Chapter 10: Hogsmeade
22:25, 4 May 2020The following week after the Slytherin vs. Hufflepuff match was a good one for Scorpius. Everyone congratulated him and patted him on the back. Even though he was proud of himself, he did not want to play the next match. That was the big Gryffindor vs. Slytherin. That was a month away, so Jessica should be better by then. Other than thinking about that, everything else was going well for Scorpius. Like any typical fifth year, he had a lot of homework, but he kept up on it. He always looked forward to homework because he got to do it with Rose. The two continued to go to the library to study everyday. This was the highlight of Scorpius's day. When they weren't discussing the topic they were studying, they often small talked about little things like Quidditch, and the novels they were reading. They never really had a deep conversation. But, Scorpius wanted to change this. He wanted to have a nice, deep, conversation with Rose. This topic dawned over Scorpius over and over again. How? How would he get her alone without studying? She would be suspicious. Scorpius really wanted to just get her alone. No school work. Just her. Scorpius kept thinking about this as him and Al walked back to the common room from breakfast.
"Oh, they posted the Hogsmeade dates for this year." Al pointed out.
"It looks like the first one is next weekend." Albus added after he pointed out the list posted on the board.
"Really?" Scorpius said. This was it. His chance. He could ask her to go to Hogsmeade with him. After this, a million thought flooded Scorpius's head.
"Wait. Hold on. Would she want to? She probably wouldn't. She'd get suspicious. She's probably going with her friends. No. she's probably going with someone else. NO! Would she say yes? Would she think it's a date? Is it a date? No. Yes. No. Maybe? Ok fine, I'd treat it as a date. Would she treat it as a date? Would she want to go on a date with me?" Scorpius thought, as he was suddenly interrupted.
"Scorp?" Albus said as he waved his hand in front of Scorpius's face, snapping him out of his massive thinking war.
"Oh, sorry." Scorpius responded.
"I can't go. I've got a detention." Albus added.
"Again! What did you do this time?" Scorpius said.
"I may have worn my Vans to class again." Albus said with a grin on his face.
"Again!" Scorpius responded.
"What! They're much more comfortable than dress shoes!"ย Albus said laughing, as the two boys progressed to get ready for class.
This was a distraction for Scorpius for about 0.00001 seconds. He really wanted to ask Rose to Hogsmeade. This would be perfect. Albus wouldn't be there, so it wouldn't be awkward. It would just be Rose and Scorpius. Walking through the village, with the chilly autumn breeze flowing through Rose's red, curly, locks. Oh Rose! Scorpius just sighed at this. That's it. He had to ask her. He made a mental note that he had to ask her. The worst thing she could do is say no, right? Okay, settled. When would he ask her though?
Scorpius's thinking was interrupted yet once again as they reached the Potions classroom. And there she was. She went to take her seat. Her curly locks flowing down her back. Then, she lifted her hair up so it wouldn't get stuck on the back of her seat. When she did this, Scorpius's pupils must have multiplied twice in size. The rest of the class went the same as usual, Scorpius and Rose's hands competing to be raised to answer questions. Okay, it went mostly the same as usual. The only thing that was added was Scorpius was staring at Rose's hair as it moved when she raised her hand. Then, without Scorpius noticing at first, Professor Slughorn said class was dismissed. When Scorpius headed toward the door, the red head was waiting for him.
"Same as usual tonight." Rose asked Scorpius.
"Yes. Definitely." Scorpius responded.
With that, Rose shot Scorpius a smile, and then caught up with one of her friends. That was it. He had to ask her tonight. This would be the perfect chance. He had to do it soon. He knew Colton McClaggen had a crush on her. Oh Scorpius hated Colton McClaggen with a passion. Whenever they had Prefect meetings, he would flirt with Rose. This angered Scorpius very much. He wished he was Rose's Prefect partner. He knew if he didn't ask Rose soon, that Colton would ask her. He would have to ask her tonight.
Later that day, Scorpius made his way to the library, getting him and Rose's table. This was it. He would have to ask her tonight. How would he ask her? She's probably going to say no. Oh no!
For the third time that day, Scorpius's thinking was interrupted. This time, he wasn't made at that though, as he watched the red-haired girl come in and sit across from him.
"Sorry I'm late. Lily needed my help with something." Rose said as she took her books out of her bag.
"That's completely fine. We should get to work." Scorpius said. Dang it. He should have just asked her. Why didn't he?
Scorpius and Rose worked on their homework. There were multiple chances that Scorpius should have asked, but he didn't. Noticing that Scorpius had a look of distress on his face, Rose said something.
"Are you okay Scorp?" Rose asked Scorpius, she had started using the nickname "Scorp" more often now.
"Oh, yea." Scorpius said in response. He was definitely not okay. With that remark, Rose then looked down at her essay again.
The two did homework for another hour, until Madame Pince announced that the library was closed.
"See you tomorrow Scorp." Rose said as she made her way back to Gryffindor Tower.
Dang it. He should have asked? Why didn't he ask. Okay. Just ask tomorrow. Yea. That should be alright.
*** Two more days went by. It was now Thursday. The trip was on Saturday. Scorpius still hadn't asked Rose. He needed to ask her. Today HE HAD TO DO IT. There was no other option. He would ask her at their study session tonight. Yes.
That night, Scorpius had beat Rose to their table again. He took out his stuff, and he agreed that he would ask her when they were done. It would be to weird to ask her right away. While Scorpius was thinking this, Rose had walked in and sat next to him.
"Hey." She said, as she pulled out her stuff.
The night went as usual, the only thing that was different, Scorpius had noticed how Rose was spinning her finger around one of her locks, as she had a look of concentration on her face. Scorpius's pupils grew again. He quickly looked back down at his textbook, so she wouldn't notice. The rest of the night went like this. While Scorpius was stealing glances at Rose intertwining her finger in her curl, when Scorpius was looking down at his textbook running his hand through his Platinum-Blond hair in concentration, Rose had also stolen glances. The way he did this also made Rose's pupils grow. When Madame Pince came to dismiss them, Scorpius had said something.
"Hey Rose, before you go, I have to ask you something." Scorpius asked. This was it. He was going to do it! He had finally built up the confidence to do it!
"Yea," Rose said in response to his question.
"Well, um.. how do I put this? IwaswonderingifyouwantedtogotoHogsmeadewithmethisweeked?" Scorpius asked very fast and nervously.
"What was that? I couldn't really understand you." Rose asked, curious to know what he asked her.
"Um. I was wondering if you wanted to go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend? I mean, as friends. You don't have to. I just thought it was a nice idea. You're probably already going with someone else. I was just wondering. Al got detention again, so I didn't want to go alone. Oh who am I kidding, you're probably already going with someone. I knew this was a stupid idea." Scorpius rambled.
"Shush! It's funny that you ask me, really. Someone already did. But, I said no. But, yes I would love to Scorpius. And no, its not a stupid idea." Rose said in response to Scorpius's question.
"Wait. What! Really?" Scorpius said with a look of surprise on his face.
"Yes, really. That would be lovely." Rose said with a smile on her face. Scorpius didn't know what to say in response. She actually said yes. She said yes! He was going on a date with Rose Weasley! Was it a date? Yes. Scorpius thought it was a date. Wow.
"Well, its getting late. See you then Scorp." Rose said as she left with a smile on her face.
As Rose left, she couldn't believe what just happened. Scorpius asked her on a date. Was it a date? Rose thought it was a date. She would be going on a date with her crush. Just him and her. No school work. Oh my gosh! She was going on a date with Scorpius Malfoy. What would her family think? Well, they aren't here, are they? No one would have to know. The only person she would tell was Lily. her and Lily had a close relationship, so she could trust her not to tell. She was really going on a date with Scorpius. She couldn't wait for the day after tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Scorpius made his way back to his dorm. He had one of his genuine-Astoria smiles on his face. She said yes! She really said yes! He was going on a date with Rose Weasley. Just her and him. No school stuff. They could have a real conversation. When he got back, he told Al about what he asked his cousin. Albus just rolled his eyes at this. It was now about 10:15 pm, so Scorpius decided to go to bed. As he drifted to sleep, he thought about this red-haired girl, and thought about the amazing time they would have on Saturday.
*** It was now Saturday. Al and Scorpius had gone back up to their dorm after breakfast. Albus had left his robes on, grabbed his stuff, and headed to detention. While Al was doing that, Scorpius had changed out of his school robes and changed into a more casual outfit. He changed into a pair of dark, nice jeans, a nicer-collar shirt, and thew his Quidditch jacket over it. (A/N: Ok, so you know how schools have varsity jackets. Well, imagine that with Slytherin colors, and the name Malfoy on the back. I know this isn't technically a thing, but I thought it would be a nice element!) :) After that, he sprayed a little bit of his Black Nior cologne on. Then, he slipped on a nice pair of shoes, and headed out to find Rose.
When Rose came back from breakfast that morning, she was very excited. What was she going to wear! She needed to dress a little nicer than usual. So, she thew on a white-knit sweater, a pair of distressed jeans, and slipped on her white high-top Converse. She decided to leave her hair down. She had caught Scorpius staring at it once, so she figured he liked it. Then, she looked at herself in the mirror. She decided to put a little makeup on. She normally didn't wear makeup, but this was a special occasion. With that, she put on a little concealer, mascara, and lip gloss. When she came out of the bathroom, she caught Lily sitting on her bed.
"What do you think?" Rose asked Lily.
"He's going to like it! Let me know how it went when you get back." Lily said. With that comment, Rose stepped out of the portrait hole to find Scorpius.
Rose and Scorpius both ventured down near the entrance hall, to find each other. They both got there at the same time. Scorpius was the first to say something.
"You look nice." Oh shoot! Did he just say that out loud! He didn't mean to.
"Thank you. You don't look bad yourself." Rose responded with a grin on her face. Clearly, she did not mind Scorpius's remark.
With that, the two headed down to the village.
"Well, do you want to get a drink first?" Scorpius asked as they entered the village, standing outside The Three Broomsticks.
"Sure." Rose replied, as they headed in to get a booth.
When they walked in, the hostess sat them at a booth, and asked them what they wanted to drink.
"Two Butterbeers please, if that's what you want." Scorpius said, as he pointed towards Rose.
"Yes, that would be lovely." Rose said to the hostess, as Scorpius took out a few Galleons to pay. The hostess soon came back with the Butterbeers in her hand.
"So. The reason why I asked you to come with me today was to get to know you more." Scorpius said. It took all the courage in his chest to say that.
"Really. Well, where should we start? I have experienced a lot of things over my 15 years of life." Rose responded, while Scorpius chuckled.
"Well, I already know that your really smart, you like to read, and you like to play Quidditch. Like, I don't know. Tell me something that isn't Hogwarts or school related." Scorpius said.
"Where do we start? Okay, I suppose we should start from the beginning. I was born to Ron and Hermione Weasley. I have a younger, and very annoying brother named Hugo. We have an owl named Pigwindigon, and my mom and I both have cats. Their names are Otter and Crookshanks II. Oh, and Hugo has a pet Tarantula. It's actually funny. My dad has a HUGE fear of Spiders, and he won't even go near it." Rose said, as Scorpius let out another chuckle.
"Well. That's good to know, but tell me about like, I don't know, what it was like growing up with your family and stuff." Scorpius continued.
"Oh, are you sure you want to go there. Once your in you can't go back out." Rose said as she laughed.
"Yea, I'm sure."
"Okay then, don't say I didn't warn you. Alright then, where do we start. Oh, okay. In the summer, we have weekly dinners at my grandparents house. Usually its me, Hugo, mum, dad, grandma, grandpa, Uncle Harry, Aunt Ginny, James, Albus, Lily, Uncle George, Aunt Angelina, Fred, Roxanne, Uncle Percy, Aunt Audrey, Molly, Lucy, Uncle Bill, Aunt Fleur, Victorie, Domonique, Louis, and Teddy. And even sometimes my Uncle Charlie, but he lives in Romania, so he can't come that often." Rose said out of breath.
"Oh, but at Christmas! Everyone is there. I mean EVERYONE. Even Teddy's grandma comes. We all sit around the small living room and exchange presents. My grandma knits us all new jumpers every year with our initial on them. I have five in different colors. Albus probably doesn't wear is, but trust me he has them too!" Rose finished. Scorpius let out another laugh at the last comment.
"That sounds nice. Just tell me one more thing." Scorpius said.
"Oh, alright, there's a lot to choose from. Okay. So, you probably know this but my family owns a joke shop. My Uncle George is the owner, but my dad helps him out a lot. Anyway, Albus probably didn't tell you this, but we all take turns working there in the summer. Yes, even Albus does. Hard to believe, but yes. We all help out during the summer, its the busiest time. We even get payed, but not as much as the actual employees. But, it's nice to have your own savings." Rose finished.
"Wow, that's nice. It must be cool to have a nice big family like that." Scorpius said in response.
"Yes, it's nice, but it gets crazy sometimes." Rose said.
"Enough about me. What about you? What was your childhood like?" Rose asked.
"Well, it wasn't as nice as yours, but here it goes. I was born to Draco and Astoria Malfoy. I don't have any siblings or family. The only family relation I have is actually Teddy, we're like third cousins or something. But, I don't talk to my grandparents. I haven't seen them in five years. They're not welcome in our house anymore. Anyway, it was always my mum, dad, and me until I was 12. Um, my mum passed away. She had a blood condition, and one day it took a toll on her. I was actually the one that found her dead. The day before she was fine, but the next, she was gone. I mean, we knew that it was going to eventually happen, but when it did, we didn't expect it." Scorpius said. He didn't mean to say all that to her. He then felt a tear fall from his eye. He then tried to wipe it away fast before she could notice, but that wasn't successful.
"Oh Scorpius!" Rose said as she wrapped her arms around him. She had no idea what he'd been through. She knew his mum had passed, but not like this. She suddenly felt guilty for calling her childhood crazy, it was nothing compared to his.
Scorpius felt Rose's warm arms embrace around him. It felt so good. She looked up at him, with tears welling in her eyes.
"Hey, don't feel bad, there's nothing you can do about it. If anything, it felt good to get off my chest. I haven't really opened up about it to anyone before." Scorpius said, as she released her embrace. He secretly wished she'd do it again.
"I'm so sorry. I had no idea. You know what, lets go for a walk." Rose said, as they got up from the table. With that, the two exited the pub. They walked through the village, and out towards the forrest.
"It's chilly out today." Rose said, trying to change the subject.
"Oh, here." Scorpius said, taking his jacket off and handing it to her. OH MY GOSH. He just handed her his jacket. To wear! Rose took it and put it on. It was warm on the inside, still radiating from his body heat. It smelled good too. Just like Black Nior cologne, like she smelled in her love potion. This was crazy! She was wearing Scorpius Malfoy's jacket!
While Rose was thinking about the situation, Scorpius was too. Without knowing it, out of instinct, he handed her his jacket to wear! And she accepted it! Wow! She was wearing his jacket. It looked nice on her.
The two continued to walk around the forrest. Just making small talk about different things. Mostly things about each other.
"What's your favorite Quidditch team?" Rose asked.
"Oh, you might laugh at this, but The Chudley Cannons. I know they don't win that often, but their still my favorite team." Scorpius responded.
"No way! It's funny that you say that, my dad is obsessed with them! We go to at lest two of their games a season." Rose said. He liked The Chudley Cannons! The same as her dad. Maybe their was a little hope that maybe one day her father would except him.
"What's yours?" Scorpius asked.
"Well, I'm supposed to say Chudley, but mines actually the Hollyhead Harrpies. My aunt used to play for them, they're really good." Rose responded.
The two of them continued to talk, and then head back up to the castle. Again, they mostly talked about each other's interests, but it was very enjoyable. Before they knew it, they were back in the Entrance Hall.
"Well, I suppose you need this back." Rose said as she took Scorpius's jacket off.
"Yea." Scorpius chuckled. He secretly wished she would keep it, but he wouldn't hear the end of it from her family.
"You know Scorp. I had a really good time today. We should do this again next month." Rose said.
"Really. That'd be nice." Scorpius said back.
"Well. It's a date then! See you later Scorpius." Rose said as she smiled and waved, then walked away.
"Wow." Scorpius thought to himself. He just went on a date with Rose Weasley. It had probably been in one of the top five best moments in his life. He thought about his nice day all the way back to the Slytherin Common Room.
"Well, how'd it go?" Albus asked.
Scorpius responded with a non-identifiable sound. Albus knew he was in la-la-land again, so he decided to let it go.
Meanwhile in the Gryffindor Common Room, Rose had told Lily every detail about her day. They were both giggling by the end of it.
Both Rose and Scorpius had one of the best days so far this school year. Both went to bed and had dreams about each other, hoping that one day they would date. Both of their crushes on each other grew and grew by the day. They were both very happy.
Author's Notes
Hi guys! Thank you so much for reading. We now have over 200 reads! What! (Okay so I know that's not that much but it still excites me)! This chapter was really long, I know. But a good reason for that was because I don't know if I can post these next few days. Tomorrow I have a very important Zoom meeting, so I probably won't have time to write. Thank you so much for understanding. Just stick with me on this long Scorose journey. I have so much fun writing this. Anyways, as always, stay safe and healthy amigos.
