Malik and Bonnie arrived early in the morning to the Salvatore Boarding House, Elena asked them to be there as she was going to become the sole owner of the house.
After she got kidnapped by Isobel and Katherine was taken by Klaus it seemed the Bennett witches had to remain close to her.
"Please sign here and here" asked the lawyer pointing at certain points of the document, Elena took the pen and looked at it.
"Okay."
"So this place is all yours? They just gave it to you?" asked Malik somewhat surprised.
"For now. As sole owner, I'm the only one who can invite a certain type of person in here, if you know what I mean."
"Your own personal safe house" clarified Bonnie gently.
"That's the idea."
Wouldn't want to clean it" commented the Bennett twins simultaneously, making the doppelgänger laugh while they looked around taking in all the space in the Boarding House.
Once all the paperwork was done Elena escorted the lawyer out of the house where the Salvatore brothers were waiting.
Once she left Bonnie turned to her brother and spoke quietly.
"We need to find a way to locate Klaus, I can't do a locator spell even with the witches help but you..."
"I can't, Bonnie" responded the boy gently. "I can't just force myself through the psyche of everyone in Mystic Falls."
"What about Katherine? If she was taken by Klaus..."
"What if she's dead? I will keep my eyes open Bonnie but it's difficult with all the voices..."
"Why haven't you told me this before?" interrupted Bonnie immediately, her voice turning seriously worried. "How long?"
"Since you've gained access to the witches. But don't worry, it's fine as long as I keep it under control and for short time. Now shush before they hear us."
They've collected their stuff and began walking out to go to school, as they got to Elena they handed her the jacket and were about to leave when they got stopped.
"Wait, where are you going?" came the confused voice of Stefan which made the trio look at him.
"To school" responded Elena in a very 'duh' tone.
"No, no, no. We didn't create a safe house for you to leave it" butted in Damon stepping closer.
"Yeah, Klaus is out there. We know that" joined in Stefan, hoping to stop his girlfriend.
"Right. But where?" questioned Elena but seeing that none of the vampires had anything to say she just continued confidently. "Look, I really appreciate what you guys are doing. And I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that I'll be safe here, but I'm not going to be a prisoner. "
"Don't worry, I'm ready" reassured Bonnie. "If he shows his face, I can take him. Know how. And with Malik next to me, he has no chance."
"The way I see it, next to Bonnie and Malik is the safest place that I can be. Come on."
" Wait, um, coming" called Stefan after them and they all left for school.
Once they finally got to school they all shared history together with Alaric, getting tot heir tables everyone sat down in their seats before class starts. Elena took the poster for the 60s decade dance out of her bag and showed it to Stefan with a smile. To her surprise he shook his head in disapproval.
Elena seemed down for a moment but then she turned around towards the Bennett twins and showing it to them both of them gave a smile and nodded in agreement. Seeing that Elena looked back at Stefan and just smiled emerging victorious.
Alaric finally arrived as the bell went off and without looking at anyone began talking.
"Hello, class. What are we learning today?"
"With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the sixties all week" offered Dana immediately.
" Right. The sixties"
He looked at Elena and kept his eyes on her until others began to look towards her as well, Malik just raised an eyebrow seeing the interaction and turned to Bonnie who leaned closer and whispered.
"With the whole thing about Isobel showing up he's got trouble with Jenna..."
"That explains a lot."
He turned back to the man, and for a moment they exchanged a look and Mal noticed how Alaric turned away almost immediately back to the board.
"The, ahem... the sixties. I wish there was something good I could say about the sixties, but... Actually, they kind of sucked. Except for the Beatles, of course. They made it bearable. Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the... we walked on the moon. There was Watergate."
"Watergate was the seventies, Ric. I mean, Mr. Saltzman" interrupted Elena but catching her mistake she tried to avoid looking at the others.
"Right. It all kind of mushes together up here, the sixties, seventies. Thank you, Elena."
The class seemed weird to Malik, he wasn't sure if it was a good thing. He actually paid attention but the class was somewhat chaotic and all over the place not what he was used to. Although seeing everything that was going on with their lives Mal did think it gave him a pass.
But then what was this lurking sensation that gave him the chills?
He didn't have far too much time to ponder about that as things began to escalate quite quickly. He was walking to the cafeteria to have his lunch but it seemed Jeremy was quite upset.
"Did you tell Elena what it's going to take for you to do that Klaus spell?"
"No, and you're not, either."
"Well, she has to know you can't do it."
"You don't know I can't. Have a little faith in me."
"That's not fair. You can't harness the power of a hundred dead witches. It'll kill you."
"Shh! We don't know that for certain. You promised to keep my secret, I'm trusting you. I'm going through with this, and if you tell anyone, I swear..."
" What? What are you gonna do?"
It was slightly uncomfortable, and Malik noticed Jeremy looking at him after leaving Bonnie speechless but as Elena approached them Jeremy remained silent.
" Hey, Jer. How are you doing? Are you okay at the house alone with John?"
"It's not ideal" commented the boy and got up.
"You haven't heard from Jenna, have you?" continued Elena, but it seemed Jeremy was done with the conversation.
"It looks like she's staying on campus. Look I'm late for class."
Once he left Elena sat down and looking at Bonnie asked curiously.
"What's going on?"
"I told him he had to dress up tonight and he got all uptight" lied Bonnie effortlessly, it made Malik both impressed and worried.
Elena just laughed, believing her completely and seemed content even when Dana joined them excitedly.
"Elena! This is so exciting. Okay, this is going to sound a little weird but this totally hot guy just got me to ask you if you're going to the dance tonight."
"Tell him she has a boyfriend. A very dashing one at that" butted in Malik earning a chuckle from Elena.
"You could at least meet him. He'll be at the dance tonight! Look for him, his name is Klaus."
Right in that moment all of their faces changed, the smiles that they had turned to frowns and while Malik and Bonnie exchanged a look of worry Elena began asking questions.
"I'm sorry, what did you just say?"
"His name's Klaus. I know the name's stupid, but I swear he's hot."
"Where is he?" asked Malik immediately while looking around.
"I don't know. But he wants to know if you'll save him the last dance. How cute is that?"
" She's been compelled" added Bonnie quietly.
They were all shocked while Malik just leaned back and once Dana left them Bonnie turned to Malik and spoke quietly.
"Can you find him?"
"In the whole school? I can try but... I wouldn't have my hopes up."
"What about Dana?" asked Elena.
"In hindsight I should have tried it while she was under compulsion. Now that she has completed it... there is a possibility it will not work."
"Let's just try it" spoke Bonnie and they turned to each other. "Channel me while I channel the witches that would give you enough power to do it."
Malik just remained silent but nodded and grabbing Bonnie's hand Elena looked around making sure no one was looking at them. The warlock closed his eyes for a moment before they all felt a wave of energy run through the building like a wave, a few of them pulsed from Malik's body until it stopped and he opened his eyes and spoke gently.
"I can sense a presence but it's very dim. It's similar to Elijah's but... somewhat different. It feels colder. More dangerous. Deadlier."
"Is he still here?" asked Bonnie but the boy shook his head.
"I can't tell you. I tried sensing around the school but it seems every time I'm trying to get closer something blocks me... he might have some help from witches Bonnie."
"We can get him" assured Bonnie and looked at Elena. "Let's go and tell Stefan so that we can all get ready for tonight."
Once Elena explained everything to Stefan they all went back to the boarding house to let Damon know about this new development. Malik just sat down and waited till they went through everything again.
"So we go to the dance, we find him" announced Damon like it was nothing.
"Really? How are we going to do that? We don't even know what he looks like."
"Something tells me he's not going to be sixteen and pimply."
"No, he's not" commented Malik with a small smile, thinking back of the images and memories he had of Klaus.
"He could be anywhere at any time. He compelled somebody at school" he looked at Elena and Bonnie before he continued. "I guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?"
"She was still safer with us then would be with the two of you" remarked Malik. "He had to get someone else to get near us. With you there? He could walk up and not even flinch."
It seemed Stefan and Damon wanted to say something, but before any of them could have said a word there was a knock on the door and Alaric walked in.
"There you are" spoke up Damon immediately. "I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move."
"Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm? What's our plan of attack?"
"Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him" spoke up Bonnie immediately.
"That's not going to be that easy. I mean, he is the biggest, baddest vampire around."
"Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he..." agreed Damon and he rushed at Bonnie suddenly, trying to catch her off guard but she threw him to the other side of the room with her powers, without touching him.
Both Elena and Stefan seemed impressed by that while Malik clapped his hands in amusement, enjoying every second of the performance.
" Well, I was impressed" announced Stefan before Bonnie began to walk closer with confidence.
"It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me. I can kill him, Elena. I know I can."
"And what about..." started Alaric carefully and looked at Malik.
All of them turned towards the boy who just leaned back and his eyes had a glow appear in them. Suddenly he managed to darken the room, yet made all the flames flare up but then everything returned to normal and Bonnie walked closer to him and putting her hands on his shoulder spoke up.
"Mal will be with me. With the power I can channel Malik can find Klaus if he dares to show his face. Once we find him, I can take him down."
Mal just smiled at Bonnie before turning away he looked elsewhere, until Bonnie decided it was time for them to leave.
Once they got ready they were waiting in front of the school with Jeremy, Malik decided to wear a bit colourful outfit, but subtle enough outfit.
As they met up with Jeremy it seemed he was still in a bit of a frenzy over the witches' warning, which is why Malik stopped and let them talk but did not stay too far from them
"Wait" spoke Jeremy and looked at Bonnie, taking off his ring handed it to her. "Look, I, um, I want you to have this."
" If you're asking me to go steady, I think that was the fifties" joked Bonnie looking at the ring, Malik tried so hard not to laugh, he just turned his back to them and tried to keep his cool.
"No, I'm serious, Bonnie."
"The ring won't work on me, Jeremy."
"But it was made by a witch" argued Jeremy looking at his girlfriend but Bonnie just smiled and placed her hand on his. "I can't just let you get yourself killed."
"Just because a bunch of dead witches gave me a warning doesn't mean I'm going to die."
"Are you're saying there's a chance you won't? Look, I'm sorry. But I don't have the best luck in the girlfriend department."
In that moment Bonnie realised why Jeremy was so worked up about this. Vicki died, Anna died. Malik just let out a sigh while Bonnie placed her hands on the boy's check and spoke in a soothing voice.
" Hey. Listen, I can't explain it. But I can feel them, I'm empowered, Jeremy. I know I can do this, I'm strong enough."
They embraced each other and even Malik turned around but in that moment they noticed Damon appear who just gave a smile and looked around but both Bonnie and Malik realised he eavesdropped on the conversation.
"Damon" spoke Bonnie making Jeremy turn around as well while the vampire just pretended nothing happened.
"Evening."
He went inside almost immediately but then Elena and Stefan arrived and joined them.
"Hey you. Oh, you look nice" she embraced Bonnie immediately while Malik just smiled at them.
"You guys ready to do this?"
Malik and Bonnie nodded and then Malik turned around and began walking in. Inside everyone was dancing and while they were walking through he crowd Dana went onto the stage and spoke into the microphone.
" Thanks for being here, everybody. We have a special shout-out tonight. This is for Elena. From Klaus."
Right in that moment a song started playing, 'Dedicated to the one I love'. Hearing the announcement and the song Elena seemed stunned.
"That was a lame, cheap shot. He's just trying to bait us" announced Damon looking at everyone.
"I know everyone here" spoke Elena immediately but still kept her eyes on everyone.
"Maybe he's not here. Just wants us to believe that he is" tried Stefan but it did not seem to work on any of them, which made Damon speak up almost immediately.
"It's a party, people. Blend. Let him come to us" announced Damon and grabbed Malik's arm gently, earning a warning look but the vampire just kept smiling nonchalantly.
"Good idea" spoke Bonnie and grabbed Jeremy immediately and began dragging him to the dancefloor."
"No, I really don't feel like dancing" argued Jeremy and looked at Malik who was just as stunned and worried, having Damon start pulling him to the other direction.
"There's Ric. We'll be back" Damon dragged Malik with him by his hand which made the warlock flabbergasted but kept going with him.
Once they reached the history teacher Malik was silent, stood between Damon and Alaric looking at the students int he room, but luckily to him Alaric spoke up immediately.
"Special dedication, huh? This guy's a little twisted."
" I'm not impressed" remarked Damon not even looking at him, he just scanned the crowed. "Let me know if you see anything."
"What about you?" asked Ric after Damon left, looking at Malik who just shrugged.
"As much as I don't like him he does have the knack for dramatics. Diabolical and dramatic. I'd have been disappointed otherwise."
Before Alaric could have said anything back Damon came back and grabbing the warlock's handpulled him away to the dance floor and they began dancing.
They both remained silent just continued to dance until Damon spoke up.
"Why did you lie to your sister."
"You have to be more specific" responded the boy with raised eyebrows.
"About you needing her to find Klaus. I knew Emily and her brother. If you're just half as powerful as he was you could easily find him."
"Not without destroying everyone else around me" argued the boy and looked him in the eye. "Besides, Bonnie doesn't need to know. She worries enough, I don't need her to worry about me."
"Is this about you loosing control and evidently dying?"
Malik just looked at him and seeing his face Damon changed his facial expression but Malik saw it and decided to comment on it...
"Careful Damon... I might actually believe you're worried about me. Now about Klaus..."
He closed his eyes and Damon watched as the boy's eyes became completely white and even felt the waves emitting from him before his eyes returned to normal and he spoke quietly.
"He is here... I don't know where, but I can tell he is here and watching us all... but because of his witch or witches, I can't tell the exact location."
"That's enough for me. Oh, would you look at that... you might want to catch up Barbie on the happenings."
Turning around Malik noticed Caroline and Matt enter the room, in that moment he left Damon and began walking towards them.
" Hey, guys" spoke Malik with a big smile.
" Hey, man, what's up?" asked Matt with a smile.
"Do you mind if I steal your date for a moment?" asked Malik carefully but Matt seemed to be fine with it.
"Not at all. I'll get us something to drink."
"Thanks" spoke Malik and Matt left after that, allowing the warlock to began dancing with the blonde vampire.
" What's wrong?" asked Caroline confused.
" Klaus is here" announced the warlock shocking the vampire instantly.
" What?! Where?"
"I have no idea. But keep your eye out for anything odd okay?" asked the boy and the two looked at each other. "All I need you to focus on is protecting Matt. I have my hands full with my sister and the others... it would mean a lot of you could protect Matt.
Caroline nodded and they continued to dance a little longer while both of them looked around trying to spot anyone new or suspicious.
After a while Matt returned since it seemed Stefan abandoned his duty to keep him occupied long enough for the warlock to talk to Caroline the moment Jeremy wanted to talk to him. This which meant Malik returned to Bonnie and they just observed everything. They watched as everyone was dancing, seeing Damon dance with two girls the duo just smiled and let out a snort until suddenly Elena ambushed them.
"I need to talk to you both."
The twins exchanged a look, but they followed Elena, Malik turned and saw Stefan walk to Damon. He knew immediately what it meant.
Jeremy told Stefan about Bonnie and the witches' warning.
They went outside and as they were walking around away from everyone Elena finally began to scold them.
"How could you not tell me?"
"Because of this exact reaction."
"No way, it's not an option" argued Elena shaking her head.
" It's our only option" Malik responded gently looking at the girl. "Do you think we did not consider other methods?
"Bonnie, you're not dying to save my life! Malik how are you even okay with this..."
"I have the power to save you! "interrupted Bonnie immediately. "If I don't use it and something happens, that would kill me more. Malik knows this, we have a plan. We will be fine!"
" I can't let you."
"Just answer one question... if the situation was reversed, would you do it for me?" Elena didn't answer just gave a sad look and turned to Malik not understanding why he didn't try to stop his sister. "So you know why I have to" stated Bonnie but Elena began to argue again.
"No!"
Before they could have argued more Alaric rushed to them, he looked distressed and worried.
"Elena!"
"What is it?"
"Klaus has Jeremy. Come on!"
They followed him through a side door and into a hallway, all of them worried while the two witches were preparing for face the original vampire.
As they were going on the hallways Elena looked around and asked after a while.
"Okay, so where are you taking us?"
"Just a little further" spoke Alaric which made Elena suspicious, and Malik slowed down.
"Wait... Something's not right" spoke Elena to the two of them and Bonnie turned to Alaric.
"Where's Jeremy?"
Alaric stopped walking and began to laugh as he turned to the trio with a smile.
" I just had to get away from that dance. The sixties, ugh. Not my decade" he laughed but Malik looked him in the eye, this time Alaric kept it before he continued. "I mean, whose call was that, anyway? I much prefer the twenties. The style, the parties, the jazz"
Malik's mind flooded with pictures of the 20's but they seemed like memories... he began to have that little idea get louder and louder in his head. Would it be possible? Would they really be that naïve not to notice it?
"Are you on vervain?" asked Elena suddenly.
"Now why would you ask me that question, Elena?"
"He's being compelled" turned the girl to the witches.
"Nope. Try again"
"What's going on?" asked Bonnie looking between Malik and Alaric and raised her hand in protective mode when suddenly Malik let go of her and raising a protective hand stood in front of Elena as well.
"It's Klaus!"
"Surprise! Well done little warlock. I had a feeling you'd figure it out."
"Oh, no. It's not possible" spoke Elena distressed realising their mistake.
"Just relax, Elena. I'm not here to hurt you. You're not on my hit list tonight" he looked at the witches with a determined look. " But you are."
He started moving towards Bonnie but she threw him against the wall with her powers. Bonnie and Malik exchanged a look seeing how little the damage was and watched him getting up.
"Now, did I mention that I knew a witch? You're gonna have to hit me a lot harder than that!"
He rushed over to her again but this time both of them raised their hands and they threw him against a display case, smashing the glass. He fell to the ground but laughed again.
"By all means... Fire away! If you kill this body, I'll just get a new one. Maybe your little friend Jeremy."
"Get out!" shouted Malik and releasing his magic lifted up the man and throwing him against the lockers once more gave themselves enough time to leave.
They all rushed out, once they were out the door Bonnie turned and using her magic sealed it shut. They slowed down and stopped, that's when Damon ran through another pair of doors and joined them with a confused face.
"What happened?"
"Klaus is in Alaric's body" explained Elena still trying to catch her breath.
"He's possessing it" clarified Bonnie and looked at Malik who seemed nervous.
"Go find Stefan. Now" instructed Damon looking at Elena.
"Okay"
"Now" pushed Damon in a more demanding voice the girl ran, once she was away Damon turned to the witches. "Can you kill him?"
"He's got a very powerful protection spell on him" spoke Malik and continued to pace.
" You are the anomaly and she has the power of a hundred witches. Break it."
"You don't get it Damon we both attacked him, even with our powers combined the wasn't a scratch on him. There must be something fuelling it..." continued Malik when bonnie interrupted.
"But even if we kill Alaric, he'll just possess someone else. He knows I have my power, Damon. He's trying to kill me."
"No. Klaus does not get to win tonight, no way. You still willing to do whatever it takes to kill him?"
Bonnie just nodded but as she turned to Malik her eyes widened for a moment when a familiar sensation ran through her and looking away spoke up.
"I sense another witch... that's why we couldn't break through. We have to..."
"I'll handle them" announced Malik but before Bonnie could have argued he continued. "You cannot waste your power on this witch and face Klaus... no, you two figure out a way to handle the original. There is a way to trick him..."
"Be safe" spoke Bonnie and Malik just nodded with a smile and left the two.
The further away he got the more his head cleared and his senses were focused on the other witch. It became clear to him that the witch was baiting him.
Leaving the school building it was abandoned on the grounds, he slowly moved his hands and his eye turned golden, the sky began to darken as the clouds gathered.
"Come on out" spoke Malik. "Before I make you."
He waited for a bit and a man walked out with confidence and a small smile on his face as he watched Malik. The two of them waited for a bit but then the warlock began to talk.
"Malik Bennett, the newest anom—"
Before he could have finished his sentence Malik raised his hands and pushed him against a car. As he was slowly getting up Malik moved again making him fly against another car.
The sky rumbled as his anger rose.
"You dare attack my sister and attempt to kill her? You picked the wrong place to make trouble warlock."
Suddenly Malik fell back and into a car and Maddox stood up while having his hands raised up.
"Even you cannot stop this. Klaus will kill the witch and break the curse."
Malik got up and suddenly Maddox's hands twisted behind him in binds and got forced on his knees.
"You cannot defeat me with raw power" spoke Malik walking closer. "You might think you know me but I have full control over this chaos."
He began chanting and it did not matter how much Maddox tried he could not break the bindings, the spirits were aiding Malik and that shocked Maddox. He could sense all the spirits gather and guide the young warlock while he was casting the spell. The sky rumbled as the lighting struck across it, the wind caught up around them and the man felt his link to Klaus weaken rapidly.
Once it was broken a strong wave went across the area pushing both of them back.
Maddox groaned as he was slowly getting up and looking at the boy noticed how the blood was dripping from his nose but he still looked him in the eye ready to fight further.
As they stood up, they both raised their hands and the energy collided, cracking the ground beneath them. Malik knew he only had a very small chance of winning, but he had to make sure to keep the warlock away from his sister.
Bonnie had to fight Klaus without the warlock's interference.
Malik was being pushed back until his eyes began to glow as well, suddenly breaking through his last limit released a powerful wave of energy. That wave of power pushed the warlock back away from the school.
Malik was panting as blood was coming strongly from his nose and his muscles began to ache. He let out a grateful sigh but suddenly he got hit in the back and everything turned dark.
At the old witches house after Bonnie fought Klaus and came back to life he was with Jeremy there hiding. The boy pulled out a laptop and opened it but then he looked at the girl.
"Are you sure it's safe here?"
"Yeah, I'm sure" responded Bonnie and watched as Jeremy pulled something out of his bag. "What is that?"
"It is MiFi. If we're gonna be stuck here, then we might as well have Internet."
"You don't have to stay down here with me."
"Hey, look, I'm not letting you out of my sight."
"I... I need you to talk to Elena for me. Tell her how sorry I am for what Damon and I had to do, not I mention Malik he must be freaking out..."
"Well, why don't you tell her yourself?" asked Jer and he turned the laptop so Bonnie could see Elena thanks to the webcam.
"Bonnie!" came the happy voice of Elena.
"Elena! I'm so sorry."
" It's okay, it's okay. I just needed to see you for myself."
Bonnie began to cry looking at her best friend and soon enough began to explain the situation.
"There wasn't enough time for me to tell you."
"It's okay, seriously. Damon explained it all. I'm so happy you're okay."
"Could you put Malik on? I'm sure he's freaking out and I need to grovel probably..."
"Hold on... we thought Malik was with you" spoke Elena in a confused tone making both of them surprised.
"What do you mean? If he's not with you then where is he?"
