Walking into the Gilbert home Malik was very quiet, they all went to Elena's room. Bonnie was hiding the moonstone from Malik, after what happened the last time she did not want her brother to touch it ever again.
But as she was holding in her hand Elena examined the stone and let out a sigh, looking at the witches questioned them.
"Now that you've got this back, what are you gonna do with it?"
"Right now, it's what is binding the Sun and the Moon Curse. If I can figure out a way to remove the spell from the stone, the stone becomes useless."
"And according to Katherine, Klaus becomes vengeful."
"Maybe. If he finds out."
"It won't matter" spoke Malik and leaned across the back looking at the ceiling. "Even if there is a way to nullify the stone... there is no guarantee Klaus doesn't already know about Elena."
"He doesn't" argued Bonnie but the boy just shrugged and continued to look up.
"But if he does... it won't change the fact he will want to proceed with the sacrifice..."
"Malik" reprimanded Bonnie making the boy stay quiet but Elena interrupted the siblings.
"Bonnie, can't this wait? Stefan is stuck in the tomb with Katherine. We've got to get him out."
"Stefan wants me to focus on this."
"Don't listen to him. He thinks that he's protecting me, but he's wrong."
"I'm taking Stefan's side with this one. We're not gonna let you get used in some creepy sacrifice ritual."
"What are you guys arguing about?" came the voice of Jeremy from the door making Malik turn around and look at him.
"We're not arguing about anything" stated Bonnie keeping her eyes on Elena then she took the stone back from the doppelgรคnger and putting it in her bag exchanged a glance with Jeremy.
Malik raised an eyebrow looking at the two of them until he suddenly realised what was happening.
"I need a coffee."
She got up and left, Jeremy looked at Elena with a sad expression but did not say a word, the brunette just looked annoyed for a moment.
"What?"
"Why are you on some suicide mission?"
"I'm trying to prevent everyone else from getting hurt."
"Oh so, bringing Klaus the moonstone so you can get yourself killed is okay?"
"Not to mention if Klaus comes here, he will sacrifice a vampire and werewolf as well" announced Malik and got up from the bed. "Knowing this and still trying to sacrifice yourself is just selfish at this point Elena. I need a coffee too."
The two boys left, Jeremy went back to his room while Malik walked downstairs. Bonnie already had her coffee but once her brother got there she just handed him another mug.
"What's going on with you?" asked the girl quietly looking at her brother.
"You all are acting out. Elena being selfish and suicidal, you're being stubborn and far too independent... the vampires are crazy per usual and then there is Jeremy."
"He tried to protect me..." explained Bonnie but Malik gave her a strict look.
"That's my job, Bonnie. Why did you not call me? You channelled that... stranger instead of asking me for help"
"You know I couldn't have channelled you" whispered Bonnie. "There is no guarantee we could have controlled it..."
"We could have" announced the boy but shaking his head walked to the living room and sitting on the sofa began drinking his coffee while Bonnie headed towards the stairs.
She was about to head up the stairs when she saw Elena come down the stairs.
"Where are you going?"
"To see Stefan."
"You're lying" shouted Malik from the sofa but did not turn to them.
"Are you serious?" deadpanned Elena but Jeremy joined them with Bonnies bag.
"She took the moonstone."
"How did you...?"
"We tested you, and you failed" explained Bonnie and Malik slowly walked to the stairs.
"Klaus killed Katherine's entire family just because she crossed him. I can't let that happen."
Bonnie stepped aside to let her leave, Elena looked mildly confused as she walks down the stairs and opened the door to leave, but an invisible barrier prevented her. Right in that moment she realised why they all let her leave so easily. She was trapped.
She turned around and looked at them.
"What did you do?"
"It's for the best, Elena"
Bonnie looked at Jeremy who had a smile in his face watching her sister struggle to leave the house, while Elena continued to try to break the barrier, to no avail.
After a while she gave up and gave the moonstone back to Bonnie and went to the living room. Malik was sitting in the kitchen reading a book quietly while Bonnie was talking to Jeremy and left the house.
For a while it was quiet until Damon entered the house and joined Elena in the living room.
"You should really lock your door. Oh, come on, pouty. At least give me two points for ingenuity."
"Do you think this is funny?"
"Yes Elena. I find hilarity in the lengths that I have to go to repeatedly save your life."
Malik looked up from his book paying more attention to the conversation.
He watched the pair talk, how Elena tried to push Damon a little and asking if Stefan knows about everything that went through Especially Elijah.
Damon sat down next to her on the couch, putting his arm behind her head while Malik began thinking... Elijah was alive. That opened possibilities he had to explore.
"I didn't tell him" confessed Damon but he looked rather comfortable.
"Why not?"
"Well first of all he can't do anything about it; and second... what I just said."
Jeremy entered the room and sat down with them comfortably while Damon looked around and asked everyone present.
"Where is Bonnie?"
"I thought she was meeting you" responded Jeremy slightly confused.
"No, she's dealing with the moonstone while Damon is on Elena patrol" answered Malik, making Elena realise the boy was sitting there all along listening to their entire conversation.
"And who's dealing with Tyler Lockwood?" turned Jeremy to his best friend but Damon spoke up immediately.
"Vampire Barbie asked me if she could handle it, and I said, why not? Figured if she screwed up, he'll bite her and then I'll be rid of two of my problems."
"It won't come to that; I'll be with them" announced Malik and got up from the table.
"Hold on a second. Tonight's the full moon?" asked Elena surprised.
Damon's phone began to ring, he got up but before answering the call spoke towards Elena.
"Yep, but you were too absorbed with all your suicidal tendencies to notice" commented Damon and answered the phone. "What?... What? Why?... What girl?... That's not good. Where are you?... I'm on my way."
He hang up and walked back to Elena and Jeremy pointed at them with a serious face.
"Change of plans. You babysit" Jeremy laid down on the couch, resting his head on Elena's lap, Damon decided to tease the girl one last time before he left the house. "Hey you know, you should get out, enjoy the sun. Oh wait, you can't."
Elena threw a cushion at him but the vampire easily avoided it, making both boys chuckle. Seeing Jeremy laugh at her Elena pushed the boy down onto the floor.
Malik just shook his head and began walking out of house as well, he had to meet up with Caroline and Tyler. He drove into the forest, as close as he could to the cellar before he got out of the car.
While he was collecting his things he suddenly felt a new presence, making him slowly turn around and seeing Elijah stand there his eyes widened and took a step back slightly frightened.
"Malik Bennett I presume. I'm Elijah"
"I know who you are" spoke the boy bravely.
"I mean you no harm, I was hoping for a chat."
Malik turned towards the cellar carefully then back to the vampire and nodding they began to walk away from there more into the woods. Malik kept his distance walked after the vampire and all of his senses were ready to protect himself.
After a while they stopped, and Elijah turned towards the warlock ensuring he did not look threating at all.
"That spell you performed... I was very surprised to see such a young warlock using it."
"How did you know about it? I had an idea how it worked but clearly... others have done it before me."
"It's called a shadow spell" continued Elijah with a smile. "Witches used it to spy on their enemies and keep themselves safe, giving them time to run away in case someone was onto them."
"Makes sense" agreed the boy and crossed his arm.
"Only powerful witches could do it as it requires tremendous power to actually get into their heads and manipulate them..."
"I did not try anything like that" argued Mail immediately but the vampire seemed unbothered.
"You stopped me from compelling Elena. You linked yourself to her mind in that moment making her resistant to any kind of mind control. It's dangerous magic because you've seen I was able to counter you but only because you were new at it."
"I'm not supposed to use that spell too much..."
"I did find it interesting however... that you are a twin."
Malik did not answer but the vampire just smiled and began walking closer slowly. As he reached the boy he just looked him in the eye and leaning closer spoke quietly.
"You're the first shadow Bennett to survive this long while practicing magic, practicing powerful magic as well. I can help you, but only if you help me too."
"I will not hand over Elena."
"That's not my goal right now. I've come to the realisation that the Salvatore brothers will do anything to keep her safe and I'm content with that. No, I need you to help me on another matter."
"What is it?"
"I want to take down Klaus. For that I will collect as many allies as I can, with us combining our efforts we can kill him and keep everyone safe."
"Clearly we have something in common... fine, I will need more information on your plans but as long as we can save Elena I don't mind joining forces. Speaking of which I would recommend you talking to her."
"Are you referring to her efforts of being a sacrificial lamb?"
"Yes"
"Don't worry, I'll handle her."
Malik just nodded and began walking away. He looked back at the vampire and seeing that he was also looking at him with a gentle smile the warlock blushed the proceeded to go back to the cellar.
Once he finally got back he let out a few sigh then looking down began walking down there, but the voices were loud enough for him to recognise Care and Tyler.
As he got in he saw Tyler was preparing the chains, making sure it was all right and secure. Hoping, that he would not hurt anyone.
"Tell me you brought the wolfsbane"
"Yes. Not an easy herb to find. This is it" spoke Malik and pulled it out of his pocket. "Are you certain you want to do this?"
Malik was holding out the plant to Tyler, but as he touched it, his skin burned immediately, he yelped and drew in his breath.
"I have a water bottle in my bag, we can mix it in there."
Malik looked at Caroline who looked for the bottle and handed it to the boy. Once Malik mixed it together with the water he looked nervous.
"The guy at the hardware store said this set-up could hold up to 5,000 pounds."
"Is that more than a werewolf can pull?" Caroline was clearly nervous but she did her best to hide it
"Hey Tyler, how are you doing?" asked Malik immediately hoping to ease the situation, while looking at the boy who looked around the cave then at him.
"Still human."
He took off his shirt and turned away, but Malik's eyes widened looking at him, Caroline just noticed it and partially covering her eyes for a moment spoke.
"Oh my god, you're not gonna get naked, are you?"
"It's elastic. What should I wear? I don't think it's like The Hulk, where I get to keep my pants."
Caroline blushed and looked away while Malik jut smirked and leaning closer to the blonde whispered.
"It's definitely not gonna stay on..."
"Malik" reprimanded the blonde, but Malik just laughed and walked away from her helped Tyler with the preparations.
Malik would have lied if he said he wasn't at least a little distracted by the half-naked werewolf standing there... he made sure to check it all out while Caroline tried not to look at him.
After a while Malik just took a deep breath and closing his eyes focused, trying to sense the power of the moon, but as the noise of the chains just kept going on and on he opened his eyes.
Tyler had chains wrapped around each wrist and ankle, as well as a chain looped around his neck, all attached to the walls of the underground cave.
"What time is it?" asked the werewolf nervously, Caroline just looked at her phone and answered.
"Almost eight. What time does the moon crest or whatever?"
"Not for a while. But don't forget that first transformation can happen before the moon hits it's apex" commented Malik.
"Does the diary say how long you'll actually be a wolf?"
"A few hours. Maybe more, maybe less"
Tyler tried to sit down next to her but he couldn't because of the chains. He took the bottle with the wolfsbane instead and looked at it while Malik looked worried and stepping closer spoke up.
"Are you sure you want to do that?"
"Yeah. Mason said it'll diminish my strength so I can't break free."
"Tyler..." started the warlock but the werewolf just drank a few swallows, but he began to choke and then started to gag, vomiting on the ground.
He fell to his knees as he coughed, that was the point when Malik did not care just dropped on the ground and holding Tyler tried to comfort him.
"No" mumbled Tyler but Malik just held him tighter and shushed him gently.
"Shh... it's okay."
"Don't!" Tyler looked up and seeing Malik he just lowered his head and whispered guiltily" I'm sorry."
As time went on Caroline paced nervously when once again Tyler was in writhing in pain. He tried to remove the chain, but Caroline immediately joined them trying to comfort him.
"Hey. Tyler"
"I'm burning up. It burns!"
"I know. Just breathe through this, okay? Let it in, don't fight the transformation just let it go through you" explained Malik immediately.
"I'm trying. You should go. You should leave... both of you."
"Not yet" stated Caroline immediately.
Tyler began screaming, his bones began breaking loudly and visibly, Malik tried to remain strong, but seeing this it was hard for him, Caroline screamed as well seeing all of that. Malik was about to turn his gaze away when Tyler began crying.
"It hurts."
Tyler was on the floor with Malik embracing him gently when Caroline went down next to him. She was looking at both of them as she whispered.
"I want to help but I don't know what to do."
"There's nothing you can do" responded Tyler and pushing himself up from the floor moved away from Malik, but the moment he did it his bones and his spine began breaking.
He screamed.
Caroline cried.
Malik didn't know what to do or how to help him.
"Get out! I don't want to hurt you"
"No!"
Caroline got closer and embraced Tyler immediately.
Tyler was still on the floor, laying quietly. His eyes were closed and Caroline was with him. She was still holding him when Malik suddenly got his head up, sensing the power of the moon reaching it's apex.
"It's okay. You'll fight through it, okay?"
"Care you have to go" ushered Malik and walked to the girl when suddenly Tyler's limbs spasmed, and more bones broke. He screamed in pain and Caroline tried to soothe him.
"Leave!" shouted Tyler.
"No"
"Just go, please! Malik's right... Just leave!"
"I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere."
Suddenly he screamed out louder than before, his bones were breaking more rapidly and as he looked up his eyes were yellow and his fangs came out.
Seeing that Malik immediately waved his hand and the bars opened, Caroline immediately picked up Malik and rushing there they closed the door and tried to chain it in while keeping an eye on Tyler.
He got up and looked everywhere around him, noticing the blonde his killing instinct took over and he rushed to the gate, but since the chains were keeping him in place he focused all of his energy on ridding himself of those shackles. Tyler got to the gate making them both step back.
Malik looked at Caroline and seeing her cry he raised his hands pushing the werewolf back somewhat he shouted at Caroline.
"Go outside, I'll be there in a minute..."
"But Mal..."
"Tyler will finish his transformation very soon it's best if he can't smell a vampire when that happens... go!"
Caroline nodded and rushed out while Malik was still holding Tyler back when he called to him gently.
"Tyler?"
The werewolf growled and looked at him, but as they locked eyes Malik lowered his hands releasing his magic while his eyes began to glow golden.
"Just let it in... don't fight the wolf. Let it in... and be free!"
Tyler groaned but suddenly he growled even louder and Malik immediately bolted out of there. As soon as he got there Caroline closed the door.
The two of them looked at each other, the sudden silence made them both nervous.
Before they could have said anything suddenly on the other Tyler rushed against the doors trying to break out. They both tried to hold him back but as he was trying to break through harder and harder, they exchanged a look and looking around Malik moved and picking up a plank they placed across the door and in a moment Caroline grabbed him and rushed out of there.
Caroline was still crying when they stopped she looked around nervously while Malik just walked closer to her and holding her hands spoke gently.
"It's going to be alright Care..."
"Poor Tyler, all that pain... is he gonna be alright?"
"That depends... are you talking about the fact his body is morphed into a wolf or the possibility of him getting fleas?"
"Not the right time Mal" reprimanded Caroline but a small smile appeared on her face. "What I mean is..."
"You said this before" interrupted Mal looking serious. "It's a curse... I have checked it before with Eric and the curse is powerful. Tyler has to accept his nature to make things easier. Otherwise, it will never be any easier."
"What should we do?" asked the girl worried when Malik looked up until he sensed something.
"Stay alert, if he gets out of there you need to be as far away as possible. First transformation will not last too long. But I have to check this out."
Caroline was calling after him but he kept walking, as he felt the magic in the air.
Someone was channelling the power of the full moon, and he wasn't sure what they were doing.
As he got closer he began to recognise the area, until he heard a voice.
"Kind of you to join us Malik."
The boy span around and seeing Elijah he let out a sigh and spoke quietly.
"What's happening?"
"I asked my friends to lift the tomb spell, allowing Stefan Salvatore to leave it."
"What about Katherine?"
"Oh don't you worry. I'll handle her"
"Alright... I suppose we talk another time then. I gotta..."
"Yes I suppose you should."
Malik turned back a few times but Elijah did not take his eyes off of him. Once Malik was further away, he shook his head but then rushed back to Caroline.
The girl was still pacing up and down watching out for everything.
She jumped slightly as Malik arrived but seeing the boy she let out a sigh and she spoke quietly.
"You frightened me Mal... what's happening?"
"It seems things are working out just fine... let's check on Tyler."
"Is it safe?"
"I guess we will find out."
He began walking back while Caroline walked behind him but she was still nervous, until the arrived to the stairs. Looking down they noticed that the door was still closed. As they got down Caroline removed the plank and opening the door they slowly walked in.
"Tyler?" asked the blonde carefully when suddenly they heard a deep, weak voice full of pain.
"Caroline..."
"Tyler!" spoke the girl with a smile and rushed over to him, seeing that he was naked she placed a jacket over him. "You're okay. You made it. You didn't get out. You're okay."
But he wasn't.
Tyler was crying, the pain still present in his body,
"No, I'm not."
Hearing his voice crack Malik took a deep breath and sitting down next to them placed his hand on top of Tyler's head.
He began whispering a chant, Caroline watched him eagerly and noticed how Tyler's face began to change slowly, feeling more and more relieved. Once he stopped he sat back and Tyler smiled a little, finally feeling something else, not just the pain, but in that moment he fell asleep finally.
