Chapter 15: Merry Christmas Scorpius; Part 2

00:20, 11 May 2020

The witches then went on to planning on what Rose could get Scorpius for Christmas

"I don't know mum, I just want to do something special for him. He has done so many special things for me." Rose said to Hermione after she offered to help.

"Well, what does he like?" Hermione asked.

"I want to get him something sentimental. Something he will have for a while." Rose stated.

"Something sentimental. Hmm..." Hermione responded, deep in thought.

"What's something that's very special to him?" Hermione asked, and continued thinking.

"Umm, I don't think this will help, but his mum was very special to him. He tells me things about her. She seemed like a very good lady. I can tell he misses her very much." Rose said, with a sad look on her face.

"Yes, your on the right track! Let me think." Hermione responded. Rose and Hermione continued to think in silence for another 5 minutes.

"I have an idea!" Rose blurted out.

"Go ahead, I'm listening." Hermione said back.

"What if we got a necklace and enchanted it. I know it sounds crazy, but listen. We can get a necklace, like one of those lock chains, and enchant it, so when he unlocks the lock, an enchanted photo of his mum could come out. I don't know, it would be like he always had his mum with him, in a way. What do you think?" Rose said.

"Rosie, that's a spectacular idea! But, I can't enchant it without a regular photograph of her." Hermione said.

"Well, that's the challenge. I would have to write to Mr. Malfoy and ask for a photograph. Then, we can go and buy a chain and lock charm. (A/N: Okay, so I am aging this necklace like one of those e-boy chains with a little lock on it, not a locket. Sorry, I just thought I'd make that clear.) And last, we enchant it." Rose said with a determined grin on her face.

"Rose, that's brilliant! But, we can't do anything until you get a photograph. Christmas is next week, so we still have time. Once you have one, we can go to Diagon Alley and pick out a chain and charm. Oh, Rosie, I'm so proud of you. I think he'll love it!" Hermione said, as she kissed her daughter on the forehead, and then walked out of the room. Then, Rose went to her desk and got to work on writing a letter to Draco.

Dear Mr. Malfoy,

I know this probably the best time for you, but I have a huge favor to ask. Look, I've been great friends with your son this year. Scorpius has probably told you about me. He has made this year so much more enjoyable for me. Your son is one of the kindest, nicest, smartest people I've ever met. I don't know if you know this, but Scorpius got me a very nice jewelry set as a Christmas gift this year. He really didn't have to do that, but I greatly appreciate it. Anyway, the reason why I'm writing this is because I want to do something as equally great for Scorpius, but I need your help. Look, I know this is a lot to ask, but here it goes. I need a picture of your wife. Now, before you ask yourself why, it is because I have an idea, but it won't work without a photograph. That idea is, I would like to give Scorpius a Lock-chain, and enchant it, so when he pulls up the shackle, an enchanted picture of his mum will come out. I just thought it would be a nice idea, a gift from me to him. I just want to do something special for Scorpius. Again, he has done many special things for me this year, so I just wanted to something nice back. I completely understand if you can't. It won't be that big of a deal, I'll come up with something else. I hope you will seriously consider it though.

Merry Christmas, Sincerely, Rose Weasley

Rose finished writing the letter, and sealed it in a envelope. She was extremely nervous to send it. What would he think? Would he think that it is a stupid idea? And, the biggest of all, what would he think of it coming from a Weasley? These thoughts just made Rose more nervous. But, NO! She had to at least try, for Scorpius. He would be so happy with this, Rose loved to know that she made him happy. So, reluctantly, she handed the envelope to Pig, and told him where to go.

"Okay Pig. I know it's after dark, but this is urgent. I need you to fly this to Malfoy Manor." Rose said while ruffling Pig's feathers. Then, the bird took off into the night.

Then Hermione walked into the living room where Pig's perch was and asked, "Did you send it?"

"Yes, now we just wait for a response." Rose said back.

Then, Rose trudged back up the stairs to her room to read, and wait for a response from Draco.

***

Meanwhile at Malfoy Manor, Draco was sitting in his study going through papers and pieces of parchment. He was going through files, while he came across a few of Astoria's things. He took the pieces in his hand and stared at them. Her pretty, loopy, handwriting, it was so real. Draco ran his fingers across them. Then, he came across one that wasn't in her handwriting. It was her death certificate. He stood and starred at it for a moment, his face going cold. But, he was snapped out of it suddenly, as an owl was hooting at the window.

"Mail? At this time of the night? It's 9:15, you'd think that mail would be done this time of the day." Draco said as he took the envelope from Pig, and ruffled his feathers. Pig then took off.

Draco stared down at the letter. He was curious what it was, he never got mail this late. He looked at the handwriting that was addressed to him. He had never seen this handwriting before. What could this possibly be?

Draco then ripped open the envelope, and unfolded the parchment. On the piece of parchment, there was a long paragraph in the same handwriting.

Then, he began to read. He couldn't believe what he was reading. He had to read it over five times. He almost called Scorpius down, he assumed that he was in his room reading or working out, but then Draco stopped himself. He had to read it again. He was in shock. So, that was the girl that was around Scorpius at the Quidditch match. That girl was Rose Weasley. He just couldn't believe it. That was the daughter of Weaselbey. Draco already had to tolerate Scorpius being friends with PoTtAh'S (A/N: Sorry I couldn't help myself!) :) kid. But, he figured that this was a little more than friendship. He was in pure shock. He had to read it one more time. This was real. This girl truly cared about his son. The bad part was, this was a very kind letter, there was nothing Draco could be mad about. Then he couldn't help himself, he had to call Scorpius.

"Scorpius!" Draco yelled through the large house.

"What!" Scorpius called back.

"Come here for a second!" Draco yelled back. He then put the letter face down so Scorpius couldn't see it.

"What." Scorpius asked as he walked into Draco's study out of breath and sweaty. He had been working out.

"Um, who was that girl I saw you with at the Quidditch match?" Draco questioned. Scorpius facial expression changed instantly. First it was a bit of shock, then it morphed into something more dreamy looking.

"Oh, um, my friend." Scorpius responded, barely listening. Why was his dad asking about Rose?

"Mmhm, sure, anyway, what's her name?" Draco continued to ask, as he had a slight smirk on his face.

Scorpius didn't know how to respond. His father would definitely not approve. He was silent for a moment, than very quietly said, "Rose." He agreed to himself to not to tell him her last name unless he asked.

"Okay, well do you fancy her?" Draco asked.

Scorpius pupils multiplied in size. Had his dad just seriously ask him that? What did he need to know that for?

"Um, it's complicated." Scorpius said quietly.

"Well, that's all I needed to know, you can go now." Draco said. It was very clear that Scorpius fancied her. Just by his aneurisms, it was obvious.

Then, Scorpius walked out of the room, and trudged back up to his bedroom. Why did his dad need to know that? Since when was interested in who he fancied? A million questions flooded Scorpius's head.

When Scorpius left the room, Draco grabbed the piece of parchment and read it one more time. He just starred at it. Clearly this girl really cared about Scorpius. Draco didn't know these things that Rose wrote in this letter. Scorpius really didn't tell him much. He was glad that Scorpius found someone that made him happy. Scorpius hadn't really been truly happy around Draco since Astoria passed. But, this was still very new to Draco. He had to let it settle for a few minutes. Draco thought that her idea was wonderful. He would do it for Scorpius. He knew this girl made him very happy. Again, it would just purely take time for Draco to get used to it.

So, after Draco was done trying to take it all in, he went to the closet in his study and pulled down a box. When he lifted off the lid, many photographs were now in his view. Of course, they were all wizarding photographs, so each one's occupant was moving around. The top one was a picture of him and Astoria on their wedding day. Astoria had one of her smiles across her face. She looked so beautiful. So living. So healthy. Then, Draco could feel the hot tears spilling down his face. He had missed his wife so much. Then, he took that one and set it aside. The next one was taken when Scorpius was just a baby. Even though Astoria was very weak after she gave birth to Scorpius, she had a huge smile etched across her face, while she played with her baby boy. This picture brought back so many memories. That was the only thing Astoria ever wanted. To have a child. She didn't care that it took a toll on her health. She had to continue to ask Draco for years to have a baby. Once Scorpius was finally brought into the world, that fulfilled all of Astoria's happiness. Draco just smiled weakly down at the picture. Then, he put the picture aside with the other one. The next one was just simply a portrait of Astoria. Probably, when this was taken, Scorpius had done something in the background that made her laugh. In this picture, she had the biggest look of happiness on her face. She just looked so healthy and full of life. This picture was perfect. So, Draco took the photograph into his hands, when through his desk to find an envelope, and he would owl this to Rose first thing in the morning. He then took out a piece of spare parchment, and began to write.

Dear Ms. Weasley,

I honestly don't know how to reply to this. I'm very happy to know that Scorpius has met someone like you this year. You make him very happy. Whenever he mentions you in some sort of conversation, it's clear that you can tell he likes you. I'm glad that you want to do something like this for him. I will be glad to help you. I will put a photograph in with this. Merry Christmas,

Draco Malfoy Scorpius's father

The next day, Rose woke up early. She really wanted Mr. Malfoy to respond today. She grabbed a bowl of cereal, and waited for Pig to come in with the mail.

"Someone's up early." Hermione said as she watched her daughter chomp down a bowl of cereal. She ate just like her father.

"I'm waiting for the mail." Rose responded between swallows.

"Well, I hope he responds today too." Hermione said as Ron walked in.

"Why are you up so early?" Ron asked as he walked into the room.

"I'm waiting for an important piece of mail." Rose simply responded. Just as Rose said that, Pig flew in and dropped the mail on the table.

Rose aggressively took the mail into her grasp. She flicked through all the envelopes, until she noticed one addressed to Rose Weasley. She then flicked the rest towards her dad.

"What? Did you make the international English Quidditch Team or something?" Ron asked as he had all the mail aggressively shoved toward him.

"No, but this is very important." Rose responded, then her dad left for work.

"What does it say?" Hermione asked after Ron kissed her goodbye.

"I don't know, let's open it together." Rose said as Hermione sat down next to her.

Rose ripped open the envelope. Out fell a piece of parchment and the back of what she thought was a photograph. Then, Hermione took the piece of parchment and read it.

"Yes!" Rose said ecstatically. She listened to her mother read the letter, and then flipped over the photograph.

"Wow, so this is Scorpius's mum. I've only seen the back of her one time at the train station in first year." Rose said as she starred down at the picture.

"She's beautiful." Hermione said.

"This is perfect! He's going to love it!" Rose beamed.

"I'll take the day off today, and we can go to Diagon Alley." Hermione said.

"Are you sure mum?" Rose asked.

"Yes, I need a day off. Besides, if anyone asks, I'll say I'm last minute Christmas shopping. And, I need a day with my girl. We haven't gone out like this in a while." Hermione said.

"Thanks! I love you mummy." Rose said as she finished her breakfast.

"Love you to Rosie." Hermione said as she went to go get a piece of parchment, and write a letter to the Ministry.

***

Two hours later, Rose had took a shower and gotten dressed. Hugo was still asleep, so this was the perfect opportunity for and Hermione to sneak out for a bit. Rose had gathered her money, and headed downstairs.

"Ready to go?" Hermione asked as she picked up her bag, and slung it around her shoulder. Then, she wrote a quick note for Hugo and left it on the counter for when he woke up.

"Yep." Rose responded. Hermione then took Rose's arm, and they apparated to Diagon Alley.

"I say we go to the jewelry store." Hermione said, then her and Rose walked to the jewelry store in Diagon Alley.

When they walked in the woman that worked at the counter greeted them.

"How may I help you ladies today?" The woman asked.

"Um, do you guys have lock charms, like to hang of a necklace?" Rose asked.

"Yes we do. I have some in the back, let me go get them." The worker said, as she walked to the back of the store.

When she returned, she had a display of lock shaped charms in her hands.

"These are what we got. Take your time picking one out." The worker lady said, as she returned back to the cash register.

Rose looked down at all her options. There were all different size locks. She didn't want to get Scorpius a big one. She wanted to get him a smaller one, so it would be easier to wear.

"Which one do you like?" Hermione asked.

"Hmm, I don't know." Rose said. Then she spotted it. The perfect one. It was a small lock with a rose thorn engraved into it.

"Actually, I like this one." Rose said as she picked up the lock charm.

"Oh, that one's perfect." Hermione said.

They then went up to the counter back to the worker.

"That one's nice. I have the perfect chain for that." The worker said to Rose. She then beat down and grabbed a silver chain from out of the display case.

"Okay, will that be all for you ladies today?" The worker asked.

"Yes." Rose responded.

"Well, that'll be 25 galleons." The worker said.

Then, Rose reached into her pocket for some money, and payed the lady. Then, the worker handed her the bag with the necklace inside.

"Thanks. Have a nice day." The worker said as Hermione and Rose walked out of the shop.

"Thanks, you too." Hermione said back.

When they walked out of the store, Hermione said, "That was successful."

"I know, I really hope he likes it." Rose responded.

"He will. Now, I say lets go get some lunch at the Leaky Cauldron." Hermione said to Rose.

***

When Hermione and Rose got back from Diagon Alley, Hugo was standing in the kitchen eating a sandwich.

"Where were you guys?" Hugo asked.

"Oh, we were last minute Christmas shopping." Hermione responded, giving Rose a wink.

Then, Rose and Hermione went upstairs to Rose's room to enchant the necklace.

"So, do you have any idea how to do this?" Rose asked as she placed that bag down on her bed.

"Well, I've never done it before, but I know the spell, and it should work." Hermione said as she took out her wand.

"Okay then, here goes nothing." Rose said.

Then, Hermione muttered a spell, and sparks flew out of the tip of her wand. The photograph of Astoria magically morphed inside of the lock.

"Did it work?" Rose asked.

"Well let's see." Hermione responded.

Then, Rose took the charm into her hands, and lifted the shackle of the lock. When she did this, and enchanted, misty, similar to a Patronus, portrait of Astoria floated in front of her.

"Wow, that's cool." Rose said, very impressed.

"I think he'll love it Rosie. You are so generous." Hermione said, as she two was impressed of the misty Astoria in front of them.

"Well, lets put it on the chain and wrap it, it is a gift after all." Hermione continued.

Rose closed the shackle, the misty picture morphing back inside of it. Then, she slid the lock on its chain, and handed it to her mum to wrap. She was so excited to give Scorpius his gift. Well, for Pig to give him his gift, but you know what I mean. After Hermione was done wrapping it, Rose placed it on her bedside table. She couldn't wait for next week.
