(I'm staying in first person for now, fight me)

ANNABETH

Chiron, Jack and I had walked up to the giant cyclops that seemed to be the head of the army. He wasn't like Polyphemus; this cyclops radiated intelligence. He stood at Thalia's pine, close enough to our border to make us scared. The Athena Parthenos was working overtime but I doubted even she could stop this many monsters.

The heads of every cabin walked with Chiron and I over to the leader to try and reason with him. When we finally made it over, we stood barely up to the cyclop's shins. He leaned down dangerously and said something that sent chills down my spine;

"Give us Perseus Jackson or be destroyed."

I was confused and terrified. I thought that the entire monster world knew that the infamous Percy Jackson was dead. Confusion rippled through the campers

"He's dead." I said, trying to keep my voice from breaking, "He died a year ago when you and your army killed him."

The cyclops grumbled in what I believe was meant to be laughter.

"Ah, yes, Perseus put quite a dent in our efforts. Without him, we would have marched on your camp that very day. He delayed us an entire year, we had to regroup our forces, but," he gestured to a giant metal scorpion beside him, "my friend here had managed to kill him. However," his eye moved to Jack, "your young hero managed to cheat death. We are simply curious if he can do it again."

I almost had a panic attack right there. I was squeezing Jack's hand so tightly, I think I cut off his circulation.

"Give us Perseus Jackson or perish." Said the cyclops again.

"He's NOT. HERE." I yelled, trying and failing not to cry.

"Oh," the cyclops paused, "But he's right there." He pointed to Jack. I froze, and backed away from him, feeling mixed emotions. What in the world was he talking about? I could feel the entire camp's eyes on us.

"I don't know what you're on, my dude, but I'm not Percy Jackson. That guy's a legend around here. I got here last week. Take your monster army somewhere else," Jack said, trying to be strong, but I knew him well enough to know that he was terrified. He'd never even faced monsters before, and now he's getting singled out? I wanted to go back over to him, to hold his hand, tell him it would be okay, but I was frozen in place.

The cyclops chuckled heartily. "I have a gift for you, young hero," He rumbled, and gestured to a frail-looking old man that I recognized as Thoon from the giant war had just appeared beside him. Ice ran through my veins. Whatever this "gift" was, it couldn't be good.

Jack was dragged by an unseen force toward him. The old man smiled toothily, and placed a thumb on his forehead.

"My gift, demigod, is your memories back. Something even the fates wouldn't give," The cyclops boomed, and Jack started screaming. I knew that screaming all too well.

I saw his bones change, becoming taller and his hair turning to black. All the while, the Thoon and the cyclops laughing.

When the giant finally released Jack, or now, Percy, he just lay there, on the ground, breathing like he just ran two marathons. His eyes were squeezed shut; he was shaking. I can't imagine how painful it was.

He sat up unsteadily. He glanced back at me, a pained expression on his face. I tried to move, to run to him, to hug him, to kiss him, to kill him. But I couldn't move. I don't think anyone could.

Percy stood, balancing precariously, holding his side.

"You see," he paused, "That was your first mistake." Percy clenched a fist in his direction.

The cyclops' smug smile turned to fear for barely a second before he exploded. One by one, and then two by two, and then entire lines of hellhounds, telkhines, empousi, cyclops, and other assorted monsters simply exploded. Even Thoon seemed frightened. The monsters stampeded, running every which way, some retreating and some charging. Percy didn't even let them within fifty feet of the camp.

Percy looked up at the Athena Parthenos, lips mumbling a quick prayer, before he directed his hand toward the ground and pulled upward, like lifting weights. Water burst out of the ground and turned into dagger-like formations before freezing, and Percy sent them all flying toward Thoon.

They all went straight through him, leaving quarter-size holes in various places of the giant. Thoon staggered backward. Just then, the Athena Parthenos sent a streak of light toward him, vaporizing the giant on the spot. Percy nodded in the general direction of the statue in thanks.

Whatever seemed to be freezing me and everyone else lifted, but we were all too speechless to do or say anything. Percy clenched his fist at monsters, which in turn immediately turned to dust, and sent his ice-daggers through many others with his other hand.

While I was impressed with what Percy was doing, I couldn't help but feel terrified as well. If he could do whatever he was doing to monsters, could he do it to people as well?

Hundreds of thousands of monsters turned into just a ten thousand, which turned into just a few thousand. We looked on in awe and fear. When 3/4 of the monster army was completely ravaged, only about two or three thousand left, Percy crumpled without warning. His legs just gave out beneath him, and he fell face-first into the ground.

The monsters seemed to realize that their biggest threat just passed out, and they charged. I surged forward, determined to get to Percy first. The others had the same idea.

I hacked at the first empousi that managed to reach him, but not before she slashed her claws down his arm. She burst into dust, and me and all the other head campers got in front of Percy's inert body. I prayed to every god I could think of, hoping he wasn't dead. I don't think I could live with myself if Percy died a second time. My brain went on autopilot as I killed monster after monster, thinking about the boy I loved lying still behind me.

Will rushed to him, quickly feeling for his pulse. He sighed in relief and yelled something to Nico. He nodded, and touched both Percy and Will, shadow-traveling them to the infirmary. I turned my focus back to the battle, knowing that he was safe with Will. The other campers had joined the fight, feeling invigorated and boosting morale with the return of Percy.

Soon there were only a couple hundred monsters left, and many were running in retreat. There were minimal injuries, and maybe one or two dead. The monsters had come here looking for a fight, one they thought they could surely win, but they hadn't counted on Percy.

I left the last few monsters to the other campers and started running back into the camp. I needed to see Percy.
