came Damon's sceptical tone looking at John then the others. "You're going to put your faith in some act of god nonesense?"
Malik slowly opened his eyes and watched as John walked forward to Damon, closing the gap between Damon and himself and his voice was both determined and threatening. Not leaving any room for argument.
"I refuse to let Elena become the thing I've spent my life protecting her against. And you can call that God or mystical energy, whatever you want, but yes... I'm putting my faith in it."
John turned around and walked back towards Bonnie and Malik, that was the point when the boy finally got up and pulling a chair in the middle indicated the man to take a seat.
Once he was sitting there Bonnie looked at Malik who just nodded and placing his hands placed on either side of John's head began chanting the spell.
Jeremy and Damon stood by, watching the warlock cast his spell while Bonnie kept her hands on his brothers shoulders, making sure his magic remained controlled.
Damon, becoming impatient, snapped his fingers while spoke in an annoyed tone.
"Come on, Malik. We have a hybrid to kill."
Bonnie looked over his brother's shoulder and gave a warning look while Jeremy also looked back at Damon, signalling with his hand for Damon to be tolerant of the situation.
Not long after that, Malik opened his eyes and spoke gently.
"It is done."
"That's it? Great! Then let's go."
Damon walked out of the room immediately not even waiting for the other, John opened his eyes as Malik walked past him ready to leave when Bonnie turned to Jeremy and gently touched his arm.
"I'll be back soon."
Before she could have left he reached out to her and grabbing her arm stopped her immediately.
"Wait, what do you mean? I need to be there. I need to make sure you all are okay."
"And who's going to make sure you're okay?" argued Bonnie without hesitation.
"I've got my own ring. Look, I'm not taking no for an answer."
Malik just smiled and turning away waited while Bonnie kissed Jeremy goodbye. He knew instantly that she wasn't going to let him put himself in danger. She pulled away and Jeremy smiled at her, but that faded away as he began to feel weird and week, his face turned confused and started to fall to the floor.
Luckily John grabbed him before that could have happened and lead him back to a chair.
"Easy, easy" he turned to the Bennett duo with a determined look. "Just go. I'll stay with him."
Bonnie looked at Jeremy one last time before turning to her brother grabbed his hand and exited the basement after Damon.
The girl thought that Malik was going to make a comment but nothing happened. Looking at her brother the boy seemed calm and collected, not at all like they were about to go and kill a 1000 year old vampire.
As they got upstairs Alaric and Elijah was standing there, the two of them turned to the trio and Elijah was the first to speak up.
" It's time. We better leave now."
They began to walk out, Bonnie and Damon just exited without even looking at Alaric while Malik stopped for a moment and began walking out with Elijah Alaric right behind them.
"I got the weapons in the car" commented Alaric and looked towards his car.
"Bonnie and Malik are the only weapons we need" stated Elijah not even turning to look at the hunter.
They walked out the doorway and Alaric followed behind them but when he tried to exit the house, he bounced back because of the invisible barrier. He looked confused for a second but then he instantly realised what was happening.
"Bonnie! Malik! What is this?"
Bonnie stopped and looked back at him while Malik continued to walk with Elijah.
"I'm sorry, but I can't put anyone else at risk."
"I can't stay here with Jenna out there! You can't do this! Damon?"
"Sorry, buddy. She's right."
"No! You can't do this. Bonnie!"
They heard him for a little longer but as they entered the woods his voice gotten quiet and Elijah looked at Malik and spoke gently seeing his face and struggle to keep his visions away.
"You might not want to shut it out."
The boy just raised an eyebrow but did not answer, looking ahead let out a sigh and stopped resisting. Immediately images began to run through his mind, from all around them, until Bonnie put her hands on his shoulder and spoke gently.
"It's okay Mal... just focus on me."
Hearing her voice the boy began to pull towards her voice, arriving in the present he had a flash of image of Jules on the ground with a whole in her chest.
"The werewolf is dead, the vampire is next..." commented Malik his eyes glowi9ng golden as he watched the sacrifice take place.
"Who is it?" asked Damon but his voice broke for a moment.
"I don't... " started Malik when suddenly pain washed through him and the cold sensation of death, fear and worry all began to suffocate him.
They all looked at each other and began to move quickly.
Standing in the distance Elijah and Damon stood behind the witches and Bonnie waited while Malik kept his eyes focused.
The older Salvatore was getting impatient, began to pace around when Malik looked up at the moon and a tears began to fall from his eyes and turning to Bonnie just nodded. The three of them walked off immediately while Malik returned to his focus on the things that were happening.
" I can feel it. It's happening."
Klaus looked up at the full moon eager for his own transformation.
Suddenly, his bones cracked and the transition began.
His eyes became yellow like a werewolf's, but he still had the veins under them, like a vampire.
"Yes, yes!" exclaimed the hybrid to be excitedly.
Right in that moment Malik connected himself to Bonnie and he released his magic in its entirety and began chanting.
Suddenly, Klaus was thrown through the air and all the flames reignited around them and then the flames in the bowl too, startling Greta who had no idea what was happening.
Greta heard chanting, turning her head noticed Bonnie coming down the hillside, chanting a spell. She slowly raised her hand ready to attack her but before Greta could react, Malik simply flicked his wrist, snapping her neck.
The lightning storm above them erupted, the wind was powerful, Bonnie just continued to chant, attacking Klaus with everything she had. She felt Malik doing the same from the distance, their magic combined with the power of the dead witches was immense, not even Klaus could withstand it.
Damon rushed to Elena and picking her up slowly began to walk towards Stefan.
"No! You were dead!" shouted Klaus in pain looking at Bonnie.
The witch continued to chant the spell, making Klaus' body contort into painful shapes as he screamed. Not sparing him fo0r even one moment. She had far too much to loose. Her brother, her friends... No. She had to push the original to his limit.
Malik did not stop, his magic oozed out and powered Bonnie's spell even more. That is until suddenly things froze and he saw his own body standing there looking ahead, which surprised him and began to look around. He saw how Bonnie was standing at the bottom surrounded by other witches but turning back saw someone else standing by his body.
Looking at the boy his eyes widened and moving closer spoke carefully.
"Are you James? Emily's brother?"
"I was wondering if you would be able to see me... it seems our powers do connect us" smiled the boy and turned towards him.
"How can you be here?"
"I went out of control... We reached the house but it was too late. So instead of destroying everything my magic was released there and connected all of the witches, allowing them to communicate with each other."
"I see" responded Malik. "Are you here to warn me?"
"No. After all... you are the first anomaly to make it this long and continue to control this power we couldn't. But it will bear a deep price."
"Oh don't" sighed Malik with a tired tone. "I hate this already."
The older Bennett chuckled and stepping closer both of them looked down to the witches when James continued quietly.
"Family is strength, perhaps our greatest ally... and also the one that can push us into the deepest abyss. Never forget that."
Before he could have said anything he was pulled back into his body and once again he began to feel everything around him and the events of the fight were once again visible to him.
Damon finally arrived with Elena's body to Stefan and laid her down next to him. Stefan gently grabbed her arm and looked at the girl.
"Elena"
Damon kneeled down and ripped the remainder of the stake out of Stefan's back, making him grunt in pain. Damon grabbed Stefan's shoulder, trying to help him up, but Stefan turned and looking up at him grabbed a hold of his jacket stopping him in his activity.
"I need you to get her out of here!"
"What about you?"
"I'm not leaving until he's dead. Go!"
Damon picked up Elena's body and carried her away while Stefan sat up and watched the events unfold in front of him. Bonnie continued to chant the spell, Stefan's eyes widened as he began to see flashes of Malik standing next to Bonnie, both of them chanting the spell which was so powerful that trees began fall and made the sky rumble stronger and stronger by the minute.
Klaus screamed in pain lying against the rocks, that's when Elijah finally approached him and the Bennett witches stopped chanting. Once that was done, Malik took a deep breath and focusing his energy closed everything off and turning away walked back to the witches house.
Malik stood away from the others at the funeral, he didn't even want to attend seeing how everything brought memories up for him, but because of Jeremy he wanted to be supportive. Standing there Bonnie hugged and comforted their friends, the young warlock just stood there and watched the funeral until he locked eyes with Damon.
So much death and pain going around and at the end of the day they were unable to kill Klaus, thanks to Elijah saving him in the last minute for the promise of being reunited with his family. The spell Malik performed for John was successful, thanks to that Elena came back as a human and not a vampire... but for exchange of his life force.
And it wasn't over yet.
Tyler bit Damon, it seemed know one knew about it yet, Malik stayed quiet as it seemed Damon wanted to stay quiet about it. Throughout the funeral Malik kept glancing at the vampire but then back to his friends. He only left the place once Stefan walked to Damon and they began talking, since everyone was leaving it seemed Damon opened up, given the fact he showed his arm to his brother. While Stefan looked at it Damon turned and looked at Malik for a moment before he turned his attention back to his brother and Malik left to join his friends.
He was worried.
Clearly Klaus wasn't around yet as he did not discover the disappearance of the warlock and Malik had to make sure to hide. Currently he was safe around Bonnie as even the hybrid wouldn't dare to attack the witch. Their combined power was still devastating and even he could not withstand it.
However to be on the safe side Malik spent a lot of time at the witches' house. The dead witches weren't exactly happy with Malik using them to break his seal but to ensure his abilities weren't used by Klaus was more important to them. That was maybe the only reason why they used their power to protect the warlock.
He was sitting there quietly, going through Grimoires when Bonnie entered soon enough but to his surprise Stefan appeared as well.
"What's going on?"
"Stefan is looking for a way to save Damon" answered Bonnie carefully and unsure. "He was hoping the witches could help."
Bonnie began to light the candles while Malik looked up at Stefan but didn't smile just spoke gently.
"I'm not sure this is going to work."
"I'm sure the you both have done a séance before. Right? Maybe one of the witches might know how to help Damon."
"Let's just hope they want to" commented Bonnie and closing her eyes began to whisper a spell.
The candles in the room suddenly started burning, voices and whispers erupted all around them, Stefan seemed concerned while Malik just began focusing on the voices.
"Bonnie?" asked Stefan when suddenly the girl opened her eyes and spoke.
"Emily" Bonnie closed her eyes and once she opened them again her face changed and Malik felt a different magic around his sister, even the voice changed slightly. "Why have you come here, Stefan?"
"I need your help. I need to know if there's a spell that can heal a werewolf bite."
"No. Nature ensures a balance to everything."
"Is that true or are you just saying no because it's Damon?" questioned Stefan immediately and seeing her face Malik noticed her cold demeanour.
"Perhaps it is his time to die."
"No. That's not balance. That's punishment."
"I will not give you what you want."
"Which means there's an answer to give. Please, if you know something, just tell me. Help me save my brother."
Before Emily could have even answered suddenly the witches cut them off, making Bonnie suddenly hold her ears and scream in pain, falling to the floor. Malik was quick to move and taking a hold of his sister helped her to get up.
"They don't want us here. They think I'm abusing their power" explained Bonnie.
"They know something. They just don't want to tell me" responded Stefan worried. "Is there any way we can get some answers out of them?"
"I heard them say a name" spoke Malik earning their attention. "They said... Klaus."
Stefan had a worried look on his face but nodded and the two of them walked out of there. Bonnie went to join the others while Stefan wanted to talk to Elena about everything that happened.
Malik closed the Grimoire and letting out a sigh he leaned back and closed his eyes before he began to whisper the moment Bonnie and Stefan left he house.
"This must be a cruel joke from mother nature... I foresaw this and still couldn't stop it."
"Your gift is both a blessing and a curse" came the voice of Emily. "No one can change the future, not even you."
"But if I could have... Klaus would be dead and the balance wouldn't have tipped. Who knows what's going to happen now?"
"Be patient, Malik. It's not over yet."
The boy kept his eyes closed and listening to the whispers of the witches he slowly fell asleep, and for the first time in a long time, he could dream and be peaceful.
The witches used their power to harness the boy's power allowing them to see everything, in exchange Malik was able to sleep and dream of happy things.
But it could only last for so long.
As the night has fallen he was pacing up and down.
The witches channelled his clairvoyant powers and informed him about Damon becoming more and more ill and Klaus was already aware of the warlocks' disappearance but wasn't looking for him just yet. But that didn't mean he could use his powers to check on his friends. The witches did not allow him.
But there was this bad feeling that he could not explain.
It only became real when Alaric and Bonnie rushed in with Jeremy in his arms, blood on his chest.
Malik's head began pounding and looking at them demanded answers immediately.
"What happened?"
"The sheriff shot him by accident but Bonnie said—"
"I can save him. There's a spell for it if they'll give me the power to use it."
Jeremy's head was on her legs and putting her heads on Jeremy's head she began to cast the spell, making the candles in the room start burning brightly. Voices of the Spirits whisper around them.
''Victus Phasmatis Ex Eleto. Revertas Phasmatis Ut Victus. Victus Phasmatis Ex Eleto. Revertas Phasmatis Ut Victus..." Bonnie opened her eyes and whispered desperately. "No"
"What is it?" questioned Alaric.
"They're angry at me for coming back here. They don't want to help."
"Well, they have to! He's just a kid. Tell them to shut up!"
In that moment Malik gritted his teeth and tears were falling from his eyes, walking to Bonnie dropped on the floor and holding onto Jeremy's hands began chanting immediately, letting his magic out looked up. They all looked at the boy and Bonnie sent a grateful smile and began chanting again.
"Victus Phasmatis Ex Eleto. Revertas Phasmatis Ut Victus. Victus Phasmatis Ex Eleto. Revertas Phasmatis Ut Victus. Revertas Phasmatis Ut Victus. Victus Phasmatis Ex Eleto. Revertas..."
The building began shaking and both of their nose began to bleed while the noises turned to shouts and yells while Malik continued to chant, however Bonnie looked up with tears in her eyes.
"Emily! I know you're there. Please help me. I love him."
Suddenly everything stopped, the candles went out, Malik inhaled deeply and falling back a bit began panting and shaking. Alaric looked concerned looking at the kids in front of him, but Malik began to smile and Jeremy opened his eyes.
"Bonnie?"
"Jeremy! Oh, thank God."
"What happened?" asked Jeremy confused and looked around.
"Doesn't matter. You're okay" reassured Bonnie and raising her head looked up and whispered gently. "Thank you."
Once they got everything ready Alaric took Jeremy home while Bonnie walked out of the house to let Caroline and her mom know that everything was alright.
Once the girl left the building some candles lit up behind the boy and he slowly turned around.
"Thank you again, Emily" spoke the boy gently.
"There will be consequences... serious ones" came the voice of the witch in his head but the warlock smiled warmly.
"I know..." responded the boy, his voice tired. "We will face them like we always did."
