part 20: the truth

"you've been acting differently since i've been gone""i miss you a lot. i really want you to come home""i'm going to be there tomorrow. don't worry. are you sure you're ok?""i'm good. sorry i haven't been giving as much energy over facetime""y/n don't apologize. i totally understand and i know it's difficult. i'm sorry i have to be away for so long""you can't apologize for doing your job! i'm glad you're living your dreams. i just wish i could be there with you.""i know. i'm really excited to come back and see you though!""me too..."

seonghwa had landed back in korea, and was on his way to meet y/n at her apartment. her and codel were waiting nervously, prepared with two pregnancy tests. soon enough, he came through the door, smiling brightly, but the brightness dimmed when he saw the grave looks on the girls' faces."hi y/n, hey codel...what's going on?""seonghwa can i talk to you for a second?""yeah of course"codel gave y/n an encouraging hand squeeze before she left the room to give them space. "i didn't want to worry you while you were touring, but i think that i might.." she lost her voice to the tears running down her cheeks. seonghwa held her hand and stared sincerely at her face. "what is it?""i think i might be pregnant," y/n choked out.

seonghwa pulled back in shock, eyes wide and mouth gaping. y/n was crying even harder now. "i-i'm really late on my period and i f-feel nauseous a lot. i'm s-so sorry," she sobbed.

seonghwa was still at a loss for words, but he pulled her into a tight embrace to comfort her. "i haven't taken the tests yet because i wanted you to be here i didn't want you to be some thousand miles away when i found out.""yeah yeah ok cool."it was very clear that he had no idea what to do with himself. "if it's ok with you, i just want to take a quick walk so i can organize my thoughts and i'll let you do the test. i'll just go out for five or so minutes. nothing longer i promise.""yeah go ahead"a shell-shocked seonghwa walked out of the apartment, and codel emerged with the tests, staying by her side.

five or so minutes later, seonghwa returned to the apartment. "y/n, i thought everything out, and i've made up my mind. no matter what, i'm going to stay by your side, baby or not. even if it means i have to find a different job in order to be here consistently. i love you and i want to stay with you, and even though it's earlier than i expected, i'll happily have a family with you, or not, if that's what you decide. i will never be the kind of man who neglects the love of-""seonghwa""what"y/n took a deep breath, and held up a pregnancy test with shaky hands. "it's a negative""w-what? it's negative?""both of them. i'm not pregnant""oh my""yeah i know""oh my god""yeah"seonghwa rushes over and swooped y/n up into a giant hug. "you know, i didn't want to say it, but i was scared out of my mind"y/n laughed. "i could tell!""really? it was that obvious?""it was pretty obvious," chimed codel. "i was scared too," said y/n. "but i don't think anyone's surprised by that."she looked up at him. "but did you mean what you said? you really would've stayed?""of course i would've stayed!""and what you said about you wanted to have a family...""let's not get too ahead of ourselves," laughed seonghwa. "there's a lot of time to come.""i know i know okay"y/n turned to codel. "thank you so much for being here too""there's no place i would rather be hun"

"let's get ice cream!" shouted seonghwa, and the day ended on a much happier note.
