Chapter 49
19:18, 7 February 2025“Shouldn’t we go shopping now?? I think today’s the birthday sale!” Haniya shook me by the shoulders.
“Woah, calm down girl, we still haven’t had our first salaries yet, plus, I have to pay my debt with our neighbor.”
“Ughhh. I hate that we’re poor.”
“Tell me about it- oof!”
Oh my God! I wasn’t looking, I bumped into this rich looking man while he was talking on his phone-
“Hold on, Carter, I think I just found my wife.” He smiled and his teeth were strikingly shiny with that expensive smile.
“Oh uh.. I’m sorry, I wasn’t looking, sir..”
“I was.” He retorted with a smirk. Haniya was beside me, holding a giggling fit.
He stretched his hand out for me to shake, “I’m Jungkook, I’d be happy to know your name, Miss.”
I looked at Haniya, not knowing what to do and she nodded excitedly.
“I.. uh I’m Y/n.” I shook hands with him and what did he say about me earlier? His wife? He wishes.
“Would the two of you mind if I treat you for lunch as an apology for purposely bumping into you?”
“Yes-”
“No thank you-” I gave a sorry smile and took Haniya’s hand.
“It was just a bump sir, please have a good day.” I pulled Haniya aside to walk away but I could feel his stare following me.
“Girl why’d you decline?? That was a free lunch! We haven’t had our breakfast yet?”
“Yeah, that’s why we’re going home so we could eat already. And don’t be swayed by his charms, he called me his wife? Who’s he to-”
“Yiee!! I really like him for you though! I don’t know why but you two seem like a match.”
“How is it a match?? He’s obviously a businessman while we’re barely living by?”
“I don’t know, I just feel it.”
“Let’s just hurry.”
–
I’m brushing my teeth when I heard a knock on our apartment door.
“Haniya! Can you please open it?” I shouted with bubbles spilling off my mouth.
“Busy cooking here! Can’t leave it or it’ll burn!”
I decided to just go ahead with the brush sticking out my mouth and- huh? No one’s here?
Ugh, maybe some kid-
I looked down and a simple white box with a red ribbon on the mat was staring back at me.
I picked it up and went to the kitchen.
“Here’s your parcel.”
“Parcel?” She looked at me weirdly.
“Is it not?” I got confused.
“Uh no? I didn’t order anything from anyone.”
“Well it’s definitely not mine. The delivery guy must’ve got the wrong door.”
“Mhmm~” Haniya just agreed.
Hmm, no tags or address on this thing..
Just as I lifted it up to check the bottom of the box, a little card was taped onto it.
Y/n.
“Huh?? It’s got my first name on it?” bubbles spilled out of my mouth.
“Woah. Open it.” Haniya was suddenly hyper about it.
“Hold on, I’ll just rinse my mouth.” I hurriedly went to the bathroom and came back out so fast.
I pulled the ribbon and opened the box.
Both of us peeked inside it.
“Tell me that's not a gold bracelet??” Haniya gasped saying so.
“Oh no..” I felt like the blood in my head went down to my feet.
“What?? Why do you look so afraid??”
“I think it was that rich guy who I bumped with a week ago.” I gulped.
“Shit! We’re gonna be rich?!”
“What!? No! I am not using this in any way??”
“No??” She gave me a pouting face.
“No. We don’t know that guy. And isn’t it weird how he knew our address?? Aren’t you scared for our safety?”
“Honestly? No. He seems kind, really. And I’d know a creepy guy when I see one. Besides, he knew your first name, he must’ve looked for you and asked someone to deliver this.”
I gave it a second.. ugh. I closed the box.
“Look, maybe it’s an I’m sorry gift, and there’s no address to return to.” Haniya added.
“You’re saying it wouldn’t matter if I don’t use it?” She nodded.
“But it’s gold, real gold. What if it may even attract a robber?” I hypothetically asked.
“Then let’s sell it.” She jokes what I think has been on her mind, and I feel like agreeing.
“We could.” I shrugged. We do need money.
“Seriously?” She’s bewildered.
“Yeah, we could split the money.”
She jumped and went to hug me.
I laughed and went to pick up the clear acrylic box the bracelet was in.
I opened it and I was shocked that it had a simple design but it made me shiver. It has my initials in it.
“Damn, that man is serious.” Haniya whispered beside me.
“Yeah..” I muttered under my breath.
–
“That. Was. A. Huge. Money!!” Haniya cheered after we just left the shop of a known gold collector.
“Shh, keep it down? We don’t want it getting stolen right away.”
She giggled. It’s after three days that we finally decided to sell it for good.
“Well then~ since you gave me a share, let’s go have lunch at an expensive restaurant! My treat!”
I laughed, “sure.”
We were done eating and Haniya called a waiter for the bill.
“Hi sir, we would like to get our bill.”
“Someone already paid for it ma’am.”
“What? Who?” I got that shiver again.
“Wouldn’t like to be disclosed ma’am, but the person said it as a hello.”
Fuck. I looked at Haniya and she’s looking at me, trying to read my face.
“Could that person happen to be here? I’d just like to thank him or her personally.”
“The person already left ma’am.”
I went to look at Haniya and she knows I’m somehow creeped out.
“Okay, thank you sir.” Haniya said to the waiter.
–
“This isn’t good, Haniya, I have a bad feeling. It’s like he’s a stalker, how the hell would he know where we’re at??”
“Let’s not jump to conclusions, maybe it’s a different guy at the restaurant, right?”
Hmm, haven’t thought about that..
I sighed and laid down on my bed, thinking.
–
“Dinner is so good, Haniya.”
“Ugh, always have been??” She sassed and I laughed because she’s really confident in her cooking.
